Finding the Truth of the Love We Are

No one remains in hell, for no one can abandon his Creator, nor affect His perfect, timeless and unchanging Love. You will find Heaven. Everything you seek but this will fall away. Yet not because it has been taken from you. It will go because you do not want it. You will reach the goal you really want as certainly as God created you in sinlessness.

No one can fail who seeks to reach the truth, and it is truth we seek to reach today. We will …ask to see the rising of the real world to replace the foolish images that we hold dear, with true ideas arising in the place of thoughts that have no meaning, no effect, and neither source nor substance in the truth.

For several minutes watch your mind and see, although your eyes are closed, the senseless world you think is real. Review the thoughts as well which are compatible with such a world, and which you think are true. Then let them go, and sink below them to the holy place where they can enter not. There is a door beneath them in your mind, which you could not completely lock to hide what lies beyond.

Put out your hand, and see how easily the door swings open with your one intent to go beyond it. Angels light the way, so that all darkness vanishes, and you are standing in a light so bright and clear that you can understand all things you see.

You cannot fail today. There walks with you the Spirit Heaven sent you, that you might approach this door some day, and through His aid slip effortlessly past it, to the light. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 131, W-pI.131.5;10:2-3;11:5-8;13:1-2;14:1-2. See also ACIM Lesson 131 Insights.)

Our true Self remains in Heaven, where God created It to be. We have hidden this Self from our awareness under layers of illusions of bodies which seem more real because of the belief we invest in them. We make the choice for this belief in every moment. But we can make another choice.

Today we choose to set these beliefs aside for a moment and let our thoughts sink past them to the center of peace within — our true Self. Here we find Its radiant Light that is God’s Love. This Love dispels the darkness of our fear-based thoughts. It reminds us that we are still the Love we were created to be, safe in Heaven. This is the truth we seek, the Love we thought we lost but remains forever What we are.

Taking Down the Wall of Grievances with Love

Your picture of the world can only mirror what is within. The source of neither light nor darkness can be found without. Grievances darken your mind, and you look out on a darkened world. Forgiveness lifts the darkness, reasserts your will, and lets you look upon a world of light. We have repeatedly emphasized that the barrier of grievances is easily passed, and cannot stand between you and your salvation.

Above all else, you want the freedom to remember Who you really are. Today it is the ego that stands powerless before your will. Your will is free, and nothing can prevail against it.

…tell yourself with gentle firmness and quiet certainty:

I will there be light. Let me behold the light that reflects God’s Will and mine. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 73, W-pI.73.5:1-5;7:5-7;10:1-3. See also ACIM Lesson 73 Insights.)

We share God’s Will to be and extend the Light of Love. The ego is a wish to make a world of separation and convince the Son of God to believe it is our reality. To do this it must offer a substitute image to replace the Son God created. This substitute manifests as a body, distinct and separate from other bodies. This could only seem to be real in a world shut off from the Light of Love.

To keep this world hidden the ego builds a wall of grievances which reinforce the belief that its image of our self is separate from everyone and everything. This little self is weak, vulnerable and isolated, lonely and afraid. It is not the Will of God that such a world be real, nor is it our true will.

We take down the wall the ego made to hide from the Light of Love through forgiveness. Each time we forgive a grievance, a perceived loss or fear of future harm, we let more of the Light of Love enter our mind.

We do this with the help of the Holy Spirit. We need only be willing to accept His help to see past the ego’s made-up images to the Light of Love that is ever present in our minds. As we welcome this Light, we look upon a world of Light where innocence is seen in all things. This real world reflects the Light of Heaven.

Finding the Love We Thought We Lost

Today belongs to love. Let me not fear.

Father, today I would let all things be as You created them, and give Your Son the honor due his sinlessness; the love of brother to his brother and his Friend. Through this I am redeemed. Through [Love] as well the truth will enter where illusions were, light will replace all darkness, and Your Son will know he is as You created him.

A special blessing comes to us today, from Him Who is our Father. Give this day to Him, and there will be no fear today, because the day is given unto love. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 274, W-pII.274. See also ACIM Lesson 274 Insights.)

The choice to identify with the ego or God as our Source is the choice between fear and Love. Fear can only occur if illusions of separation are believed to be real. Yet our true Self lives in the Love of God where fear is impossible.

Today we practice asking of everything, “How would Love perceive this? How would Love respond to this?” As we let Love guide our thoughts, words and actions, we choose a path of peace. Fear recedes in the presence of the Light of Love. As we follow Love’s lead, we become messengers of Love in a world hungry for Love. We become God’s channels of Love to the world searching to find the Love that has never been lost.

We Offer Love’s Blessing to the World

If you are blessed and do not know it, you need to learn it must be so. The knowledge is not taught, but its conditions must be acquired for it is they (the conditions of knowledge) that have been thrown away. You can learn to bless, and cannot give what you have not. If, then, you offer blessing, it must have come first to yourself. And you must also have accepted [blessing] as yours, for how else could you give it away? That is why miracles offer you the testimony that you are blessed. If what you offer is complete forgiveness you must have let guilt go, accepting the Atonement for yourself and learning you are guiltless.

Indirect proof of truth is needed in a world made of denial and without direction. You will perceive the need for this if you realize that to deny is the decision not to know. The logic of the world must therefore lead to nothing, for its goal is nothing. If you decide to have and give and be nothing except a dream, you must direct your thoughts unto oblivion. And if you [truly] have and give and are everything [Love], and all this has been denied, your thought system is closed off and wholly separated from the truth. This is an insane world, and do not underestimate the extent of its insanity. There is no area of your perception that it has not touched, and your dream is sacred to you. Belief in guilt manifests in many ways: Sadness, loneliness. a sense of inadequacy, remorse, shame, resentment, blame, irritation, anger and rage. We can only experience these symptoms if we deny the reality and eternal presence of Love. The world we experience is the effect of this denial. Only our belief in the world that denies Love makes it seem real.

This belief is self-perpetuating unless the mind is helped to learn that it could never be true. God answered our denial of Love by placing the Holy Spirit in our mind to lead us out of the denial of Truth. He is the Bridge between the dream based on belief and the knowledge of God’s changeless Love.

If we are willing to offer all our thoughts that are not wholly loving to the Holy Spirit, He will correct our mistaken thoughts for us. Our misperceptions will be transformed into the recognition of calls for Love and the presence of Love. There is truly nothing else to see. Our willingness to accept the Holy Spirit’s correction is willingness to accept Love’s blessing. As our mistaken thoughts are healed, we offer Love’s blessing to the world.

Recognizing Opportunities to Forgive

Let me not forget my function.

Today’s idea is merely another way of saying “Let me not wan­der into temptation.” The purpose of the world you see is to obscure your function of forgiveness, and provide you with a justification for forgetting it. It is the temptation to abandon God and His Son by taking on a physical appearance. It is this the body’s eyes look upon.

Nothing the body’s eyes seem to see can be anything but a form of temptation, since this was the purpose of the body itself. Yet we have learned that the Holy Spirit has another use for all the illusions you have made, and therefore He sees another purpose in them. To the Holy Spirit, the world is a place where you learn to forgive yourself what you think of as your sins. In this perception, the physical appearance of temptation becomes the spiritual recognition of salvation.

The world’s salvation awaits your forgiveness, because through it does the Son of God escape from all illusions, and thus from all temptation. The Son of God is you. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 64, W-pI.64.1-2;3:3-4. See also ACIM Lesson 64 Insights.)

It is important to understand that the ego made the body as a defense against the oneness of God’s Love. When we are tempted to identify with the body, we cannot know that we are God’s Son because we are believing the illusion of separation is real.

The Holy Spirit has another purpose for the body. His purpose is to use the body to bring to our attention the beliefs that need to be forgiven. When we believe what the body perceives is real, we inevitably react with various forms of fear or guilt. The Holy Spirit uses these reactions to bring our attention to the need for forgiveness.

Whenever there is a feeling of fear or guilt, there is a mistaken belief that needs to be let go. When we accept the Holy Spirit’s guidance, He will show us how to let go of the mistaken belief. Leading us on this path to forgiveness is the Holy Spirit’s only purpose. Every moment of every day we have opportunities to learn His lessons.

Today we dedicate to following the lead of our inner Teacher.

Remembering Our Safety in God

[We] invite the memory of God to come… to all the seeming happen­ings throughout the day.

[We say:]

I am not a body. I am free.
For I am still as God created me.

When you are tempted [with a thought of separation], hasten to proclaim your freedom from temptation, as you say:

This thought I do not want. I choose instead __________.

…let Him teach you what to do and say and think, each time you turn to Him. He will not fail to be available to you, each time you call to Him to help you. (A Course in Miracles Workbook, Part I, Review VI, W-pI.rVI.1:4;2:2;3:3-5;)

The world was made by the ego to usurp God and banish His memory from our mind. The ego believes it is constantly threatened by God and must protect itself. God does not do battle or attack. He remains eternally the same — eternal, changeless Love and nothing else. The ego’s perception of threat is justified from its perspective because were we to accept that we are not a body and remain as God created us, the ego would simply cease to seem to exist.

As we invite the memory of God into our mind in every situation, the ego’s illusions of attack and defend are recognized as meaningless and ineffectual. Our safety lies in our unity with God. The truth in us is God’s Love.

With the memory of God accepted in our mind, we are naturally a channel of His Love in every situation. Where there is a call for Love, the Love we are answers. We automatically recognize and join with the presence of Love everywhere and in all situations.

The body becomes an instrument of Love’s expression instead of the ego’s symbol of vulnerability and conflict. The memory of God assures us of our safety. We reside in His Love, peace and joy.

Claiming Our True Identity

I am as God created me.

This single thought, held firmly in the mind, would save the world. …These words are sacred, for they are the words God gave in an­swer to the world you made. By them it disappears, and all things seen within its misty clouds and vaporous illusions vanish as these words are spoken. For they come from God.

Here is the Word by which the Son became his Father’s happiness, His Love and His completion. Here creation is proclaimed, and honored as it is. There is no dream these words will not dispel; no thought of sin and no illusion which the dream contains that will not fade away before their might.

Holy indeed is he who makes these words his own; arising with them in his mind, recalling them throughout the day, at night bringing them with him as he goes to sleep. His dreams are happy and his rest secure, his safety certain and his body healed, because he sleeps and wakens with the truth before him always. While we believe we are a body, we are identifying with an image that does not come from God. God’s Love is limitless, boundless and eternal. To be in God’s likeness, we must have His attributes. But the image of a body is a limitation that binds us to a world of separation that God did not create. It is a world made by the ego to hide from God’s Love.

Love is one, eternal and changeless. The differences in the world of bodies cannot exist in Love. The Love, joy and peace of God are the same everywhere, always without limit. This is what God created as His extension, His Son — our true Self.

When we affirm, “I am as God created me,” we are claiming our true Identity. This Identity cannot be sick, lonely, afraid or guilty. As we claim this Identity, we let go of the mistaken beliefs that make the world of bodies seem real. The images of the ego fade as our belief in them is withdrawn to be replaced by the Light of Love. As we let this Light shine through us, we bring healing to the world.
