Learning to Accept Our True Reality

There is a way of finding certainty right here and now. Refuse to be a part of fearful dreams whatever form they take, for you will lose identity in them. You find yourself by not accepting [fearful dreams] as causing you, and giving you effects. You stand apart from them, but not apart from him who dreams them. Thus you separate the dreamer from the dream, and join in one, but let the other go. The dream is but illusion in the mind. And with the mind you would unite, but never with the dream. It is the dream you fear, and not the mind. You see them [dream and mind] as the same, because you think that you are but a dream. And what is real and what is but illusion in yourself you do not know and cannot tell apart. (A Course in Miracles, T-28.IV.2. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

When we believe we are a separate identity with a body in a world of separate bodies, we are believing that we are only a dream. Having accepted a dream figure as what we are, we cannot distinguish illusion from Reality. But we can be taught to recognize illusion for what it is. Thankfully, the instant we accepted the false idea of being separate, we were given the Teacher Who can teach us how to learn that we are not the false image we made.

We can refuse to be part of the fearful dream of separation by forming the habit of keeping our minds open to the Holy Spirit’s vision. When anything seems to disturb our peace, the habit of bringing that appearance to the Holy Spirit and accepting the Holy Spirit’s loving correction of the misperception is how we learn to distinguish the false from the true, the illusion from the reality. It’s how we wake up from the nightmare of fear and guilt. Today is another joyful opportunity to practice.
