Peace Is Our Power

Your little part is but to give the Holy Spirit the whole idea of sacrifice. And to accept the peace He gives instead, without the limits that would hold its extension back, and so would limit your awareness of [peace]. For what He gives must be extended if you would have its limitless power, and use it for the Son of God’s release.

Faith in the eternal is always justified, for the eternal is forever kind, infinite in its patience and wholly loving. It will accept you wholly, and give you peace. Yet it can unite only with what already is at peace in you, immortal as itself. The body can bring you neither peace nor turmoil; neither joy nor pain. It is a means, and not an end. It has no purpose of itself, but only what is given to it. The body will seem to be whatever is the means for reaching the goal that you assign to it. Only the mind can set a purpose, and only the mind can see the means for its accomplishment, and justify its use. Peace and guilt are both conditions of the mind, to be attained. And these conditions [peace or guilt] are the home of the emotion [love or fear] that calls them forth, and therefore is compatible with [peace or guilt]. Our true Self is eternally united with the Source of Love’s power. Peace is an attribute of Love and therefore has all Its power. If we feel vulnerable or fearful, we have denied our Self by believing we are a false image of our self. This false image is manifested in the world as a body.

Only the body can appear to harm or be harmed. Mind cannot harm but mind can give the purpose of harm to the body. When we identify with a body, we believe we are capable of harm. It is only our belief that we are a body that brings us fear and guilt. The Holy Spirit reminds us that we are not a body and remain Love as Love created us. He reminds us of our natural condition of peace, an attribute of Love.

When we choose to accept the Holy Spirit’s purpose for the body, the body becomes a means to extend peace to the world. Instead of following the ego’s dictates to see guilt, the Holy Spirit guides us to answer calls for Love with Love. As Love is extended, peace comes with it. The power of Love is the power to bring peace to the world, for it is the power to see that only Love is real and conflict is impossible.

Remembering the Christ in Everyone

You are as God created you. Today honor your Self.

Seek [the holy Christ in you] today, and find Him. He will be your Savior from all idols you have made. For when you find Him, you will understand how worthless are your idols, and how false the images which you believed were you. Today we make a great advance to truth by letting idols go, and opening our hands and hearts and minds to God today.

We will remember Him throughout the day with thankful hearts and loving thoughts for all who meet with us today. For it is thus that we remember Him. And we will say, that we may be reminded of His Son, our holy Self, the Christ in each of us:

I am as God created me.

Let us declare this truth as often as we can. This is the Word of God that sets you free. This is the key that opens up the gate of Heaven, and that lets you enter in the peace of God and His eternity.” (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 110, W-pI.110.9:1-2;10-11. Whenever we are not in perfect peace, we are believing in an idol, a false image, that blinds us to the presence of changeless Love. The Christ in us is the changeless Love that God created us to be. Love is perfectly secure in Its changelessness so Its peace cannot be disturbed.

Affirming “I am as God created me” reminds us of the changeless Love we are. It reminds us of the Love that is every brother. It reminds us of the Heaven that is our Home. Each time we make this affirmation, we open our minds to the certainty of the holy Christ that is in everyone. As we welcome this memory of God more and more, we experience more of His joy and peace. It’s worth the practice.

Bringing Release to Ourself and Our Brothers

…forgiveness, taught and learned, brings with it the experiences which bear witness that the time the mind itself determined to abandon all but this is now at hand.

Suffice it, then, that you have work to do to play your part. …For your part is still what all the rest depends on. As you take the role assigned to you, salvation comes a little nearer each uncertain heart that does not beat as yet in tune with God.

Forgiveness is the central theme that runs throughout salvation, holding all its parts in meaningful relationships, the course it runs directed and its outcome sure. And now we ask for grace, the final gift salvation can bestow. Experience that grace provides will end in time, for grace foreshadows Heaven….

What is the face of Christ but his who went a moment into timelessness, and brought a clear reflection of the unity he felt an instant back to bless the world? How could you finally attain to it forever, while a part of you remains outside, unknowing, unawakened, and in need of you as witness to the truth?

Forgiveness is the role assigned to everyone who believes they are alone in a world of separation. The forms of forgiveness is the special function that is unique for each of us. We each have our own set of beliefs that influence our perceptions in a dream of separation. It is these beliefs we must forgive through the help of the Holy Spirit.

When we have achieved true forgiveness of a mistaken belief that has brought us fear and guilt, the release changes the way we see the world. With each release, the oneness of Love beyond every form is seen and felt more clearly. We respond differently to circumstances in our experience. And our enlightened response extends the lesson we have learned. The ongoing practice of this process is our role in which we bring salvation to our brothers, who are one with us.

Pause and Let Love Lead the Way

The world is false perception. It is born of error, and it has not left its source. It will remain no longer than the thought that gave it birth is cherished. When the thought of separation has been changed to one of true forgiveness, will the world be seen in quite another light; and one which leads to truth, where all the world must disappear and all its errors vanish.

As sight was made to lead away from truth, it can be redirected. Sounds become the call for God, and all perception can be given a new purpose by the One Whom God appointed Savior to the world. Follow His light, and see the world as He beholds it. Hear His Voice alone in all that speaks to you. And let Him give you peace and certainty, which you have thrown away, but Heaven has preserved for you in Him. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 241, W-pII.3.1:1-4;4:1-5. The Course tells us to ask of everything, “What is it for?” The core purpose we choose in every moment is between reinforcing the seeming reality of separation or accepting Love’s purpose to extend Love and nothing else. Since only Love is real, only Love’s purpose has any real effect. The ego’s purpose always reinforces the illusion of separation, but it has no effect whatsoever on Reality.

The body and its senses were made by the ego for the purpose of reinforcing belief in separation. The body is incapable of perceiving anything without form. Its limited perception excludes awareness of Love, which has no form. But the body can be given another purpose by the Holy Spirit.

As we accept the Holy Spirit’s purpose, we recognize the calls for Love in the world and respond with Love instead of defensiveness and attack. Thus every event in our lives becomes an opportunity to apply the Holy Spirit’s purpose. If we pause and ask of every perception, “How would Love see this?” Holy Spirit will inspire us with Christ’s vision. Our response to this vision will bring healing to ourselves and our brothers. Thoughts of guilt and fear will fade away. We may be led to some action in the world or we may simply experience increasing peace and joy as we see Love everywhere. Today we choose to let Love lead the way.

The Holy Spirit Is Our Guide to Joy

The Love of God is what created me. The Love of God is
everything I am. The Love of God proclaimed me as His
Son. The Love of God within me sets me free.

Pain is my own idea. It is not a Thought of God, but one I
thought apart from Him and from His Will. His Will is joy,
and only joy for His beloved Son. And that I choose, instead
of what I made.

In silence and in true humility I seek God’s glory, to behold
it in the Son whom He created as my Self.

I seek the function that would set me free from all the vain
illusions of the world. Only the function God has given me
can offer freedom. Only this I seek, and only this will I

If the Love of God is everything we are as His Son, then our only function is to extend Love. In the dream of separation the reflection of our true function is forgiveness. Forgiveness makes way for Love that we are to naturally extend.

Whenever our peace is disturbed in any way, there is a need to forgive. We need the Holy Spirit’s help to show us that what seems to disturb us has no substance and cannot change the truth of What we are. As we practice being alert to any disturbance of our peace and bringing it to the Holy Spirit, we clear away the self-made barriers to our extension of Love. This is our function every day and every moment of our day. This is how we accept God’s gift of joy.

Today we choose to walk with the Holy Spirit as our Guide to joy.

Choosing to Have a Happy Day

How happy would your dreams become if you were not the one who gave the “proper” role to every figure which the dream contains. No one can fail but your idea of him, and there is no betrayal but of this. The core of dreams the Holy Spirit gives is never one of fear. The coverings [forms] may not appear to change, but what they mean has changed because they cover something else. Perceptions are determined by their purpose, in that they seem to be what they are for. A shadow figure who attacks becomes a brother giving you a chance to help, if this becomes the function of the dream. And dreams of sadness thus are turned to joy.

What is your brother for? You do not know, because your function is obscure to you. Do not ascribe a role to him that you imagine would bring happiness to you. And do not try to hurt him when he fails to take the part that you assigned to him, in what you dream your life was meant to be. He asks for help in every dream he has, and you have help to give him if you see the function of the dream as [the Holy Spirit] perceives its function, Who can utilize all dreams as means to serve the function given Him. Because He loves the dreamer, not the dream, each dream becomes an offering of love. For at its center is His Love for you, which lights whatever form it takes with love. Think of how joyful your life would be if you perceived everything with the Light of Love. There would be no fear nor sadness. There would be only the happy extension of Love as you join with the Love in your brother and answer his calls for Love with Love. This is what we will experience if we let the Holy Spirit’s purpose replace the purpose we give the figures in our dreams of separation.

Because we believe that we are separate from Love, we believe we have a need to fill the lack of Love we feel. We imagine myriad forms that might satisfy the need we believe we have, but none succeed because the need itself is imagined and therefore unreal. Our only need is to be the Love we were created to be. This is the will we share with God. As we accept the Love we are, joy becomes our companion in all things, always.

Today we choose the Holy Spirit’s purpose as our own because today we choose to have a happy day.

The Holy Spirit’s Happy Lessons

I follow in the way appointed me.

I have a special place to fill; a role for me alone. Salvation waits until I take this part as what I choose to do. Until I make this choice, I am the slave of time and human destiny. But when I willingly and gladly go the way my Father’s plan appointed me to go, then will I recognize salvation is already here, already given all my brothers and already mine as well.

Father, Your way is what I choose today. Where it would lead me do I choose to go; what it would have me do I choose to do. Your way is certain, and the end secure. The memory of You awaits me there. And all my sorrows end in Your embrace, which You have promised to Your Son, who thought mistakenly that he had wandered from the sure protection of Your loving Arms. God’s Will for us is perfect happiness. His plan for us leads us to accept the perfect happiness that has already been given us. In every moment we choose between God’s plan for our happiness or the ego’s plan that denies our happiness and the presence of Love.

The ego is afraid of God’s plan because if we accept it, it would be the end of the ego. So the ego offers us all kinds of trinkets and schemes as substitutes for God’s Love. Sometimes they give us temporary satisfaction, but they are soon recognized as empty and unfulfilling.

Our special function is to forgive or let go of the beliefs we have accepted as true in place of the oneness of God’s Love. Every moment of every day is a learning opportunity. If we follow the Holy Spirit’s lessons, we will learn to recognize the ego’s empty and meaningless substitutes for Love and pass them by. We will learn that we remain Love’s extension and nothing else. We will learn that we do not need to seek for Love because we already are Love. This is God’s plan for each of us — a progression of lessons that lead us to the perfect happiness God wills for us.
