Accepting That Only Love Is Real

Do not be afraid to look within. The ego tells you all is black with guilt within you, and bids you not to look. Instead, it bids you look upon your brothers, and see the guilt in them. Yet this you cannot do without remaining blind. For those who see their brothers in the dark, and guilty in the dark in which they shroud them, are too afraid to look upon the light within. Within you is not what you believe is there, and what you put your faith in. Within you is the holy sign of perfect faith your Father has in you. He does not value you as you do. He knows Himself, and knows the truth in you. He knows there is no difference, for He knows not of differences. Can you see guilt where God knows there is perfect innocence? You can deny His knowledge, but you cannot change it. Look, then, upon the light He placed within you, and learn that what you feared was there has been replaced with love. Our Father knows us only as He created us. He sees no darkness in what he created. Our Father is pure Love and we are extensions of that pure Love.

Today our practice is to see ourselves as an extension of the pure Love of our Father. This practice is merely accepting of What we are eternally and What every brother is. Today we focus on accepting the truth and forgiving, or letting go of illusions that there could be anything different than the purity of God’s Love. God is pure Love, and therefore so is everyone. Today we accept the freedom and joy that come with merely accepting the Truth.

Returning Home to God’s Peace

We will be still and listen for the Voice of healing, which will cure all ills as one, restoring saneness to the Son of God. No voice but this can cure. Today we hear a single Voice which speaks to us of truth, where all illusions end, and peace returns to the eternal, quiet home of God.”

With nothing in our hands to which we cling, with lifted hearts and listening minds we pray:

Only salvation can be said to cure.
Speak to us, Father, that we may be healed.

And we will feel salvation cover us with soft protection, and with peace so deep that no illusion can disturb our minds, nor offer proof to us that it is real. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 140, W-pI.140.10:2-4;12:1-4. See also ACIM Lesson 140 Insights.)

The ego always has an agenda. At its core its purpose is to maintain separation from Love. The ego uses myriad forms to make separation and lovelessness appear to be real. As long as we identify with the ego, we will feel isolated and unloved. We seek to cure this “problem” by looking for love in all the wrong places and trying to find some other person or group to join with. This is always a mission of seeking but not finding real Love and oneness.

This is why we must come to the Spirit of Truth within with empty hands and an open heart to receive the gift that was given before time began. It is still ours to claim. No more seeking is needed. We need only accept our Father’s gift. His Voice will teach us to recognize the barriers we have made that hide His gifts from our awareness. As we are willing to be taught and accept the Holy Spirit’s lessons in truth, our barriers to Love will fade away. We will return to the peace of our Home in God.

The Path to Peace Beyond Words

Truth will correct all errors in my mind.

Begin by asking Him Who goes with you upon this undertaking that He be in your awareness as you go with Him. …It is your Self you ask to go with you, and how could He be absent where you are?

You speak to Him today, and make your pledge to let His function be fulfilled through you. To share His function is to share His joy. His confidence is with you, as you say:

Truth will correct all errors in my mind,
And I will rest in Him Who is my Self.

Then let Him lead you gently to the truth, which will envelop you and give you peace so deep and tranquil that you will return to the familiar world reluctantly.

And yet you will be glad to look again upon this world. For you will bring with you the promise of the changes which the truth that goes with you will carry to the world. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 107, W-pI.107.8:1,4;9:2-10:2. See also ACIM Lesson 107 Insights.)

What could be more peaceful than to rest in the Self that is one with God? All of God’s peace is ours. It cannot be disturbed, for God’s peace is changeless and eternal. This is our natural state. We were given it in our creation as God’s Thought.

When circumstances in the world seem to disturb our peace, we need to remind ourselves that what we are perceiving is an error. We need to reclaim the truth that is already in our mind, and the peace of God will return to our awareness. The truth will show us that the disturbing perception was an error. And it will naturally fade away into the nothingness from which it was made. The commitment to welcoming the truth in our minds is the path to peace beyond words.

Choosing God’s Thoughts Instead of My Own

This is salvation’s keynote: What I see reflects a process in my mind, which starts with my idea of what I want. From there, the mind makes up an image of the thing the mind desires, judges valuable, and therefore seeks to find. These images are then projected outward, looked upon, esteemed as real and guarded as one’s own. From insane wishes comes an insane world. From judgment comes a world condemned. And from forgiving thoughts a gentle world comes forth, with mercy for the holy Son of God, to offer him a kindly home where he can rest a while before he journeys on, and help his brothers walk ahead with him, and find the way to Heaven and to God.

Our Father, Your ideas reflect the truth, and mine apart from Yours but make up dreams. Let me behold what only Yours reflect, for Yours and Yours alone establish truth. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 325, W-pII.325.1-2. See also ACIM Lesson 325 Insights.)

A Course in Miracles is a course that teaches the difference between truth and illusions. Most of it focuses on helping us recognize illusions as illusions. Because the images of the world are coming from our mind, we believe they are real.

Some of the images we see in the world do not seem to come from our mind. They come from the collective ego mind we have identified as our own. Through what the Course calls “the quick forgetting,” we forget that these thoughts are coming from our ego-identified mind. This is the slight of hand that makes it appear that we are locked into the dream with no way out. Events in the dream seem to happen to us, beyond our control.

It’s really good news to learn that all images in the world are coming from our identification with the ego mind, which we have chosen. But we can choose again. We can choose to accept the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Who brings us God’s Thoughts of perfect Love to replace the ego’s thoughts that deny Love. This is the miracle the Course is teaching us.

Today is a day of opportunity to choose once again, to choose the guidance of the Holy Spirit to see through the eyes of Love. With this choice, this day will be a blessed day indeed.

Seeing Past Illusions to the Truth

Condemn and you are made a prisoner. Forgive and you are freed. Such is the law that rules perception. It is not a law that knowledge understands, for freedom is a part of knowledge. To condemn is thus impossible in truth. What seems to be its influence and its effects have not occurred at all. Yet must we deal with them a while as if they had. Illusion makes illusion. Except one. Forgiveness is illusion that is answer to the rest.

Forgiveness sweeps all other dreams away, and though it is itself a dream, it breeds no others. All illusions save this one must multiply a thousandfold. But this is where illusions end. Forgiveness is the end of dreams, because it is a dream of waking. It is not itself the truth. Yet does it point to where the truth must be, and gives direction with the certainty of God Himself. It is a dream in which the Son of God awakens to his Self and to his Father, knowing They are One. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 198, W-pI.198.2-3. See also ACIM Lesson 198 Insights.)

Judgment is the lynchpin that holds the dream of a world of separation together. Remove this one lynchpin fully and the world will crumble, ceasing to seem to be. This is why the Course’s greatest emphasis is on forgiveness.

Forgiveness is the key to release from all pain, suffering, guilt and fear. True forgiveness cannot be accomplished by ourselves alone. The idea that we are alone needs to be forgiven. To do this we need help from outside the belief system of being alone.

The Holy Spirit knows that we remain at one with our Creator and can never be alone in truth. If we are willing to bring all our thoughts of judgment, of being alone, of being vulnerable and capable of harm to the Holy Spirit, we open the door to release from the dream.

Today we are willing to be taught the Holy Spirit’s key lesson in perception: What is not Love is not real. We trust that He will help us see past illusions to this truth. And we give thanks.

Walking in Gratitude

Love is the way I walk in gratitude.

The Holy Spirit is my only Guide. He walks with me in love.
And I give thanks to Him for showing me the way to go.

I am not a body. I am free.
For I am still as God created me. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 215, W-pI.215.1. See also ACIM Lesson 215 Insights.)

Do we want to walk with a grateful heart? Do we want to live in a state of peace, free of conflict? Then we must be willing to let Love be our Guide moment by moment. There is no conflict in Love, for Love is one and sees only Itself everywhere.

These conditions do not seem to be our experience in the world. That is because the world was made to be a place where Love cannot enter. It’s all made up images, held in place by the wish to have a kingdom we can call our own, to be special. Because it’s all made up, we can let it go.

If we are willing to let Love be our Guide, we can learn to recognize that the images we have made are illusions. What we know as unreal we easily let go, making way for the reality of Love to enter.

As we go through our day today, we will ask, “How would Love see this? What would Love do?” As we welcome the answer, we will walk in gratitude.

The Path to Release from Hell

Forgiveness is this world’s equivalent of Heaven’s justice. It translates the world of sin into a simple world, where justice can be reflected from beyond the gate behind which total lack of limits lies. Nothing in boundless love could need forgiveness. And what is charity within the world gives way to simple justice past the gate that opens into Heaven. No one forgives unless he has believed in sin, and still believes that he has much to be forgiven. Forgiveness thus becomes the means by which he learns he has done nothing to forgive. Forgiveness always rests upon the one who offers it, until he sees himself as needing it no more. And thus is he returned to his real function of creating [extending Love], which his forgiveness offers him again.

What is unforgiveness but a barrier to Love’s extension? Judgment insists that what is judged is separate from the judge. Judgment can only seem to be justified within the ego thought system of separation. When oneness is accepted, there is no external “other” to judge.

This is why forgiveness is the path to release from the hell of separation. Forgiveness, as the Holy Spirit teaches, shows us that we have never really done anything to harm God or His Creation. Thus it acknowledges our innocence and the innocence of everyone.

In the dream it appears that there are others we must forgive. Yet when we forgive others, we discover we are forgiven, along with them. For in truth, the “other” is simply a reflection of our belief about ourselves.

Today we practice bringing all our opinions and judgments to the Holy Spirit with willingness to see that nothing has really occurred to change God’s one Son, our Self.
