Releasing Our Perception of Problems

Think, then, how great your own release will be when you are willing to receive correction for all your problems. You will not keep one, for pain in any form you will not want. And you will see each little hurt resolved before the Holy Spirit’s gentle sight. For all of them are little in His sight, and worth no more than just a tiny sigh before they disappear, to be forever undone and unremembered. What seemed once to be a special problem, a mistake without a remedy, or an affliction without a cure, has been transformed into a universal blessing. Sacrifice is gone. And in its place the Love of God can be remembered, and will shine away all memory of sacrifice and loss.

God cannot be remembered until justice is loved instead of feared. He cannot be unjust to anyone or anything, because He knows that everything that is belongs to Him, and will forever be as He created it. Nothing He loves but must be sinless and beyond attack. Your special function opens wide the door beyond which is the memory of His Love kept perfectly intact and undefiled. And all you need to do is but to wish that Heaven be given you instead of hell, and every bolt and barrier that seems to hold the door securely barred and locked will merely fall away and disappear. For it is not your Father’s Will that you should offer or receive less than He gave, when He created you in perfect love. (A Course in Miracles, T-26.II.7-8. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

Heaven is the experience of oneness in changeless Love. Love is eternally extending Itself. The appearance of lack or loss of any kind is a misperception and therefore not true. The body and the world we experience through the body seems to make loss and lack real. We are released from this limited perception as we consistently practice handing all our perceived problems over to the Holy Spirit for a change in perception.

As we increase our willingness to step back and let our thoughts be transformed by the Holy Spirit, we remember we are safe because we are still Love, as God created us. In reality, nothing has happened to change the Self that God created one with Him.

Accepting Our True Identity

When “it can be but myself I crucify” is firmly understood and kept in full awareness, you will not attempt to harm yourself, nor make your body slave to vengeance. You will not attack yourself, and you will realize that to attack another is but to attack yourself. You will be free of the insane belief that to attack a brother saves yourself. And you will understand his safety is your own, and in his healing you are healed.

Today’s idea is one step we take in leading us from bondage to the state of perfect freedom. Let us take this step today, that we may quickly go the way salvation shows us, taking every step in its appointed sequence, as the mind relinquishes its burdens one by one. It is not time we need for this. It is but willingness. For what would seem to need a thousand years can easily be done in just one instant by the grace of God.

There is no Thought of God that does not go with you to help you reach that instant, and to go beyond it quickly, surely and forever. When the fear of God [Love’s oneness] is gone, there are no obstacles that still remain between you and the holy peace of God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 196, W-pI.196.1;4;12:1-2. Believing we are a separate identity contained in a body is an attack on the oneness of the Self God Created. To see a brother as a separate identity in a body is a reinforcement of our attack on the oneness of the Self God created. It is the perception of separate identities and separate forms that is an attack on the Reality of our one Self that is the Son of God. It is self crucifixion, “nailing” our Identity to the cross of separation.

The realization that we have done this to ourselves by preferring a separate identity to the unity of God’s Son gives us the freedom to let it go. We made the belief and we can change it. We can choose to accept our true Identity and be free.

The Holy Spirit, the Thought of God, is ever present in our mind to help us make this shift. We reclaim the strength and peace of God by letting the Holy Spirit show us the truth beyond our mistaken beliefs. We free ourselves by bringing all our perceptions to the Holy Spirit with willingness to see them anew. This is our journey Home to freedom and peace.

From Fear to Love, Guilt to Innocence

Trusting [the truth in] your brothers is essential to establishing and holding up your faith in your ability to transcend doubt and lack of sure conviction in yourself. When you attack a brother, you proclaim that he is limited by what you have perceived in him. You do not look beyond his errors. Rather, they are magnified, becoming blocks to your awareness of the Self that lies beyond your own mistakes, and past his seeming sins as well as yours.

Perception has a focus. It is this that gives consistency to what you see. Change but this focus, and what you behold will change accordingly. Your vision now will shift, to give support to the intent which has replaced the one you held before. Remove your focus on your brother’s sins, and you experience the peace that comes from faith in sinlessness. This faith receives its only sure support from what you see in others past their sins. For their mistakes, if focused on, are witnesses to sins in you. And you will not transcend their sight and see the sinlessness that lies beyond.

Therefore, in practicing today, we first let all such little focuses give way to our great need to let our sinlessness become apparent. We instruct our minds that it is this we seek, and only this, for just a little while. …We seek for innocence and nothing else. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 181, W-pI.181.1-3:2,5. If we want to be free of fear and guilt, we must shift our focus away from separation and sin to the oneness of Love. This means we must focus on accepting the Holy Spirit’s vision, which is the vision of our true Self. Our true Self is Love and nothing else, so It sees only Love in every brother.

Love is changeless and it is this that makes it worthy of our trust. As we learn to see with this vision, we recognize the trustworthy in every brother and learn that it is also in us. To focus on the Truth, we must let go of all thoughts of the past. Memories of the past are the ego’s defense against awakening to Love in the present moment.

As we shift our focus to the present moment, the Holy Spirit will help us let go of the past (forgive) and see the radiant Light of Love that shines everywhere in the eternal present. As we see this, we know we are safe and innocent in the Love of our Creator.

Blessings Come with Holy Spirit’s Vision

Judgment is but a toy, a whim, the senseless means to play the idle game of death in your imagination. But vision sets all things right, bringing them gently within the kindly sway of Heaven’s laws. What if you recognized this world is an hallucination? What if you really understood you made it up? What if you realized that those who seem to walk about in it, to sin and die, attack and murder and destroy themselves, are wholly unreal? Could you have faith in what you see, if you accepted this? And would you see it?

Hallucinations disappear when they are recognized for what they are. This is the healing and the remedy. Believe them not and they are gone. And all you need to do is recognize that you did this. Once you accept this simple fact and take unto yourself the power you gave [hallucinations], you are released from them. One thing is sure; hallucinations serve a purpose, and when that purpose is no longer held they disappear. Therefore, the question never is whether you want them, but always, do you want the purpose that they serve?

Only two purposes are possible. And one is sin [separation], the other holiness [unity]. Nothing is in between, and which you choose determines what you see. For what you see is merely how you elect to meet your goal. (A Course in Miracles, T-20.VIII.7:1-8:7;9:1-4. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

Judgment requires perception of differences. It separates off what is judged as different, making separation seem real. Judgment is the ego’s favorite toy because it justifies its seeming existence. The cost of playing with this toy is loss of awareness of our true Identity as Love and nothing else.

We have a choice between playing with the toy of judgment or accepting the Holy Spirit’s vision, which shows us the Love we share with everyone and everything. The choice for vision brings us the comfort of knowing we are loved without limit. It brings us the joy of sharing our Love with everyone. It brings us the certainty that nothing has changed God’s Son, our true Identity. We are truly invulnerable, for the Love and power of God is ours.

Claiming God’s Peace as Ours

Now will I seek and find the peace of God.

In peace I was created. And in peace do I remain. It is not given me to change my Self. How merciful is God my Father, that when He created me He gave me peace forever. Now I ask but to be what I am. And can this be denied me, when it is forever true?

Father, I seek the peace You gave as mine in my creation. What was given then must be here now, for my creation was apart from time, and still remains beyond all change. The peace in which Your Son was born into Your Mind is shining there unchanged. I am as You created me. I need but call on You to find the peace You gave. It is Your Will that gave it to Your Son. There is a saying about a child of a wealthy father, “He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.” We were born as Son of the Source of infinite abundance. He gave us all of Himself in our creation — all His peace, joy and Love. This is wealth beyond measure in the world, for it is not of the world.

We do not have to do anything or go anywhere to claim the peace that is our birthright. We simply need to stop trying to make a world of illusions that hides God’s gifts from our awareness. They are still there, unchanged, waiting for our acceptance.

Today we practice pausing in the midst of our doing in the world to remember the gifts that our ours. As we do this we remember our Identity as God’s Son, His Creation.

How to Be a Messenger of Love

[The Holy Spirit] Who has received for you the messages of God would have them be received by you as well. For thus do you identify with Him and claim your own.

It is this joining [with Holy Spirit] that we undertake to recognize today. We will not seek to keep our minds apart from Him Who speaks for us, for it is but our voice we hear as we attend Him. He alone can speak to us and for us, joining in one Voice the getting and the giving of God’s Word; the giving and receiving of His Will.

The world recedes as we light up our minds, and realize these holy words are true. They are the message sent to us today from our Creator. Now we demonstrate how they have changed our minds about ourselves, and what our function is. For as we prove that we accept no will we do not share, our many gifts from our Creator will spring to our sight and leap into our hands, and we will recognize what we received. We become a messenger of Love by accepting Holy Spirit’s guidance in our doing in the world. We need to redirect our attention from the ego’s mind set to listening within for the Holy Spirit’s [healing] inspiration. As we make the Holy Spirit our chosen Guide, He teaches us to be Love’s expression in the world.

It can appear as a smile as we pass by a stranger. It may be sharing a helpful idea for someone who has asked for help or it may be simply recognizing the truth of Love in our brother, with no overt form of demonstration. No matter what the circumstance,  the Holy Spirit first brings us to feel the Love of God within and express it in a form that is most helpful in the world.

This is what forgiveness does. By letting go of judgment, it opens the doors for Love to freely extend. By accepting the Love within and offering it to the world, we become messengers of Love.

We Are Safely At Home in Love

A meaningless world engenders fear. The totally insane engenders fear because it is completely undependable, and offers no grounds for trust. Nothing in madness is dependable. It holds out no safety and no hope. But such a world is not real. I have given it the illusion of reality, and have suffered from my belief in it. Now I choose to withdraw this belief, and place my trust in reality. In choosing this, I will escape all the effects of the world of fear, because I am acknowledging that it does not exist.

God did not create a meaningless world. How can a meaningless world exist if God did not create it? He is the Source of all meaning, and everything that is real is in His Mind. It is in my mind too, because He created [everything that is real] with me. Why should I continue to suffer from the effects of my own insane thoughts, when the perfection of creation is my home? Let me remember the power of my decision, and recognize where I really abide. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 53, W-pI.53:3-4. See also ACIM Lesson 53 Insights.)

It seems that we are really at the mercy of outside forces from the world, which we cannot control. Accidents happen. People seem to do helpful and harmful things unexpectedly. We try to arrange our world to our liking, yet our best efforts still leave us feeling out of control. This is because all our efforts to manipulate the world are focused on illusions, which obey no laws that would make them reliable.

Only what is changeless is reliable. The Love of God is changeless. We can be confident that all God’s Love and gifts are ours now because He gave them to His Son in His Creation. We have been given all that is Real. To know we have these gifts, we have to let go of our insistence on making the world’s illusions seem real. We have to give up our belief in the thought of separation from Love.

We already have the help we need to correct our mistaken beliefs. We need only choose the Holy Spirit as our Guide in all our thoughts and doing. As we let ourselves be taught to let go of the unreal and accept the real, changeless Love of God, we find peace. We remember we are Love and we are Loved. We remember we are at Home in the safety of Love.
