Giving Ourselves the Gift of Truth

There is a very simple way to find the door to true forgiveness, and perceive it open wide in welcome. ²When you feel that you are tempted to accuse someone of sin in any form, do not allow your mind to dwell on what you think he did, for that is self-deception. ³Ask instead, “Would I accuse myself of doing this?

Thus will you see alternatives for choice in terms that render choosing meaningful, and keep your mind as free of guilt and pain as God Himself intended it to be, and as it is in truth. ²It is but lies that would condemn. ³In truth is innocence the only thing there is. ⁴Forgiveness stands between illusions and the truth; between the world you see and that which lies beyond; between the hell of guilt and Heaven’s gate.

Across this bridge, as powerful as love which laid its blessing on it, are all dreams of evil and of hatred and attack brought silently to truth. ²They are not kept to swell and bluster, and to terrify the foolish dreamer who believes in them. ³He has been gently wakened from his dream by understanding what he thought he saw was never there. ⁴And now he cannot feel that all escape has been denied to him. (A Course in Miracles, W-134.9:1–11:4. See also ACIM Lesson 134 Insights.)

Belief in sin comes with the belief that separation is real. Only in separation does harm seem to be possible. Yet, only Love is real, and Love is one. In oneness, there is no other, no differences that could seem to conflict. In Love, sin cannot exist.

Every judgment we make stems from a false belief that we are separate and alone. True forgiveness brings release from judgment. It sees past the false images of differences to the eternal oneness of Love. As we learn to forgive, we see that what we thought occurred to threaten us never happened.

Now we see with the eyes of Christ. This vision shows us Love’s reality and easily passes by throughs of separation. Forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves.

Being Truly Helpful

A teacher of God is anyone who chooses to be one. ²His qualifications consist solely in this; somehow, somewhere he has made a deliberate choice in which he did not see his interests as apart from someone else’s. ³Once he has done that, his road is established and his direction is sure. ⁴A light has entered the darkness. ⁵It may be a single light, but that is enough. ⁶He has entered an agreement with God even if he does not yet believe in Him. ⁷He has become a bringer of salvation. ⁸He has become a teacher of God.

⁹Everyone will answer in the end, but the end can be a long, long way off. ¹⁰It is because of this that the plan of the teachers was established. ¹¹Their function is to save time. ¹²Each one begins as a single light, but with the Call at its center it is a light that cannot be limited. ¹³And each one saves a thousand years of time as the world judges it.

There is a course for every teacher of God. ²The form of the course varies greatly. ³So do the particular teaching aids involved. ⁴But the content of the course never changes. ⁵Its central theme is always, “God’s Son is guiltless, and in his innocence is his salvation.” ⁶It can be taught by actions or thoughts; in words or soundlessly; in any language or in no language; in any place or time or manner. ⁷It does not matter who the teacher was before he heard the Call. ⁸He has become a savior by his answering. ⁹He has seen someone else as himself. ¹⁰He has therefore found his own salvation and the salvation of the world. ¹¹In his rebirth is the world reborn. (A Course in Miracles, M-1.1;2:9-13;3)

Everyone in this world is seeking for Love. We will not find It as long as we let the ego direct our search. It is afraid of Love and will only direct us to search where It cannot be found.

But Love always calls to us to awaken to the fact that we already are the thing we seek. The Love we are sees Itself in everyone, everywhere. It recognizes we each have the same need to love and be Love. This is the shared interest that unites us. As we join in Love, we respond to every brother with kindness, compassion and helpfulness. As we let Love guide our ways, we are naturally truly helpful.

Resting in the Certainty of Love

I am at home. Fear is the stranger here.

Fear is a stranger to the ways of love. ²Identify with fear, and you will be a stranger to yourself. ³And thus you are unknown to you. ⁴What is your Self remains an alien to the part of you which thinks that it is real, but different from yourself. ⁵Who could be sane in such a circumstance? ⁶Who but a madman could believe he is what he is not, and judge against himself?

Today we offer thanks that Christ has come to search the world for what belongs to Him. ²His vision sees no strangers, but beholds His Own and joyously unites with them. ³They see Him as a stranger, for they do not recognize themselves. ⁴Yet as they give Him welcome, they remember. ⁵And He leads them gently home again, where they belong. (A Course in Miracles, W-160.1;9. See also ACIM Lesson 160 Insights.)

When we welcome Christ, we welcome our true Self. They are one and the same as God’s one Son. This Self is Love and nothing else.

Fear is a sure sign that we have identified with a false idea that denies the reality of Love. To the ego, fear is used as signal to raise our defenses to protect our frail identity. But the Holy Spirit can use it as a reminder to pause and return to the stillness within our hearts.

In stillness, Christ’s vision shows us the reality of Love. It looks past the illusions that seem to divide us from Love. It sees the Light of Love as the only reality. We rest in the certainty that we remain Love as our Father created us.

Moving Past Fear to Love

God is my Father, and His Son loves Him.

Father, I must return Your Love for me, for giving and receiving are the same, and You have given all Your Love to me. ²I must return [Your Love], for I want it mine in full awareness, blazing in my mind and keeping it within [Love’s] kindly light, inviolate, beloved, with fear behind and only peace ahead. ³How still the way Your loving Son is led along to You!

Brother, we find that stillness now. ²The way is open. ³Now we follow it in peace together. ⁴You have reached your hand to me, and I will never leave you. ⁵We are one, and it is but this oneness that we seek, as we accomplish these few final steps which end a journey that was not begun. (A Course in Miracles, W-225. See also ACIM Lesson 225 Insights.)

When we identify with the ego, we deny God’s gift of all of His Love. The ego is afraid of Love, because when its oneness is accept, the ego would cease to seem to exist. This is where the idea that we should fear God comes from.

Today we are reminded that to receive our Father’s Love we must give Him Love, because giving and receiving are the same. Giving Love acknowledges that we have Love; we engage with the eternal flow of Love giving to Itself. In this flow we feel Love’s joy and peace.

The Holy Spirit is always with us, ready to lead us on a journey back to Love’s oneness, which we only dreamed we lost. Today we happily follow His lead as we take His Hand with confidence that He will always be with us, leading us to peace in God’s Love.

Letting Love Extend Through Us

…in the holy instant, free of the past, you see that love is in you, and you have no need to look without and snatch love guiltily from where you thought it was.

All your relationships are blessed in the holy instant, because the blessing is not limited. ²In the holy instant the Sonship gains as one, and united in your blessing it becomes one to you. ³The meaning of love is the meaning God gave to it. ⁴Give to it any meaning apart from His, and it is impossible to understand it. ⁵God loves every brother as He loves you; neither less nor more. ⁶He needs them all equally, and so do you. ⁷In time, you have been told to offer miracles as I direct, and let the Holy Spirit bring to you those who are seeking you. ⁸Yet in the holy instant you unite directly with God, and all your brothers join in Christ. ⁹Those who are joined in Christ are in no way separate. ¹⁰For Christ is the Self the Sonship shares, as God shares His Self with Christ.

Think you that you can judge the Self of God? ²God has created It beyond judgment, out of His need to extend His Love. ³With love in you, you have no need except to extend it. (A Course in Miracles, T-15.V.9:7–11:3. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

The ego’s constant chatter in our mind is always rehashing the past or projecting a future base on “memories” from the past. This is how it keeps us distracted from recognizing the oneness of changeless Love in the eternal present. Change is the hallmark of the ego thought system.

With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can pause, step back from the chatter and welcome the peace of our true Self. In the stillness we find the steady presence of Love that never changes. It unites us as the Christ which is the Self we share with every brother. We join with Love’s only need — to extend Itself.

Opening to the Certainty of Heaven

Deny not Heaven. ²It is yours today, but for the asking. ³Nor need you perceive how great the gift, how changed your mind will be before it comes to you. ⁴Ask to receive, and it is given you. ⁵Conviction lies within it. ⁶Till you welcome it as yours, uncertainty remains. ⁷Yet God is fair. ⁸Sureness is not required to receive what only your acceptance can bestow.

Ask with desire. ²You need not be sure that you request the only thing you want. ³But when you have received, you will be sure you have the treasure you have always sought. ⁴What would you then exchange for it? ⁵What would induce you now to let it fade away from your ecstatic vision? ⁶For this sight proves that you have exchanged your blindness for the seeing eyes of Christ; your mind has come to lay aside denial, and accept the Thought of God as your inheritance.

Now is all doubting past, the journey’s end made certain, and salvation given you. ²Now is Christ’s power in your mind, to heal as you were healed. ³For now you are among the saviors of the world. ⁴Your destiny lies there and nowhere else. ⁵Would God consent to let His Son remain forever starved by his denial of the nourishment he needs to live? ⁶Abundance dwells in him, and deprivation cannot cut him off from God’s sustaining Love and from his home. (A Course in Miracles, W-165.4:1–6:6. See also ACIM Lesson 165 Insights.)

The power of Christ is in our mind now. Only our denial of our true Identity makes it seem that we are weak, vulnerable and destined to die. This is what the ego thought system believes.

Yet healing of our mistaken beliefs is forever within our reach. When no longer want to settle for the ego’s direction on futile searches for happiness and peace, we become willing to ask for a better way. This better way is available but for the asking with desire. Our open mind is willing to accept the gift of Heaven. Uncertainty fades and we become messengers to the world of the power of Love.

Learning to Accept Love’s Presence

³Love is one. ⁴It has no separate parts and no degrees; no kinds nor levels, no divergencies and no distinctions. ⁵It is like itself, unchanged throughout. ⁶It never alters with a person or a circumstance. ⁷It is the Heart of God, and also of His Son.

Love’s meaning is obscure to anyone who thinks that love can change. ²He does not see that changing love must be impossible. ³And thus he thinks that he can love at times, and hate at other times. ⁴He also thinks that love can be bestowed on one, and yet remain itself although it is withheld from others. ⁵To believe these things of love is not to understand it. ⁶If it could make such distinctions, it would have to judge between the righteous and the sinner, and perceive the Son of God in separate parts.

Love cannot judge. ²As it is one itself, it looks on all as one. ³Its meaning lies in oneness. ⁴And it must elude the mind that thinks of it as partial or in part. ⁵There is no love but God’s, and all of love is His. ⁶There is no other principle that rules where love is not. ⁷Love is a law without an opposite. ⁸Its wholeness is the power holding everything as one, the link between the Father and the Son which holds Them both forever as the same.

Call to your Father, certain that His Voice will answer. ²He Himself has promised this. ³And He Himself will place a spark of truth within your mind wherever you give up a false belief, a dark illusion of your own reality and what love means. ⁴He will shine through your idle thoughts today, and help you understand the truth of love. ⁵In loving gentleness He will abide with you, as you allow His Voice to teach love’s meaning to your clean and open mind. ⁶And He will bless the lesson with His Love. (A Course in Miracles, W-127.1:3–3:8;9. See also ACIM Lesson 127 Insights.)

Love is everywhere and universally one. But if we deny Its presence, we will experience a world where Love seems to be absent. This is the ego’s wish, which manifests as a dream of separate images in constant conflict built on false beliefs.

The ego always judges against Love. As we let go of our identification with the ego, we open our mind to accept Love’s Presence. Love flows freely through the door held open by forgiveness.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us see past our judgments to the reality of Love everywhere and in everyone.
