Releasing the Past to Return to Love

⁴Always has no direction. ⁵Time seems to go in one direction, but when you reach its end it will roll up like a long carpet spread along the past behind you, and will disappear. ⁶As long as you believe the Son of God is guilty you will walk along this carpet, believing that it leads to death. ⁷And the journey will seem long and cruel and senseless, for so it is.

⁴The Holy Spirit stands at the end of time, where you must be because He is with you. ⁵He has already undone everything unworthy of the Son of God, for such was His mission, given Him by God. ⁶And what God gives has always been.

You will see me as you learn the Son of God is guiltless. ²He has always sought his guiltlessness, and he has found it. ³For everyone is seeking to escape from the prison he has made, and the way to find release is not denied him. ⁴Being in him, he has found it. ⁵When he finds it is only a matter of time, and time is but an illusion. ⁶For the Son of God is guiltless now, and the brightness of his purity shines untouched forever in God’s Mind. ⁷God’s Son will always be as he was created. ⁸Deny your world and judge him not, for his eternal guiltlessness is in the Mind of his Father, and protects him forever. The ego uses time to make guilt seem eternal, and death inevitable. Yet guilt seems justified only while we hang on to memories of the “past.” Yet our true Self, the Son of God, was created as an extension of His Love.

His Love is changeless and His creations are equally changeless. What is one always, cannot be subject to time. Our only barrier against remembering Love’s timelessness is the belief that we have separated from timeless Love. What God created has never changed.

Guilt can never be true. We release ourselves from the past when we forgive illusions of loss and harm. Without these illusions, guilt has no basis and we awaken in the eternal oneness of God’s Love.

Willingness to Accept Help to Awaken to Love

The plan [for your salvation] is not of you, nor need you be concerned with anything except the part that has been given you to learn. ²For He Who knows the rest will see to it without your help. ³But think not that He does not need your part to help Him with the rest. ⁴For in your part lies all of it, without which is no part complete, nor is the whole completed without your part.

You may wonder how you can be at peace when, while you are in time, there is so much that must be done before the way to peace is open. ²Perhaps this seems impossible to you. ³But ask yourself if it is possible that God would have a plan for your salvation that does not work. ⁴Once you accept His plan as the one function that you would fulfill, there will be nothing else the Holy Spirit will not arrange for you without your effort. ⁵He will go before you making straight your path, and leaving in your way no stones to trip on, and no obstacles to bar your way. ⁶Nothing you need will be denied you. ⁷Not one seeming difficulty but will melt away before you reach it. ⁸You need take thought for nothing, careless of everything except the only purpose that you would fulfill. ⁹As that was given you, so will its fulfillment be. ¹⁰God’s guarantee will hold against all obstacles, for it rests on certainty and not contingency. ¹¹It rests on you. ¹²And what can be more certain than a Son of God? The plan for our awakening is for us to see the innocence of Love in everyone. In the dream we do not see innocence while we see ourselves as separate individuals. The oneness of Love has no differences nor distinctions. God’s plan requires only our willingness to see the innocence of Love in everyone, including ourselves.

Willingness to forgive our wish for individuality and distinctions is all that is required to open the door to the Holy Spirit’s unlimited help. This willingness may be only partial at first. But every moment of willingness allows the Holy Spirit to bring more of the Light of Love to our troubled mind. This Light shines away the dark illusions of separation. As we let this Light in, we become increasingly aware of the Love that is in every heart, everywhere, always.

It is the Holy Spirit’s purpose to assist us on this journey of awakening. It is the journey out of illusions that returns us to the oneness of Love. Today we are willing to accept His help to see with the eyes of Love.

Welcoming God’s Limitless Love

Grace is acceptance of the Love of God within a world of seeming hate and fear. ²By grace alone the hate and fear are gone, for grace presents a state so opposite to everything the world contains, that those whose minds are lighted by the gift of grace can not believe the world of fear is real.

Oneness is simply the idea God is. ²And in His Being, He encompasses all things. ³No mind holds anything but Him. ⁴We say “God is,” and then we cease to speak, for in that knowledge words are meaningless. ⁵There are no lips to speak them, and no part of mind sufficiently distinct to feel that it is now aware of something not itself. ⁶It has united with its Source. ⁷And like its Source Itself, it merely is.

³What is the face of Christ but his who went a moment into timelessness, and brought a clear reflection of the unity he felt an instant back to bless the world?

Be grateful to return, as you were glad to go an instant, and accept the gifts that grace provided you.

³By grace I live. ⁴By grace I am released.

God’s Love is one and changeless. When we are willing to accept His Love without limits, we experience the timelessness that comes with the changelessness of Love’s unity.

When we forgive any belief in limitation, we open our mind to receiving God’s limitless gift, His grace. Forgiveness welcomes the holy instant in which we allow ourselves to experience the unlimited Love we are.

It is God’s grace that keeps Love changeless. As we welcome our true Reality as Love, we represent God’s grace in the dream of lovelessness. We become a conduit for Love that dispels all hate, fear and guilt. We give the gift of Love with joy. There is no greater joy than to join in the eternal giving and receiving of Love that is our Home.

Today we are willing to accept the Holy Spirit’s help to lay down our limiting beliefs and welcome the Love God gives without limit.

Awakening from the Vast Illusion

What has been given you? ²The knowledge that you are a mind, in Mind and purely mind, sinless forever, wholly unafraid, because you were created out of love. ³Nor have you left your Source, remaining as you were created. ⁴This was given you as knowledge which you cannot lose. ⁵It was given as well to every living thing, for by that knowledge only does it live.

You have received all this. ²No one who walks the world but has received it.… ⁷Experience cannot be shared directly, in the way that vision can. ⁸The revelation that the Father and the Son are one will come in time to every mind.

The time is set already. ²It appears to be quite arbitrary. ³Yet there is no step along the road that anyone takes but by chance.… ⁶We but undertake a journey that is over. ⁷Yet it seems to have a future still unknown to us.

Time is a trick, a sleight of hand, a vast illusion in which figures come and go as if by magic. ²Yet there is a plan behind appearances that does not change. ³The script is written. ⁴When experience will come to end your doubting has been set. ⁵For we but see the journey from the point at which it ended, looking back on it, imagining we make it once again; reviewing mentally what has gone by. The thought of timelessness is inconceivable in the dream of individuality and separation. This dream seems to have no escape. At best its end is oblivion which is labeled death. Yet this dream of separation and time is a vast illusion.

The truth of What we are is mind in the Mind of God. His Mind is eternal and changeless. Because our mind is in His Mind, our true Self is eternal and changeless. This means we are eternally Love and nothing else.

Outside of the dream, we know this to be true. But we have given credence to a dream that denies truth. We need to be taught to recognize the unreality of the dream. We have a Teacher given us by our Creator to teach us how to let go of the dream and awaken to eternal Life. This Teacher recognizes our beliefs and gently guides us to let them go, as we are willing.

With His help we learn there is no cause for fear or guilt. We let go of the beliefs that deny Love’s presence. We join in the joy of extending the Love given us by our Creator as we join Him in Love’s extension. Thus do we awaken to timelessness and eternal Life.

Welcoming the Self That Lives in Love

When you are still an instant, when the world recedes from you, when valueless ideas cease to have value in your restless mind, then will you hear His Voice.

Take time today to lay aside your shield which profits nothing, and lay down the spear and sword you raised against an enemy without existence. ²Christ has called you friend and brother.

You have not lost your innocence. ²It is for this you yearn. ³This is your heart’s desire. ⁴This is the voice you hear, and this the call which cannot be denied.…⁸And now the way is open, and the journey has an end in sight at last. ⁹Be still an instant and go home with Him, and be at peace a while. The value we have given to specialness has led to a dream of separation, isolation and a sense of loss that results in yearning to return to the place where we are at Home. This return will happen when we lay aside the value we have given specialness.

Christ remains with us in our hearts, forever joined with our true Self. Today we are willing to set aside the value we have given to illusions and welcome this Self that dwells eternally at Home in the Love of God.

Becoming Love’s Messenger

Why wait for Heaven? ²Those who seek the light are merely covering their eyes. ³The light is in them now. ⁴Enlightenment is but a recognition, not a change at all. ⁵Light is not of the world, yet you who bear the light in you are alien here as well. ⁶The light came with you from your native home, and stayed with you because it is your own. ⁷It is the only thing you bring with you from Him Who is your Source. ⁸It shines in you because it lights your home, and leads you back to where it came from and you are at home.

⁵It is not difficult to look within, for there all vision starts. ⁶There is no sight, be it of dreams or from a truer Source, that is not but the shadow of the seen through inward vision. ⁷There perception starts, and there it ends. ⁸It has no source but this.

The peace of God is shining in you now, and from your heart extends around the world. ²It pauses to caress each living thing, and leaves a blessing with it that remains forever and forever. (A Course in Miracles, W-188.1;2:5–3:2. See also ACIM Lesson 188 Insights.)

The Light of Love is our true Self. It is forever joyous and at peace. It goes with us wherever we go because It is everything that is real. Whether we are aware of It or not, the Light of Love in us continuously blesses the world with kindness and peace.

We call upon this Light within each time we accept It’s offering of peace. In that peace we welcome the Holy Spirit’s interpretation of all our perceptions. As we accept the Light within, we become Love’s messengers in the world. We forgive the world for all we thought it was.

Forgiveness Returns Us to Our True Self

It is your Father’s holy Will that you complete Himself, and that your Self shall be His sacred Son, forever pure as He, of love created and in love preserved, extending love, creating in its name, forever one with God and with your Self.

³Forgiveness represents your function here.

…God created One Who has the power to translate in form the wholly formless. ⁶What He makes are dreams, but of a kind so close to waking that the light of day already shines in them, and eyes already opening behold the joyful sights their offerings contain.

Forgiveness gently looks upon all things unknown in Heaven, sees them disappear, and leaves the world a clean and unmarked slate on which the Word of God can now replace the senseless symbols written there before. ²Forgiveness is the means by which the fear of death is overcome, because it holds no fierce attraction now and guilt is gone. ³Forgiveness lets the body be perceived as what it is; a simple teaching aid, to be laid by when learning is complete, but hardly changing him who learns at all. This lesson begins with a clear statement about the Self we were created to be. If we had not convinced ourselves that we successfully separated from the oneness of God’s Love, there were would be no need for forgiveness. But it is needed in the dream we think is real.

Forgiveness is the way to release our mistaken beliefs that are the cause of our dream of separation. We cannot use our own thinking to forgive. Our engagement with the ego keeps us locked within its thought system.

We must open to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. With His help, we will learn to recognize the ego’s false images as illusions and meaningless. With this recognition the illusions are dispelled and the truth is returned to our mind. Forgiveness dispels the ego’s barriers to Love’s presence and we awaken to the Self God created as His Son.
