Learning to Offer Only Gifts of Love

As the ego would limit your perception of your brothers to the body, so would the Holy Spirit release your vision and let you see the Great Rays shining from them, so unlimited that they reach to God. ²It is this shift to vision that is accomplished in the holy instant.”

Our task is but to continue, as fast as possible, the necessary process of looking straight at all the interference and seeing it exactly as it is. ²For it is impossible to recognize as wholly without gratification what you think you want. ³The body is the symbol of the ego, as the ego is the symbol of the separation. ⁴And both are nothing more than attempts to limit communication, and thereby to make it impossible. ⁵For communication must be unlimited in order to have meaning, and deprived of meaning, it will not satisfy you completely. ⁶Yet it [communication] remains the only means by which you can establish real relationships, which have no limits, having been established by God.

²Love would always give increase. ³Limits are demanded by the ego, and represent its demands to make little and ineffectual. ⁴Limit your sight of a brother to his body, which you will do as long as you would not release him from it, and you have denied his gift to you. ⁵His body cannot give it. ⁶And seek it not through yours. ⁷Yet your minds are already continuous, and their union need only be accepted and the loneliness in Heaven is gone. While we identify with a body, the symbol of the ego, we believe bodies, and what they seem to do, are real. Unreal itself, the body can only see illusions. It cannot see the truth in anyone.

To break free from this cycle of belief and misperception, we need to accept the Holy Spirit’s help to look directly at the ego’s interference. With His help we see the nothingness of images of separation, and look past them to the Love that unites us with all Creation. As we let Love guide our seeing, we will rest in God’s peace and joyously offer only Love to all.

Letting Our Mind Serve Love

I rule my mind, which I alone must rule.

I have a kingdom I must rule. ²At times, it does not seem I am its king at all. ³It seems to triumph over me, and tell me what to think, and what to do and feel. ⁴And yet it has been given me to serve whatever purpose I perceive in it. ⁵My mind can only serve. ⁶Today I give its service to the Holy Spirit to employ as He sees fit. ⁷I thus direct my mind, which I alone can rule. ⁸And thus I set it free to do the Will of God.

Father, my mind is open to Your Thoughts, and closed today to every thought but Yours. ²I rule my mind, and offer it to You. ³Accept my gift, for it is Yours to me. (A Course in Miracles, W-236. See also ACIM Lesson 236 Insights.)

The wish for specialness denies our true Identity. To hide from this Identity, the mind dedicated to specialness makes a false identity that needs constant defense. The body is its central focus which is flooded with distractions that seem to need attention to maintain its safety.

But the mind can serve a different purpose. Today we give its service to the Holy Spirit to use to extend Love, our true Identity. We join in God’s eternal Creation. As let our mind be open to Thoughts of Love, our world is transformed. We recognize the Life we live in Love.

Opening to Receive Love’s Blessings

The real world is the state of mind in which the only purpose of the world is seen to be forgiveness. ²Fear is not its goal, for the escape from guilt becomes its aim. ³The value of forgiveness is perceived and takes the place of idols, which are sought no longer, for their “gifts” are not held dear. ⁴No rules are idly set, and no demands are made of anyone or anything to twist and fit into the dream of fear. ⁵Instead, there is a wish to understand all things created as they really are. ⁶And it is recognized that all things must be first forgiven, and then understood.

⁷The world becomes a place of hope, because its only purpose is to be a place where hope of happiness can be fulfilled. ⁸And no one stands outside this hope, because the world has been united in belief the purpose of the world is one which all must share, if hope be more than just a dream.

²The real world is a state in which the mind has learned how easily do idols go when they are still perceived but wanted not. ³How willingly the mind can let them go when it has understood that idols are nothing and nowhere, and are purposeless. ⁴For only then can guilt and sin be seen without a purpose, and as meaningless.

Thus is the real world’s purpose gently brought into awareness, to replace the goal of sin and guilt. ²And all that stood between your image of yourself and what you are, forgiveness washes joyfully away. (A Course in Miracles, T-30.V.1;2:7-8;5:1–6:2. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

We cannot understand God’s Creation as long as we want to maintain a unique identity. As long as we want separation to be real, we cannot understand the oneness of Love. Thus forgiveness of our mistaken wish for specialness opens our mind to receive Love’s blessings of peace and happiness.

When we are willing to learn, the Holy Spirit will teach us to recognize that all conflict is based on illusions that are nothing and nowhere. We forgive our mistaken perceptions and we see a world united in the limitless extension of Love.

Love Embraces Us All as One

Love is the way I walk in gratitude.

⁷Your gratitude is due to Him alone Who made all cause of sorrow disappear throughout the world.

…Who offers you the certain means whereby all pain is healed, and suffering replaced with laughter and with happiness.

Walk, then, in gratitude the way of love. ²For hatred is forgotten when we lay comparisons aside. ³What more remains as obstacles to peace? ⁴The fear of God is now undone at last, and we forgive without comparing. ⁵Thus we cannot choose to overlook some things, and yet retain some other things still locked away as “sins.” ⁶When your forgiveness is complete you will have total gratitude, for you will see that everything has earned the right to love by being loving, even as your Self.

Our gratitude will pave the way to Him, and shorten our learning time by more than you could ever dream of. ²Gratitude goes hand in hand with love, and where one is the other must be found. ³For gratitude is but an aspect of the Love which is the Source of all creation. When Love is present, gratitude is inevitable. And there is no place where Love is not. But while we engage in the ego’s penchant for comparing differences to establish specialness, we are unaware of the Love that surrounds us and completes us.

Today we bring all our comparisons, our likes and dislikes, to the Holy Spirit with willingness to be shown the changeless Love that is our eternal environment. Our hearts are filled with gratitude as we experience the Love that embraces us all as One.

Christ’s Visions Shows Us Our Life in God

God is my life. I have no life but His.

I was mistaken when I thought I lived apart from God, a separate entity that moved in isolation, unattached, and housed within a body. ²Now I know my life is God’s, I have no other home, and I do not exist apart from Him. ³He has no Thoughts that are not part of me, and I have none but those which are of Him.

Our Father, let us see the face of Christ instead of our mistakes. ²For we who are Your holy Son are sinless. ³We would look upon our sinlessness, for guilt proclaims that we are not Your Son. ⁴And we would not forget You longer. ⁵We are lonely here, and long for Heaven, where we are at home. ⁶Today we would return. ⁷Our Name is Yours, and we acknowledge that we are Your Son. Our life is God’s and He love us with His boundless Love. We have all that we need, eternally.

The ego tells us a different story. The wish for specialness entices us to reject our Father’s Love in favor of claiming some meaningless status we can call our own. The price we pay for this is guilt and fear, loneliness and lack.

But we have the means in our mind to let go of our mistaken thoughts that deny our Father’s Love. His Voice reminds us that we are His Son. As we pause and quiet our mind, Christ’s vision shows us the life we live in God.

The Power of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is this world’s equivalent of Heaven’s justice. ²It translates the world of sin into a simple world, where justice can be reflected from beyond the gate behind which total lack of limits lies. ³Nothing in boundless love could need forgiveness. ⁴And what is charity within the world gives way to simple justice past the gate that opens into Heaven. ⁵No one forgives unless he has believed in sin, and still believes that he has much to be forgiven. ⁶Forgiveness thus becomes the means by which he learns he has done nothing to forgive. ⁷Forgiveness always rests upon the one who offers it, until he sees himself as needing it no more. ⁸And thus is he returned to his real function of creating [extending Love], which his forgiveness offers him again.

…what has been forgiven must join, for nothing stands between to keep them separate and apart. ⁵The sinless must perceive that they are one, for nothing stands between to push the other off. ⁶And in the space that sin left vacant do they join as one, in gladness recognizing what is part of them has not been kept apart and separate.

³Not one is lost, and none is cherished more than any other. ⁴Each reminds him of his Father’s Love as surely as the rest.

²How little is the hindrance that withholds the wealth of Heaven from you. ³And how great will be the joy in Heaven when you join the mighty chorus to the Love of God! (A Course in Miracles, T-26.IV.1;2:4-6;4:3-4;6:2-3. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

As God’s creation, we are extensions of His Love. Awareness of His Love is blocked by our choice to value specialness over the unity of Love. Perceptions of differences reinforce the ego’s defenses against the Love that is our true Identity.

Each time we forgive a perception of differences, we clear away a barrier to the boundless Love of Heaven. Forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves and the world. It recognizes our unity with everyone in the Love of our Father.

Letting Our Light Shine Upon the World

I place the future in the Hands of God.

Accept today’s idea, and you have passed all anxiety, all pits of hell, all blackness of depression, thoughts of sin, and devastation brought about by guilt. ²Accept today’s idea, and you have released the world from all imprisonment by loosening the heavy chains that locked the door to freedom on it. ³You are saved, and your salvation thus becomes the gift you give the world, because you have received.

In no one instant is depression felt, or pain experienced or loss perceived. ²In no one instant sorrow can be set upon a throne, and worshipped faithfully. ³In no one instant can one even die. ⁴And so each instant given unto God in passing, with the next one given Him already, is a time of your release from sadness, pain and even death itself.

“Release the future. ²For the past is gone, and what is present, freed from its bequest of grief and misery, of pain and loss, becomes the instant in which time escapes the bondage of illusions where it runs its pitiless, inevitable course. ³Then is each instant which was slave to time transformed into a holy instant, when the light that was kept hidden in God’s Son is freed to bless the world. ⁴Now is he free, and all his glory shines upon a world made free with him, to share his holiness. There is a Light in us which transcends the world and all its conflict and misery. It was placed there by our Creator, never to be extinguished. It is our true Self, God’s Son.

We let this Light shine by forgiving the past and placing the future in God’s Hands. His Voice is in our minds ready to help us remember we are Love and nothing else, united with all Creation.
