Opening to Our True Self in God’s Love

Let all things be exactly as they are.

Let me not be Your critic, Lord, today, and judge against You. ²Let me not attempt to interfere with Your creation, and distort it into sickly forms. ³Let me be willing to withdraw my wishes from its unity, and thus to let [creation] be as You created it. ⁴For thus will I be able, too, to recognize my Self as You created me. ⁵In love was I created, and in love will I remain forever. ⁶What can frighten me, when I let all things be exactly as they are?

Let not our sight be blasphemous today, nor let our ears attend to lying tongues. ²Only reality is free of pain. ³Only reality is free of loss. ⁴Only reality is wholly safe. ⁵And it is only this we seek today. (A Course in Miracles, W-268. See also ACIM Lesson 268 Insights.)

God’s Creation extends the Love He is. Only Love creates, and only like Itself.

When we believe separate bodies and separate things are real, we deny God’s Creation. The body is not Love because it is a limited form that cannot exist in the oneness of Love. Thus to identify with a body is to be blasphemous against God.

This mistaken identification blinds us to our true Self. Yet the Self God created as His Son remains unchanged. We seem to live in a world of form which has no effect whatsoever to our real Life we live in God. But our engagement in this dream prevents us from knowing the joy and peace that come with co-creating in Love with God.

We can awaken from this dream by welcoming the Holy Spirit’s vision. Today we seek the Holy Spirit’s interpretation of all our perceptions. With His reinterpretation, our minds are opened to know the Self God created as His Son.

Welcoming Our Mighty Companion

Into His Presence would I enter now.

“his is a day of silence and of trust. ²It is a special time of promise in your calendar of days. ³It is a time Heaven has set apart to shine upon, and cast a timeless light upon this day, when echoes of eternity are heard. ⁴This day is holy, for it ushers in a new experience; a different kind of feeling and awareness. ⁵You have spent long days and nights in celebrating death. ⁶Today you learn to feel the joy of life.

Your body will be sanctified today, its only purpose being now to bring the vision of what you experience this day to light the world. ²We cannot give experience like this directly. ³Yet it leaves a vision in our eyes which we can offer everyone, that he may come the sooner to the same experience in which the world is quietly forgot, and Heaven is remembered for a while.

As this experience increases and all goals but this become of little worth, the world to which you will return becomes a little closer to the end of time; a little more like Heaven in its ways; a little nearer its deliverance. ²And you who bring it light will come to see the light more sure; the vision more distinct.

…the Holy One, the Giver of the happy dreams of life, Translator of perception into truth, the holy Guide to Heaven given you, has dreamed for you this journey which you make and start today, with the experience this day holds out to you to be your own.

We do not have to continue our lonely journey in a dream where we feel isolated and without a love that we search for unceasingly. This is not our home. It is not what God wills for us. God wills that we remain eternally safe in His Love, fulfilled by giving It as It was given us. We seem to have lost our way, but God has given us His Comforter and Teacher to lead us out of our misguided dream. His Comforter is with us always, but we must welcome Him to know His Presence.

Today we affirm that we want Love to guide our ways. We want to join in the eternal extension of Love. We want the vision that shows us Love’s Presence in everyone, everywhere. This is a journey of return to joy. It leads to our awakening to the Will we share with God. We welcome His Comforter as our mighty Companion throughout this day.

Reclaiming Our True Identity

I am as God created me.

Today we continue with the one idea which brings complete salvation; the one statement which makes all forms of temptation powerless; the one thought which renders the ego silent and entirely undone. ²You are as God created you. ³The sounds of this world are still, the sights of this world disappear, and all the thoughts that this world ever held are wiped away forever by this one idea. ⁴Here is salvation accomplished. ⁵Here is sanity restored.

True light is strength, and strength is sinlessness. ²If you remain as God created you, you must be strong and light must be in you. ³He Who ensured your sinlessness must be the guarantee of strength and light as well. ⁴You are as God created you.

³I am as God created me.
⁴I am His Son eternally.

⁵…the Son of God in you… is the Self that never sinned [separated], nor made an image to replace reality. ⁷This is the Self that never left Its home in God to walk the world uncertainly. ⁸This is the Self that knows no fear, nor could conceive of loss or suffering or death.

…be sure to respond to anyone who seems to irritate you with these words:

⁶You are as God created you.

When we choose to identify with the body, we choose a fake identity. We are trying to hide our real Identity beneath an image that limits and distorts the truth of What we are. We have so thoroughly convinced ourselves that we are this alias that we do not question its reality. We walk about in a world that seems hazardous to our existence. We need to be constantly alert to defend against outside forces that can harm us and even kill us. There is no peace in this seeming existence. But it is all false.

When we repeat today’s idea, we remind ourselves of our true Identity. Our true Identity is secure in the mind of God, held forever in His changelessness. The memory of our true Identity is always with us. It calls to us, leading us to search for what seems to be missing in our life. It is not missing. It is only hidden behind a false façade.

As we awaken to the fact that we are as God created us, the façade is dispelled and the Light of Love we are radiates throughout all eternity.

The Lesson That Transforms Our World

⁶You who have taught yourself the Son of God is guilty, say not that you cannot learn the simple things salvation teaches you!

The lessons to be learned are only two. ²Each has its outcome in a different world. ³And each world follows surely from its source. ⁴The certain outcome of the [ego’s] lesson that God’s Son is guilty is the world you see. ⁵It is a world of terror and despair. ⁶Nor is there hope of happiness in it. ⁷There is no plan for safety you can make that ever will succeed. ⁸There is no joy that you can seek for here and hope to find. ⁹Yet this is not the only outcome which your learning can produce. ¹⁰However much you may have overlearned your chosen task, the lesson that reflects the Love of God is stronger still. ¹¹And you will learn God’s Son is innocent, and see another world.

The outcome of the lesson that God’s Son is guiltless is a world in which there is no fear, and everything is lit with hope and sparkles with a gentle friendliness. ²Nothing but calls to you in soft appeal to be your friend, and let it join with you. ³And never does a call remain unheard, misunderstood, nor left unanswered in the selfsame tongue in which the call was made. ⁴And you will understand it was this call that everyone and everything within the world has always made, but you had not perceived it as it was. ⁵And now you see you were mistaken. ⁶You had been deceived by forms the call [for Love] was hidden in. ⁷And so you did not hear it, and had lost a friend who always wanted to be part of you. ⁸The soft eternal calling of each part of God’s creation to the whole is heard throughout the world this second lesson brings. Think what a loving world we would experience if we recognized every fearful or guilty thought as a call for Love. Our true Nature would automatically respond with Love. An appearance of attack would be transformed with a joyous, loving response. Joy always comes with Love.

We have taught ourselves to give our own meaning to forms in the world. We learned this lesson so thoroughly that we cannot see the forms have no meaning of their own. The ego’s meaning given to forms overshadows the ever-present Light of Love.

The fact that this world and all its forms seems so real confirms that we have a highly developed learning skill. Thankfully this skill can be redirected to learn to undo the false meanings we have given to the world. We can learn to see the forms in the world as calls for Love. This lesson opens our days to joy, peace and love.

Shall we join with each other in the practice of learning the Holy Spirit’s lessons to recognize calls for Love? In this joining we experience the real world where guilt and fear are forgiven and Love guides us moment by moment.

Returning to the Joy of Loving

Choosing through the Holy Spirit will lead you to the Kingdom. ²You create by your true being, but what you are you must learn to remember. …⁴If you allow yourself to have in your mind only what God put there, you are acknowledging your mind as God created it. ⁵Therefore, you are accepting it as it is.

Truth is without illusions and therefore within the Kingdom. ²Everything outside the Kingdom is illusion. ³When you threw truth away you saw yourself as if you were without it. ⁴By making another kingdom that you valued, you did not keep only the Kingdom of God in your mind, and thus placed part of your mind outside it. ⁵What you made has imprisoned your will, and given you a sick mind that must be healed. ⁶Your vigilance against this sickness is the way to heal it. ⁷Once your mind is healed it radiates health, and thereby teaches healing.

²The Holy Spirit will enable you to take this step, if you follow Him. ³Your vigilance is the sign that you want Him to guide you. ⁴Vigilance does require effort, but only until you learn that effort itself is unnecessary. Only a sick mind can seem to experience pain, fear, guilt, depression and anger. Health is inner peace because there is no conflict in a healed mind. It radiates the oneness of God’s Love, unrestricted and carrying with it the power of God. This is the state of our true Self, which continues extending Love unabated no matter how engaged we are with the ego’s sick denial of Love.

With careful vigilance we have taught ourselves to believe that Love is unreal and fear and guilt are our only reality. Our effort to teach ourselves this was justified by our desire for specialness and separation. We have paid a steep price for learning this lesson.

We can undo this mistake by redirecting our vigilance. Now is the time to be vigilant to listen to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. His lessons will teach us that what we have taught ourselves is not true. We remain as God created us. His peace is still ours. His Love still blesses us and inspires us to join in Love with all our brothers. The need to defend is replaced by the joy of loving. Today we join with our brothers to be vigilant for God and His Kingdom of Love.

The Mission of Forgiveness

My heart is beating in the peace of God.

Surrounding me is all the life that God created in His Love. ²It calls to me in every heartbeat and in every breath; in every action and in every thought. ³Peace fills my heart, and floods my body with the purpose of forgiveness. ⁴Now my mind is healed, and all I need to save the world is given me. ⁵Each heartbeat brings me peace; each breath infuses me with strength. ⁶I am a messenger of God, directed by His Voice, sustained by Him in love, and held forever quiet and at peace within His loving Arms. ⁷Each heartbeat calls His Name, and every one is answered by His Voice, assuring me I am at home in Him.

Let me attend Your Answer, not my own. ²Father, my heart is beating in the peace the Heart of Love created. ³It is there and only there that I can be at home. (A Course in Miracles, W-267.1:1–2:3. See also ACIM Lesson 267 Insights.)

God has deemed His Son is worthy of all His Love. His gift keeps His Son forever united with Him, for Love has no limits.

Because of our belief that separation (sin) is real, we are unaware of God’s Love. We cannot see the innocence of Love in our brothers while we believe separation is real. To serve as a messenger of God’s Love in the world, we must forgive the mistaken belief in separation.

As we accept this mission, the Holy Spirit guides us in the way of Love. He offers us the vision that shows us the presence of Love around us everywhere and in everyone. This is the mission that frees us from fear and guilt. It awakens us to the peace we share in the Heart of God. This is how we remember we are in Heaven now.

The Answer That Brings Happiness

A teacher of God is anyone who chooses to be one. ²His qualifications consist solely in this; somehow, somewhere he has made a deliberate choice in which he did not see his interests as apart from someone else’s. ³Once he has done that, his road is established and his direction is sure. ⁴A light has entered the darkness. ⁵It may be a single light, but that is enough. ⁶He has entered an agreement with God even if he does not yet believe in Him. ⁷He has become a bringer of salvation. ⁸He has become a teacher of God.

⁹Everyone will answer in the end, but the end can be a long, long way off. ¹⁰It is because of this that the plan of the teachers was established. ¹¹Their function is to save time. ¹²Each one begins as a single light, but with the Call at its center it is a light that cannot be limited. ¹³And each one saves a thousand years of time as the world judges it.

There is a course for every teacher of God. ²The form of the course varies greatly. ³So do the particular teaching aids involved. ⁴But the content of the course never changes. ⁵Its central theme is always, “God’s Son is guiltless, and in his innocence is his salvation.” ⁶It can be taught by actions or thoughts; in words or soundlessly; in any language or in no language; in any place or time or manner. ⁷It does not matter who the teacher was before he heard the Call. ⁸He has become a savior by his answering. ⁹He has seen someone else as himself. ¹⁰He has therefore found his own salvation and the salvation of the world. ¹¹In his rebirth is the world reborn. God is always calling for teachers. In every moment we choose whether to answer His Call. Do we want to see our brother as the Love he is or do we want to see him as separate, different and capable of harm? To answer His Call, we must be willing to see the innocence of Love in our brother. We must be willing to see that his true desire is the same as ours—to be and give only Love. When we join in that desire, we answer God’s Call. Love becomes the Guide we follow with our thoughts, words and deeds.

Shall we answer the Call to be a teacher of God today? Do we want to be happy? The answer to these questions is the same.
