When I was in third grade in 1954 my maternal grandmother died. I missed her very much. She taught me how to plant flowers and we created a very special rock garden in the shape of a triangle and dedicated it to the Holy Trinity, God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Grandma Hazel taught me how to bake special cookies and cakes and do craft projects that she donated to neighborhood churches who sold them at bake sales and fairs. She told me that Holy Spirit inspired her to do that and to always let him be my Guide.
She taught me the old time hymns and I sang them in the music shop where she worked as she played the piano and organ. When people stopped to listen she was gracious and thankful. She relaxed and almost floated when she played that beautiful music.
In doing these things with me, Grandma Hazel taught me how to be a spiritual being who is creative, giving, loving and accepting. She taught me to really listen to Holy Spirit for guidance.
At the end of eighth grade my paternal grandmother died and again I missed her very much. Gram Wade taught me to enjoy reading by giving me special books and also a Bible that previously belonged to my uncle and my father. She taught me prayers and told me that Holy Spirit was always there to council me if only I would be still and listen for His guidance.
We sat on her front porch and she taught me to calm myself and breathe softly and quietly and let Holy Spirit speak to my soul and give me guidance. Her porch became our chapel where marvelous spiritual guidance took place. She was a peaceful woman and taught me to crave serenity.
In doing all of these things Gram Wade taught me to love God and to keep evolving year after year into the spiritual being I was born to become. I am still working on myself and I appreciate the great help she gave me.
Both A Course in Miracles and the Bible teach me how to create, play, pray, learn, love, give and accept and also challenge myself as my two wise Grandmothers did. Many times when I am lonely for the grandmothers I pick up my books and spend a quiet hour reading and thank Holy Spirit for the miracles bestowed on me.

For the last two months I have been studying King David in the old Testament of the Bible and learning how the Holy Spirit talked to David and motivated David to be a kind and merciful ruler. I have also turned to A Course in Miracles during this study and found that Holy Spirit wants for us to be kind and merciful to others.
During the past four years I have been motivated by Holy Spirit to bake something once a month for two families that have a spouse that is gravely ill. I found that by doing this small act of kindness that the recipients appreciate not only the cake or cookies but the time my husband and I spend visiting with them when we deliver them.
We did get to know one family very, very well and when the wife passed away we cried out to Holy Spirit to heal our hearts. Then a few months later her dear husband passed away and we missed him furiously. At that time I asked God in His mercy to heal the hole in my heart and Holy Spirit answered by telling me to bake for another family in crisis.
I am finding that this small gesture of kindness which was motivated by the Holy Spirit has become a very large act of mercy and love. The people who I am able to serve love someone who they can pour out their very soul to and who will take time to listen without being afraid or judging. Family members sometimes become afraid or judgmental when told some of the gruesome details of very ill patient’s feelings. Good friends listen with mercy and kindness.
Holy Spirit always guides me and tells me when it is time to bake and when it is time to deliver. My husband is a willing participant.
In my quiet time each day with Holy Spirit, I not only pray for my dear friends but thank Holy Spirit for sending them into our lives.

In the story of the Wizard of Oz every person wanted something that was already inside of them, but did not know it. Dorothy was in a situation where she wanted to go home back to the realm of God in her thinking. She had the way to go back home at all times. All she had to do is click her red shoes together and she was back in the arms of God.
We do the same thing by going everywhere to find our answers instead of going within ourselves where God dwells. The red shoes represented the unconditional Love of God and the walk to realize where God is inside of us. The red shoes was a reminder of Who She Is. “The Kingdom of God is within.” We go on all kinds of different paths to find the yellow brick road that causes us to think differently about people and about situations that get us back to thinking like Spirit Beings instead of thinking like human beings in the realm of soul, which is my mind (Put on the Mind of God), my will (God’s will), my intellect (Wisdom of God), my emotion instead of unconditional Love.
The Straw Man or Scarecrow wanted a brain. Straw is something to feed the cattle not a Spirit Being. The Mind of God is something we must put on in order to think like God thinks. The scarecrow represents the negative thoughts that disappear with the thoughts of peace. The Tin man wanted a heart.
He was seeking the Heart of God that is continuing beating to the rhythm of Love and seeing everyone as Spirit Beings beautiful instead of egos who are full of faults. How can you have a heart when all your beliefs are made of tin and cannot change. The Cowardly Lion wanted courage. He had all the courage (fearless or brave quality) he needed within himself. A Lion knows that he belongs to the King. He is the King’s Son (all of us together). We want to think higher and to encourage others to see God as Pure Love and no Punishment. Now the most important person of All is the Wizard (magician; magic).
The Straw Man, the Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and Dorothy were going outside of themselves to find what they needed from God Who never leaves us or forsakes us because we are part of Him and He is part of us Himself.
What is magic? “The attempt to solve a problem where it is not in the physical or mindless measures; belief in separation.”
The word AT-One-Ment changes our thinking to belief in Oneness. One problem is the belief in separation and the answer is to believe in Oneness.
Don’t you want to remember that you have a Mind of God, Heart of God, and the Courage (faith to believe) of God? We also have the walk (take off the shoes of soul thinking you are on Holy Ground) to the yellow brick road of Love, Peace, Joy and Happiness. Isn’t it God that we seek or remember instead of something else?

The other day another human being in the throws of ego desperation called me complaining about another human being also in the throws of ego desperation with whom she desperately desired an ego relationship and couldn’t imagine not having what she so desperately desired.
Sure that she had tried everything under the sun to win this man’s understanding, heart, and very soul, she was still not ready to surrender. The torment in her mind was overwhelming. She can’t sleep, she can’t eat, she can’t work, but apparently was finding plenty of time and motivation to toke a few joints and crack open the Jack Daniels. This she said was the only relief she found; the ego in a drunken, dazed stupor was “relief.”
Well, such it is. We have all experienced our own mini-soap opera version of this script. I personally tried to help this character the ego was playing see the insanity of her behavior. I listened; I comforted; I gave gentle suggestions. I asked questions hoping she would find a clear answer or at least an umbrella under which to stand as shelter from the barrage of ego ignorance.
Eventually, I came to my senses. I realized I was relying on my senses. Yes, I had initially stepped back and asked Holy Spirit for help, BUT, when she had no willingness to join me in this place, I put on my swimsuit and jumped into the ego cesspool with her, taking on more of an in the world psychological perspective of how she might consider “dealing” with her feelings.
I began to feel hopeless as to how to truly help this individual. No matter what I did, how long I listened, shared my own experience and what I had found to be helpful in the past, step back and offer some “spiritual” sounding words… She returned again and again and yet again, with “BUT … BUT … BUT …”
Finally, I threw my hands, and my ego mind along with them, up in the air to Holy Spirit, truly giving up. And heard my SELF saying, “Yeah, the ego has a really BIG BUT!”
We broke into laughter. Holy Spirit nailed it! Tell it like it is. Forget all this other stinking ego version of what might be helpful. It wasn’t working.
As the Mentor Within said in my book, “Stop trying to change ridiculousness into more ridiculousness.” In that moment we both broke through the nightmare and truly saw the Light. Why? Because Holy Spirit tells it like it is and we were willing to listen.
We are told in A Course in Miracles that the ego’s goal is “seek and do not find.”
Undoing the ego happens as we are willing to see the tortured little speck of bird doo on the windshield that the ego really is. It clouds our vision, attempts to smear the truth, and stinks up the joint.
Once we notice this, talk about it, analyze it, write books about it, teach about it… we must at some point be WILLING to step back, take our “BIG BUT” to the Holy Spirit and say, “I am willing to give this ego “BIG BUT” to You, Holy Spirit, because it has gotten so big I can’t sit, walk, stand, swim, or bend over to pick up a dancing daisy; I cannot forgive.
I am in debt with misperceptions and grievances beyond my credit limit, I have reached my limit, and with Holy Spirit I now realize I have no limit.”
So, are we “fed up” yet? If so, let us put that ego “BIG BUT” on a FORGIVENESS DIET WITH HOLY SPIRIT and lose the greatest weight we are carrying around — the unforgiving ego mind.
