The Radiant Love of the Present Moment

The past is over. It can touch me not.

Unless the past is over in my mind, the real world must escape my sight. ²For I am really looking nowhere; seeing but what is not there. ³How can I then perceive the world forgiveness offers? ⁴This the past was made to hide, for this the world that can be looked on only now. ⁵It has no past. ⁶For what can be forgiven but the past, and if it is forgiven it is gone.

Father, let me not look upon a past that is not there. ²For You have offered me Your Own replacement, in a present world the past has left untouched and free of sin. ³Here is the end of guilt. ⁴And here am I made ready for Your final step. ⁵Shall I demand that You wait longer for Your Son to find the loveliness You planned to be the end of all his dreams and all his pain? The ego is wholly focused on the past. Its concept of time makes the past unchangeable and forever bound to influence the future. The ego knows nothing about the present because the present is timeless.

The Holy Spirit is our teacher Whose purpose is to help us learn that nothing exists in the past or future. Only present Love is real. If we give Him a chance to teach us how to look upon the past, we will realize that it is not here in the present. The past cannot alter the present moment because it only seems to exist in a dream built upon “memories” of the past. By definition, a memory is not now. Without the ability to have any effect now, the past is meaningless and nothing.

This we will learn if we are willing to consistently choose the Holy Spirit as our Teacher and Guide in our daily lives. His purpose for time is to use it for forgiveness, to let the past go. Free of the past, the radiant Love of the present moment fills our lives.

The Reward Forgiveness Offers

³Errors are of the ego, and correction of errors lies in the relinquishment of the ego.”

Your brother’s errors are not of him, any more than yours are of you. ²Accept his errors as real, and you have attacked yourself. ³If you would find your way and keep it, see only truth beside you for you walk together. ⁴The Holy Spirit in you forgives all things in you and in your brother.

The Holy Spirit forgives everything because God created everything. ²Do not undertake His function, or you will forget yours. ³Accept only the function of healing in time, because that is what time is for. ⁴God gave you the function to create [extend Love] in eternity. ⁵You do not need to learn that, but you do need to learn to want it. ⁶For that all learning was made. ⁷This is the Holy Spirit’s use of an ability that you do not need, but that you made. ⁸Give [learning] to Him! ⁹You do not understand how to use it. ¹⁰He will teach you how to see yourself without condemnation, by learning how to look on everything without it. ¹¹Condemnation will then not be real to you, and all your errors will be forgiven. We identify with the ego because it seems to give us the specialness we think we want. Because specialness cannot exist in the oneness of Love, we can only get what we want in a dream that denies reality. We pay a steep price for choosing the ego as our guide. We lose awareness of the Love we are and seem to live in a world of fear. The ego condemns everything it makes but the Love we are sees only Itself everywhere.

When we forgive the wish for specialness, we remember we are Love. We taught ourselves to forget our Identity. Because of this, we need a Teacher from outside this belief system to learn that the world of fear and separation is not real. The ultimate lesson leads to the full remembrance that we are Love, created by Love, unchangeable and eternally one.

Today we remind ourselves frequently to ask the Holy Spirit to guide our thoughts, our words and our actions. Under His guidance, we will remember we are Love and nothing else.

The Gift That Heals Our Guilt

No call to God can be unheard nor left
unanswered. And of this I can be sure;
His answer is the one I really want.

You Who remember what I really am alone remember what I really want. ²You speak for God, and so You speak for me. ³And what You give me comes from God Himself. ⁴Your Voice, my Father, then is mine as well, and all I want is what You offer me, in just the form You choose that it be mine. ⁵Let me remember all I do not know, and let my voice be still, remembering. ⁶But let me not forget Your Love and care, keeping Your promise to Your Son in my awareness always. ⁷Let me not forget myself is nothing, but my Self is all. The ego offers many “gifts” that appeal to our wish for specialness. These forms have no meaningful content because they deny the oneness of Love. We have taught ourselves to value form over content. We treasure what keeps us bound to the ego.

We need to learn that our true treasure is in God’s gift of all of His Love, without limit. His Voice speaks to us of our true treasure in the language we have taught ourselves to “understand.” So the means to release ourselves from the limitations of the ego is given us in a form we can understand. That gift is always some form of forgiveness applied to our particular need. This forgiveness heals the guilt we carry that is reflected in our perception of the world.

In truth, there is no cause for guilt. Nothing has changed the Love we are as God’s Son. But our investment in form leads us to believe that harm and loss are possible and real. The ego points to the forms accusingly to show us what we have done that demands guilt. The Holy Spirit points to them with happy laughter by showing us nothing really happened. The Son of God is still Love as Love created Him.

Today we welcome the Holy Spirit’s transformative gifts that dispel guilt, for we would awaken to our reality as God’s Son.

Being a Messenger of Love in the World

We stand together, Christ and I, in peace
and certainty of purpose. And in Him
is His Creator, as He is in me.

My oneness with the Christ establishes me as Your Son, beyond the reach of time, and wholly free of every law but Yours. ²I have no self except the Christ in me. ³I have no purpose but His Own. ⁴And He is like His Father. ⁵Thus must I be one with You as well as Him. ⁶For who is Christ except Your Son as You created Him? ⁷And what am I except the Christ in me? The ego wants us to believe we are not the Christ. Acknowledging the Christ in us would disown the ego. For us to awaken to our true Self, we must let go of our mistaken identification with the ego.

We let go of the ego through forgiveness of our mistaken beliefs. Only these beliefs stand in the way of our awareness of the Christ within. Christ has never left us, for as God’s Son, we were created as the Christ.

Today we continue our journey of awakening by choosing the Holy Spirit as our Guide for all our thoughts, words and actions. With this practice we fulfill our purpose as messengers of Love in the world.

The Foundation of Forgiveness

I do not know what anything is for.

Purpose is meaning. ²Today’s idea explains why nothing you see means anything.

You perceive the world and everything in it as meaningful in terms of ego goals. ²These goals have nothing to do with your own best interests, because the ego is not you. ³This false identification makes you incapable of understanding what anything is for. ⁴As a result, you are bound to misuse it. ⁵When you believe this, you will try to withdraw the goals you have assigned to the world, instead of attempting to reinforce them.

Another way of describing the goals you now perceive is to say that they are all concerned with “personal” interests. ²Since you have no personal [separate] interests, your goals are really concerned with nothing.

It is crucial to your learning to be willing to give up the goals you have established for everything. ²The recognition that they are meaningless, rather than “good” or “bad,” is the only way to accomplish this. (A Course in Miracles, W-25.1:1-2;2:1-3:2;5:1-2. See also ACIM Lesson 25 Insights.)

This lesson is the foundation of the Course’s teaching on forgiveness. When we align with the ego, we accept the meaning it gives for the images of separation it projects. But we are not the ego. This fact is why we are not eternally condemned to live in the hell of separation. The ego’s world denies the reality of Love’s oneness and thus it denies Life Itself. True Life is the eternal giving and receiving of Love.

Our conviction that separation is real must be undone for us to awaken from the dream and remember that we are Love and nothing else. Reminding ourselves frequently that we do not know what any appearance means unlocks the door to forgiveness. We become willing to accept that there may be a different meaning than we perceive. Now we are teachable. Our inner Teacher will lead us to the true meaning of Love’s reality.

Appearances of separation are transformed as we are shown the opportunity to join with the Love that is everywhere in everything. Only the Love is real. With the Holy Spirit’s help, we see Love’s Reality beyond the appearances which stood as a barrier against Love’s presence.

Today we practice welcoming the Holy Spirit’s loving lessons in forgiveness as we remember we do not know what anything means.

Awakening to God’s Love in Us

⁹Everyone God created is part of you and shares His glory with you. ¹⁰His glory belongs to Him, but it is equally yours. ¹¹You cannot, then, be less glorious than He is.

³Neither God’s light nor yours is dimmed because you do not see. ⁴Because the Sonship must create as one, you remember creation whenever you recognize part of creation. ⁵Each part you remember adds to your wholeness because each part _is_ whole. ⁶Wholeness is indivisible, but you cannot learn of your wholeness until you see it everywhere. ⁷You can know yourself only as God knows His Son, for knowledge is shared with God. ⁸When you awake in Him you will know your magnitude by accepting His limitlessness as yours.

²Very simply, the Holy Spirit teaches you to awaken others. ³As you see them waken you will learn what waking means, and because you have chosen to wake them, their gratitude and their appreciation of what you have given them will teach you its value.

⁸Accept [the truth of] your brother in this world and accept nothing else, for in him you will find your creations because he created [extended Love] with you. ⁹You will never know that you are co-creator with God until you learn that your brother is co-creator with you. Everything we see in the world reflects what we believe we are. When we believe we are a separate identity, we seem to be surrounded by other separate identities. But as we learn to see the truth in our brothers, we realize we are surrounded by Love, the glory of God. His Love, His glory are ours because He shared them with His Son in His creation.

The way to see the truth in our brothers is to forgive our mistaken beliefs about what we are. Our perceptions of our brothers show us either the truth of what we are or reflect back to us our mistaken beliefs about what we are. These reflections are gifts providing an opportunity to recognize and forgive a mistaken belief. Our brothers’ calls for love help us see our own. The form of the call may seem to be different, but the underlying error is the same. We are not separate. We are one in the glory and Love of God.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us see the glory of God in our brothers so we can learn to see It in ourselves. Thus we awaken to the glory we share with God. We awaken to Love.

The Path That Leads to Heaven’s Love

No one remains in hell, for no one can abandon his Creator, nor affect His perfect, timeless and unchanging Love. ²You will find Heaven. ³Everything you seek but this will fall away. ⁴Yet not because it has been taken from you. ⁵It will go because you do not want it. ⁶You will reach the goal you really want as certainly as God created you in sinlessness.

⁵For several minutes watch your mind and see, although your eyes are closed, the senseless world you think is real. ⁶Review the thoughts as well which are compatible with such a world, and which you think are true. ⁷Then let them go, and sink below them to the holy place where they can enter not. ⁸There is a door beneath them in your mind, which you could not completely lock to hide what lies beyond.

Put out your hand, and see how easily the door swings open with your one intent to go beyond it. ²Angels light the way, so that all darkness vanishes, and you are standing in a light so bright and clear that you can understand all things you see.

You cannot fail today. ²There walks with you the Spirit Heaven sent you, that you might approach this door some day, and through His aid slip effortlessly past it, to the light. ³Today that day has come. (A Course in Miracles, W-131.5;11:5-8;13:1-2;14:1-3. See also ACIM Lesson 131 Insights.)

The world seems real because we have accepted the ego as our identity and guide. The thought that separation and specialness could offer us something of value and worth striving for made a world filled with images that are not true. Specialness could never be true in the oneness of eternal Love, the only reality. But our wish for something else has filled our mind with substitutes that interfere with our awareness of the Love God gave His Son in his creation.

The first step in awakening to our Home in Heaven is to become aware that the things we seek for in the world offer nothing we really want. The goals we seem to achieve in the world lose their value when they are achieved. The ego answers by sending us on another search for meaning and value. But they cannot be found in illusions.

When we honestly step back and look at what we do in the world, we realize there must be a better way, a way that does not continue with fruitless searching. We become willing to move beyond the images of the world to open the door to the awareness of Love’s Light. Here we find the peace of God. We find the certainty and joy of engaging with the Love that is our Being.

Today we choose to pause and reflect on what we have been searching for. We ask the Holy Spirit to help us see where our true treasure is. We are willing to follow His lead on the path that leads to Heaven’s Love.
