Claiming God’s Love as Our Identity

²It is but lies that would condemn. ³In truth is innocence the only thing there is. ⁴Forgiveness stands between illusions and the truth; between the world you see and that which lies beyond; between the hell of guilt and Heaven’s gate.

Across this bridge, as powerful as love which laid its blessing on it, are all dreams of evil and of hatred and attack brought silently to truth. ²They are not kept to swell and bluster, and to terrify the foolish dreamer who believes in them. ³He has been gently wakened from his dream by understanding what he thought he saw was never there. ⁴And now he cannot feel that all escape has been denied to him.

Forgiveness must be practiced, for the world cannot perceive its meaning, nor provide a guide to teach you its beneficence.

Today we practice true forgiveness, that the time of joining be no more delayed. ²For we would meet with our reality in freedom and in peace. ³Our practicing becomes the footsteps lighting up the way for all our brothers, who will follow us to the reality we share with them. (A Course in Miracles, W-134.10:2–11:4;13:1;14:1-3. See also ACIM Lesson 134 Insights.)

Judgment is a self-deception. We only judge what we perceive to be outside of us. Yet our true Self, eternally united with God, sees nothing separate from Itself. Forgiveness undoes the deception that believes separation is possible, that there can be anything outside of What we are in truth. But we have convinced ourselves that an outside world is real. As long as we believe this, true forgiveness is needed.

For this God gave us His Teacher to guide us in the way of Love’s oneness, to recognize that all external appearances are false. With His help, we learn to recognize illusions and freely let them go. No one wants to keep what he recognizes is not real.

Today we call upon the Holy Spirit to teach us true forgiveness, for we want to remember the joy and peace that are our natural state as Love’s extension.

How to Use Our Projections to Heal Our Minds

Let us this day accept forgiveness as our only function. ²Why should we attack our minds, and give them images of pain? ³Why should we teach [our minds] they are powerless, when God holds out His power and His Love, and bids them take what is already theirs? ⁴The mind that is made willing to accept God’s gifts has been restored to spirit, and extends [spirit’s] freedom and its joy, as is the Will of God united with its own. ⁵The Self which God created cannot sin, and therefore cannot suffer. ⁶Let us choose today that [this Self] be our Identity, and thus escape forever from all things the dream of fear appears to offer us.

Father, Your Son can not be hurt. ²And if we think we suffer, we but fail to know our one Identity we share with You. ³We would return to It today, to be made free forever from all our mistakes, and to be saved from what we thought we were. (A Course in Miracles, W-330.1-2. See also ACIM Lesson 330 Insights.)

The dream of the world is the outward picture of the ego’s grievance against God. God could not grant the ego’s wish for specialness which would require separation. Separation is impossible in the oneness of God’s Love. The ego’s judgments appear to be about the world outside our mind. It does not want us to know that those external appearances are the its own projections.

We can learn to use our perceptions in the world as paths to forgiveness by being willing to accept that they reflect beliefs we hold in our mind. Just as we can only see our face when it is reflected in a mirror, we can only see our beliefs reflected back to us by our perceptions.

The ego uses perceptions to project guilt and fear. The Holy Spirit transforms our perceptions to heal our unforgiveness. The ego offers only continuation of the hell of separation from Love. The Holy Spirit offers return to the joy and peace of our Home in the Heaven of God’s Love.

Let’s join with each other by dedicating today to following the Holy Spirit’s lead.

Accepting Christ as Our True Self

My eyes, my tongue, my hands, my feet today have but one purpose; to be given Christ to use to bless the world with miracles.

Father, I give all that is mine today to Christ, to use in any way that best will serve the purpose that I share with Him. ²Nothing is mine alone, for He and I have joined in purpose. ³Thus has learning come almost to its appointed end. ⁴A while I work with Him to serve His purpose. ⁵Then I lose myself in my Identity, and recognize that Christ is but my Self. (A Course in Miracles, W-353. See also ACIM Lesson 353 Insights.)

When we let go of our imagined limited identity with a body, we make way to accept our unlimited true Identity as one with God. This Identity is the Christ Whose vision sees past illusions to the presence of Love everywhere. We give up nothing to welcome All that is real.

We cannot serve two masters. As long as we want the “benefits” of separation—the specialness of individuality, private thoughts and personal possessions—we cannot know the joy our true Identity has in Its unity with Love.

Today we welcome Christ, our true Identity, by choosing Love as our Guide for all our thoughts and actions. It’s a choice for happiness.

Our Journey Without Distance

²No one created by God can find joy in anything except the eternal; not because he is deprived of anything else, but because nothing else is worthy of him.

There is no question but one you should ever ask of yourself;—“Do I want to know my Father’s Will for me?” …⁴Our function is to work together, because apart from each other we cannot function at all. ⁵The whole power of God’s Son lies in all of us, but not in any of us alone.

³We cannot be separated. ⁴Whom God has joined cannot be separated, and God has joined all His Sons with Himself. ⁵Can you be separated from your life and your being? ⁶The journey to God is merely the reawakening of the knowledge of where you are always, and what you are forever. ⁷It is a journey without distance to a goal that has never changed. ⁸Truth can only be experienced. ⁹It cannot be described and it cannot be explained. ¹⁰I can make you aware of the conditions of truth, but the experience is of God. ¹¹Together we can meet its conditions, but truth will dawn upon you of itself. (A Course in Miracles, T-8.VI.3:2;8:1,4-5;9:3-11. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

We cannot be alone. But we can dream that we are alone and on our own. The dream is caused by our belief and wish for separation. This wish needs to be undone for us to awaken to our Reality as one with every brother and God in His Love. Our function while we believe we are in this world is to let go of the beliefs that stand as a barrier against the awareness of Love’s presence.

The way to undo the barriers to Love is through true forgiveness. We cannot forgive on our own alone because we are not alone in truth. We need the help of the Holy Spirit Who knows the truth and can see our mistaken beliefs but not believe them.

Our role in forgiveness is to diligently turn over every perception that disturbs our peace of mind. The Holy Spirit knows what to do with our misperceptions. He offers us Christ’s vision to bring us true perception that sees past our false beliefs to the presence of Love in everyone and everywhere.

Today we practice bringing our perceptions to the Holy Spirit with willingness to receive the Holy Spirit’s replacement to show us our Reality in Love’s oneness.

Awakening to Our Life in Love

Father, my freedom is in You alone.

I did not understand what made me free, nor what my freedom is, nor where to look to find it. ²Father, I have searched in vain until I heard Your Voice directing me. ³Now I would guide myself no more. ⁴For I have neither made nor understood the way to find my freedom. ⁵But I trust in You. ⁶You Who endowed me with my freedom as Your holy Son will not be lost to me. ⁷Your Voice directs me, and the way to You is opening and clear to me at last. ⁸Father, my freedom is in You alone. ⁹Father, it is my will that I return.

Today we answer for the world, which will be freed along with us. ²How glad are we to find our freedom through the certain way our Father has established. ³And how sure is all the world’s salvation, when we learn our freedom can be found in God alone.” (A Course in Miracles, W-321.1:1–2:3. See also ACIM Lesson 321 Insights.)

The ego is the attempt to be independent of God. But this is like trying to run an electric appliance without plugging it into a source of electricity. There is no life independent of God because He is the source of all Life. Trying to be independent of the source of all Life is the wish for death, which could not occur except in a dream.

We imprison ourselves by accepting the ego’s dream of separation. Fortunately there is a way to wake up. God gave us His Voice, which calls to us in every moment. It is a call to return to Life, to the joy and peace of unity with our Creator. His Voice offers us help to awaken from the dream of misperceptions and see the Love that never left. We choose to listen to God’s Voice today, for we would be free of the ego’s limitations.

Removing Our Limits on Love

I want the peace of God.

To say these words is nothing. ²But to mean these words is everything. ³If you could but mean them for just an instant, there would be no further sorrow possible for you in any form; in any place or time. ⁴Heaven would be completely given back to full awareness, memory of God entirely restored, the resurrection of all creation fully recognized.

No one can mean these words and not be healed. ²He cannot play with dreams, nor think he is himself a dream. ³He cannot make a hell and think it real. ⁴He wants the peace of God, and it is given him. ⁵For that is all he wants, and that is all he will receive.

To mean you want the peace of God is to renounce all dreams.

The mind which means that all it wants is peace must join with other minds, for that is how peace is obtained. ²And when the wish for peace is genuine, the means for finding it is given, in a form each mind that seeks for it in honesty can understand. (A Course in Miracles, W-185.1:1–2:5;5:1;6:1-2. See also ACIM Lesson 185 Insights.)

The things we want in the world—safety, possessions, status, relationships—are the ego’s substitutes for the peace of God. Everyone wants to be happy. But what the ego offers are illusions and only seem to offer temporary happiness or security. No illusion lasts forever.

But the reality of Love is eternal. Love is innately joyous, for there is no greater happiness than to extend the Love God has given us. Extending Love is the only way to accept It. By Its nature, Love extends and cannot be known if we try to limit it, to be selective of who we would offer Love.

The ego is selective in what it gives, for it judges the worthiness of all things. God knows not of judgment or limitation. He deemed His Son worthy by giving Him all of His Love without limit. Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us remove the limits we have attempted to impose on Love. This is how we accept God’s gift of all of His peace and joy.
