Bringing God’s Peace to the World

We ask for rest today, and quietness unshaken by the world’s appearances. We ask for peace and stillness, in the midst of all the turmoil born of clashing dreams. We ask for safety and for happiness, although we seem to look on danger and on sorrow. And we have the thought that will answer our asking with what we request.

“I rest in God.” This thought will bring to you the rest and quiet, peace and stillness, and the safety and the happiness you seek.

Each hour that you take your rest [in God] today, a tired mind is suddenly made glad, a bird with broken wings begins to sing, a stream long dry begins to flow again. The world is born again each time you rest, and hourly remember that you came to bring the peace of God into the world, that it might take its rest along with you. We are all here to bring the peace of God into the world. There is no greater gift we could give, and it’s a gift we receive as we give.

When we perceive conflict and bring that perception to the Holy Spirit for His loving correction, we make way to give the peace of God to the world.

When we perceive guilt and let the Holy Spirit correct our misperception, we bring the gift of peace to the world.

When we experience fear and offer it to the Holy Spirit to let Him show us that we remain safe in God, we bring the peace of God to the world.

This is our practice for today.

Seeing Our Brother as Our Savior

Let us ask of Him Who knows this Son of God in his reality and truth, that we may look on him a different way, and see our savior shining in the light of true forgiveness, given unto us. We ask Him in the holy Name of God and of His Son, as holy as Himself:

Let me behold my savior in this one You have appointed as the one for me to ask to lead me to the holy light in which he stands, that I may join with him.

The body’s eyes are closed, and as you think of him who grieved you, let your mind be shown the light in him beyond your grievances.

What you have asked for cannot be denied. Your savior has been waiting long for this. He would be free, and make his freedom yours. The Holy Spirit leans from him to you, seeing no separation in God’s Son. And what you see through Him will free you both. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 78, W-pI.78.7:-8:5. Holy Spirit, I wish only to see the Truth today. I wish to see through Your eyes to the Truth of Love’s Presence everywhere.

I would not dwell on stories of separate bodies with separate interests, but remember the Truth behind the ego stories of separation and differences. The Christ really is all there is to see in Truth, and I am willing to receive the Truth from You today. As I do this, I see every brother as my savior.

We Are Safe

You may wonder how you can be at peace when, while you are in time, there is so much that must be done before the way to peace is open. Perhaps this seems impossible to you. But ask yourself if it is possible that God would have a plan for your salvation that does not work. Once you accept His plan as the one function that you would fulfill, there will be nothing else the Holy Spirit will not arrange for you without your effort. He will go before you making straight your path, and leaving in your way no stones to trip on, and no obstacles to bar your way. Nothing you need will be denied you. Not one seeming difficulty but will melt away before you reach it. You need take thought for nothing, careless of everything except the only purpose that you would fulfill. As that was given you, so will its fulfillment be. God’s guarantee will hold against all obstacles, for it rests on certainty and not contingency. It rests on you. And what can be more certain than a Son of God? (A Course in Miracles, T-20.IV.8. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

Beyond the ego’s self-made world of uncertainty and fear is the Universe of Love given us by God with the absolute guarantee that It will never be withheld. We are safe. We are Loved. We are the Love given us by our Creator, and we cannot lose It.

We can deny Its Presence and experience a loveless world, but beyond the veil of denial the sure protection of changeless Love is still present. We need only turn to the Voice for God within for help to change our mind, to let go of the false ideas that block awareness of Love’s presence. Today our practice is to be vigilant for the Voice for God.

The Singular Path to Freedom

My function here is to forgive the world for all the errors I have made. For thus am I released from them with all the world.

God’s Will is perfect happiness for me. And I can suffer but from the belief there is another will apart from His. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 115, W-pI.115.1:2-3;116.1:2-3. See also ACIM Lesson 115 Insights.)

We have been given the path to peace and freedom, along with the Guide to lead us. The path is narrow because its singular purpose is what makes it true. It is guaranteed to lead us Home. We need only choose to follow it.

The ego thought system of separation is the idea of having multiple choices. Yet if only truth is true, there is only one meaningful choice — to accept the truth. Because the ego is the denial of truth, it is incapable of leading us to truth. It will always choose diversions and detours off the path to truth.

Fortunately our only meaningful choice is available to us in every moment. We can always choose the Guide to Truth. This Guide will lighten the path that leads to the recognition that we remain Love as Love created us. We retain all Love’s attributes — peace, joy, innocence and unity with our Source and all Love’s Creation.

Today we practice opening to our Guide to truth, moment by moment so that our decisions lead us Home to peace.

We Put Holy Spirit in the Driver’s Seat

Forgiveness ends the dream of conflict here. Conflict must be resolved. It cannot be evaded, set aside, denied, disguised, seen somewhere else, called by another name, or hidden by deceit of any kind, if it would be escaped. It must be seen exactly as it is, where it is thought to be, in the reality which has been given it, and with the purpose that the mind accorded it. For only then are its defenses lifted, and the truth can shine upon it as it disappears.

Father, forgiveness is the light You chose to shine away all conflict and all doubt, and light the way for our return to You. No light but this can end our evil dream. No light but this can save the world. For this alone will never fail in anything, being Your gift to Your beloved Son. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 333, W-pII.333. We have been given the ultimate gift — the means to free ourselves from the bondage of fear and guilt. This gift was given to us by our loving Creator Whose compassion does not want His Creation to suffer. Forgiveness is the means. The Holy Spirit, our True Self, is the Guide we must follow to learn to truly forgive.

True forgiveness comes with the recognition that in truth, nothing in the world we perceive can change what we were created to be. Nothing can change the Love we and all our brothers are. Constant extension of Love is our natural state of being. Forgiveness clears the way for us to be what we have always been, free of self deception and limitation.

Today we choose to put the Holy Spirit in the driver’s seat on our journey of awakening. We yield our perceptions to Him with willingness to receive His vision. His Light will shine away all conflict and we will remember that we have always been united in one Love.

Leave Correction to the Holy Spirit

Correction must be left to One Who knows correction and forgiveness are the same. With half a mind this is not understood. Leave, then, correction to the Mind that is united, functioning as one because it is not split in purpose, and conceives a single function as its only one.… In His acceptance of this function lies the means whereby your mind is unified. His single purpose unifies the halves of you that you perceive as separate. And each forgives the other, that he may accept his other half as part of him. (A Course in Miracles, T-27.II.16:1-3,5-7. Today we consistently step back and let the Holy Spirit correct our mind of its mistaken thoughts of separation. The Holy Spirit’s correction always returns us to recognizing Love’s Oneness.

As we practice receiving Holy Spirit’s lessons in forgiveness, we heal and are healed. Peace returns to our troubled minds. All this comes as we consistently practice leaving correction to the Holy Spirit all through the day.

See Past Error to Eternal Truth

Trusting [in the truth of] your brothers is essential to establishing and holding up your faith in your ability to transcend doubt and lack of sure conviction in yourself. When you attack a brother, you proclaim that he is limited by what you have perceived in him. You do not look beyond his errors. Rather, they are magnified, becoming blocks to your awareness of the Self that lies beyond your own mistakes, and past his seeming sins as well as yours.

Perception has a focus [ego or Holy Spirit]. It is this that gives consistency to what you see. Change but this focus, and what you behold will change accordingly.… Remove your focus on your brother’s sins, and you experience the peace that comes from faith in sinlessness.… For their mistakes, if focused on, are witnesses to sins in you. And you will not transcend their sight and see the sinlessness that lies beyond. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 181, W-pI.181.1;2:1-3,5,7-8. See also ACIM Lesson 181 Insights.)

We cannot see guilt in others without believing we are guilty. Likewise, as we let the Holy Spirit show us the changeless Love in our brothers, beyond appearances, we recognize the changeless Love in ourselves.

The practice of bringing all our perceptions to the Holy Spirit with willingness to be shown the changeless Love beyond appearances is how we forgive the world and ourselves. Each time we remember to do this, we take a step closer to seeing the real world of perfect innocence and changeless Love.

Today is dedicated to this practice.
