Finding the Happy Outcome God Promises

A happy outcome to all things is sure.

God’s promises make no exceptions. And He guarantees that only joy can be the final outcome found for everything. Yet it is up to us when this is reached; how long we let an alien will appear to be opposing His. And while we think this will is real, we will not find the end He has appointed as the outcome of all problems we perceive, all trials we see, and every situation that we meet. Yet is the ending certain. For God’s Will is done in earth and Heaven. We will seek and we will find according to His Will, which guarantees that our will is done.

We thank You, Father, for Your guarantee of only happy outcomes in the end. Help us not interfere, and so delay the happy endings You have promised us for every problem that we can perceive; for every trial we think we still must meet. When we identify with the ego, we are believing that the ego’s alien will is real and can actually oppose God’s Will. But the ego is not real; the belief that it is real is the source of all problems and unhappiness.

The ego is an unforgiving thought; a rebellion against God because He could not give special Love and remain the changeless Love He is. “Forgiveness is the key to happiness.” (Lesson 121) We need to forgive — let go of — the ego’s rebellion against God. This rebellious thought is disguised by many forms in the world.

Believing a brother is a body is a projection of the ego, an attempt to make separation real. The body seems to be capable of myriad forms of attack and justification for guilt. As we let the Holy Spirit teach us that bodies are not real and show us the Love the body hides, forgiveness clears the way to receive God’s Love. His Will for us is perfect happiness (Lesson 101). With His Love, we experience God’s joy as our own because we accept that our will is His Will in truth.

Today we welcome Christ’s vision, which shows us our unity with every brother in God’s Love. With this practice, a happy outcome is assured.

The Timelessness of Love

This instant is the only time there is.

I have conceived of time in such a way that I defeat my aim. If I elect to reach past time to timelessness, I must change my perception of what time is for. Time’s purpose cannot be to keep the past and future one. The only interval in which I can be saved from time is now. For in this instant has forgiveness come to set me free. The birth of Christ is now, without a past or future. He has come to give His present blessing to the world, restoring it to timelessness and love. And love is ever-present, here and now.

Thanks for this instant, Father. It is now I am redeemed. This in­stant is the time You have appointed for Your Son’s release, and for salvation of the world in him. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 308, W-pII.308. See also ACIM Lesson 308 Insights.)

Unforgiveness always depends upon a “memory” of the past. It looks upon the present through a distorting filter from the past that causes misperception. This process makes it impossible to truly perceive the present moment.

To the Holy Spirit, our true Self, the only meaningful purpose for time is to let the past go, to forgive. Without the shadows of the past, the Light of eternal Love shines in our mind. Love is now and always. Forgiveness releases the future from the past, letting the eternal now extend beyond time.

We want to remember our Identity as Love. Today we practice opening our mind to the vision of Christ Who looks past our misperceptions and sees Love radiate in us and through us.

The World Is United by Love

To give is to receive. Today we will attempt to offer peace to everyone, and see how quickly peace returns to us. Light is tranquility, and in that peace is vision given us, and we can see.

So we begin the practice periods with the instruction for today, and say:

To give and to receive are one in truth.
I will receive what I am giving now.

Then close your eyes, and for five minutes think of what you would hold out to everyone, to have it yours. You might, for instance, say:

To everyone I offer quietness.
To everyone I offer peace of mind.
To everyone I offer gentleness.

Say each one slowly and then pause a while, expecting to receive the gift you gave. And it will come to you in the amount in which you gave it. You will find you have exact return, for that is what you asked. It might be helpful, too, to think of one to whom to give your gifts. He represents the others, and through him you give to all. In every moment we have the opportunity to give peace and Love to the world and receive It for ourselves. In moments of sadness, we pause to offer Love to the world. It can be as simple as smiling to a stranger or expressing gratitude to a friend. These simple thoughts we give are returned to us and we are blessed.

If we are afraid, we pause to remember the Love we feel for someone dear to our heart. And in that remembrance, our hearts are warmed by that Love. From a quiet mind, we offer kindness, gentleness, peace, happiness and gratitude.

This is the natural extension of our true Self. It automatically joins with the truth in every brother, who is united with us in Love. It does not matter to whom it appears we are offering the gift of Love and peace, in truth it is given to the world. We remember that the world is united by Love.

Bringing God’s Peace to the World

Peace be to me, the holy Son of God. Peace to my brother, who is one with me. Let all the world be blessed with peace through us.

Father, it is Your peace that I would give, receiving it of You. I am Your Son, forever just as You created me, for the Great Rays remain forever still and undisturbed within me. I would reach to them in silence and in certainty, for nowhere else can certainty be found. Peace be to me, and peace to all the world. In holiness were we created, and in holiness do we remain. Your Son is like to You in perfect sinlessness. And with this thought we gladly say “Amen.” (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 360, W-pII.360. See also ACIM Lesson 360 Insights.)

Everyone in the world is seeking peace because, in their heart, they want to remember their true Self. Our true Self remains one with the peace of God. But if we follow the ego’s guidance to find peace, we will seek it by inappropriate means that do not achieve the goal.

Remember, the ego wants us dead as “proof” that it has succeeded in replacing the Will of God. In the ego’s world, this plays out by some people even “killing” the body. Yet killing is as much an illusion as the body itself. Death of the body has no effect whatsoever on our true Self, the Son of God.

We bring peace to the world when we accept our true Self as our Identity. We identify with God’s holiness, which He gave to His Son. Peace is an attribute of holiness. We open to the awareness of peace by quieting our mind and letting the Holy Spirit show us the Love that surrounds us and is our true Self.

Today we remind ourselves often to ask the Holy Spirit to help us be aware of the Love we are and to see It all around us. As we accept His vision, we bring peace to the world.

The End of Conflict and Return to Peace

Father, Your Will is mine, and only that. There is no other will for me to have. Let me not try to make another will, for it is senseless and will cause me pain. Your Will alone can bring me happiness, and only Yours exists. If I would have what only You can give, I must accept Your Will for me, and enter into peace where conflict is impossible, Your Son is one with You in being and in will, and nothing contradicts the holy truth that I remain as You created me.

And with this prayer we enter silently into a state where conflict cannot come, because we join our holy will with God’s, in recognition that they are the same. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 307, W-pII.307.1-2. See also ACIM Lesson 307 Insights.)

The ego is an attempt to divorce God on the grounds of an unsatisfying relationship. Unable to get the specialness it demanded for an acceptable relationship, the ego attempted to make a separate will that excludes God and His Love. Because only the oneness of Love is real, the ego could only seem to accomplish its demand in a dream. Our identification with the ego makes the dream appear real while the reality of eternal Love is hidden by denial.

This lesson is reminding us that a dream does not change reality. The ego’s wish is not our will. Our true will is the same as God’s Will. It has never changed, being eternally united with God. When we remember and accept the Will we share with God, all appearances of conflict and loss disappear. We awaken to the eternal now of changeless Love. We are released from the past and the future is in the Hands of Love. This is true forgiveness.

Today we join with the Voice for Love to look past the misperceptions of conflict and loss to the certainty of Love. With this choice we step into the peace and joy of Heaven.

Living in the Safety of God’s Love

…we watch our thoughts, appealing silently to Him Who sees the elements of truth in them. Let Him evaluate each thought that comes to mind, remove the elements of dreams, and give them back again as clean ideas that do not contradict the Will of God.

Give Him your thoughts, and He will give them back as mir­acles which joyously proclaim the wholeness and the happiness God wills His Son, as proof of His eternal Love. And as each thought is thus transformed, it takes on healing power from the Mind which saw the truth in it, and failed to be deceived by what was falsely added. All the threads of fantasy are gone. And what remains is unified into a perfect Thought that offers its perfection everywhere. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 151, W-pI.151.13:3-4;14. See also ACIM Lesson 151 Insights.)

Here is a practice that will heal our mind of fear and guilt and bring healing to the world. It requires us to pay attention to our thoughts. Are they loving thoughts? If so, they will bring peace and happiness with them. Or are they thoughts without Love? If so, they will bring fear, guilt, unhappiness and lack of peace.

This mindfulness practice is an important step to break the unconscious stream of fear based thoughts that flow through our mind while we are aligned with the ego. But we cannot stop with just becoming aware of these thoughts. We must be willing to offer them to the Holy Spirit for Him to cleanse them of the illusions of lack of Love. This cleansing is the Holy Spirit’s function. We cannot do it on our own.

When we are willing to accept His purification, we receive a new perception. We see past the ego’s meaningless illusions to the Love or the call for Love our thoughts contain. If the thoughts are a call for Love, He answers with assurance that we live in the safety of God’s Love. The more we practice this every day, all day, the greater our experience will be of peace, happiness and gratitude for the Love in which we live and have our being.

Sharing God’s Peace with the World

We ask for rest today, and quietness unshaken by the world’s appearances. We ask for peace and stillness, in the midst of all the turmoil born of clashing dreams. We ask for safety and for happiness, although we seem to look on danger and on sorrow.

You rest within the peace of God today, and call upon your brothers from your rest to draw them to their rest, along with you. You will be faithful to your trust today, forgetting no one, bringing everyone into the boundless circle of your peace, the holy sanctuary where you rest. Open the temple doors and let them come from far across the world, and near as well; your dis­tant brothers and your closest friends; bid them all enter here and rest with you.

You rest within the peace of God today, quiet and unafraid. Each brother comes to take his rest, and offer it to you. We rest together here, for thus our rest is made complete, and what we give today we have received already. Time is not the guardian of what we give today. We give to those unborn and those passed by, to every Thought of God, and to the Mind in which these Thoughts were born and where they rest. And we remind them of their resting place each time we tell ourselves, “I rest in God.” (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 109, W-pI.109.1:1-3;8-9. See also ACIM Lesson 109 Insights.)

In quietness, every perceived problem is quietly resolved. When we choose to rest in God, we are choosing His peace instead of the ego’s chaotic dream of isolation and lovelessness. All our fears, anxiety, sadness, guilt and anger fade away when we accept God’s gift of peace, happiness and Love. Love is what we are. Peace is an attribute of Love; it is our natural state.

We rest in God’s peace when we forgive a perception that denies Love. When anything disturbs our peace, it is time to pause to rise above the disturbing perception and ask the Holy Spirit to heal our fear-based thought. As we relax into God’s peace, we open our mind to the Holy Spirit’s true perception.

We bring healing to the world when we accept this changed perception and share it. The blessing we receive is shared with everyone around the world. Let us join together in sharing the blessing of God’s peace.
