Seeing Love’s Reflection in the World

What the body’s eyes behold is only conflict. Look not to them for peace and understanding. M-8.2. Illusions are always illusions of differences.

When he realizes they are all illusions they will disappear.

The body’s eyes will continue to see differences. But the mind that has let itself be healed will no longer acknowledge them. There will be those who seem to be “sicker” than others, and the body’s eyes will report their changed appearances as before. But the healed mind will put them all in one category; they are unreal. This is the gift of its Teacher; the understanding that only two categories are meaningful in sorting out the messages the mind receives from what appears to be the outside world. And of these two, but one is real. Just as reality is wholly real, apart from size and shape and time and place–for differences cannot exist within it–so too are illusions without distinctions. The one answer to sickness of any kind is healing. The one answer to all illusions is truth. (A Course in Miracles, M-8.1:6-2:1;5:7;6)

While we seem to be in the world seeing it through the body’s eyes, it is not useful to deny what the body’s eyes see. But as we let our mind be healed with Christ’s vision, we no longer give credence to what the body’s eyes see. The truth in us takes precedence. Love, in Its oneness, sees only Itself.

Each time we forgive the ego’s judgment of an appearance, we clear the way for Christ’s vision to show us the truth. The veil of unforgiveness becomes less dense and the Light of Love is reflected back to us.

Today we welcome healing in our mind by choosing Christ’s vision instead of the ego’s misperceptions. It is a choice between happiness and depression, peace and conflict, Love and fear. Let us join together in Love to see Love’s reflection in the world.

Joining with Our Brothers in Love

All gifts I give my brothers are my own.

As every gift my brothers give is mine, so every gift I give belongs to me. Each one allows a past mistake to go, and leave no shadow on the holy mind my Father loves. His grace is given me in every gift a brother has received throughout all time, and past all time as well. My treasure house is full, and angels watch its open doors that not one gift is lost, and only more are added. Let me come to where my treasures are, and enter in where I am truly welcome and at home, among the gifts that God has given me.

Father, I would accept Your gifts today. I do not recognize them. Yet I trust that You Who gave them will provide the means by which I can behold them, see their worth, and cherish only them as what I want. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 316, W-pII.316. See also ACIM Lesson 316 Insights.)

As long as we identify with the ego and its image of a body, we will not recognize the Love God has given us. The ego has denied Love in its wish for specialness. Through the body the ego seeks to make a dream of separation seem real. The way to release ourselves from the denial of Love is through forgiveness. Within the dream we open the door to Love’s extension by forgiving the limitations the ego imposes on it.

When we let the Holy Spirit show us the truth of Love beyond the appearance of separation, the Love we are joins with the Love that is our brother. Both our brother and ourselves are blessed. This is forgiveness.

This forgiveness demonstrates that we already have God’s gift of Love. It peels away the veil that has hidden His Love from us. The joining in Love with our brother demonstrates that we have accepted God’s Love. When forgiveness is complete, we have let go of the veil we placed between our Self and every brother. We join together and remember our Home in Heaven.

Daily Opportunities to Find Love

Forgiveness offers everything I want.

God’s plan for your salvation cannot change, nor can it fail. Be thankful it remains exactly as He planned it. Changelessly it stands before you like an open door, with warmth and welcome calling from beyond the doorway, bidding you to enter in and make yourself at home, where you belong.

Here is the answer! Would you stand outside while all of Heaven waits for you within? Forgive and be forgiven. As you give you will receive. There is no plan but this for the salvation of the Son of God. Let us today rejoice that this is so, for here we have an answer, clear and plain, beyond deceit in its simplicity. All the complexities the world has spun of fragile cobwebs dis­appear before the power and the majesty of this extremely simple statement of the truth [—Forgiveness offers everything I want]. As long as we identify with the body, we have daily opportunities to practice forgiveness. The body’s eyes see only projections of the belief in separation, the core need of all forgiveness. The appearances in the world of loss, lack, harm and death are all ego representations of separation.

The daily practice of accepting the Holy Spirit’s help to see every appearance as He sees it is a step toward forgiving the core error of believing separation is real. Some appearances seem to be especially egregious and harder to forgive. But this seeming difficulty comes only because we find some value in keeping the guilt, the judgment. We are not yet willing to accept the innocence of the Love that is our true Identity.

The more we practice forgiveness, the less we hang on to our grievances. Situations that may have taken time to forgive are more quickly recognized as minor and easily dismissed. The Holy Spirit’s loving vision sees past the meaningless knowing it has no effect on the changeless reality of Love. With his help, we more quickly recognize appearances of harm as unreal and dismiss them by offering Love from our true Self. Forgiveness offers the Love we have been seeking.

Claiming Our Shared Purpose as God’s Son

In me salvation’s means and end are one.

In me, God’s holy Son, are reconciled all parts of Heaven’s plan to save the world. What could conflict, when all the parts [of Heaven’s plan] have but one purpose and one aim? How could there be a single part that stands alone, or one of more or less importance than the rest? I am the means by which God’s Son is saved, because sal­vation’s purpose is to find the sinlessness that God has placed in me. I was created as the thing I seek. I am the goal the world is searching for. I am God’s Son, His one eternal Love. I am salva­tion’s means and end as well.

Let me today, my Father, take the role You offer me in Your request that I accept Atonement for myself. For thus does what is thereby rec­onciled in me become as surely reconciled to You. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 318, W-pII.318. See also ACIM Lesson 318 Insights.)

We are all God’s one Son. But the world we see denies our true Self, God’s Son. The single purpose we all share in Heaven’s plan is to accept the truth that we are His Son. As God’s Son, we remain eternally united with our Father. God’s only purpose for His Son is that he remain eternally united with Himself.

Accepting this shared purpose reveals our innocence and awakens us to our Home in Heaven. In truth, we never left. We have only accepted a false idea of being separate and believed it was true. The effect of this belief is the experience of being a body in a world of separate images. These images seem to conflict, attack each other and justify fear and guilt. They exclude the unified presence of Love. Peace and lasting happiness are impossible in this imagined world, for Love’s oneness is denied.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us remember that we are God’s Son and look upon everything with this remembrance. In this state of mind, we will experience God’s joy and peace. It’s worth the practice.

Letting Love’s Light Brighten Our World

Neutral thoughts are impossible because all thoughts have power. They will either make a false world or lead me to the real one. But thoughts cannot be without effects. As the world I see arises from my thinking errors, so will the real world rise before my eyes as I let my errors be corrected. My thoughts cannot be neither true nor false. They must be one or the other. What I see shows me which they are.

I would look upon the witnesses that show me the think­ing of the world has been changed. I would behold the proof that what has been done through me has enabled love to replace fear, laughter to replace tears, and abundance to replace loss. I would look upon the real world, and let it teach me that my will and the Will of God are one. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 54, W-pI.54.1:2-8;5:3-5. See also ACIM Lesson 54 Insights.)

We cannot correct our errors in thought using the thought system that made the errors. We need to let the errors be corrected for us by accepting the Holy Spirit’s help. His Thoughts are shared with God and thus correct the faulty thought system of the ego. Where the ego projects images of separation, the Holy Spirit overlooks them, seeing only the unity of Love.

We perceive the ego’s projections only because we believe they offer something of value to us e.g. specialness, something we can keep for ourselves alone. But because this denies the oneness of Love, our true Self, the forms of specialness never satisfy. While we subscribe to the ego thought system, we remain on a fruitless search for Love where it cannot be found.

But when we let the Holy Spirit guide our thoughts, we find that Love is everywhere, in everything. The ego’s projections fade as we withdraw the value we have given them. The Light of Love brightens our world with peace and joy as we accept Holy Spirit’s help.

The Choice Between Heaven and Hell

Truth answers every call we make to God, Responding first with miracles, and then Returning unto us to be itself.

Forgiveness, truth’s reflection, tells me how to offer miracles, and thus escape the prison house in which I think I live. Your holy Son is pointed out to me, first in my brother; then in me. Your Voice instructs me patiently to hear Your Word, and give as I receive. And as I look upon Your Son today, I hear Your Voice instructing me to find the way to You, as You appointed that the way shall be:

Behold his sinlessness, and be you healed. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 357, W-pII.357. See also ACIM Lesson 357 Insights.)

Our perception of every brother is a reflection of what we believe about ourself. This reflection can be a confirmation of our belief in separation and lovelessness. Or, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, it can be used as an opportunity to forgive our misperception of a brother as separate. As we forgive our misperception, our brother is revealed as Love’s innocence. It confirms the truth of our own innocence.

In every moment we choose between these two options. The first option is the choice to remain in the hell of lovelessness. The second choice is the path to Heaven, the remembrance of changeless, eternal Love. We make the second choice in any moment by welcoming the lessons of our inner Teacher which correct our misperceptions with Christ’s vision.

With the choice to accept Christ’s vision, today will be a joyful and peaceful day.

Changing How We Perceive the World

Projection makes perception. The world you see is what you gave it, nothing more than that. But though it is no more than that, it is not less. Therefore, to you it is important. It is the witness to your state of mind, the outside picture of an inward condition. As a man thinketh, so does he perceive. Therefore, seek not to change the world, but choose to change your mind about the world. Perception is a result and not a cause. And that is why order of difficulty in miracles is meaningless. Everything looked upon with vision is healed and holy. Nothing perceived without it means anything. And where there is no meaning, there is chaos.

The world you see but shows you how much joy you have allowed yourself to see in you, and to accept as yours. And, if this is its meaning, then the power to give it joy must lie within you. (A Course in Miracles, T-21.in.1;2:7-8. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

The ego would like us to believe that the world we see is happening to us, that we have nothing to do with what we believe we are seeing. As long as we adhere to the ego’s , we seem to be trapped in the world of fear and guilt, victimhood and death. But there is another way of looking at the world.

Because everything we perceive is a reflection, it is a mirror of what we believe we are. Thus what we see is an opportunity to learn to distinguish between mistaken beliefs and the truth of Love if we let the Holy Spirit help us. We can see the world with true perception if we pay attention to Christ’s vision within our mind.

With Christ’s vision, the meaning of appearances within the world is transformed. Appearances of anger, attack, fear and guilt are transformed into calls for Love. With this transformation, the Love we are automatically answers with Love. The appearances of differences and separation diminish in their seeming importance as the call of Love to join with Love steps forth.

In every moment we choose between which world we want to perceive. When we choose to let the Holy Spirit guide our perceptions, we see a world with increasing happiness and peace. Today we call upon the Holy Spirit with willingness to accept His loving lessons.
