We Are Safe in the Heart of Love

Forgiveness offers everything I want.

All the complexities the world has spun of fragile cobwebs disappear before the power and the majesty of this extremely simple statement of the truth.

Here is the answer! Do not turn away in aimless wandering again. Accept salvation now. It is the gift of God, and not the world. The world can give no gifts of any value to a mind that has received what God has given as its own. God wills salvation be received today, and that the intricacies of your dreams no longer hide their nothingness from you.

Open your eyes today and look upon a happy world of safety and of peace. Forgiveness is the means by which it comes to take the place of hell. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 122, W-pI.122.6:7-8:2. See also ACIM Lesson 122 Insights.)

The ego cannot forgive. True forgiveness would eliminate the belief in separation. When forgiveness is complete, the ego would simply cease to seem to exist.

By God’s grace, we have been given the means for true forgiveness. The Holy Spirit’s mission is to teach us to see as He sees; to remember only Love is real. This remembrance comes with true perception, which the Holy Spirit’s vision offers us. His vision sees past the illusionary images of the world to the oneness of Love that is the one Self we all share.

As we accept the Holy Spirit’s vision, the value of the ego’s images diminishes to be replaced by God’s peace and joy. The temporary “benefits” of things in the world are recognized as meaningless in the Light of eternal Love that is seen with true perception. All we really want is to remember that we are Love, at Home in Love, safe in the Heart of Love. Forgiveness offers this.

Dispelling Fear with Love

…a meaningless world is impossible. Nothing without meaning exists. However, it does not follow that you will not think you perceive something that has no meaning. On the contrary, you will be particularly likely to think you do perceive it.

Recognition of meaninglessness arouses intense anxiety in all the separated ones. It represents a situation in which God and the ego “challenge” each other as to whose meaning is to be written in the empty space that meaninglessness provides. The ego rushes in frantically to establish its own ideas there, fearful that the void may otherwise be used to demonstrate its own impotence and unreality. And on this alone it is correct.

It is essential, therefore, that you learn to recognize the meaningless, and accept it without fear. If you are fearful, it is certain that you will endow the world with attributes that it does not possess, and crowd it with images that do not exist. To the ego illusions are safety devices, as they must also be to you who equate yourself with the ego. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 13, W-pI.13.1:2-3:3. See also ACIM Lesson 13 Insights.)

If we believe we are an individual housed in a body, we are equating ourselves with the ego. God is the Source of all meaning, being eternal and changeless. Only His Love is real. It is our unity with our Creator that gives us meaning. It keeps our true Self eternally connected with the flow of Love.

The ego is trying to make a different meaning that is disconnected from Love. The wish for specialness denies Love because Love is always given equally to all. The ego is afraid of God’s Will because it is competing with God, yielding to His Will would mean the end of the ego.

The Will of our true Self is the same as God’s Will. In our union with God we find peace and happiness. The best the ego can offer are empty substitutes that give the appearance of specialness but cannot be real. Thus the ego’s images are meaningless. When we identity with the ego, we will always feel unfulfilled. Fulfillment comes when we serve our only true purpose — to extend Love. Extending Love is the antidote that dispels the ego’s fear. As we join in Love, we equate ourselves with God’s one Son.

Finding the Certainty of God.

This course is a beginning, not an end. Your Friend [God’s Voice] goes with you. You are not alone. No one who calls on Him can call in vain. Whatever troubles you, be certain that He has the answer, and will gladly give it to you, if you simply turn to Him and ask it of Him. He will not withhold all answers that you need for anything that seems to trouble you. He knows the way to solve all problems, and resolve all doubts. His certainty is yours. You need but ask it of Him, and it will be given you.

You are as certain of arriving home as is the pathway of the sun laid down before it rises, after it has set, and in the half-lit hours in between. Indeed, your pathway is more certain still. For it can not be possible to change the course of those whom God has called to Him. Therefore obey your will, and follow Him Whom you accepted as your voice, to speak of what you really want and really need. His is the Voice for God and also yours. And thus He speaks of freedom and of truth. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Epilogue, W-pII.ep.1-2)

We have God’s guarantee that we will find our way back to the Home He created for us in eternal, changeless Love. His Voice calls to us unceasingly. This Voice is ever-present to guide us to true perception, which sees that only Love is real. He teaches us that we are innocent, for we have not changed God’s Son. We remain Love as Love created us.

In times of uncertainty and doubt about the way to go, we can count on His Voice to guide us. As we practice listening, we are guided to the path in gentleness and peace that leads us to the Home we never left in truth.

Entering into the Presence of Love

This day is holy, for it ushers in a new experience; a different kind of feeling and awareness. You have spent long days and nights in celebrating death. Today you learn to feel the joy of life.

Today it will be given you to feel a touch of Heaven, though you will return to paths of learning. Yet you have come far enough along the way to alter time sufficiently to rise above its laws, and walk into eternity a while. This you will learn to do increasingly, as every lesson, faithfully rehearsed, brings you more swiftly to this holy place and leaves you, for a moment, to your Self.

Nothing is needed but today’s idea [into His Presence would I enter now] to light your mind, and let it rest in still anticipation and in quiet joy, wherein you quickly leave the world behind. From this day forth, your ministry takes on a genuine devotion, and a glow that travels from your fingertips to those you touch, and blesses those you look upon. A vision reaches everyone you meet, and everyone you think of, or who thinks of you. For your experience today will so transform your mind that it becomes the touchstone for the holy Thoughts of God. In truth, our true Self’s Presence is always with us. Affirming that we want to enter into His Presence is declaring our willingness to accept our true Self as our Identity. Our true Self knows our unity with Love, our Creator. When we identify with the body, we are identifying with an illusion, making ourselves unaware of our true Self, our true Identity.

When we identify with our true Self, we identify with Love, peace and joy. This is our inheritance, given us by our Creator without limit. We experience this when we stop trying to make real an identity in a separate body with a private mind, isolated from our brothers. When we enter into the Presence of our true Self, we recognize our oneness with every brother, for we share this one Self. When we see the loving truth of our brother, we enter into the Presence of Love.

True Perception with the Holy Spirit

If you did not feel guilty you could not attack, for condemnation is the root of attack. It is the judgment of one mind by another as unworthy of love and deserving of punishment. But herein lies the split. For the mind that judges perceives itself as separate from the mind being judged, believing that by punishing another, it will escape punishment. All this is but the delusional attempt of the mind to deny itself, and escape the penalty of denial. It is not an attempt to relinquish denial, but to hold on to it. For it is guilt that has obscured the Father to you, and it is guilt that has driven you insane.

The acceptance of guilt into the mind of God’s Son was the beginning of the separation, as the acceptance of the Atonement [true perception] is its end.

This world is a picture of the crucifixion of God’s Son. And until you realize that God’s Son cannot be crucified, this is the world you will see. Yet you will not realize [that God’s Son cannot be crucified] until you accept the eternal fact that God’s Son is not guilty. He deserves only love because he has given only love. He cannot be condemned because he has never condemned. The Atonement is the final lesson he need learn, for it teaches him that, never having sinned, he has no need of salvation. God’s Son is the extension of God’s Love and remains united with Its Source, the Mind of Love. Thus God’s Son shares all of God’s attributes. God’s Son can give only Love because His Son is only Love. He cannot give what he does not have. This is why God’s Son cannot sin because separation is inconceivable in the Mind of Love. Love sees only Love and extends only Love. There is nothing else.

Only the belief that there something different and distinct from Love’s oneness makes judgment seem justified. This is the belief in separation, which brings guilt with it. The mind that judges is simply projecting its judgment on itself. In the oneness of Love this is impossible. To make guilt appear to be justified, a world had to be made with images of separation. This is the ego’s world. In this world it is impossible to recognize the reality of Love’s oneness.

Returning our mind to its original awareness of oneness is accomplished through true perception. To achieve true perception, we need the help of the Holy Spirit in our mind. He remembers that only Love is real and dismisses images of separation as unreal. The Holy Spirit’s vision will help us join with the Him to overlook the images of the dream and recognize only Love is real.

Today we dedicate to walking with Holy Spirit as our Guide.

Freeing Ourselves to Accept God’s Love

You want salvation. You want to be happy. You want peace. You do not have them now, because your mind is totally undisciplined, and you cannot distinguish between joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain, love and fear. You are now learning how to tell them apart. And great indeed will be your reward.

Your decision to see is all that vision requires. What you want is yours. …God has one Son, and he is the resurrection and the life. His will is done because all power is given him in Heaven and on earth. In your determination to see is vision given you.

…as you repeat the idea [I am determined to see], you are stating that you are determined to change your present state for a better one, and one you really want.

The extra repetitions should be applied to any situation, person or event that upsets you. You can see them differently, and you will. What you desire you will see. In the ego’s dream, special relationships are its substitutes for Love. The ego seeks to find a situation or person which it believes will make us happy or feel complete. But if we find that special person or situation, there is always an underlying fear that we will lose it because nothing in the world is permanent. We may think that a special relationship is pleasurable, but beneath the surface is the pain of guilt and fear that comes from believing we have separated from God’s Love.

The antidote for these perceptions is to see beyond the the surface of forms to the eternal presence of God’s Love. Happiness and peace are attributes of Love. In the changelessness of Love, we are perfectly safe and in need of nothing.

As we identify with Love, there is nothing to fear, no chance of loss. In Love’s oneness, there is no thought of separation, only the joyous sharing of God’s Love. It is this we are determined to see. This vision frees us from the ego’s limitations to accept our unity with unlimited Love.

How to Bring Love to the World

The setting of the Holy Spirit’s goal [of truth] is general. Now He will work with you to make it specific, for application is specific. There are certain very specific guidelines He provides for any situation,…

In any situation in which you are uncertain, the first thing to consider, very simply, is “What do I want to come of this? What is it for?” The clarification of the goal belongs at the beginning, for it is this which will determine the outcome.

The goal of truth has further practical advantages. If the situation is used for truth and sanity, its outcome must be peace. And this is quite apart from what the outcome is. If peace is the condition of truth and sanity, and cannot be without them, where peace is they must be. Truth comes of itself. If you experience peace, it is because the truth has come to you and you will see the outcome truly, for deception cannot prevail against you. You will recognize the outcome because you are at peace. Here again you see the opposite of the ego’s way of looking, for the ego believes the situation brings the experience. The Holy Spirit knows that the situation is as the goal determines it, and is experienced according to the goal. (A Course in Miracles, T-17.VI.1:4-6;2:1-3;5. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

We must be willing to learn what is true when we ask for the Holy Spirit’s guidance. This is how we reverse our old habit of choosing the ego as our guide. The ego is the denial of truth, so choosing the Holy Spirit is the choice to turn away from the ego’s lies.

Our willingness to learn the truth is all the Holy Spirit needs to teach us that only Love is real. Our willingness welcomes the Holy Spirit’s goal of truth.

The Holy Spirit uses our specific situations to teach us how Love sees the situation as a whole. We open to this vision by asking of the Holy Spirit, “What is this for?” Now our minds are open to learn what is truly meaningful in the situation. The Holy Spirit will guide us in a way that is truly helpful for all concerned. It brings the message of Love’s reality to the situation in a specific form which can be understood from the world’s perspective.

The outcome of this guidance will always bring peace. With peace comes understanding. The experience of peace demonstrates that we have brought sanity into the ego’s insane thought system. We have taken a step toward accepting the Love we are. Through this practice we remove our barriers to the awareness of Love’s presence.
