Clearing Our Direct Connection with God

God indeed can be reached directly, for there is no distance between Him and His Son. His awareness is in everyone’s memory, and His Word is written on everyone’s heart. Yet this awareness and this memory can arise across the threshold of recognition only where all barriers to truth have been removed.

If God were reached directly in sustained awareness, the body would not be long maintained. Those who have laid the body down merely to extend their helpfulness to those remaining behind are few indeed. And they need helpers who are still in bondage and still asleep, so that by their awakening can God’s Voice be heard.

Do not despair, then, because of limitations. It is your function to escape from them, but not to be without them. If you would be heard by those who suffer, you must speak their language. If you would be a savior, you must understand what needs to be escaped. Salvation is not theoretical. Behold the problem, ask for the answer, and then accept it when it comes. Nor will its coming be long delayed. All the help you can accept will be provided, and not one need you have will not be met. Let us not, then, be too concerned with goals for which you are not ready. God takes you where you are and welcomes you. What more could you desire, when this is all you need? (A Course in Miracles, M-26.1:1-3;3:8-10;4)

We teach by demonstration. When we act on our perceptions based on our identity as a body, we teach that separation and lovelessness are real. We will continue to teach these false lessons as long as we follow the ego’s dictates.

If we would teach salvation, we must have the habit of remembering that we do not know what anything means and asking for the Holy Spirit’s reinterpretation of our perceptions. When we accept His help to heal our misperceptions, we teach forgiveness. We demonstrate that peace can be accepted in the midst of turmoil. We teach that mistaken beliefs can be released and we clear a channel for God’s Love to flow through us by letting our misperceptions be transformed.

Our direct connection with God becomes clearer as we let the beliefs that stood as a barrier to Love be dispelled with the Holy Spirit’s clear vision. With this practice, we serve as teachers of God representing His Teacher in our mind to the world. We become Love’s assistant for It’s expression in the world.

Smiling with the Joy of God’s Love

I can attack but my own sinlessness, And it is only [my sinlessness] which keeps me safe.

Father, Your Son is holy. I am he on whom You smile in love and tenderness so dear and deep and still the universe smiles back on You, and shares Your Holiness. How pure, how safe, how holy, then, are we, abiding in Your Smile, with all Your Love bestowed upon us, living one with You, in brotherhood and Fatherhood complete; in sinlessness so perfect that the Lord of Sinlessness conceives us as His Son, a universe of Thought completing Him.

Let us not, then, attack our sinlessness [our true Identity], for it contains the Word of God to us. And in its kind reflection we are saved. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 341, W-pII.341. See also ACIM Lesson 341 Insights.)

A parent holding a baby naturally responds with a smile when the baby smiles. It is an expression of the joy that is experienced with shared Love. Likewise, our Creator experiences joy when we join with and share His Love. Our true Identity is eternally joined with our Creator in His Love. We remain at Home in His universe of Love.

We attack our unity in Love when we believe we are a separate self, limited to a body in a dream world where Love is denied. This attack leads to feelings of isolation, vulnerability and guilt, for we have denied God’s gift. We free ourselves by letting the Holy Spirit help us heal our mistaken beliefs that project a world of fear and hate.

Today our prayer is to ask the Holy Spirit to shine His Light of Love in our mind to help us forgive our fear-based thoughts. We want to see Love reflected in the world and smile once again with the joy of accepting God’s gift of Love.

We Are Not the Ego

I let forgiveness rest upon all things, For thus forgiveness will be given me.

I thank You, Father, for Your plan to save me from the hell I made. It is not real. And You have given me the means to prove its unreality to me. The key is in my hand, and I have reached the door beyond which lies the end of dreams. I stand before the gate of Heaven, wondering if I should enter in and be at home. Let me not wait again today. Let me forgive all things, and let creation be as You would have it be and as it is. Let me remember that I am Your Son, and opening the door at last, forget illusions in the blazing light of truth, as memory of You returns to me.

Brother, forgive me now. I come to you to take you home with me. And as we go, the world goes with us on our way to God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 342, W-pII.342. See also ACIM Lesson 342 Insights.)

Every brother presents an opportunity to forgive him and join with him to return Home to the Love of God. We need only forgive the image we have made of him. As we let it go, the truth of the Love he is, joined with our true Self, is revealed.

The daily practice of frequently pausing to relax and accept the peace within welcomes the Holy Spirit’s loving guidance. He leads us to the truth of our unity in Love with all that is real. This practice releases us from the hell we have made by our allegiance to the ego’s dedication to specialness and separation.

We are not the ego, never have been, never will be. We remain Love as Love created us. We choose Love as our Guide today for our thoughts, words and actions. With this practice, we bring Love’s blessing to the world.

We Are Blessed When We Give Love’s Blessing

All gifts my brothers give belong to me.

Each day a thousand treasures come to me with every passing moment. I am blessed with gifts throughout the day, in value far beyond all things of which I can conceive. A brother smiles upon another, and my heart is gladdened. Someone speaks a word of gratitude or mercy, and my mind receives this gift and takes it as its own. And everyone who finds the way to God becomes my savior, pointing out the way to me, and giving me his certainty that what he learned is surely mine as well.

I thank You, Father, for the many gifts that come to me today and every day from every Son of God. My brothers are unlimited in all their gifts to me. Now may I offer them my thankfulness, that gratitude to them may lead me on to my Creator and His memory. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 315, W-pII.315. See also ACIM Lesson 315 Insights.)

The only real gift anyone can give is Love. Because we are all united in the oneness of Love, we are blessed by every loving thought the Son of God extends.

The ego feeds on the proliferation of hate, guilt and fear. Our true Self, the Son of God, thrives on expressions of Love in the world. Each loving thought, each word and action by a brother inspired by Love reminds us of the Love we are. It reminds us of our unity and innocence. It brings peace to the part of our mind that has identified with the ego and leads us toward freedom to be the Love we were created to be.

We Choose the Voice of Love Today

My sinlessness protects me from all harm.

My sinlessness ensures me perfect peace, eternal safety, everlasting love, freedom forever from all thought of loss; complete deliverance from suffering. And only happiness can be my state, for only happiness is given me. What must I do to know all this is mine? I must accept Atonement for myself, and nothing more. God has already done all things that need be done. And I must learn I need do nothing of myself, for I need but accept my Self, my sinlessness, created for me, now already mine, to feel God’s Love protecting me from harm, to understand my Father loves His Son; to know I am the Son my Father loves.

You Who created me in sinlessness are not mistaken about what I am. I was mistaken when I thought I sinned, but I accept Atonement for myself. Father, my dream is ended now. Amen. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 337, W-pII.337. See also ACIM Lesson 337 Insights.)

God has already given us all that we need to be eternally safe, peaceful and loving. When we accept the ego as our guide, we are oblivious to the reality of all God has given us as His Son. Our belief and acceptance of the ego as our identity brings guilt with it. The ego’s message is that our denial of God has condemned us to guilt. It tells us that God is angry because of what we have done. Our experience of fear, no matter what its apparent cause in the world may seem to be, comes from the fear of God instilled by the ego. This experience is based on the lie.

God could not be angry, for he knows nothing has happened to His Son. His Love for the Son He created remains unchanged, for He has not changed His Mind. He does not condemn because He is Love and Love does not condemn.

We accept the Atonement by forgiving ourselves for the mistaken belief that we have succeeded in separating from our Creator. Separation seems to have happened in the dream but never occurred in Reality. Every time we let the Love in our heart heal the self-condemnation, we move closer to awakening to our Home in God. Let’s listen to the Voice of Love today.

The Gift of Christ’s Vision

Now let a new perception come to me.

Father, there is a vision which beholds all things as sinless, so that fear has gone, and where it was is love invited in. And love will come wherever it is asked. This vision is Your gift. The eyes of Christ look on a world forgiven. In His sight are all its sins forgiven, for He sees no sin in anything He looks upon. Now let His true perception come to me, that I may waken from the dream of sin and look within upon my sinlessness, which You have kept completely undefiled upon the altar to Your holy Son, the Self with which I would identify.

Let us today behold each other in the sight of Christ. How beautiful we are! How holy and how loving! Brother, come and join with me today. We save the world when we have joined. For in our vision it becomes as holy as the light in us. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 313, W-pII.313. See also ACIM Lesson 313 Insights.)

When we believe we are a body, we identify with limitation, weakness and lovelessness. We perceive a world where hate is strong and love is weak. But all this is not true. It can only seem real in a dream where the reality of Love is excluded.

We have a new perception available to us right now and always. This new perception shows the way out of the dream. It looks upon the presence of Love beyond the veil of separate identities. Christ’s vision shows us the reality of Love in which we live. It sees that Love in every brother, either as a call for Love or Love’s expression.

A brother’s loveless behavior inspires Love in us instead of fear. We no longer want to hold our brother to his fear-based image. The Love in us is inspired to reach out to our brother to give him Love. The giving of this gift is possible because we have accepted the gift ourselves. We are both blessed in the giving.

Today we call upon Christ’s vision to replace our mistaken perceptions. As we accept this gift, we bring healing to our mind and the world.

From Ego’s Denial to Accepting God’s Peace

Peace to my mind. Let all my thoughts be still.

Father, I come to You today to seek the peace that You alone can give. I come in silence. In the quiet of my heart, the deep recesses of my mind, I wait and listen for Your Voice. My Father, speak to me today. I come to hear Your Voice in silence and in certainty and love, sure You will hear my call and answer me.

Now do we wait in quiet. God is here, because we wait together. I am sure that He will speak to you, and you will hear. Accept my confidence, for it is yours. Our minds are joined. We wait with one intent; to hear our Father’s answer to our call, to let our thoughts be still and find His peace, to hear Him speak to us of what we are, and to reveal Himself unto His Son. God has already given us His peace, for He has given all of Himself to His Son. To experience His peace, we need only accept it. That means we need to stop listening to the ego’s constant stream of thoughts based on belief in separation. Its thoughts deny Love and consequently deny God’s peace.

Today let’s join together in the practice of quieting our mind. We let the ego’s thoughts pass by as we choose not to listen. Like the bullfighter says “Olé!” to the charging bull, we say “Olé!” to the ego’s thoughts. They cannot harm us nor change the reality of our Identity.

We remain as God created us. We claim His peace as we listen to His Voice. We let the vision of Love supersede the ego’s denial. We become more and more aware of the peace of God within and give it to the world.
