The following is an excerpt from WNYHOO — NOW! Inspiring to Serve Love. WNYHOO is the World Needs Your Help One-to-One — NOW! Our purpose is To Be Truly Helpful. In giving over the cubicle thoughts of the cubicle self mind (ego) to our Inspiring Self Mind, we experience Inspiration. In extending Inspiration, we experience being out of the cubicle self mind and back into Reality! Reading and listening to Inspiring to Serve Love is a wild ride and requires willingness to do the WNYHOO: Step back, step aside and let your Inspiring Self guide! Here goes…
LAB EXPERIMENTS
Once in Time . . .
Imagine the world to be a huge laboratory for the experiment of artificial life. The cubicle self mind does not truly experiment, it gambles, addicted to the cycle of winning and losing. It is like a mad scientist in its cubicle laboratory, spilling chemicals, causing explosions, concocting potions with a limited time span. Eventually the magic wears off and the carriage turns back into a pumpkin and Cinderella has to go back to living with her evil step sisters, waiting again for prince charming to save her from such a lowly existence. It’s back to gambling with its magic. Woe is me.
Or… The cubicle self mind develops the greatest self-defense system known to humankings — an elaborate formula with a special secret ingredient kept locked in a steel foolproof safe, the safe’s code is only known by the mad scientist himself and his twin assistant. The mad scientist sells the “cubicle self-defense system” to the highest bidder in the land in exchange for the assurance of his personal safety and that of his twin. As soon as he sold the cubicle defense system, a civil war broke out in the land of the highest bidder of which the mad scientist was now a citizen along with his twin assistant.
What now? The civil war appears to be between the northern hemisphere mind and the southern hemisphere mind. You see the cubicle self mind and his twin decided to take a protected vacation home in the southern hemisphere lounging under the fiery heat of the sun in an attempt to defrost their cold, cold hearts. It seems their hearts had become frozen due to lengthy days and nights, year after year after year in the laboratory making the “cubicle self-defense” system. It turns out the special secret ingredient had a side effect unbeknownst to the mad scientist and his twin assistant. A side effect I might add, not listed on the package — a cold heart becoming colder over time eventually leading to a frozen heart!
Anyway, it turns out that the highest bidder in the land lived in the northern hemisphere mind and had every intention of finally making use of the cubicle self-defense system on the humankings of its own little kingdom, including the southern hemisphere mind thinkers.
No one was sure what exactly the civil war was about except that one day the highest bidder was now owner of the cubicle self-defense system. He apparently kept the cubicle self-defense system close by his side day and night to maintain its safekeeping. Then one day he came down with a cubicle sickness, an odd flu. Instead of the typical high temperature we normally see along with other symptoms of the flu, the highest bidder in the land had a steadily dropping temperature! The doctors were confounded! No matter how much heat the owner of the cubicle self-defense system was exposed to, his temperature kept dropping. Medical personnel suggested he move to the southern hemisphere for basking in the heat of the sun. Of course this was not an option as he had already declared war on the southern hemisphere thinkers; he couldn’t switch sides now.
Realizing his death was eminent and not wanting to die alone, the highest bidder in the land crawled to the foolproof safe to obtain his greatest possession. He enters the foolproof code: I a m a l o n e that activates the cubicle self-defense system to destroy the entire world.
Meanwhile, the maker of the cubicle self-defense system and his twin had died, for their hearts literally froze to death. Upon his death bed the highest bidder in the land and owner of the esteemed and sought after cubicle self-defense system lay there shivering in hopelessness and clothed in layers of despair. For all of his plans to rule the world had fallen out of his daily planner and into his bedpan and his platinum watch was running out of time.
Still alive and barely breathing, in the space between two breaths, he cries out for help. A servant comes to his side. “Yes,” said the servant, “How may I be truly helpful?” “Who are you?” bellowed the weakened owner of the cubicle self-defense system. “I am your Greeter Within,” responded the helper. “I heard the sound of willingness; It is the only sound I know, so here I am.”
The Greeter Within stood before him, carrying a brilliant glass door with a light so bright it blinded the sight of the owner of the cubicle self-defense system, who cringed in its presence. Though unable to see the Greeter Within or the radiant door with its own eyes, the cubicle self mind began gasping for air. Feeling its very existence being threatened, it yelled out haphazardly to no one, “Get that thing out of here. Who do you think you are?” lashing out in its darkness.
“You do not remember me,” spoke the Greeter Within, “for you have been in a deep sleep in the land of the cubicle self mind and I live in the entrance to the land of the Inspiring Self Mind. Yet in the space between is the Land of Willingness. I heard willingness call and I respond to every sound of willingness.” The access code of W I L L I N G N E S S having been entered, the Greeter Within opened the Door of Light to the Land of the Inspiring Self (I.S.) Mind. The man who once believed himself to be owner of the cubicle mind now saw himself – “Oh, I am innocent,” he whispered gleefully.
Inspiration flowing freely, the cubicle self mind forgot to think about itself. Without any cubicle thoughts for food, it simply began withering away. With fits of unwillingness came cubicle thoughts for food. Yet every time the sound of willingness calls between the breaths, the Greeter Within appears and opens the door to the I.S. Mind, reminding all of innocence, thus sharing eternally by being truly helpful. All the while, the cubicle self simply ran out of thoughts with which to sustain itself, never to exist again.
Behold a Life of Inspiration — the Inspiring Self Mind, inspiring to serve Love in the Land of Inspiration. Now, the I.S. Mind does not need to experiment because it already knows what works and what doesn’t, being that It has a direct connection to Inspiration. However, we do need a lot of practice experimenting with willingness. So where does willingness come from? The Greeter Within, who is the 24/7 door person standing at the door of our I.S. Mind, always ready to open the door in every moment that our heart is willing to open. To be continued….

We would like to share with you about a recent significant event in our lives. We received a copy of the new book published by Project Healing Press: The Book ON… and Jesus answers.
It is scribed by Joel Wright, who made his transition just before the book was published. The publishers are John Hutkin and Rev. Mary Gerard Lenihan, who are long time students of A Course in Miracles. Mary is also a Pathways of Light minister and member of the Pathways of Light Advisory Council. Mary wrote the healing book, The Mentor Within, which was one of the gifts of gratitude given to Pathways of Light members this past year.
As we read the first few pages of The Book ON… and Jesus answers, we were struck by its inspiring simplicity, powerful clarity and its consistency with the thought system of A Course in Miracles. In his remarkable book, Jesus gives us understandable answers to questions commonly asked about religion, spirituality and the purpose of relationships. He also talks about many other topics such as other lives and worlds, money, abortion, sexuality, world peace, euthanasia and suicide, global warming and more.
In the book’s introduction, Jesus states: “A Course in Miracles is a book that is solely designed for undoing the mind’s fear, and returning it to the awareness of Love from which it came. The Mirror On Still Water* followed, and offers practical guidance to those seeking to apply spiritual principles and listen to the Holy Spirit within the seeming complication of the world’s setting. The Book ON… still furthers this practical assistance, but with a more direct and specific wisdom for bringing about true peace in the world, not for a few but for the many.”
When we started reading this important book together, we could hardly put it down. We feel this important message from Jesus has taken us to an entirely new level of willingness to be awakened to the Truth. As we work on applying this in our lives, we have had many questions about the timing and details of our move to Florida. For the past few months we have been told repeatedly to stay in the now moment and listen. We see that one of the most important lessons with every step of this whole process is to step back and let Holy Spirit’s plan unfold in the moment. Following is an excerpt from the book that we found very meaningful.
“Your heart is defined as pure as God’s Love because it is God’s Love. You are much more immense than you can see, child of God’s grandeur! The limits of the body are but illusions that with simple training you can easily transcend.
“But you must leave the past and future to me entirely. You can still make future plans, but do not live in these plans or by them. Leave the future to what Love will bring to you next. It is that simple.
“Keep your heart open and the mind will follow, rather than the heart following the mind. The mind is a terrifying leader. The heart is a minister to peace. Listen and know the difference.
“Miracle workers are in short supply and in huge demand. Choose, then, to join with God and Christ on Their mission to forget the world and remember Heaven. Ask the Holy Spirit in every decision and happiness cannot fail. Bringers of humility and true peace, be glad! Your return Home cannot fail. It is God’s mission to have you remember and learn of Heaven together.” (found on page 244)
This book can help you with the practice of forgiveness that leads to joy.
We feel that it is significant that The Book ON… and Jesus answers became available to us as we enter 2009 in the face of all the seeming problems that appear now in the world. The fear that has been stimulated can be healed with the practice of forgiveness encouraged by Jesus in this book. The consistent practice of forgiveness can make this year a year of joy. It is our choice.
This book is a great additional resource that will support you on your journey of awakening. Awakening is the only meaningful purpose of time. We cannot overemphasize the healing value of reading this book again and again. Once you read it you will want to send it to your friends. It has had a great impact on our lives and we are guided to do everything we can to help this book get into as many hands as possible.
* Scribed by Joe Wright and published in 1997, currently out of print. The reprint may be available soon from Project Healing Press. We will make it available to you as soon as it is reprinted. Having spent my whole life living on Long Island, just outside New York City, spending this Thanksgiving in the American heartland of Iowa was a truly unique experience and one that I will never forget. My 26 year old son, Kevin, has been living there for the past 5 months, and it was there that my wife, Laura, and I experienced the joy of a true miracle that comes from turning all problems over to the One Who knows the Truth.
You see, after an outstanding high school career and earning an athletic scholarship to the University of Massachusetts, Kevin fell into the depths of drug addiction over a six year period that eventually resulted in the intravenous abuse of heroin. Despite many efforts including interventions, in-patient and out-patient rehabs, addiction psychologists, AA and NA meetings, the strength of this disease over Kevin overpowered any attempts to battle it. When one is actively addicted to heroin, one feels no option but to get the drug by any means necessary. Going a day without a fix is really not an option. As a result, the levels to which he could stoop to obtain the drug appeared to have few limits.
As a parent, any insecurity that I ever held about myself would surface as I agonized over what I did wrong to have my son plunge to such depths. Didn’t I teach my son the proper values that would build character, discipline, and personal responsibility? Was my divorce from his mom a cause of this? Was I too lenient in his most formative years? Did I not serve as a good example that he would want to emulate? Eventually, after attending Al-Anon meetings for a while, I learned that: I didn’t cause it; I can’t cure it; I can’t control it. What I had learned from my study of ACIM was that I could turn this over to the Holy Spirit or what AA refers to as my Higher Power. His addiction got worse but my ability to put the Holy Spirit in charge got stronger. It is then that a miracle takes place.
With Kevin at his lowest point, his 41 year old 3rd cousin, Rob, from Iowa visited NY last summer after taking a break from the flood damage that had devastated his family’s property. This beautiful man, this ex-marine, offered Kevin a way out of hell. “Come to Iowa,” he said. “You need to detox and get in a 28 day rehab program there. And after that, providing that you dedicate yourself to 90 meetings in 90 days, you can live with me and help me with the flood clean up.” Somehow Kevin realized that jail, insanity, or death were his only other options. He went to Iowa with Rob.
It’s now been 5 months of sobriety for Kevin. Everything has changed. He has dedicated himself to his 12 step program and with the help of his sponsor is determined to stay in recovery. He has the beginnings of the belief in his Higher Power and is filled with gratitude for all the people who have helped and forgiven him, particularly in his darkest hours. He is working waiting tables and is enrolled again in college. He continues to help Rob with the flood damage. He is happy, healthy, and lives with two loving people who helped save his life.
We ate Thanksgiving dinner at Rob’s house in Iowa with 34 of the nicest, kindest Iowans - all of us holding hands before the meal and expressing individually all we have to be thankful for. I knew that I was experiencing the love of a “miracle.”

Yesterday I got a call from a young woman asking for help. She was so deeply depressed that she could barely talk on the phone. It started me thinking. What was the best way to help her? What was the best advice I could give? When someone hits rock bottom, whether from addiction, emotional problems or tragedy, where do they start to heal? How can they pick themselves up off the floor and get back on the right track? It seems to me that the best way I can help others in trouble is to tell them about how I healed — what worked for me.
This telling is a tool that they can use to help themselves. Unfortunately, there are no “easy buttons.” It would be nice if there were. The truth is that recovery takes work on yourself and it takes time. Just don’t give up hope, it can be done. I am living proof of that.
I hit rock bottom at age 46. I had a major nervous breakdown. That breakdown left me a train wreck of a human being. I was also an alcoholic and had been for 20 years. I lost my business. I lost friends. The neighbors became wary of me. I embarrassed my children. My husband was so worried we were going to lose the house and end up bankrupt that he was frantic and angry all the time. Why he didn’t take the kids and leave, I have no idea. I was worthless to myself and everyone else. The panic attacks were so fierce that I became house bound. The depression was so intense that I couldn’t get out of bed.
It was like falling off a cliff into a deep, dark well of misery and suffering. The emotional pain overwhelmed me and I lost all hope. At the same time, I knew that if I didn’t find some way to help myself, I would remain trapped in that terrible place until I died. There were times when I wanted to die.
For some reason, I have always had to learn things the hard way. When life was going along reasonably well, I had no interest in looking at my problems or solving them. Oh no, I had to get kicked in the teeth before I paid attention. That nervous breakdown was a serious kick in the teeth and it got my attention.
You can’t begin to solve a problem until you acknowledge that there is a problem. For many people that is such a hard thing to do, taking a good, hard, honest look at yourself and admitting you are screwed up. I had two dear friends who died at a very young age because they simply could not bring themselves to take that good, hard look. Perhaps it was their memory that gave me the courage to look in the mirror and say, “Mindy, you are an alcoholic and you have some serious emotional problems.”
Once I had acknowledged my problems, I realized that I needed help. There may be people out there who have been able to get themselves straightened out alone, but I don’t know any. I certainly wasn’t strong enough to go it alone. Besides, I didn’t understand exactly what was wrong with me. And there are so many places to get help. There are doctors and psychologists, there are treatment centers, and there is AA and NA. Some people find the help they need through support groups, churches and spirituality. All of these are a great place to start.
Another must for anyone who is an addict is changing life styles and friends. This is another difficult thing to do. It means giving up your current friends. But that is a must. An alcoholic simply cannot continue to hang around at bars with friends who love to get drunk. Drug addicts cannot continue to be around other drug users. Addicts need to find friendship and support with people who don’t engage in such destructive behavior.
Initially in my own recovery, the doctor put me on antidepressants because I was so desperately depressed. Without that, I never would have had the strength to even attempt getting better. I suggested to my caller that she should talk to her doctor.
One of the biggest components of my recovery was beginning a spiritual path. I started off by reading A Course In Miracles. The idea that God loves me exactly as I am, that I am a beautiful, holy child of God, brought me to tears. That started easing my self-hatred and guilt. It began releasing the pain. I fiercely hold on to that thought even now. Opening my heart to the Love of the Divine has blessed me. It has healed my soul. This was not something that happened overnight. It happened gradually over time. Spirituality is a journey that lasts a lifetime. Every day I put my heart and soul in God’s hands and he gives me the strength to get through that day with peace and joy.
People ask me why I am such a cheerful person these days and I tell them it is because I am so incredibly grateful for where I am. My life has changed from a nightmare into a blessing. In truth, my nervous breakdown was the greatest blessing I have ever had, even though it certainly didn’t feel like that at the time. That event forced me to work on healing myself. It brought me into an open, loving relationship with God. It gave me my life.
