Learning of Our Oneness with All

Christ’s vision has one law. ²It does not look upon a body, and mistake it for the Son whom God created. ³It beholds a light beyond the body; an idea beyond what can be touched, a purity undimmed by errors, pitiful mistakes, and fearful thoughts of guilt from dreams of sin. ⁴It sees no separation. ⁵And it looks on everyone, on every circumstance, all happenings and all events, without the slightest fading of the light it sees.

[Christ’s vision] can be taught; and must be taught by all who would achieve it. ²It requires but the recognition that the world can not give anything that faintly can compare with this in value; nor set up a goal that does not merely disappear when this has been perceived. ³And this you give today: See no one as a body. ⁴Greet him as the Son of God he is, acknowledging that he is one with you in holiness.

Thus are his sins forgiven him, for Christ has vision that has power to overlook them all.

²And thus Christ’s vision looks on you as well. ³This lesson is not difficult to learn, if you remember in your brother you but see yourself. ⁴If he be lost in sin, so must you be; if you see light in him, your sins have been forgiven by yourself. ⁵Each brother whom you meet today provides another chance to let Christ’s vision shine on you, and offer you the peace of God. (A Course in Miracles, W-158.7:1–9:1;10:2-5. See also ACIM Lesson 158 Insights.)

Nothing the body’s eyes show is has any reality, because the body itself is not real. The body and the world of separation stands as a barrier that hides the truth of our Reality in the oneness of God’s Love. We have trained ourselves to trust what the body’s eyes see.

We have not lost the means to see the presence of Love. We simply need to retrain our mind to trust our inner vision which looks on all from the perspective of Love. This is Christ’s vision. It sees only the holiness of Love everywhere and in everyone. It overlooks the meaningless images of the ego’s world. As we give Christ’s vision priority, we learn that we are united with All in the peace of God.

Remembering Our Purpose to Be Love

My only function is the one God gave me.

The idea for today reaffirms your commitment to salvation. ²It also reminds you that you have no function other than that. ³Both these thoughts are obviously necessary for a total commitment. ⁴Salvation cannot be the only purpose you hold while you still cherish others. ⁵The full acceptance of salvation as your only function necessarily entails two phases; the recognition of salvation as your function, and the relinquishment of all the other goals you have invented for yourself.

³This is the only way in which you can find peace of mind.

²Today’s idea offers you escape from all your perceived difficulties. ³It places the key to the door of peace, which you have closed upon yourself, in your own hands. ⁴It gives you the answer to all the searching you have done since time began.

…close your eyes, repeat the idea to yourself once again, and watch your mind carefully to catch whatever thoughts cross it. ³At first, make no attempt to concentrate only on thoughts related to the idea for the day. ⁴Rather, try to uncover each thought that arises to interfere with it. ⁵Note each one as it comes to you, with as little involvement or concern as possible, dismissing each one by telling yourself:

⁶This thought reflects a goal that is preventing me from accepting my only function.

⁴On this clean slate let my true function be written for me.

…try to get the sense of being willing to have your illusions of purpose be replaced by truth.”

²My only function is the one God gave me. ³I want no other and I have no other. (W-65.1;2:3;3:2-4;5:2-6;6:4-5;8:2-3)

We were created by Love as Love, and nothing else. As Love, our only function is to extend Love without limit.

When we believe we are limited by a body in a world of separation, we believe we have added something else to our identity. By forgiving this mistaken belief, we save ourselves from the illusion that Love can be limited in any way.

When we recognize a thought that interferes with our extension of Love, we need to let it pass by and welcome the thoughts of Love that unite us with our brothers and our Father. As we assert our dedication to being Love’s expression, we identify with our true Self as God’s extension of His Love.

Remembering Our Father’s Sure Protection

There is a light in you the world can not perceive. ²And with its eyes you will not see this light, for you are blinded by the world. ³Yet you have eyes to see it. ⁴It is there for you to look upon. ⁵It was not placed in you to be kept hidden from your sight. ⁶This light is a reflection of the thought we practice now. ⁷To feel the Love of God within you is to see the world anew, shining in innocence, alive with hope, and blessed with perfect charity and love.

Who could feel fear in such a world as this? ²It welcomes you, rejoices that you came, and sings your praises as it keeps you safe from every form of danger and of pain. ³It offers you a warm and gentle home in which to stay a while. ⁴It blesses you throughout the day, and watches through the night as silent guardian of your holy sleep. ⁵It sees salvation in you, and protects the light in you, in which it sees its own.

This is the world the Love of God reveals.

⁵If you feel the Love of God within you, you will look out on a world of mercy and of love. (A Course in Miracles, W-189.1:1–2:5;3:1;5:5. See also ACIM Lesson 189 Insights.)

To the ego, the world this lesson describes is inconceivable. That is because it does not know what Love is. All the forms the ego conjures contain some element of danger and pain which can not exist within the oneness of God’s Love.

We are learning that the ego’s dark world is not our home. Our true Self resides in God’s Love, where we are always “blessed with perfect charity and love.” His Love remains within us. It is the light in which our inner vision sees our eternal unity with our Father and every brother. We can rest with certainty that we are held eternally within His sure protection.

Resting in the Eternal Love We Are

I bless the world because I bless myself.

²God’s blessing shines upon me from within my heart, where He abides. ³I need but turn to Him, and every sorrow melts away, as I accept His boundless Love for me.

²I will be still, and let the earth be still along with me. ³And in that stillness we will find the peace of God. ⁴It is within my heart, which witnesses to God Himself.

⁵I am not a body. ⁶I am free.
⁷For I am still as God created me.
(W-207.1:1-3;208.1:2-7)

Imagine what it would feel like if you were in a situation where you felt perfectly safe, perfectly fulfilled and perfectly loved. The best your imagination can provide you is the tiniest inkling of what God has already given us, His Son. The Love He is is already ours. It is in us now, eternal and changeless.

Today we are reminding ourselves of the Reality in which we live and have our being. All this we can recognize when we accept that we are not a body in a world of separation. We are the spirit of Love, forever remaining as Love created us. We are eternally united in Love with a bond that can never be broken. We rest in this thought today and invite all our brothers to rest with us.

Welcoming the Reality of Love

God is in everything I see.

The idea for today explains why you can see all purpose in everything. ²It explains why nothing is separate, by itself or in itself. ³And it explains why nothing you see means anything. ⁴In fact, it explains every idea we have used thus far, and all subsequent ones as well. ⁵Today’s idea is the whole basis for vision.

You will probably find this idea very difficult to grasp at this point. ²You may find it silly, irreverent, senseless, funny and even objectionable. ³Certainly God is not in a table, for example, as you see it.

Try then, today, to begin to learn how to look on all things with love, appreciation and open-mindedness. ²You do not see them now. ³Would you know what is in them? ⁴Nothing is as it appears to you. ⁵Its holy purpose stands beyond your little range. ⁶When vision has shown you the holiness that lights up the world, you will understand today’s idea perfectly. (A Course in Miracles, W-29.1:1–2:3;3:1-6. See also ACIM Lesson 29 Insights.)

All appearances in the world are ego decoys that interfere with what the vision of our true Self sees. As part of God, our one Self sees only the Love of God. Nothing else exists. By reminding ourselves that God is in everything we see, we are training our minds to be open to the vision of our true Self.

This vision shows us that we live in God’s Universe of Love. We overlook the empty images the ego offers, knowing they can have no effect on our eternal state of peace and joy. We are opening our mind to welcome the reality of Love.

Being What We Were Created to Be

Forgiveness recognizes what you thought your brother did to you has not occurred. ²It does not pardon sins and make them real. ³It sees there was no sin. ⁴And in that view are all your sins forgiven. ⁵What is sin, except a false idea about God’s Son? ⁶Forgiveness merely sees its falsity, and therefore lets it go. ⁷What then is free to take its place is now the Will of God.

An unforgiving thought is one which makes a judgment that it will not raise to doubt, although it is not true. ²The mind is closed, and will not be released.”

Forgiveness, on the other hand, is still, and quietly does nothing. ²It offends no aspect of reality, nor seeks to twist it to appearances it likes. ³It merely looks, and waits, and judges not. …he who would forgive himself must learn to welcome truth exactly as it is.

Do nothing, then, and let forgiveness show you what to do, through Him Who is your Guide, your Savior and Protector, strong in hope, and certain of your ultimate success. ²He has forgiven you already, for such is His function, given Him by God. ³Now must you share His function, and forgive whom He has saved, whose sinlessness He sees, and whom He honors as the Son of God. (A Course in Miracles, W-pII.1.1:1–2:2;4:1-3,5–5:3.)

Because the ego is not real, it must constantly occupy our minds with its denial of reality. It offers us a dream filled with images that seem convincingly real. Only our interest in specialness keeps it in place.

When we let the Holy Spirit show us the truth of our oneness with All in God’s Love, we see past the ego’s denials. It becomes clear that nothing can occur to change our eternal unity in Love. There is nothing external to our true Identity to judge against. We cease engaging with the ego’s denials. We let our forgiveness show us how to let the Love we are extend to every brother, and remember we remain one with our Creator. We just need to let ourselves be the Love we were created to be.

Peace Is Found in Our Identity in God

God’s Name is holy, but no holier than yours. ²To call upon His Name is but to call upon your own. ³A father gives his son his name, and thus identifies the son with him. ⁴His brothers share his name, and thus are they united in a bond to which they turn for their identity. ⁵Your Father’s Name reminds you who you are, even within a world that does not know; even though you have not remembered it.

Repeat the Name of God, and call upon your Self, Whose Name is His. ²Repeat His Name, and all the tiny, nameless things on earth slip into right perspective. ³Those who call upon the Name of God can not mistake the nameless for the Name, nor sin for grace, nor bodies for the holy Son of God. ⁴And should you join a brother as you sit with him in silence, and repeat God’s Name along with him within your quiet mind, you have established there an altar which reaches to God Himself and to His Son.

All little things are silent. ²Little sounds are soundless now. ³The little things of earth have disappeared. ⁴The universe consists of nothing but the Son of God, who calls upon his Father. ⁵And his Father’s Voice gives answer in his Father’s holy Name. ⁶In this eternal, still relationship, in which communication far transcends all words, and yet exceeds in depth and height whatever words could possibly convey, is peace eternal. ⁷In our Father’s Name, we would experience this peace today. ⁸And in His Name, it shall be given us. (A Course in Miracles, W-183.1;5;11. See also ACIM Lesson 183 Insights.)

Our true Identity is in God, Who has no limits, being eternal and infinite. As His extension we, His Son, share all that He is. In the world, words are used to name objects so we can identify what they are. But in God’s Universe there is only one Reality. His Name encompasses All That is, including His extension.

Today we are being called to recognize that God’s Identity is ours. Nothing else exists. God is unlimited and therefore so are we. Today we take time to identify with our Creator and let go of beliefs that we are limited to a body or separate identity. In our true Identity, we find perfect peace and happiness.
