Pausing for Peace Heals Our Mind

You who were created by Love like Itself can hold no griev­ances and know your Self. To hold a grievance is to forget who you are. To hold a grievance is to see yourself as a body. To hold a grievance is to let the ego rule your mind and to condemn the body to death. Perhaps you do not yet fully realize just what holding grievances does to your mind. It seems to split you off from your Source and make you unlike Him. It makes you believe that He is like what you think you have become, for no one can conceive of his Creator as unlike himself.

Shut off from your Self, which remains aware of Its likeness to Its Creator, your Self seems to sleep, while the part of your mind that weaves illusions in its sleep appears to be awake. Can all this arise from holding grievances? Oh, yes! For he who holds grievances denies he was created by Love, and his Creator has become fearful to him in his dream of hate. Who can dream of hatred and not fear God?

It is as sure that those who hold grievances will suffer guilt, as it is certain that those who forgive will find peace. It is as sure that those who hold grievances will forget who they are, as it is certain that those who forgive will remember. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 68, W-pI.68.1-2;3:2-3. The ego, the wish for specialness, is a grievance against God. The dream it spawns is the projection of that grievance. When we accept the dream of separation as real, we are joining with the ego’s grievance against God. The cost of this joining is guilt for having denied God and our Self. With it comes fear because the ego projects on God its own intension for retribution for the perceived attack. As long as we accept the ego as our identity, we are imprisoned in the cycle of grievances, guilt and fear and attack.

This is why we need to forgive our grievances. Forgiveness opens the door in our mind to accept the Love of our true Self. Every judgment is an expression of the ego’s core grievance against God. Feelings of unhappiness, stress, guilt and fear, even the slightest disturbance of our peace, all are signs that we have chosen the ego’s grievance against God as our identity.

We undo grievances each time we bring our fear-based thoughts to the Holy Spirit for His help to heal our minds. When we pause for peace, we welcome His help and make way for the return of our eternal unity in God’s Love.

Today we dedicate to pausing for peace in our mind and welcome the Loving correction of our misperceptions. It is a journey we take to letting go of all our grievances and accepting our Identity as God’s Son.

Being a Messenger of Love

Let this day be a day of stillness and of quiet listening. Your Father wills you hear His Word today. He calls to you from deep within your mind where He abides. Hear Him today. No peace is possible until His Word is heard around the world; until your mind, in quiet listening, accepts the message that the world must hear to usher in the quiet time of peace.

This world will change through you. No other means can save it, for God’s plan is simply this: The Son of God is free to save himself, given the Word of God [the Holy Spirit] to be his Guide, forever in his mind and at his side to lead him surely to his Father’s house by his own will, forever free as God’s. He is not led by force, but only love. He is not judged, but only sanctified.

In stillness we will hear God’s Voice today without intrusion of our petty thoughts, without our personal desires, and without all judgment of His holy Word. We will not judge ourselves today, for what we are can not be judged. We stand apart from all the judgments which the world has laid upon the Son of God. It knows him not. While we identify with the ego’s belief in separation, we are constantly tempted to react to the appearances of the world. We react to them because we believe they are real. But the Course is teaching us that this world is nothing more than a dream.

We have Help to wake up from this dream of guilt, fear and death. God gave us His Word, the Holy Spirit, in our mind to teach us to discern between illusion and Reality, separation and Love’s oneness. The practice of pausing before reacting to connect with the center of peace within interrupts the chain that continues the ego’s reign.

We are not the ego. Our true Identity is the Love of God. Interrupting the chain of reactions gives us an opportunity to let the Holy Spirit replace our fearful perceptions with Christ’s vision. It enables us to see past the images of separation to the unifying Presence of Love. From this state of mind, we serve as messengers of His Word to bring peace and healing to the world.

Today let’s join together to be messengers of Love in the world.

Christ’s Vision Sees the Love We Are

My present happiness is all I see.

Unless I look upon what is not there, my present happiness is all I see. Eyes that begin to open see at last. And I would have Christ’s vision come to me this very day. What I perceive with­out God’s Own Correction for the sight I made is frightening and painful to behold. Yet I would not allow my mind to be deceived by the belief the dream I made is real an instant longer. This the day I seek my present happiness, and look on nothing else except the thing I seek.

With this resolve I come to You, and ask Your strength to hold me up today, while I but seek to do Your Will. You cannot fail to hear me, Father. What I ask have You already given me. The body’s eyes are blind to the truth. All they are capable of seeing are separate forms, each with its own limits. But Love is one and cannot be limited. God has given us Christ’s vision in our minds to correct the false vision the ego offer through the body. Christ’s vision is always available to us, but we must give it priority over what the body’s eyes show us.

When we give this Vision priority, we see the eternal presence of Love beyond the limitations of the images of the world. The Love we see with Christ’s vision brings with It the happiness that is God’s Will for us, His Son. It is only this happiness that will satisfy us because it comes with the acceptance of our true Self God created as His Son. This Self is Love and nothing else, one with God’s Love. Love is joy. Love is peace that cannot be disturbed. Love is one and sees only Itself.

Today we remind ourselves that we are God’s Son, one with Him, eternally and without limit. We are Love and nothing else. We choose Christ’s vision that we may see the Love we are everywhere.

Accepting God’s Gift of Heaven

In God’s Own justice does He recognize all you deserve, but understands as well that you cannot accept it for yourself. It is [the Holy Spirit’s] special function to hold out to you the gifts the innocent deserve. And every one that you accept brings joy to Him as well as you. He knows that Heaven is richer made by each [gift] you accept.

You have the right to all the universe; to perfect peace, complete deliverance from all effects of sin, and to the life eternal, joyous and complete in every way, as God appointed for His holy Son. This is the only justice Heaven knows, and all the Holy Spirit brings to earth. Your special function shows you nothing else but perfect justice can prevail for you. And you are safe from vengeance in all forms. The world deceives, but it cannot replace God’s justice with a version of its own. For only love is just, and can perceive what justice must accord the Son of God. Let love decide, and never fear that you, in your unfairness, will deprive yourself of what God’s justice has allotted you. (A Course in Miracles, T-25.VIII.9:5-8;14. The Holy Spirit is in our mind, ready to give us God’s gifts. The gifts He gave are ours already, never to be withdrawn nor limited. The gifts of Heaven — peace, happiness, guiltlessness and Life eternal — are already bestowed upon our True Self, God’s Son.

God has judged us worthy of these gifts as His one Son. Why wait for Heaven? It is our Home now. We need only be willing to accept the gifts which are already ours. The world of conflict, loss, guilt and fear fade away when we accept God’s gifts.

Each time we pause and step back from our perceptions of the world and let the Holy Spirit show us how Love perceives it, we are accepting God’s gift. Today we practice choosing Love as our Guide, for we want to remember Heaven.

Letting Love Direct Our Thoughts and Actions

What I see is the projection of my own errors of thought [judgments]. I do not understand what I see because it is not understandable. There is no sense in trying to understand it. But there is every reason to let it go, and make room for what can be seen and understood and loved. I can exchange what I see now for this merely by being willing to do so. Is not this a better choice than the one I made before?

The thoughts of which I am aware do not mean anything be­cause I am trying to think without God. What I call “my” thoughts are not my real thoughts. My real thoughts are the thoughts I think with God. I am not aware of them because I have made my thoughts to take their place. I am willing to rec­ognize that my thoughts do not mean anything, and to let them go. I choose to have them be replaced by what they were in­tended to replace. My thoughts are meaningless, but all creation lies in the thoughts I think with God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 51, W-pI.51.3:2-8;3:2-8. See also ACIM Lesson 51 Insights.)

Because God is Love, our real thoughts are thoughts of Love. These loving thoughts are all inclusive because Love makes no exceptions. God’s Love is given without condition or limit.

In the world it seems that we have different levels of love. Some love is reserved for certain special people. Other love is given with expectations of something of value to be returned, even if it’s only an expression of thanks.

This love is based on judging whether the focus of this love is worthy of it. Judgments can only be made if there is a belief that what is being judged is separate from the perceiver. To perceive the other as separate, we must first believe that we are separate. This belief is an attack on the oneness of God’s Love. We need to let go of this belief because it is costing us the awareness of God’s gift of Love and the peace and joy that come with it.

Today we practice pausing to remember Love and let Love direct our thoughts, our words and actions. By welcoming the loving thoughts we think with God, we remember Love we are.

The Journey of Awakening to Our True Self

[“Love created me like itself”] is a complete and accurate statement of what you are. This is why you are the light of the world. This is why God appointed you as the world’s savior. This is why the Son of God looks to you for his salvation. He is saved by what you are.”

…think about your reality and its wholly unchanged and unchangeable nature. …[examples]:

Holiness created me holy.
Kindness created me kind.
Helpfulness created me helpful.
Perfection created me perfect.

Any attribute which is in accord with God as He defines Himself is appropriate for use. We are trying today to undo your definition of God and replace it with His Own. We are also trying to emphasize that you are part of His definition of Himself.

You need to hear the truth about yourself as frequently as possible, because your mind is so preoccu­pied with false self-images. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 67, W-pI.67.1:1-5;2:1,3-9;5:2. See also ACIM Lesson 67 Insights.)

Love is one, changeless and limitless. Our true Self is Love with all Its attributes. The image we have accepted of ourselves as a body is clearly not changeless, limitless nor one with all. This image cannot be real because only Love is real.

Our salvation from the body in the world comes with letting go of our belief that the body and the ego thought system of separation is our identity. Letting go of this mistaken belief seems frightening because it seems that it would be the end of our existence.

The teachings of the Course involve two facets: It needs to help us accept the Love that is our Identity. Simultaneously it teaches us what the ego is and the price we pay in pain, suffering and fear by believing that the body is our identity and separation is real. It is a gentle process that we each take at our own pace. God’s Voice will never lead us into increased fear.

But as we learn that we do not want to pay the price that separation and specialness offer, we freely withdraw our investment in this false identity. Gradually we accept the Love we are and invest in it by giving Love. Our life experience shifts from fear and guilt, anger and depression, to increasing peacefulness, happiness, compassion and helpfulness. It is a journey of awakening to Love.

Seeing With the Eyes of Love

I am surrounded by the Love of God.

Father, You stand before me and behind, beside me, in the place I see myself, and everywhere I go. You are in all the things I look upon, the sounds I hear, and every hand that reaches for my own. In You time disappears, and place becomes a meaningless belief. For what sur­rounds Your Son and keeps him safe is Love itself. There is no source but this, and nothing is that does not share its holiness; that stands beyond Your one creation, or without the Love which holds all things within itself. Father, Your Son is like Yourself. We come to You in Your Own Name today, to be at peace within Your everlasting Love.

My brothers, join with me in this today. This is salvation’s prayer. Must we not join in what will save the world, along with us? (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 264, W-pII.264. See also ACIM Lesson 264 Insights.)

We need to learn to distrust our interpretations of everything the body perceives. Instead we need to ask of everything, “What does this mean? What is it for?” As we let the Holy Spirit in our mind answer these questions, we will learn to overlook the forms we see. With His help, we will indeed see that we are surrounded by the Love of God. Our brothers become messengers of Love reflecting back to us the Love we are.

As seeing with the eyes of Love becomes our priority, appearances in the world have diminishing effects. Peace is an increasingly predominant state of mind. We know we are safe and loved by a Love that is eternal and unlimited. We rest in the peace of God knowing that we are indeed surrounded by His Love.
