Passing By the Stories of This World

³The only purpose worthy of your mind this world contains is that you pass it by…

Pause and be still a little while, and see how far you rise above the world, when you release your mind from chains and let it seek the level where it finds itself at home. ²[Your mind] will be grateful to be free a while. ³It knows where it belongs. ⁴But free its wings, and it will fly in sureness and in joy to join its holy purpose. ⁵Let it rest in its Creator, there to be restored to sanity, to freedom and to love.

…when your eyes are opened afterwards, you will not value anything you see as much as when you looked at it before. ³Your whole perspective on the world will shift by just a little, every time you let your mind escape its chains. ⁴The world is not where it belongs. ⁵And you belong where it would be, and where it goes to rest when you release it from the world. ⁶Your Guide is sure. ⁷Open your mind to Him. ⁸Be still and rest.

Protect your mind throughout the day as well. ²And when you think you see some value in an aspect or an image of the world, refuse to lay this chain upon your mind, but tell yourself with quiet certainty:

³This will not tempt me to delay myself.

Every day in this world there are stories of disaster, deprivation and disease. Our only purpose in the world is to not fall for these stories. They are not real. They have no effect whatsoever on our true Self, which remains united with the Love of our Creator.

This Love is one and eternal. It never changes, cannot be lost, and flows freely through the universe without limit. This is our shared Identity.

We can train ourselves to pass by the stories of this world by reminding ourselves not to be tempted to believe them. As we accept the Love that is our Identity, we can observe the images of this world and let them pass by. We remain in peace in the oneness of the Love of our Creator.

Forgiveness Reveals Love’s Presence

Condemn and you are made a prisoner. ²Forgive and you are freed. ³Such is the law that rules perception. ⁴It is not a law that knowledge understands, for freedom is a part of knowledge. ⁵To condemn is thus impossible in truth. ⁶What seems to be its influence and its effects have not occurred at all. ⁷Yet must we deal with [effects] a while as if they had. ⁸Illusion makes illusion. ⁹Except one. ¹⁰Forgiveness is illusion that is answer to the rest.

Forgiveness sweeps all other dreams away, and though it is itself a dream, it breeds no others. ²All illusions save this one must multiply a thousandfold. ³But [forgiveness] is where illusions end. ⁴Forgiveness is the end of dreams, because it is a dream of waking. ⁵It is not itself the truth. ⁶Yet does it point to where the truth must be, and gives direction with the certainty of God Himself. ⁷It is a dream in which the Son of God awakens to his Self and to his Father, knowing They are one.

Forgiveness is the only road that leads out of disaster, past all suffering, and finally away from death. ²How could there be another way, when this one is the plan of God Himself? (A Course in Miracles, W-198.2:1–4:2. See also ACIM Lesson 198 Insights.)

Forgiveness clears away the veil that hides the presence of Love from our awareness. This veil represents the ego’s refusal to accept all of God’s Love. It is only a belief that denies reality.

But we have been given the means to undo our mistaken belief. Forgiveness lets the Presence of Love be recognized and accepted. We need help to see past our self-imposed veil. The Holy Spirit takes our willingness to changing our perceptions to offer us Christ’s vision, which shows us the Love that is always present.

As we let Love be revealed, we awaken and are freed to join in the eternal Love of God’s Love.

No Longer Falling for the Ego’s Story

This holy instant would I give to You. Be You in charge. For I would follow You, certain that Your direction gives me peace.

And if I need a word to help me, He will give it to me. ²If I need a thought, that will He also give. ³And if I need but stillness and a tranquil, open mind, these are the gifts I will receive of Him. ⁴He is in charge by my request. ⁵And He will hear and answer me, because He speaks for God my Father and His holy Son. The ego is a fantasy of a “life” experience of what it would be like if we weren’t God’s Son as God created Him. It seems to offer specialness, a unique identity, with benefits that are enticing. We’ve fallen for the story and identified with its main character. The script is subtle and does not show openly that all the other characters in the script are projections of the main character.

The story is filled with adventure, some frightening, some rewarding. But none of it is real. We have fallen for this story and lost our way. Fortunately we have been given the Holy Spirit to guide us out of the story.

He helps us forgive ourselves for falling for the story. He shows us the Light that reveals the truth beyond the story.  It reveals the Love that embraces us all as one with our Creator. We no longer fall for the story. We are ready to wake up.

We Have Help to Forgive Our Misperceptions

Father, Your Mind created all that is, Your Spirit entered into it, Your Love gave life to it. ²And would I look upon what You created as if it could be made sinful? ³I would not perceive such dark and fearful images. ⁴A madman’s dream is hardly fit to be my choice, instead of all the loveliness with which You blessed creation; all its purity, its joy, and its eternal, quiet home in You.

And while we still remain outside the gate of Heaven, let us look on all we see through holy vision and the eyes of Christ. ²Let all appearances seem pure to us, that we may pass them by in innocence, and walk together to our Father’s house as brothers and the holy Sons of God. We dream of being in a world that God did not create. It appears that lack and loss are real and fear and guilt are justified. Yet the forgiving eyes of Christ see past these images, knowing they have no effect on the reality of our oneness in the Love of God.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us forgive our misperceptions, to see past the images that once brought us fear and guilt. We want to see with Christ’s vision so that we can pass by the images of the dream and join with our brothers as we take the path together to Heaven the Holy Spirit has laid out for us.

As we join with our brothers in Love, we experience God’s peace and joy as He welcomes us Home.

Accepting Love as Our Identity

I am not a body. I am free.

Freedom must be impossible as long as you perceive a body as yourself. ²The body is a limit. ³Who would seek for freedom in a body looks for it where it can not be found. ⁴The mind can be made free when it no longer sees itself as in a body, firmly tied to it and sheltered by its presence. ⁵If this were the truth, the mind were vulnerable indeed!

The mind that serves the Holy Spirit is unlimited forever, in all ways, beyond the laws of time and space, unbound by any preconceptions, and with strength and power to do whatever it is asked. ²Attack thoughts cannot enter such a mind, because it has been given to the Source of love, and fear can never enter in a mind that has attached itself to love. ³It rests in God. ⁴And who can be afraid who lives in Innocence, and only loves?

You are God’s Son. ²In immortality you live forever. ³Would you not return your mind to this? ⁴Then practice well the thought the Holy Spirit gives you for today. ⁵Your brothers stand released with you in it; the world is blessed along with you, God’s Son will weep no more, and Heaven offers thanks for the increase of joy your practice brings even to it. ⁶And God Himself extends His Love and happiness each time you say:

⁷I am not a body. ⁸I am free. ⁹I hear the Voice that God has given me, and it is only this my mind obeys. (W-199.1:1–2:4;8:1-9)

The Holy Spirit only speaks the truth to us. He speaks to us of Love’s reality. It guides us on a path that leads us out of the ego’s denial of Love. It reminds us that we are Love and nothing else.

Love is unlimited and eternal. It is not bound by the limits of a body. Today we identify with unlimited Love as our Identity. We remind ourselves that we share this Identity with every brother, for Love is one. We are grateful for God’s Voice to guide us Home to the Love of our Father.

Seeing the Love in Our Brothers

Forget not that you came this far together, you and your brother. ²And it was surely not the ego that led you here. ³No obstacle to peace can be surmounted through its help. ⁴It does not open up its secrets, and bid you look on them and go beyond them. ⁵It would not have you see its weakness, and learn it has no power to keep you from the truth. ⁶The Guide Who brought you here remains with you, and when you raise your eyes you will be ready to look on terror with no fear at all. ⁷But first, lift up your eyes and look on your brother in innocence born of complete forgiveness of his illusions, and through the eyes of faith that sees them not.

No one can look upon the fear of God unterrified, unless he has accepted the Atonement and learned illusions are not real. ²No one can stand before this obstacle alone, for he could not have reached this far unless his brother walked beside him. ³And no one would dare to look on it without complete forgiveness of his brother in his heart.

⁴Before complete forgiveness you still stand unforgiving. ⁵You are afraid of God _because_ you fear your brother. ⁶Those you do not forgive you fear. ⁷And no one reaches love with fear beside him.

²Think who your brother is, before you would condemn him. ³And offer thanks to God that he is holy, and has been given the gift of holiness for you. ⁴Join him in gladness, and remove all trace of guilt from his disturbed and tortured mind. ⁵Help him to lift the heavy burden of sin you laid upon him and he accepted as his own, and toss it lightly and with happy laughter away from him. (T-19.IV-D.8:1-9:3;11:4-7;16:2-5)

The ego does not want us to see the truth in our brother. The brilliance of his Love would dispel all ego illusions and we would see the Love we are. We would recognize our unity in Love that forever binds us to the Love of our Father.

Today we practice seeing the Love in those whom we hold dear. We take that awareness of Love’s Presence and direct it to one we fear. The vision of the Love will show us that there is nothing to fear. What disturbed us was never real. We join with the Love he is with happy laughter as we are united with our Father. And we give thanks.

Forgiving Our Illusions Set Us Free

I will accept my part in God’s plan for salvation.

Today is a day of special dedication. ²We take a stand on but one side today. ³We side with truth and let illusions go.

³We have a mighty purpose to fulfill, and have been given everything we need with which to reach the goal. ⁴Not one mistake stands in our way. ⁵For we have been absolved from errors. ⁶All our sins are washed away by realizing they were but mistakes.

The guiltless have no fear, for they are safe and recognize their safety. ²They do not appeal to magic, nor invent escapes from fancied threats without reality. ³They rest in quiet certainty that they will do what it is given them to do. ⁴They do not doubt their own ability because they know their function will be filled completely in the perfect time and place.

Here is an offer guaranteeing you your full release from pain of every kind, and joy the world does not contain. ²You can exchange a little of your time for peace of mind and certainty of purpose, with the promise of complete success. We dedicate today to forgiving our illusions. If a judgment comes to mind, we offer it to the Holy Spirit. In our willingness to receive His response, we learn that only the reality of Love’s oneness is true. There is nothing to judge, nothing to fear. We dwell in the safety of God’s Love.

The plan He has given us is offered to lead us Home to Love, where we belong. And where, in truth, we never left. Everyone we see or even think of offers us an opportunity to see them truly. In this vision, we are saved from our errors and returned to Love.
