Our Prayer to Awaken

We need Your help Holy Spirit. We have been believing in a false idea that it is possible to be separate from our Creator, our Source, our very Being. This belief has left us feeling alone, vulnerable, guilty and fearful. This need not be.

We come to You with open hands and heart, with willingness to have our thoughts and beliefs corrected. We want to know the peace of God. We want to know that we are loved, Love and loving. We want to experience our Creator’s joy. We want to return to our true Home, where we are certain of our safety and join with all our brothers, seeing our innocence and remembering we are one as Love’s only creation.

Help us see past the images of the world that seem so real. We would follow Your lead in each moment, remembering we know nothing on our own. We are confident that You will always lead us to peace. You will always lead us to joy. You will always lead us Home.

Free To Be the Love We Are

Your picture of the world can only mirror what is within. The source of neither light nor darkness can be found without. Grievances darken your mind, and you look out on a darkened world. Forgiveness lifts the darkness, reasserts your will, and lets you look upon a world of light.

…determining to keep your will clearly in mind, tell yourself with gentle firmness and quiet certainty:

I will there be light. Let me behold the light that reflects God’s Will and mine.

The ego seems to have a will of its own. Yet all the ego really has is idle wishes, which produce no real effect. If we want the ego’s idle wishes to be real, if we believe in them, we experience the ego’s idle wishes as having effects. They seem to bring us pain and guilt, sadness and fear, interlaced with brief periods that seem to be to our liking.

The capriciousness of the ego’s idle wishes leaves us with a profound sense of instability and vulnerability. Nothing can be counted on to stay as it is. We must constantly be preparing to protect ourselves and provide for our perceived needs. This is not the will we share with God.

The will we share with God shares His changelessness and certainty. His will never changes. He wills that we have all that He is — changeless Love, peace that cannot be disturbed and joy beyond description. This is the Will He shares with us. Thus it is our will to be eternally Love and loving, safe in perfect peace and resting in quiet joy.

It is holding on to grievances that keeps us from experiencing the will we share with God. As we accept the Holy Spirit’s help to learn that all our grievances have no foundation in truth, we free ourselves from the darkness of the ego thought system. We join in the Light of Love, free to be the Love we were created to be.

The Key to Happiness

Forgiveness lets the veil be lifted up that hides the face of Christ from those who look with unforgiving eyes upon the world. It lets you recognize the Son of God, and clears your memory of all dead thoughts so that remembrance of your Father can arise across the threshold of your mind.

Forgiveness is the key to happiness. I will awaken from the dream that I am mortal, fallible and full of sin, and know I am the perfect Son of God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 121, W-pI.122.3:1-2;121.13:6-7. See also ACIM Lesson 121 Insights.)

Today I choose happiness… I choose to receive Holy Spirit’s healing thoughts… I welcome the Holy Spirit into my mind to receive the healing beingness of peace…

I let my mind rise above all the turmoil of the world to find the Love that is my true Nature… I accept the Love into my heart… A accept the gifts that are inherently mine to receive and extend… Today I remember to extend the Love I have received to every brother I know or think of…

I let the Holy Spirit enlightenment my mind and follow Its healing inspiration… I practice seeing beyond individual personalities to the one Christ Mind that is everyone’s real Mind… I see that everyone is one with God, as I am… and I am filled with gratitude, peace and a sense of well being…

How Do We Choose to See Today?

You see the flesh or recognize the spirit. There is no compromise between the two. If one is real the other must be false, for what is real denies its opposite. There is no choice in vision but this one. What you decide in this determines all you see and think is real and hold as true. On this one choice does all your world depend, for here have you established what you are, as flesh or spirit in your own belief.

Are you invulnerable? Then the world is harmless in your sight. Do you forgive? Then is the world forgiving, for you have forgiven it its trespasses, and so it looks on you with eyes that see as yours. Are you a body? So is all the world perceived as treacherous, and out to kill. Are you a spirit, deathless, and without the promise of corruption and the stain of sin upon you? So the world is seen as stable, fully worthy of your trust; a happy place to rest in for a while, where nothing need be feared, but only loved. Who is unwelcome to the kind in heart? We each have two ways of seeing and each excludes the other. One way sees us as a body in a world of guilt and fear. The other sees us as Spirit, wholly innocent and loving. We are always choosing between these two ways of seeing. The vision that sees Spirit comes from Spirit and cannot be seen with the body’s eyes.

To have this vision, we need Help from beyond the world seen by the body’s eyes. The practice of mindfulness through which we bring our thoughts and perceptions to the Holy Spirit to help us see as Spirit sees is the way out of the hell of a world of fear and guilt.

Today we practice holding our minds open to the Holy Spirit’s vision that we may see a safe world of innocence and Love, happiness and peace.

Holy Spirit’s Healing Lesson

We will not be misled today by what appears to us as sick. We go beyond appearances today and reach the source of healing, from which nothing is exempt. We will succeed to the extent to which we realize that there can never be a meaningful distinction made between what is untrue and equally untrue. Here there are no degrees, and no beliefs that what does not exist is truer in some forms than others. All of them are false, and can be cured because they are not true.

We will be still and listen for the Voice of healing, which will cure all ills as one, restoring saneness to the Son of God. No voice but this can cure. Today we hear a single Voice which speaks to us of truth, where all illusions end, and peace returns to the eternal, quiet home of God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 140, W-pI.140.9;10:2-4. The Home of God is our home. It is where we were created to be. To know we are at home, we must accept that we are Love and nothing else. There is no place in the Home of God for anything but the changeless perfection of His Love.

The appearance of illness in our experience must mean that we believe we are not at home in God’s Love. This is nothing more than a false idea that can be corrected. As we are willing to listen to the Voice of truth, we open our minds to truth, and illusions disappear. False ideas recognized as untrue fade into the nothingness from which they came.

Today we practice bringing all our perceptions to the Holy Spirit in our mind with willingness to receive His gentle lessons which teach to recognize what is not true and let it go. Thus do we make way for true and lasting healing.

Which Guide Do We Choose?

Love’s messengers are gently sent, and return with messages of love and gentleness. The messengers of fear are harshly ordered to seek out guilt…. What fear would feed upon, love overlooks. What fear demands, love cannot even see.… What love would look upon is meaningless to fear, and quite invisible.

The Holy Spirit has given you love’s messengers to send instead of those you trained through fear. They are as eager to return to you what they hold dear as are the others. If you send them forth, they will see only the blameless and the beautiful, the gentle and the kind. They will be as careful to let no little act of charity, no tiny expression of forgiveness, no little breath of love escape their notice. And they will return with all the happy things they found, to share them lovingly with you. Be not afraid of them. They offer you salvation. Theirs are the messages of safety, for they see the world as kind. (A Course in Miracles, T-19.IV.A.11:1-2,4-5,7;14. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

Which voice do we want to follow? The ego will always guide us to see guilt and cause for fear. It shows us an embattled world, which we must defend against. We do not have to follow this guide.

The Holy Spirit guides us to see the Love that is ever present, everywhere behind the ego’s false images of fear. As we let Holy Spirit guide our seeing, we see Love, kindness, gentleness and safety. We see a world that blesses and we extend the blessing freely and lovingly. Which guide do we choose? Our choice will determine what we experience.

Let the Voice for God Judge on Our Behalf

Let Him be Judge as well of everything that seems to happen to you in this world. His lessons will enable you to bridge the gap between illusions and the truth.

He will remove all faith that you have placed in pain, disaster, suffering and loss. He gives you vision which can look beyond these grim appearances, and can behold the gentle face of Christ in all of them. You will no longer doubt that only good can come to you who are beloved of God, for He will judge all happenings, and teach the single lesson that they all contain.

He will select the elements in them which represent the truth, and disregard those aspects which reflect but idle dreams. And He will reinterpret all you see, and all occurrences, each circumstance, and every happening that seems to touch on you in any way from His one frame of reference, wholly unified and sure. And you will see the love beyond the hate, the constancy in change, the pure in sin, and only Heaven’s blessing on the world. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 151, W-pI.151.9:6-11:3. In order to let the Holy Spirit be the judge, instead of basing our judgments on our learning from the past, we open our minds and are receptive to Holy Spirit’s insight. We pause and listen often… We invite Holy Spirit into our awareness often… We create a space and make room for Holy Spirit’s reinterpretation of what we are seeing through the body’s eyes… We open to the presence of peace, which helps us see clearly to discern the difference between truth and illusion…

We make full use of Holy Spirit’s desire to help us past the ego’s false images to the presence of changeless Love. As we consistently practice this, our thoughts are purified and we are freed from the ego’s prison of false perception.
