Step Back, Let Go, Let Spirit Flow

Mary:
In our reading this morning, this is what stood out to me: “Let me not see an illusion of myself in this. As I look on this, let me remember my Creator. My Creator did not create this as I see it.” (W-pI.84.2:2-4)

These three sentences can be very helpful for me to remember to allow the veil to be lifted by the Holy Spirit as I focus on different tasks during the day. I’m being encouraged in this lesson to see past illusion to the truth in every circumstance. I’m being encouraged not to exclude somethings from Holy Spirit’s beneficent Light. My prayer today is that I make best use of the day by allowing myself to see everything as my Creator sees it. This is good practice in letting go and letting God and returns me to my true function.

Robert:
Yesterday I was asked to step back and let Holy Spirit lead the way. The results of this practice were inspired and inspiring.

I was working on a video project. As I focused from a place of peace and openness, thoughts came into my mind that led me to try things I have never done before. The end result was beyond what I had imagined could be done. It came together with ease and a natural flow.

This experience inspires me to keep practicing. When I let go of my own agenda, I am gracefully led every step of the way. I learned that I don’t need to rely on my engineer mind that analyzes the past to devise a solution to a perceived need. These efforts on my own simply extend the struggle and repeat the past in another form. But when I step back and let Spirit lead the way, the graceful flow teaches me the value of making no decisions on my own. It teaches me that my salvation is in following Love’s Presence, which always uses every circumstance as an expression of Love.

Today again I will practice stepping back and letting Love lead the way.

Opening to Your Constant Companion

Holy Spirit to Mary:
Remember you are not alone. You have a constant Companion Who goes with you wherever you go. Practice opening to your constant Companion and receiving the gifts of peace and Love. Practice listening in quiet today.

Holy Spirit to Robert:
Today practice stepping back to let Me lead the way. Let Me guide your thoughts, your words, your actions. I will use them to extend the Love that is your Self. And you will see the Love reflected back, reminding you of What you are. You teach yourself that you are Love by expressing Love in all your doing. You do this by letting Me lead the way. Together we will have a day of joyous Love and laughter.

Learning to Distinguish Hell from Heaven

Robert:
No matter what the appearance of my activities in the world, there is only one underlying purpose the Holy Spirit sees in it: It is a means for undoing or forgiving the past. When only the loving thoughts of the past are remembered, forgiveness is complete. It is then just one small step across the bridge to Heaven.

As I look at my day to day experiences, I see that each moment offers an opportunity to see it overlaid with my past experiences, and thus not see it as it is, or to accept Holy Spirit’s vision of it. With Holy Spirit’s vision I see it as it is, clean and free of the past, shining in the Light of Love. One choice repeats hell. The other choice leads to Heaven. H-m-m… which would I rather have?

It is surprising how often I choose hell because I see something I value more than Heaven. I am grateful for Holy Spirit’s curriculum that gently and consistently teaches me to distinguish the thoughts that make hell seem appealing from the gift that Heaven is. I am blessed with another day to learn Holy Spirit’s lessons.

Holy Spirit to Mary:
Stay in the now moment… Relax… and be open to the truth. Let yourself remember that only Love is real… Let everything but Love be washed away… Practice receiving the truth with Me today… Practice receiving My happiness and joy.

Patience and Gentleness

Robert:
Today we read in the Manual for Teachers of A Course in Miracles, “Patience is natural to those who trust.” (M-4.VIII.1:9) A clear sign of impatience is when I get into making my own plans for the future — making plans for what I think should happen. Making plans on my own is placing my trust in my own strength. The Course tells me that I have every reason to be apprehensive and fearful if I do this because “my own strength” means I think I am on my own alone and separate from Love’s strength.

If I believe I am separate from Love’s strength, then I must believe I am weak, because there is no strength but Love’s. So the attraction to planning on my own is stimulated by belief in weakness — separation from Strength. So it all comes back once again to one problem, one solution. The problem is believing I am separate from my Source. The answer is letting go of that belief (forgiving) and accepting my Self as Love created It.

Today I will remind myself frequently that I am as God created me, safe and whole and united with my Source. If I seem to see an image that does not reflect the quiet certainty of Love, I will remind myself that beyond this image is the certainty of Love.

Mary:
Today my job is to open my mind to the Holy Spirit’s gentle lessons of forgiveness. If I am willing, the Holy Spirit will lift the veil, showing me past illusions to the truth. There I will see that only Love is there.

If I think I am seeing something other than Love, my job today is to once again open to the Holy Spirit to be shown the truth once again. The Holy Spirit is present in my mind to help me choose once again as long as I have need of It. And I do have need of it if ever I think that something other than Love is there to see.

I give thanks to my constant Companion, Who has eternal patience with my mind wanderings. Thank you Holy Spirit. Thank you.

Love Is Ever-Present

Mary:
In our reading in A Course in Miracles this morning, the sentence that stood out to me is, “And Love is ever-present, here and now.” (W-pII.308.1:9) It amazes me how often I forget this truth. It still seems so easy to think that something else is there. I still seem to want to see illusions instead of remembering the truth.

Now I am learning that time is for reversing this desire to make illusions real. Forgiveness is a complete thought reversal. Forgiveness is letting go of my desire to replace God with images of individuality and separation. Watching the thoughts that arise in my mind and, with the help of Holy Spirit, recognizing them for what they are is the way I allow this thought reversal to be accomplished. This is how I remember that… “Love is ever-present, here and now.”

When I go deeply into the feeling of these words, I am able to experience the Love that is ever-present. I am able to accept and extend this all-encompassing Love. This is the truth. My prayer now is to retain this remembering in my mind. And when a thought that does not reflect this comes up, to laugh with Holy Spirit instead of taking the thought seriously. This is my practice today, to hold in my mind that … “Love is ever-present, here and now.”

Robert:
I am grateful that we are not alone in our journey of awakening. We each have mighty companions, seen and unseen, Who walk beside us, sharing in the awakening, sharing in the forgiveness, sharing in the willingness to let Love lead the way. It does not matter whether we think we are just taking a faltering first step on the journey or feel that we have come far along the way. We each have the help we need in the present moment.

My job is to be willing to receive the ever-present Love that surrounds me and walks with me. When I hold my mind and heart open, I see the Love in a “stranger” walking down the street, a clerk in the grocery store, a dear friend or an image on a television screen. Love is always there to be seen. It only takes my willingness to recognize the mighty companion Who is there to reflect it and thus show me the Love that I am. My prayer today is to hold my mind and heart open to see the Love everywhere.

Holy Spirit’s Presence

Robert:
Today I read in the Song of Prayer:

Prayer for specifics always asks to have the past repeated in some way. What was enjoyed before, or seem to be; what was another’s and he seemed to love,—all these are but illusions from the past. The aim of prayer is to release the present from its chains of past illusions; to let it be a freely chosen remedy from every choice that stood for a mistake. (S-1.IV.3:3-5)

I see that attempting to make plans on my own is like praying for things. It is attempting to build a future that in some way repeats the past. Since my “learning” from the past is severely limited, my own attempts to plan are confined by this limitation. This is why it is essential that I make no plans on my own. I want to release the present from the chains of the past. Another way to say this is that I want to move out of the box of my limited awareness.

Today I ask the Holy Spirit to help me release the past and open to His limitless vision. This is how I will serve the awakening. This is how I will experience true happiness. I am grateful for the Holy Spirit’s presence in my mind that is the means for my release.

Mary:
My prayer today is to be aware of the presence of the Holy Spirit in my mind. Choosing peace and allowing peace to return to my mind paves the way to opening my mind to the Holy Spirit’s healing Light.

Here I find rest. Here I am comforted. Here I remember that everything is all right. Here I am told everything I need to know in the present moment to heal my mind. I give thanks for the gift I receive from the Holy Spirit. Amen.

If It Is Not Love, It Is an Illusion

Robert:
The ego is terrified of now. Its only seeming anchor is the past. But now cannot be experienced with the past. Without the past the ego feels helpless and hopeless. It tries to imagine the future built upon the past. it builds complex plans in which it weaves past learning into an image that it believes will make it safe.

But none of this can be brought into the now moment because now is completely free of the past. Clean and pure, it contains all of Creation, all of Love. Because Love is changeless, the only place eternal safety can be found is in the present, eternal now. If I would experience the changeless peace of God, I must be willing to lay down the ego’s frantic efforts to plan for safety. The ego knows not of safety because it is the denial of the changeless.

Though I am tempted to join with the ego’s planning, I must remember that the ego is not me. I am the Self that Love created, changeless as Itself, eternally safe. When I feel helpless, concerned, uncertain, it is just a signal that I am believing in a false image of myself. It is a signal for me to offer this image to the Holy Spirit to be purified and transformed. As I accept the Holy Spirit’s clear vision, I remember my Self and the safety of my Home.

Mary:
We are working with a group on Saturday mornings. The purpose of our weekly gathering is to reinforce our process of awakening as we go deeply into the message of the booklet, The Song of Prayer. As I daily work on the practice of awakening from the dream, I am learning to ask myself frequently, “What am I praying for right now?” Am I feeling that I am vulnerable and alone and in need of something? If so, then I am at the bottom of the ladder of prayer, asking for something (some form) that I think I need. Am I remembering that I am pure Spirit, joined with all that is and in need of nothing? Then I simply rejoice that I have all that I need and am in full gratitude that I am one with all of God’s gifts.

During the day as I watch where I am on the ladder of prayer, I see clearly that I am always praying. Am I willing to remember the truth today? When I see that I have forgotten one more time, a habit that I am reinforcing is to once again choose peace, which is the condition to becoming aware of Love’s Presence. For me, choosing peace is the gateway to returning to the awareness of the truth — that if it is not Love, it is an illusion. The good news is that behind every illusion, as the veil is lifted through my willingness, only Love is there.

As I practice remembering this again and again, I give thanks. I do not go Home alone. Everyone is there with me in Heaven, Where we all reside. Remembering this is my prayer today.
