We Have the Means to Remember Love

Conflict must be between two forces. It cannot exist between one power and nothingness. There is nothing you could attack that is not part of you. And by attacking it you make two illusions of yourself, in conflict with each other. And this occurs whenever you look on anything that God created with anything but love. Conflict is fearful, for it is the birth of fear. Yet what is born of nothing cannot win reality through battle. Why would you fill your world with conflicts with yourself? Let all this madness be undone for you, and turn in peace to the remembrance of God, still shining in your quiet mind.

…what [God] loves must be forever quiet and at peace because it is His home.

You who are beloved of Him are no illusion, being as true and holy as Himself. The stillness of your certainty of Him and of yourself is home to Both of You, Who dwell as One and not apart. Open the door of His most holy home, and let forgiveness sweep away all trace of the belief in sin that keeps God homeless and His Son with Him. You are not a stranger in the house of God. Welcome your brother to the home where God has set him in serenity and peace, and dwells with him. Illusions have no place where love abides, protecting you from everything that is not true. You dwell in peace as limitless as its Creator, and everything is given those who would remember Him. Our natural condition is in a state of peace. If anything disturbs our peace, it is a sure sign that we are believing in a false image of ourselves. It is an indication that there is a belief to be forgiven or let go.

This is why forgiveness is the central teaching of the Course. It is the means to remove the barriers to the awareness of Love’s presence. God’s Love and peace are already ours, being What we are. All we need do to remember God, our Home, is to let go of the self-imposed barriers that make us unaware of Who we are.

Every day, every moment that we experience a disturbance of our peace, is an opportunity to forgive and heal. All things are lessons God would have us learn. We learn that we are Love by extending Love. We learn that we are Love by forgiving the false ideas that hide Love’s presence from our awareness. Let us walk in gratitude today that we have the means to remember Who we are.

Connecting with Our Inner Light

Very quietly now, with your eyes closed, try to let go of all the content that generally occupies your consciousness. Think of your mind as a vast circle, surrounded by a layer of heavy, dark clouds. You can see only the clouds because you seem to be standing outside the circle and quite apart from it.

From where you stand, you can see no reason to believe there is a brilliant light hidden by the clouds. The clouds seem to be the only reality. They seem to be all there is to see. Therefore, you do not attempt to go through them and past them, which is the only way in which you would be really convinced of their lack of substance. We will make this attempt today.

After you have thought about the importance of what you are trying to do for yourself and the world, try to settle down in perfect stillness, remembering only how much you want to reach the light in you today,–now! Determine to go past the clouds. Reach out and touch them in your mind. Brush them aside with your hand; feel them resting on your cheeks and forehead and eyelids as you go through them. Go on; clouds cannot stop you.

If you are doing the exercises properly, you will begin to feel a sense of being lifted up and carried ahead. Your little effort and small determination call on the power of the universe to help you, and God Himself will raise you from darkness into light. You are in accord with His Will. You cannot fail because your will is His.

Have confidence in your Father today, and be certain that He has heard you and answered you. You may not recognize His answer yet, but you can indeed be sure that it is given you and you will yet receive it. Try, as you attempt to go through the clouds to the light, to hold this confidence in your mind. Try to remember that you are at last joining your will to God’s. Try to keep the thought clearly in mind that what you undertake with God must succeed. Then let the power of God work in you and through you, that His Will and yours be done. This is a powerful guided meditation to help us connect with the Light of our true Self. The Light is in us hidden only by our grievances, our judgments about the world we experience. With this process we learn that these grievances have no real substance and we can easily move past them. As we connect with our inner Light, we illuminate the minds of our brothers and ourselves. There can be no greater gift we can give.

Resting in the Holy Spirit’s Peace

You are the dreamer of the world of dreams. No other cause it has, nor ever will. Nothing more fearful than an idle dream has terrified God’s Son, and made him think that he has lost his innocence, denied his Father, and made war upon himself.

Rest in the Holy Spirit, and allow His gentle dreams to take the place of those you dreamed in terror and in fear of death. He brings forgiving dreams, in which the choice is not who is the murderer and who shall be the victim. In the dreams He brings there is no murder and there is no death. The dream of guilt is fading from your sight, although your eyes are closed. A smile has come to lighten up your sleeping face. The sleep is peaceful now, for these are happy dreams.

Dream softly of your sinless brother, who unites with you in holy innocence. And from this dream the Lord of Heaven will Himself awaken His beloved Son. Dream of your brother’s kindnesses instead of dwelling in your dreams on his mistakes. Select his thoughtfulness to dream about instead of counting up the hurts he gave. Forgive him his illusions, and give thanks to him for all the helpfulness he gave. And do not brush aside his many gifts because he is not perfect in your dreams. There is a rest available to us that surpasses anything the world has to offer. It is always with us, waiting only on our willingness to accept it. We rest in the Holy Spirit when we are willing to accept His guidance in all that we think and do. The Holy Spirit will show us the peace beyond the chaotic appearances of the world.

As we let the Holy Spirit show us the loving truth in our brothers, we learn of it in ourselves. And as this Love becomes more clear to us through our forgiveness, peace becomes our natural state. Today we accept the Holy Spirit’s help that we may rest in His peace.

Remembering Our One Self

You are one Self, united and secure in light and joy and peace. You are God’s Son, one Self, with one Creator and one goal; to bring awareness of this oneness to all minds, that true creation may extend the allness and the unity of God. You are one Self, complete and healed and whole, with power to lift the veil of darkness from the world, and let the light in you come through to teach the world the truth about yourself.

You are one Self, in perfect harmony with all there is, and all that there will be. You are one Self, the holy Son of God, united with your brothers in that Self; united with your Father in His Will. Feel this one Self in you, and let It shine away all your illusions and your doubts. This is your Self, the Son of God Himself, sinless as Its Creator, with His strength within you and His Love forever yours. You are one Self, and it is given you to feel this Self within you, and to cast all your illusions out of the one Mind that is this Self, the holy truth in you. The Course reminds us many times that we are not a body and remain as God created us. Here what God created us to be is thoroughly described. Our natural state as we were created is joy and peace, constantly extending Love. All of God’s strength is ours, never limited. We lack nothing, for we have been given all that is real.

This sense of limitation, weakness, vulnerability and uncertainty we experience in the world is only because we identify with a false idea of what we are. This false idea is a denial of what we were created to be. Fortunately the choice to believe in a false idea can be reversed. We have been given a Voice from our Creator That calls to us unceasingly to remind us of the truth of what we are.

Today we practice listening to that Voice, for we would remember the Love and joy and peace of our one Self. We would remember What God created us to be.

Accepting God’s Plan of Awakening

You may wonder how you can be at peace when, while you are in time, there is so much that must be done before the way to peace is open. Perhaps this seems impossible to you. But ask yourself if it is possible that God would have a plan for your salvation that does not work. Once you accept His plan as the one function that you would fulfill, there will be nothing else the Holy Spirit will not arrange for you without your effort. He will go before you making straight your path, and leaving in your way no stones to trip on, and no obstacles to bar your way. Nothing you need will be denied you. Not one seeming difficulty but will melt away before you reach it. You need take thought for nothing, careless of everything except the only purpose that you would fulfill. As that was given you, so will its fulfillment be. God’s guarantee will hold against all obstacles, for it rests on certainty and not contingency. It rests on you. And what can be more certain than a Son of God? (A Course in Miracles, T-20.IV.8. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

The doubt and uncertainty we experience in the world comes from believing we are disconnected from the Source of certainty. Believing we are alone in a world of conflict leaves us feeling vulnerable and in need of defense.

This sense of weakness is dispelled when we accept God’s plan for our awakening. God’s plan leads us back to the remembrance of our eternal Home in which we are perfectly safe, perfectly loved and perfectly loving. To help us fulfill God’s plan, we have the Holy Spirit to guide us. His sole purpose is to teach us to recognize the false identity we have believed in.

When its falsity is recognized, we automatically withdraw our belief in it. Because of our decision to accept God’s plan for our release from the dream of separation, the Holy Spirit prepares the way for us. He guides us to the experiences that will help us let go of the mistaken beliefs that keep us imprisoned. We can be confident that the Holy Spirit prepares the way for us to return Home to the certainty of God’s changeless Love.

We dedicate today to accepting God’s plan for our awakening.

Our Mission of Awakening

We have a mission here. We did not come to reinforce the madness that we once believed in. Let us not forget the goal that we accepted. It is more than just our happiness alone we came to gain. What we accept as what we are proclaims what everyone must be, along with us. Fail not your brothers, or you fail yourself. Look lovingly on them, that they may know that they are part of you, and you of them.

This does Atonement teach, and demonstrates the Oneness of God’s Son is unassailed by his belief he knows not what he is. Today accept Atonement, not to change reality, but merely to accept the truth about yourself, and go your way rejoicing in the endless Love of God. It is but this that we are asked to do. It is but this that we will do today.

I will accept Atonement for myself,
For I remain as God created me.

We have not lost the knowledge that God gave to us when He created us like Him. We can remember it for everyone, for in creation are all minds as one. And in our memory is the recall how dear our brothers are to us in truth, how much a part of us is every mind, how faithful they have really been to us, and how our Father’s Love contains them all. It brings us great joy when we see the Love that is the truth in every brother. All the loneliness, sadness, pain, guilt and fear we experience comes from seeing false images that deny the truth of What we are. To see ourselves or anyone as a body denies our true Identity as extensions of God’s Love.

Our mission here is to lay aside the false beliefs that blind us to the presence of changeless Love everywhere. The focal point of these false images is the body. This is why we need to remind ourselves frequently, every day, “I am not a body. I am free. I am still as God created me.” This is our mission.

Our Purpose Is to Bless the World

[‘My holiness blesses the world’] contains the first glimmerings of your true function in the world, or why you are here. Your purpose is to see the world through your own holiness. Thus are you and the world blessed together. No one loses; nothing is taken away from anyone; everyone gains through your holy vision. It signifies the end of sacrifice because it offers everyone his full due. And he is entitled to everything because it is his birthright as a Son of God.

Your holiness is the salvation of the world. It lets you teach the world that it is one with you, not by preaching to it, not by telling it anything, but merely by your quiet recognition that in your holiness are all things blessed along with you.

If anyone seems to cause an adverse reaction in you, offer him the blessing of your holiness immediately, that you may learn to keep it in your own awareness. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 37, W-pI.37.1;3;6:3-4. See also ACIM Lesson 37 Insights.)

The ego tries to convince us that we are anything but holy. It tells us that claiming we are holy is arrogant. This is because the ego needs us to believe we are guilty and unworthy in order to maintain its status as our guide in the world.

Actually it is the ego that is arrogant when it denies the truth that we were created holy as God’s one Son. Our purpose in the world is to remember that we were created holy and all that is real is holy, along with us. In our acceptance of our shared holiness, we recognize that we remain whole, united as God’s one Son.

The practice of sharing Holy Spirit’s vision helps us remember our own wholeness. In this remembering we are blessed and we bless our brothers by seeing them whole. This vision comes in our mind, not through the body’s eyes, for they were made to see only limitation. Our mind’s eye sees only the one Mind, where we live and have our being eternally.

Holy Spirit, help us see as you see, for we would bless the world.
