Letting the Light of Love into Our World

Above all else I want to see differently.

The world I see holds my fearful self-image in place, and guar­antees its continuance. While I see the world as I see it now, truth cannot enter my awareness. I would let the door behind this world be opened for me, that I may look past it to the world that reflects the Love of God.

God is in everything I see.

Behind every image I have made, the truth remains unchanged. Behind every veil I have drawn across the face of love, its light remains undimmed. Beyond all my insane wishes is my will, united with the Will of my Father. God is still everywhere and in everything forever. And we who are part of Him will yet look past all appearances, and recognize the truth beyond them all. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 56, W-pI.56.3-4. See also ACIM Lesson 56 Insights.)

All the images we see in the world — bodies, buildings, places and things — are veils drawn across the face of Love, the Presence of God. We are still immersed in God’s Love, for it is His Will that His Son, our true Self, remain one with Him. The world is the ego’s hiding place to avoid the oneness of God’s Love. It is a fantasy world that could never be real because only Love is real.

We do not have to figure out how to free ourselves from the ego’s fantasy. We cannot release ourselves while we identify with the ego, but we do not need to. God provided the Holy Spirit to help us undo our mistaken beliefs.

We need to let the Holy Spirit bring us the miracle of true perception that will heal us of our mistaken thoughts. We let the Holy Spirit help us by being willing to bring all our perceptions to Him to receive His correction. The Holy Spirit will do the rest. Our vigilance in the practice of willingness and acceptance of the Holy Spirit’s help is all that is required of us. Today is a good day to practice.

Letting Love Guide Us Home

Would you know the Will of God for you? Ask it of me who knows it for you and you will find it. I will deny you nothing, as God denies me nothing. Ours is simply the journey back to God Who is our home. Whenever fear intrudes anywhere along the road to peace, it is because the ego has attempted to join the journey with us and cannot do so. Sensing defeat and angered by it, the ego regards itself as rejected and becomes retaliative. You are invulnerable to its retaliation because I am with you. On this journey you have chosen me as your companion instead of the ego. Do not attempt to hold on to both, or you will try to go in different directions and will lose the way.

Never accord the ego the power to interfere with the journey. It has none, because the journey is the way to what is true. Leave all illusions behind, and reach beyond all attempts of the ego to hold you back. I go before you because I am beyond the ego. Reach, therefore, for my hand because you want to transcend the ego. My strength will never be wanting, and if you choose to share it you will do so. The Holy Spirit is our constant Companion, ready and willing to guide us back to our Home in God. The Holy Spirit is in our mind, but not the part of our mind that has chosen the ego as its guide. The ego not only does not know the way Home, it defends against our return Home. We resist the Holy Spirit’s guidance on our journey while we choose to identify with the ego because the ego is afraid of the Holy Spirit and of God. The ego knows that if we choose to follow the Holy Spirit, the ego will be recognized as powerless and in truth, non existent.

Today and every day we can choose to rely on the strength and Love of the Holy Spirit as our Guide on the journey Home. Each time we are willing to exchange our perceptions for the Holy Spirit’s vision, the ego’s illusions fade. We free ourselves to see past the illusions to the truth of our oneness with the Love in every brother and the Love of God, our Home.

Walking into the Light of Love

If God’s Will for you is complete peace and joy, unless you experience only this you must be refusing to acknowledge His Will. His Will does not vacillate, being changeless forever. When you are not at peace it can only be because you do not believe you are in Him. Yet He is All in all. His peace is complete, and you must be included in it. His laws govern you because they govern everything. You cannot exempt yourself from His laws, although you can disobey them. Yet if you do, and only if you do, you will feel lonely and helpless, because you are denying yourself everything.

I am come as a light into a world that does deny itself everything. It does this simply by dissociating itself from everything. It is therefore an illusion of isolation, maintained by fear of the same loneliness that is [the world’s] illusion. I said that I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. That is why I am the light of the world. If I am with you in the loneliness of the world, the loneliness is gone. You cannot maintain the illusion of loneliness if you are not alone. My purpose, then, is still to overcome the world. I do not attack it, but my light must dispel it because of what it is. Light does not attack darkness, but it does shine it away. If my light goes with you everywhere, you shine it away with me. The light becomes ours, and you cannot abide in darkness any more than darkness can abide wherever you go. Loneliness is the inevitable effect of choosing to believe we are separate. The Course is teaching us to let go of this belief so that we can experience the eternal presence of God’s Love. This is our Home. In truth we live in Love’s peace and joy.

Today we will remind ourselves that we live in God’s Love and His Will is that we have all of His peace and joy. We walk with a mighty Companion, Whose Light shines away the darkness of separation and shows us the Reality of Love that is our Home.

God’s Answer for All Wrong Decisions

You can encounter only part of yourself because you are part of God, Who is everything. His power and glory are everywhere, and you cannot be excluded from them. The ego teaches that your strength is in you alone. The Holy Spirit teaches that all strength is in God and therefore in you. God wills no one suffer. He does not will anyone to suffer for a wrong decision, including you. That is why He has given you the means for undoing [wrong decisions]. Through His power and glory all your wrong decisions are undone completely, releasing you and your brother from every imprisoning thought any part of the Sonship holds. Wrong decisions have no power, because they are not true. The imprisonment [your wrong decisions] seem to produce is no more true than they are.

Power and glory belong to God alone. So do you. God gives whatever belongs to Him because He gives of Himself, and everything belongs to Him. Giving of yourself is the function He gave you. Fulfilling it perfectly will let you remember what you have of Him, and by this you will remember also what you are in Him. You cannot be powerless to do this, because this is your power. God has given us the means to undo all our wrong decisions. This fact frees us from the burden of guilt we carry when we believe we have made wrong decisions that may have brought harm to others or offended God. God is never offended by His Son because He knows His Son is one with Him.

When we decided to the believe we separated from God, His instantaneous response was to give us the means to undo that mistaken decision. That gift brought with it all of His power and glory. Nothing can interfere with the success of the means He gave to us, His Son, to be released from our mistakes. God sees no sin and no cause for guilt; He sees only mistakes to be corrected that His Son may remember His Father and His Home.

Today we welcome the Holy Spirit’s help by bringing every twinge of guilt or fear to the Holy Spirit with willingness to receive His loving correction.

Claiming the Value Given Us by God

The only purpose worthy of your mind this world contains is that you pass it by, without delaying to perceive some hope where there is none. Be you deceived no more. The world you see holds nothing that you want.

Pause and be still a little while, and see how far you rise above the world, when you release your mind from chains and let it seek the level where it finds itself at home. [Your mind] will be grateful to be free a while. It knows where it belongs. But free its wings, and it will fly in sureness and in joy to join its holy purpose. Let [your mind] rest in its Creator, there to be restored to sanity, to freedom and to love.

Give [your mind] ten minutes rest three times today. And when your eyes are opened afterwards, you will not value anything you see as much as when you looked at it before. Your whole perspec­tive on the world will shift by just a little, every time you let your mind escape its chains. The world is not where [your mind] belongs. And you belong where it would be, and where it goes to rest when you release [your mind] from the world. Your Guide is sure. Open your mind to Him. Be still and rest. It is helpful to remember that the world is a projection of the ego’s wish to have something it can call its own. It is a wish for the impossible, for only Love is real and It is the same everywhere, changeless and unchangeable. To have what it wants, the ego had to make up an illusion of a world with empty images that have no meaning of their own. We give these images meaning only by our belief in them. When we withdraw the beliefs, the images are recognized as nothing.

Our true Self is Love and nothing else. Love’s only desire is to extend itself, freely giving equally to all. It is this that brings us joy because we are fulfilling the purpose given us in our Creation as God’s extension of Love. As we pause today to rise above the images of the world, the value we have given them fades as we welcome the peace and Love of our true Self. The limitations of the world diminish as we remember our unity with our Creator.

Learning to Love Without Limit

Forgetfulness and sleep and even death become the ego’s best advice for dealing with the perceived and harsh intrusion of guilt on peace. Yet no one sees himself in conflict and ravaged by a cruel war unless he believes that both opponents in the war are real. Believing this he must escape, for such a war would surely end his peace of mind, and so destroy him. Yet if he could but realize the war is between real and unreal powers, he could look upon himself and see his freedom. No one finds himself ravaged and torn in endless battles if he himself perceives them as wholly without meaning.

God would not have His Son embattled, and so His Son’s imagined “enemy” is totally unreal. You are but trying to escape a bitter war from which you have escaped. The war is gone. For you have heard the hymn of freedom rising unto Heaven. Gladness and joy belong to God for your release, because you made it not. Yet as you made not freedom, so you made not a war that could endanger freedom. Nothing destructive ever was or will be. The war, the guilt, the past are gone as one into the unreality from which they came.

In Heaven is everything God values, and nothing else. Heaven is perfectly unambiguous. Everything is clear and bright, and calls forth one response [extension of Love]. There is no darkness and there is no contrast. There is no variation. There is no interruption. There is a sense of peace so deep that no dream in this world has ever brought even a dim imagining of what it is. (A Course in Miracles, T-13.XI.1-2;3:7-13. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

Central to the lessons of A Course in Miracles is the fact that the world of form that we experience is an illusion. This seems to be in direct conflict with what we perceive in the world. This is because we perceive what we believe in, whether or not it is true. The Course provides us with lessons to learn to distinguish the true from the false, the real from the unreal.

The ego defends against these lessons because if we fully accept them, the ego would disappear and we would know that we are free to Love without limit. This is our true freedom, for we were created as Love’s extension and our one function is to extend the Love we are.

Our acceptance of the Love we are frees us from all conflict and doubt. The oneness of Love is conflict free. The changelessness of Love eliminates all uncertainty. We dwell in perfect peace and share God’s joy in the free giving and receiving of Love.

The Key That Ends Conflict

The idea for today [There is no will but God’s] can be regarded as the central thought toward which all our exercises are directed. God’s is the only Will. When you have recognized this, you have recognized that your will is His. The belief that conflict is possible has gone. Peace has replaced the strange idea that you are torn by conflict­ing goals. As an expression of the Will of God, you have no goal but His.

There is great peace in today’s idea, and the exercises for today are directed towards finding it. The idea itself is wholly true. Therefore it cannot give rise to illusions. Without illusions conflict is impossible.

There is no will but God’s. I cannot be in conflict.

All the appearances of conflict in the world are not God’s Will. In fact, conflict is the effect of the ego’s opposition to God’s Will. The ego, the belief in separation, is the idea of conflict. But on the first page of the Course we are told that only Love is real. Thus conflict cannot be real.

Our resistance to accepting God’s Will as ours comes from the ego idea of sacrifice. The ego warns us that we will have to give up the ego’s fantasies if we accept God’s Will as ours. It tries to convince us that the forms it offers us — special relationships, status, pretty things and myriad other forms — have value. Yet their seeming value comes only from our belief in them.

The moment we remove our belief, the meaninglessness of the empty forms becomes clear. There is no value there. To give these up is to give up nothing. To accept God’s Will as ours is to gain everything that is real. This is the desire of our true Self — to remember Who we really are.
