Choosing the World of Joy and Peace

Our emphasis is not on giving up the world, but on exchanging it for what is far more satisfying, filled with joy, and capable of offering you peace.”

Is it a loss to find a [real] world instead where losing is impossible; where love endures forever, hate cannot exist and vengeance has no meaning? Is it loss to find all things you really want, and know they have no ending and they will remain exactly as you want them throughout time?”

Value [not the little things the world sets forth], and they will disappear. Esteem them, and they will seem real to you.

Such is the choice. What loss can be for you in choosing not to value nothingness? This world holds nothing that you really want, but what you choose instead you want indeed! Let it be given you today. It waits but for your choosing it, to take the place of all the things you seek but do not want. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 129, W-pI.129.1:3;3:1-2;5:4-5;6. Only Love is real. The real world welcomes Love rather than denying It; Love is freely accepted and freely extended. It is a world in which all wishes for specialness and substitutes for Love are no longer desired. They have been forgiven. Now the limitations of time and space are let go.

Instead we choose the limitless, timeless unity of Love as our Reality. We choose Heaven instead of hell. This is the world we really want. Forgiveness offers this to us. Today we choose the Holy Spirit, the Teacher of forgiveness as our Guide. We choose the real world of joy and peace.

Demonstrating the Power of Love

[Trust] is the foundation on which [God’s teachers’] ability to fulfill their function rests. Perception is the result of learning. In fact, perception is learning, because cause and effect are never separated. The teachers of God have trust in the [real] world, because they have learned it is not governed by the laws the world made up. It is governed by a power that is in them but not of them. It is this power [of Love] that keeps all things safe. It is through this power that the teachers of God look on a forgiven world [the real world].

When this power [of Love] has once been experienced, it is impossible to trust one’s own petty strength again. Who would attempt to fly with the tiny wings of a sparrow when the mighty power of an eagle has been given him? And who would place his faith in the shabby offerings of the ego when the gifts of God are laid before him? (A Course in Miracles, M-4.I.1;2:1-3)

We are not trusting when we feel fearful. Fear is inevitable when we feel weak and capable of being harmed. We feel this way only because we believe in a false identity that is disconnected from the power of God’s Love. This belief in being disconnected is the foundation of the ego thought system. The ego is the denial of God’s Love.

To reclaim the power of Love in us, we need to deny the ego’s denial of Love. Forgiveness is the means to withdraw our belief in the ego. Our real strength comes from the power of God’s Love that is eternally in us. The Holy Spirit helps us recognize and accept this strength. He helps us see past the false perceptions of weakness to the reality of Love. As we accept this strength through forgiveness, trust is natural for we know there is nothing to fear in truth.

Today we choose Love as our Guide for all our perceptions, our thoughts and actions. We pause frequently to welcome the presence of Love within us and see that Love present in the world everywhere. As we practice this, we serve as God’s teachers by demonstrating the power of Love.

Forgiveness Brings Happiness and Peace

It is your forgiveness that will bring the world of darkness to the light. It is your forgiveness that lets you recognize the light in which you see. Forgiveness is the demonstration that you are the light of the world. Through your forgiveness does the truth about yourself return to your memory. Therefore, in your for­giveness lies your salvation.

Illusions about yourself and the world are one. That is why all forgiveness is a gift to yourself. Your goal is to find out who you are, having denied your Identity by attacking creation and its Creator. Now you are learning how to remember the truth. For this attack must be replaced by forgiveness, so that thoughts of life may replace thoughts of death.

Remember that in every attack you call upon your own weakness, while each time you forgive you call upon the strength of Christ in you. Do you not then begin to understand what forgiveness will do for you? It will remove all sense of weakness, strain and fatigue from your mind. It will take away all fear and guilt and pain. It will restore the invulnerability and power God gave His Son to your awareness.”

Forgiveness is my function as the light of the world.

We attack our brother when we believe he is limited to a body. This perception stems from the attack we made on ourself by believing we are a body. This belief blinds us to a world without Love. Love knows no limits and cannot be confined to any form of limitation.

The dream of a loveless world lacks the Light of Love. When we forgive our mistaken beliefs, we let go of limitation and make way for Love’s Light to shine upon the dream of a dark world. This is why forgiveness is our function in the dream. It welcomes the Light of Love by letting go of beliefs that deny Love.

When we welcome Love through forgiveness, we welcome God’s gifts of peace and perfect happiness. We this bring to the world each time we accept the Holy Spirit’s lesson in forgiveness. The Holy Spirit is ever present in our mind, dedicated to helping us forgive the denial of Love.

We are ready to let go of fear and guilt. Today we take the Holy Spirit’s Hand and accept His lead to guide our thoughts and perceptions to bring Light to the world.

Bringing God’s Blessing to the World

My sinless brother is my guide to peace. My sinful brother is my guide to pain. And which I choose to see I will behold.

Who is my brother but Your holy Son? And if I see him sinful [separate] I proclaim myself a sinner, not a Son of God; alone and friendless in a fearful world. Yet this perception is a choice I make, and can relinquish. I can also see my brother sinless, as Your holy Son. And with this choice I see my sinlessness, my everlasting Comforter and Friend beside me, and my way secure and clear. Choose, then, for me, my Father, through Your Voice. If we see a brother as a body capable of harm, we are seeing a reflection of what we believe about ourselves. The Holy Spirit, being the Voice for Love, sees every brother united in Love.

As we keep our mind open to the Holy Spirit’s vision in place of our perceptions of the world, we welcome the peace that comes with remembering we are the loving Son of God. We see every brother as the Love God sees as His Son. We remember His joy.

In every moment we are free to make this choice: To let the Holy Spirit judge all things on our behalf. His judgment is simple and consistent — only Love is real; nothing else exists. We choose to follow God’s Voice today and bring His blessing to the world.

Walking in the Way of Love

This is my holy instant of release.

Father, it is today that I am free, because my will is Yours. I thought to make another will. Yet nothing that I thought apart from You exists. And I am free because I was mistaken, and did not affect my own reality at all by my illusions. Now I give them up, and lay them down before the feet of truth, to be removed forever from my mind. This is my holy instant of release. Father, I know my will is one with Yours.

And so today we find our glad return to Heaven, which we never really left. The Son of God this day lays down his dreams. The Son of God this day comes home again, released from sin [separation] and clad in holiness, with his right mind restored to him at last. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 227, W-pII.227. Our only real Thoughts are the Thoughts we think with God. They are Thoughts of Love and nothing else, because only Love is real.

The thoughts we are aware of in the world are not real. They are illusions in the dream held in place by belief that separation is real. Every moment of every day we have the opportunity to choose Love instead of fear, oneness instead of separation. God’s Voice calls to us in every moment to choose Love.

His call brings with it the strength of God. We can rely on this strength to support us as we choose a different path than the one that led to fear and guilt. His strength and Love shine away the shadows of fear that come from belief that we are alone in a loveless world.

We choose Love to be our Guide today because we want to remember that God’s Will is our will. We want to walk in the way of Love. We want to answer calls for love — thoughts and perceptions of conflict and loss — with the certainty and safety of Love. Love knows no limits and makes no judgments. It gives Itself equally to all. This is the Thought that releases us from the dream and returns us Home.

Healing Our Fear-Based Misperceptions

God is the only goal I have today.

The way to God is through forgiveness here. There is no other way. If sin [separation] had not been cherished by the mind, what need would there have been to find the way to where you are? Who would still be uncertain? Who could be unsure of who he is? And who would yet remain asleep, in heavy clouds of doubt about the holiness of him whom God created sinless? Here we can but dream. But we can dream we have forgiven him in whom all sin remains impossible, and it is this we choose to dream today. God is our goal; forgiveness is the means by which our minds return to Him at last.

And so, our Father, would we come to You in Your appointed way. We have no goal except to hear Your Voice, and find the way Your sacred Word has pointed out to us. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 256, W-pII.256. See also ACIM Lesson 256 Insights.)

Our true Self remains eternally united with God in Love. But the dream of a world of bodies and separation hides our true Self from our awareness. The means to return Home to oneness is forgiveness. True forgiveness requires the help of the Holy Spirit to show us that what we thought happened in the dream never occurred in truth.

The split mind that dreams of a world of separation is incapable of forgiveness because it is the denial of Love. By God’s grace we have been given the Holy Spirit to guide us to the reinterpretation of all our perceptions in the dream.

The Holy Spirit will show us the truth behind our misperceptions. As we learn His lessons, the world’s images of separation, fear and guilt fade and lose their seeming importance. As the dream becomes increasingly a dream of forgiveness, we live with a happy heart, free to Love and free to be our true Self. We lay down the dream of separation and awaken to our Home in God. Today we ask the Holy Spirit for help to heal our misperceptions.

Finding the Peace of Heaven Now

This day I choose to spend in perfect peace.

It does not seem to me that I can choose to have but peace today. And yet, my God assures me that His Son is like Himself. Let me this day have faith in Him Who says I am God’s Son. And let the peace I choose be mine today bear witness to the truth of what He says. God’s Son can have no cares, and must remain forever in the peace of Heaven. In His Name, I give today to finding what my Father wills for me, accepting it as mine, and giving it to all my Father’s Sons, along with me.

And so, my Father, would I pass this day with You. Your Son has not forgotten You. The peace You gave him still is in his mind, and it is there I choose to spend today. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 255, W-pII.255. See also ACIM Lesson 255 Insights.)

Peace in the world seems impossible today. Stories of sickness and death dominate the news. Yet within us, beneath all these appearances, remains God’s peace. God gave His Son all of What He Is — His Love, peace and joy. The Truth in us, the one Self we all share, is God’s Son. God guarantees His gift, never to be withdrawn. His gift is unknown to us only because we have hidden it beneath the ego’s dream that denies God’s Love.

Sickness, pain and death are instruments of the ego made to frighten us into believing these appearances are real. Though the Love of God remains forever present, we need to follow the Guide He gave us to lead us out of the ego’s dream of lovelessness. We have not lost God’s gift, only hidden it from our awareness.

Today we choose to accept the Holy Spirit’s help to recognize the dream for what it is and overlook it. The Holy Spirit will guide us out of the wilderness of the ego’s dreams to remember our true Self, God’s Son at Home in Heaven now. We welcome the Holy Spirit’s vision to help us look upon a forgiven world where we recognize the peace of Heaven within.
