Opening to God’s Gifts of Peace and Joy

My mind is part of God’s. I am very holy.

Today’s idea does not describe the way you see yourself now. ²It does, however, describe what vision will show you. ³It is difficult for anyone who thinks he is in this world to believe this of himself. ⁴Yet the reason he thinks he is in this world is because he does not believe it.

You will believe that you are part of where you think you are. ²That is because you surround yourself with the environment you want. ³And you want it to protect the image of yourself that you have made. ⁴The image is part of this environment. ⁵What you see while you believe you are in it is seen through the eyes of the image. ⁶This is not vision. ⁷Images cannot see.

³Try to recognize that the direction of your fantasies about yourself does not matter. ⁴Illusions have no direction in reality. ⁵They are merely not true.

As often as possible during the day, pick up a specific attribute or attributes you are ascribing to yourself at the time and apply the idea for today to them… (A Course in Miracles, W-35.1–2;5:3-5;9:1. See also ACIM Lesson 35 Insights.)

We see a world of differences and conflict to affirm the ‘truth’ of our image of our self as a unique identity. But in the oneness of God’s Love there are no differences. Because of our wish for specialness, all we perceive are illusions.

We believe we have special attributes that set us apart. Affirming, “My mind is part of God’s. I am very holy” helps us loosen the barriers we have put up to protect our special identity. As we learn to identify with our Father’s Love, the barriers we have put up to protect our illusions of our self soften. We let in more of the peace and joy His Love brings to us.

Awakening to God’s Love

Awaking unto Christ is following the laws of love of your free will, and out of quiet recognition of the truth in them. ²The attraction of light must draw you willingly, and willingness is signified by giving. ³Those who accept love of you become your willing witnesses to the love you gave them, and it is they who hold it out to you. ⁴In sleep you are alone, and your awareness is narrowed to yourself. ⁵And that is why the nightmares come. ⁶You dream of isolation because your eyes are closed. ⁷You do not see your brothers, and in the darkness you cannot look upon the light you gave to them.

And yet the laws of love are not suspended because you sleep. ²And you have followed them through all your nightmares, and have been faithful in your giving, for you were not alone. ³Even in sleep has Christ protected you, ensuring the real world for you when you awake. ⁴In your name He has given for you, and given you the gifts He gave. ⁵God’s Son is still as loving as his Father. ⁶Continuous with his Father, he has no past apart from Him. ⁷So he has never ceased to be his Father’s witness and his own. ⁸Although he slept, Christ’s vision did not leave him. ⁹And so it is that he can call unto himself the witnesses that teach him that he never slept. The ego is the wish to keep something for itself alone. This is in direct opposition to the laws of love which give all love to all equally, without reservation.

As God’s Son, we were created by His gift of all His Love which keeps us united with Him in Love. To know that we are Love we must give it fully, without limit, trusting that the Love we are can never diminish. Trust in the Love of our Father is trust in the Love we are. Today we let Love guide us to be truly helpful by being loving and answering calls for Love with Love.

Resting in the Presence of Love

Today’s idea (I am spirit) identifies you with your one Self. ²It accepts no split identity, nor tries to weave opposing factors into unity. ³It simply states the truth. ⁴Practice this truth today as often as you can, for it will bring your mind from conflict to the quiet fields of peace.

²You are the spirit lovingly endowed with all your Father’s Love and peace and joy. ³You are the spirit which completes Himself, and shares His function as Creator. ⁴He is with you always, as you are with Him.

³He will offer all His strength to every little effort that you make. ⁴Give Him the minutes which He needs today, to help you understand with Him you are the spirit that abides in Him, and that calls through His Voice to every living thing; offers His sight to everyone who asks; replaces error with the simple truth.

²Spirit am I, a holy Son of God, free of all limits, safe and healed and whole, free to forgive, and free to save the world.

⁵The Holy Spirit gives you peace today. ⁶Receive His words, and offer them to Him. (A Course in Miracles, W-97.1:1-4;2:2-4;4:3-4;7:2;8:5-6). See also ACIM Lesson 97 Insights.

Pause for a moment to absorb the idea that we all are spirit. Spirit has no limits, is the same everywhere, and is eternally changeless. Spirit is endowed with all of God’s Love, peace and joy.

From this awareness, we see an unlimited universe that encompasses all of Reality. There are no adversaries, only parts of our one Self, united with our Father. We rest in God’s peace, certain of our safety in the Presence of Love.

Finding the Peace of God Within

Comparison must be an ego device, for love makes none. ²Specialness always makes comparisons. ³It is established by a lack seen in another, and maintained by searching for, and keeping clear in sight, all lacks it can perceive. ⁴This does it seek, and this it looks upon. ⁵And always whom it thus diminishes would be your savior, had you not chosen to make of him a tiny measure of your specialness instead. ⁶Against the littleness you see in him you stand as tall and stately, clean and honest, pure and unsullied, by comparison with what you see. ⁷Nor do you understand it is yourself that you diminish thus.

Pursuit of specialness is always at the cost of peace.

⁵The special messages the special hear convince them they are different and apart; each in his special sins and “safe” from love, which does not see his specialness at all. ⁶Christ’s vision is their “enemy,” for it sees not what they would look upon, and it would show them that the specialness they think they see is an illusion.

What would they see instead? ²The shining radiance of the Son of God, so like his Father that the memory of Him springs instantly to mind. …⁵This is the only “cost” of truth: You will no longer see what never was, nor hear what makes no sound. ⁶Is it a sacrifice to give up nothing, and to receive the Love of God forever? We, the Sons of God, are His one Creation. He sees all His Sons as One, eternally united with Himself. The wish for specialness is the wish to disconnect from our Source and claim a unique identity. This made-up image of a separate self competes for attention and status in a world of conflict. Peace cannot be found in conflict.

There is a place in our mind where peace remains undisturbed. It is the home of our true Self, which remains connected with our Father’s Love. When we forgive and lay down our quest for specialness, we will remember that we rest in the safety of God’s Love now and forever. There is nothing else to seek.

Learning to See the Forgiven World

In order to see, you must recognize that light is within, not without. ²You do not see outside yourself, nor is the equipment for seeing outside you. ³An essential part of this equipment is the light that makes seeing possible. ⁴It is with you always, making vision possible in every circumstance.

…leave behind everything that you now believe, and all the thoughts that you have made up. ⁵Properly speaking, this is the release from hell. ⁶Yet perceived through the ego’s eyes, it is loss of identity and a descent into hell.

If you can stand aside from the ego by ever so little, you will have no difficulty in recognizing that its opposition and its fears are meaningless.

…what is needful is a sense of the importance of what you are doing; its inestimable value to you, and an awareness that you are attempting something very holy. ²Salvation is your happiest accomplishment. ³It is also the only one that has any meaning, because it is the only one that has any real use to you at all.

²Try to think of light, formless and without limit, as you pass by the thoughts of this world. ³And do not forget that they cannot hold you to the world unless you give them the power to do so. (A Course in Miracles, W-44.2;5:4–6:1;8;10:2-3. See also ACIM Lesson 44 Insights.)

Our true Self is an extension of God’s Love. Like God, It has no form. It is the same everywhere and always. Nothing exists outside of the Love we are as God’s Son. This Love is the Light with which see a forgiven world.

It is a mistake to identify with the ego, which denies Love’s Reality. All the ego can produce is dreams projected on a veil of denial. Today we step back from our misidentification with the ego and welcome the vision of Christ to see the world of Love that is our Home.

Fulfilling the Function That Returns Us to Love

It is your Father’s holy Will that you complete Himself, and that your Self shall be His sacred Son, forever pure as He, of love created and in love preserved, extending love, creating in its name, forever one with God and with your Self.

³Forgiveness represents your function here.

…God created One Who has the power to translate in form the wholly formless. ⁶What He makes are dreams, but of a kind so close to waking that the light of day already shines in them, and eyes already opening behold the joyful sights their offerings contain.

Forgiveness gently looks upon all things unknown in Heaven, sees them disappear, and leaves the world a clean and unmarked slate on which the Word of God can now replace the senseless symbols written there before. ²Forgiveness is the means by which the fear of death is overcome, because it holds no fierce attraction now and guilt is gone. ³Forgiveness lets the body be perceived as what it is; a simple teaching aid, to be laid by when learning is complete, but hardly changing him who learns at all. There is only one thing we must do to escape the world of fear and guilt entirely. We must forgive all value we give to any forms in the world. When forgiveness is complete, with no exceptions, the world will disappear and we will waken to the Heaven of God’s Love.

While we still perceive a world of differences, we have a function to fulfill. Each time we take a perception to the Holy Spirit with willingness to accept His loving correction, we move closer to waking to the Love that is our true Identity. We are grateful for the help of our inner Teacher.

Offering Love to the World

Projection makes perception. ²The world you see is what you gave it, nothing more than that. ³But though it is no more than that, it is not less. ⁴Therefore, to you it is important. ⁵It is the witness to your state of mind, the outside picture of an inward condition. ⁶As a man thinketh, so does he perceive. ⁷Therefore, seek not to change the world, but choose to change your mind about the world. ⁸Perception is a result and not a cause. ⁹And that is why order of difficulty in miracles is meaningless. ¹⁰Everything looked upon with vision is healed and holy. ¹¹Nothing perceived without it means anything. ¹²And where there is no meaning, there is chaos.

Damnation is your judgment on yourself, and this you will project upon the world. ²See it as damned, and all you see is what you did to hurt the Son of God. ³If you behold disaster and catastrophe, you tried to crucify him. ⁴If you see holiness and hope, you joined the Will of God to set him free. ⁵There is no choice that lies between these two decisions. ⁶And you will see the witness to the choice you made, and learn from this to recognize which one you chose. ⁷The world you see but shows you how much joy you have allowed yourself to see in you, and to accept as yours. ⁸And, if this _is_ its meaning, then the power to give it joy must lie within you. To know what we believe about ourselves, we need only observe what we see in the world. Our perceptions give us immediate feedback about our beliefs. Our judgments about the world reinforce our sense of separation and isolation. They keep us bound to a dream that could never be true.

The way to wake up from this dream is to let the Love within lighten our vision to show us Love’s Presence. It is everywhere to be seen because it is all that is real. Today we choose Love to guide our seeing. We want to remember the Love we are and offer It to the world.
