Letting Our Fear Thoughts Be Healed

I walk with God in perfect holiness.

Today’s idea but states the simple truth that makes the thought of sin impossible. ²It promises there is no cause for guilt, and being causeless it does not exist. ³It follows surely from the basic thought so often mentioned in the text; ideas leave not their source. ⁴If this be true, how can you be apart from God? ⁵How could you walk the world alone and separate from your Source?

⁴You cannot walk the world apart from God, because you could not be without Him. ⁵He is what your life is. ⁶Where you are He is. ⁷There is one life. ⁸That life you share with Him. ⁹Nothing can be apart from Him and live.

⁴In lightness and in laughter is sin gone, because its quaint absurdity is seen. ⁵It is a foolish thought, a silly dream, not frightening, ridiculous perhaps, but who would waste an instant in approach to God Himself for such a senseless whim?

Yet you have wasted many, many years on just this foolish thought. ²The past is gone, with all its fantasies. ³They keep you bound no longer. ⁴The approach to God is near. (A Course in Miracles, W-156.1;2:4-9;6:4–7:4. See also ACIM Lesson 156 Insights.)

Love is our Life. There is no life apart from Love. The idea that life could exist apart from eternal Love is an illusion.

Today we offer our mistaken beliefs to the Holy Spirit for His help to forgive them. As we let Him heal our thoughts which are barriers to Love, we will experience the joy and peace of God. We will remember we always walk with God.

Welcoming the Light of Love

The ego is insane. ²In fear it stands beyond the Everywhere, apart from All, in separation from the Infinite. ³In its insanity it thinks it has become a victor over God Himself.

The Son of God is egoless. ²What can he know of madness and the death of God, when he abides in Him? ³What can he know of sorrow and of suffering, when he lives in eternal joy? ⁴What can he know of fear and punishment, of sin and guilt, of hatred and attack, when all there is surrounding him is everlasting peace, forever conflict-free and undisturbed, in deepest silence and tranquility?

To know reality is not to see the ego and its thoughts, its works, its acts, its laws and its beliefs, its dreams, its hopes, its plans for its salvation, and the cost belief in it entails.

Yet will one lily of forgiveness change the darkness into light; the altar to illusions to the shrine of Life Itself. ²And peace will be restored forever to the holy minds which God created as His Son, His dwelling place, His joy, His love, completely His, completely one with Him. (A Course in Miracles, W-pII.12.2:1-3;3;12.4:1;5)

The ego does not exist in truth. But our belief in it makes it seem real. We believe we are in its dream of conflict, attack, loss, fear and guilt. We believe the ego is our identity.

The ego is only the belief in a false identity. It denies our true Identity but does not change It in the least. Having accepted the ego’s denial, there is just one thing we must do. We must let go of its denial of Love. This is what forgiveness does.

Each judgment we forgive welcomes the Light of Love into our mind. We are grateful that we have been given the Holy Spirit to help us forgive our mistaken beliefs. With His help, we let the Light of Love fill our mind.

We Are Eternally Safe in God’s Love

I let forgiveness rest upon all things, for thus forgiveness will be given me.

I thank You, Father, for Your plan to save me from the hell I made. ²It is not real. ³And You have given me the means to prove its unreality to me. ⁴The key is in my hand, and I have reached the door beyond which lies the end of dreams. ⁵I stand before the gate of Heaven, wondering if I should enter in and be at home. ⁶Let me not wait again today. ⁷Let me forgive all things, and let creation be as You would have it be and as it is. ⁸Let me remember that I am Your Son, and opening the door at last, forget illusions in the blazing light of truth, as memory of You returns to me.

Brother, forgive me now. ²I come to you to take you home with me. ³And as we go, the world goes with us on our way to God. (A Course in Miracles, W-342. See also ACIM Lesson 342 Insights.)

Every one offers us the opportunity to forgive our misperceptions and join with him to return Home to the Heaven of God’s Love. We join with the truth in him that is the oneness of Love that keeps us eternally united with our Father.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us purify our minds of fear-based thoughts which deny the Love we are. With His help we will remember we are God’s one Son, held safely in the changelessness of His Love.

Finding a Tranquil State of Mind

First, [teachers of God] must go through what might be called “a period of undoing.” ²This need not be painful, but it usually is so experienced. ³It seems as if things are being taken away, and it is rarely understood initially that their lack of value is merely being recognized. ⁴How can lack of value be perceived unless the perceiver is in a position where he must see things in a different light?

…the teacher of God [must] understand that he did not really know what was valuable and what was valueless. ³All that he really learned so far was that he did not want the valueless, and that he did want the valuable. ⁴Yet his own sorting out was meaningless in teaching him the difference. ⁵The idea of sacrifice, so central to his own thought system, had made it impossible for him to judge. …⁸He must learn to lay all judgment aside, and ask only what he really wants in every circumstance.

…tranquility is their result; the outcome of honest learning, consistency of thought and full transfer. ⁵This is the stage of real peace, for here is Heaven’s state fully reflected. (A Course in Miracles, M-4.I-A.3:1-4;7:2-5,8;8:4-5)

The key to reaching a tranquil state of mind is relinquishing all judgment to the Holy Spirit. He knows the difference between illusions and reality; the ego does not. The practice of consistently asking for the Holy Spirit’s guidance is our way Home. By dedicating each day as we awake, and pausing when we can throughout the day to check in with Him, we will learn to distinguish what is valuable from what is valueless.

This practice of forgiveness opens our mind to Christ’s vision. We perceive a forgiven world, free of our projected judgments. As we forgive the world for all we thought it was, we forgive ourselves for our misperceptions. It is a journey of thought that leads to the tranquility of changeless Love.

Remembering the Love in Which We Live

The past is over. It can touch me not.

Unless the past is over in my mind, the real world must escape my sight. ²For I am really looking nowhere; seeing but what is not there. ³How can I then perceive the world forgiveness offers? ⁴This the past was made to hide, for this the world that can be looked on only now. ⁵It has no past. ⁶For what can be forgiven but the past, and if it is forgiven it is gone.

Father, let me not look upon a past that is not there. ²For You have offered me Your Own replacement, in a present world the past has left untouched and free of sin. ³Here is the end of guilt. ⁴And here am I made ready for Your final step. ⁵Shall I demand that You wait longer for Your Son to find the loveliness You planned to be the end of all his dreams and all his pain? Forgiveness is a gift we give to ourselves and the world. It releases the heavy baggage of past thoughts of guilt and fear. These thoughts are nothing more than stories in our mind that tell us of harm and loss. They are not true.

Nothing has happened to change God’s one Son from being the Love he was created to be. We are His Son. His universe of Love is our home, now and forever. To claim this gift, we need only let go of the baggage we bring from the past. It is a story that is not true based on illusions that could never be real.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us see the Love in which we live. We want to remember the Love of our brothers and our Father.

Accepting the Certainty of God’s Love

I will accept Atonement for myself.

Here is the end of choice. ²For here we come to a decision to accept ourselves as God created us. ³And what is choice except uncertainty of what we are? ⁴There is no doubt that is not rooted here. ⁵There is no question but reflects this one. ⁶There is no conflict that does not entail the single, simple question, “What am I?”

Yet who could ask this question except one who has refused to recognize himself?

Nothing the world believes is true. ²It is a place whose purpose is to be a home where those who claim they do not know themselves can come to question what it is they are. ³And they will come again until the time Atonement is accepted, and they learn it is impossible to doubt yourself, and not to be aware of what you are.

Only acceptance can be asked of you, for what you are is certain.

³I will accept Atonement for myself, for I remain as God created me.

⁴We have not lost the knowledge that God gave to us when He created us like Him. ⁵We can remember it for everyone, for in creation are all minds as one. (A Course in Miracles, W-139.1:1–2:1;7:1–8:1;11:2-5. See also ACIM Lesson 139 Insights.)

Accepting Atonement means we accept that we are Love and nothing else. We know that this is true for everyone because only Love is real. With this acceptance we are at peace, for we are certain nothing can change God’s eternal Love.

Accepting a Transformed Vision

My sight goes forth to look upon Christ’s face.

I ask Your blessing on my sight today. ²It is the means which You have chosen to become the way to show me my mistakes, and look beyond them. ³It is given me to find a new perception through the Guide You gave to me, and through His lessons to surpass perception and return to truth. ⁴I ask for the illusion which transcends all those I made. ⁵Today I choose to see a world forgiven, in which everyone shows me the face of Christ, and teaches me that what I look upon belongs to me; that nothing is, except Your holy Son.

Today our sight is blessed indeed. ²We share one vision, as we look upon the face of Him Whose Self is ours. ³We are one because of Him Who is the Son of God; of Him Who is our own Identity. (A Course in Miracles, W-269. See also ACIM Lesson 269 Insights.)

The ego uses the body as an instrument for judgment. First it sees itself as separate. Then it judges the body for what it seems to do and say. It judges what happens to the body and what bodies do to other bodies. This emphasis maintains fear and guilt. It blocks awareness of the oneness of God’s Love.

Today we are called to emphasize a different focus. Now we are to let the Holy Spirit help us recognize the Love beyond appearances of bodies. As we learn to see with the eyes of Christ, we see our unity. The appearance of bodies is looked past. The Holy Spirit helps us see that everyone is united with us in God’s Love.

Together we are God’s one Son. As we accept this vision, we see a transformed world.
