From Feeling Vulnerable to Knowing Perfect Safety

Forgiveness is the end of specialness. Only illusions can be forgiven, and then they disappear. Forgiveness is release from all illusions, and that is why it is impossible but partly to forgive.

It is not you who are so vulnerable and open to attack that just a word, a little whisper that you do not like, a circumstance that suits you not, or an event that you did not anticipate upsets your world, and hurls it into chaos. Truth is not frail. Illusions [of specialness] leave [your true Self] perfectly unmoved and undisturbed. But specialness is not the truth in you. It can be thrown off balance by anything. What rests on nothing never can be stable. However large and overblown [specialness] seems to be, it still must rock and turn and whirl about with every breeze.

Without foundation nothing is secure. Would God have left His Son in such a state, where safety has no meaning? No, His Son is safe, resting on Him. It is your specialness that is attacked by everything that walks and breathes, or creeps or crawls, or even lives at all. Nothing is safe from [attack by specialness], and [specialness] is safe from nothing. It will forevermore be unforgiving, for that is what [specialness] is; a secret vow that what God wants for you will never be, and that you will oppose His Will forever. Nor is it possible the two [God’s Will and the wish for specialness] can ever be the same, while specialness stands like a flaming sword of death between them, and makes them enemies. The wish to be a separate identity (specialness) is the denial of our unity with the Love of God. Specialness is the denial of Love. The true meaning of Love is inconceivable to the mind dedicated to maintaining a special separate identity. This is why forgiveness releases us to remember that we always have God’s gifts of Love, joy and peace.

The mind dedicated to specialness can never justify forgiveness, for the individual identity is maintained by holding on to separation (sin). Though we seem lost in the thought system of separation, we have not really lost our right mind which knows our oneness in Love. We can always turn to the Holy Spirit in our right mind for help to recognize illusions for what they are. With that recognition, forgiveness is automatic. No one keeps illusions once they are recognized for what they are.

The Holy Spirit is the bridge from our identification with illusions and the recognition of our invulnerable, changeless Self, resting in God. The Holy Spirit sees our illusions, but does not believe in them. So He can help us lay down our defenses and let illusions go.

Today we bring our defenses, anything that disturbs our peace of mind, to the Holy Spirit. We are willing to accept His help to see that we remain safe, for we rest in God.

Letting the Love Heal Our Minds

Is it not [God] Who knows the way to you? You need not know the way to Him.

And so today we do not choose the way in which we go to Him. But we do choose to let Him come. And with this choice we rest. And in our quiet hearts and open minds, His Love will blaze its pathway of itself. What has not been denied is surely there, if it be true and can be surely reached. God knows His Son, and knows the way to him. He does not need His Son to show Him how to find His way. Through every opened door His Love shines outward from its home within, and lightens up the world in innocence.

Father, we do not know the way to You. But we have called, and You have answered us. We will not interfere. Salvation’s ways are not our own, for they belong to You. And it is unto You we look for them. Our hands are open to receive Your gifts. We have no thoughts we think apart from You, and cherish no beliefs of what we are, or Who created us. Yours is the way that we would find and follow. And we ask but that Your Will, which is our own as well, be done in us and in the world, that it become a part of Heaven now. Amen. It does not seem that our experiences in the world are illusions with no substance whatsoever. It is our belief in the reality of the world’s images of separation that makes them a barrier to the awareness of the changeless Love we are. We have Help to remove these self-made barriers.

We accept this Help by quieting our minds and welcoming the peace and Love of God within. As we step back and let Him lead the way, His Light will shine upon the world. This Light will reveal to us that the forms of the world can have no effect whatsoever on What we are — Love and nothing else. We need do nothing but be willing to welcome the Light in our minds by bringing all our perceptions to It.

The Light of Love will show us the pathway Home. We will recognize our beliefs are mistaken and the seeming reality of the world will fade away. Today we practice bringing all our perceptions to the Light of Love within to learn what is real and what is unreal. We have all the Help we need. Our success is guaranteed. We need only be willing to receive God’s gift of Love.

Our Mighty Companion Leads Us Home

God is but Love, and therefore so am I.

This Self alone knows Love. This Self alone is perfectly consistent in Its Thoughts; knows Its Creator, understands Itself, is perfect in Its knowledge and Its Love, and never changes from Its constant state of union with Its Father and Itself.”

…this remains our goal, and as we practice it is this to which we are approaching. Let us raise our hearts from dust to life, as we remember this is promised us, and that this course was sent to open up the path of light to us, and teach us, step by step, how to return to the eternal Self we thought we lost.

I take the journey with you. For I share your doubts and fears a little while, that you may come to me who recognize the road by which all fears and doubts are overcome. We walk together. I must understand uncertainty and pain, although I know they have no meaning. Yet a savior must remain with those he teaches, seeing what they see, but still retaining in his mind the way that led him out, and now will lead you out with him. God’s promise is that we remain as He created us, unchanged, united with His Love, His peace and His joy. We have a mighty Companion Who walks with us to guide us on our journey of remembering. He has taken this journey before us and understands what we need to remember our true Self as What we are.

With such support we can be confident that we will find our way Home. We need only do the practice set out for us, confident that it is given us by One Who knows the way that is in our best interest. We do not need to understand how the practice works. We need only be willing to commit to the practice moment by moment.  It is the path to happiness, perfect peace and eternal Love.

The Key to Release from All Problems

Although you are one Self, you experience yourself as two; as both good and evil, loving and hating, mind and body. This sense of being split into opposites induces feelings of acute and constant conflict, and leads to frantic attempts to reconcile the contradictory aspects of this self-perception. You have sought many such solutions, and none of them has worked. The opposites you see in you will never be compatible. But one exists.

The fact that truth and illusion cannot be reconciled, no matter how you try, what means you use and where you see the problem, must be accepted if you would be saved. Until you have accepted this, you will attempt an endless list of goals you cannot reach; a senseless series of expenditures of time and effort, hopefulness and doubt, each one as futile as the one before, and failing as the next one surely will.

Salvation comes from this one Self through Him Who is the Bridge between your mind and It. Wait patiently, and let Him speak to you about your Self, and what your mind can do, restored to [this one Self] and free to serve Its Will. The ultimate solution to all our problems cannot be resolved through the world made by the thought of separation. Separation could never be true because our Source is one and cannot be divided. Together we are one Self, united in the Mind of God which created this one Self by extending His Love.

In the dream world we believe in a mind that is split off from our Source. The Holy Spirit is the bridge of communication between this split mind and the Mind of our one Self, united with the loving Will of God. The Holy Spirit is the Voice for Love, extending to the split mind that has denied Love.

The practice of pausing and welcoming the Voice for Love in our minds opens us to the resolution of all our problems. This Voice brings peace with It as we welcome It. In peace all problems are quietly resolved. In peace we are inspired with the form of Love’s reflection to be applied in the world. Thus the problems the ego would use to make separation seem real becomes the means to release belief in separation. This is how we accept God’s plan for salvation.

The Blessing of Serving the Holy Spirit’s Plan

Neither you nor your brother alone can serve at all. Only in your joint will does healing lie. For here your healing is, and here will you accept Atonement. And in your healing is the Sonship healed because your will and your brother’s are joined.”

Child of peace, the light has come to you. The light you bring you do not recognize, and yet you will remember. Who can deny himself the vision that he brings to others? And who would fail to recognize a gift he let be laid in Heaven through himself? The gentle service that you give the Holy Spirit is service to yourself. You who are now His means must love all that [the Holy Spirit] loves. And what you bring is your remembrance of everything that is eternal. No trace of anything in time can long remain in a mind that serves the timeless. And no illusion can disturb the peace of a relationship that has become the means of peace.

When you have looked upon your brother with complete forgiveness, from which no error is excluded and nothing kept hidden, what mistake can there be anywhere you cannot overlook? What form of suffering could block your sight, preventing you from seeing past it? And what illusion could there be you will not recognize as a mistake; a shadow through which you walk completely undismayed? God would let nothing interfere with those whose wills are His, and they will recognize their wills are His, because they serve His Will. And serve it willingly. The path to freedom and peace is through service to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit’s purpose is to bring us to full remembrance that we remain at one with God. We remain Love and nothing else. To serve the Holy Spirit is to serve His purpose. In this service we become His messengers of Light to all our brothers. We see every brother in this Light, which dispels the shadows of ego’s illusions of separation.

When we see our brothers in the Light of Love, we see that same Light in ourselves. As we perceive our brothers, we perceive ourselves. When we choose to serve the Holy Spirit, we accept God’s Will as our own. We lay aside our mistaken belief in the ego’s thought of separation. It is through this dedication and practice that we forgive our mistaken perceptions. The Holy Spirit’s Light shines away these shadows and brings us true perception that sees the innocence of Love everywhere. This is our dedication today and every day.

Rolling Away Our Barriers to Love’s Presence

Forget not once this journey is begun the end is certain. Doubt along the way will come and go and go to come again. Yet is the ending sure. No one can fail to do what God appointed him to do. When you forget, remember that you walk with Him and with His Word upon your heart. Who could despair when hope like this is his? Illusions of despair may seem to come, but learn how not to be deceived by them. Behind each [illusion] there is reality and there is God. Why would you wait for this and trade it for illusions, when His Love is but an instant farther on the road where all illusions end? The end is sure and guaranteed by God.

You are a stranger here. But you belong to Him Who loves you as He loves Himself. Ask but my help to roll the stone away, and it is done according to His Will. We have begun the journey. Long ago the end was written in the stars and set into the Heavens with a shining Ray that held it safe within eternity and through all time as well. And holds it still; unchanged, unchanging and unchangeable. (A Course in Miracles, Clarification of Terms ep.1:1-10;2)

Behind each illusion of a body or any form in the world is God. No matter what we perceive in the world, the strength of God is in us. When we learn to rely on His strength and not ours alone, we experience the safety and certainty of God’s Love.

It is God’s Will that we have all of His Love. He has given His Help to the part of our mind that has closed itself off from Love and made a dream world of isolation, guilt and fear. We express our willingness to accept this Help by asking for It.

Today we call upon this Help to guide us to see the changeless, eternal Love that we are. As we accept this Help, we see this changeless Love everywhere, beyond all forms. The “stone” of our barriers to Love’s presence is rolled away and the Light of Love we are shines forth to bless the world. Our hearts are filled with gratitude.

Identifying with God’s Son, Our True Self

The body was made to be a sacrifice to sin, and in the darkness so it still is seen. Yet in the light of vision it is looked upon quite differently. You can have faith in [the body] to serve the Holy Spirit’s goal, and give it power to serve as means to help the blind to see. But in their seeing they look past [the body], as do you. The faith and the belief you gave it belongs beyond. You gave perception and belief and faith from mind to body. Let them now be given back to (the mind which] produced [perception, belief and faith], and can use them still to save itself from what it made.

Your faith is moving inward, past insanity and on to reason. And what your reason tells you now the ego would not hear. The Holy Spirit’s purpose was accepted by the part of your mind the ego knows not of. No more did you. And yet this part, with which you now identify, is not afraid to look upon itself. It knows no sin. How, otherwise, could it have been willing to see the Holy Spirit’s purpose as its own?

This part has seen your brother, and recognized him perfectly since time began. And it desired nothing but to join with him and to be free again, as once it was. It has been waiting for the birth of freedom; the acceptance of release to come to you. (A Course in Miracles, T-21.III.12. IV.4:3-5:3. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

Our right mind, our true Self, has always seen Itself in every brother. Being Love, our true Self wants only to join with the Love that is the truth in our brothers. The acceptance of this purpose is the end of the ego’s goal of separation (sin). The ego cannot seem to exist in the Light of Love’s oneness.

When we accept the Holy Spirit’s purpose as our own, we accept His vision which shows us the Love that is our brother, beyond the appearance of a body. Today we give our perception, faith and belief to the Holy Spirit’s purpose. For we would identify with the true Self we share with our brothers and remember we are God’s one Son.
