Healing Is Recognizing Our Unity in Love

[The teacher of God] overlooks the mind and body, seeing only the face of Christ [seeing innocence] shining in front of him, correcting all mistakes and healing all perception. Healing is the result of the recognition, by God’s teacher, of who it is that is in need of healing. This recognition has no special reference. It is true of all things that God created. In it are all illusions healed.

When a teacher of God fails to heal [forgive], it is because he has forgotten Who he is. Another’s sickness thus becomes his own. In allowing this to happen, he has identified with another’s ego, and has thus confused him with a body.

The offer of Atonement [healing] is universal. It is equally applicable to all individuals in all circumstances. And in it is the power to heal all individuals of all forms of sickness. Not to believe this is to be unfair to God, and thus unfaithful to Him. A sick person perceives himself as separate from God. Would you see him as separate from you? It is your task to heal [forgive/let go of] the sense of separation that has made him sick. It is your function to recognize for him that what he believes about himself is not the truth. It is your forgiveness that must show him this. (A Course in Miracles, M-22.4:5-5:3;6:1-9)

Seeing the face of Christ is a symbol for seeing the innocence of Love beyond the images of the world. Love is universal and formless. To recognize Love’s universal Presence, we must recognize that the body and all the images of the world are not real. This means that we must be willing to step back from the ego’s perceptions of separation and ask the Holy Spirit to help us see our unbreakable connection in Love with everyone.

In truth we have never been separate from Love. It is our mistaken belief in being separate that must be healed or forgiven. We are not the ego. We are not a body. We are an extension of God’s Love, united eternally with our Father. This is the recognition that heals the part of our mind that has been sickened by belief in separation.

We ask the Holy Spirit for His help to see the Love that surrounds us and is in us. With His help, we will recognize our unity in Love. We will see the face of Christ.

Letting the Voice for Love Lead Us Home

I did not understand what made me free, nor what my freedom is, nor where to look to find it. Father, I have searched in vain until I heard Your Voice directing me. Now I would guide myself no more. For I have neither made nor understood the way to find my freedom. But I trust in You. You Who endowed me with my freedom as Your holy Son will not be lost to me. Your Voice directs me, and the way to You is opening and clear to me at last. Father, my freedom is in You alone. Father, it is my will that I return.

Today we answer for the world, which will be freed along with us. How glad are we to find our freedom through the certain way our Father has established. And how sure is all the world’s salvation, when we learn our freedom can be found in God alone. (, A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 321,W-pI.321. See also ACIM Lesson 321 Insights.)

If you were lost in a forest and came across someone who was also lost, would you ask that person to guide you out of the forest? Of course not. It makes no sense to ask the lost to guide the lost. Yet that is exactly what we do when we follow the ego’s direction to “find” Love. The ego does not know what Love is so it does not know what to look for.

But God has given us His Voice of Love to guide us back to the Love that is our birthright. When we let His Voice direct us, we are led on the return to Love. We can trust this Voice for it is the Voice for All That is Real. It is time to switch our allegiance from the ego to the One Who knows the way to our Home in Love.

The Key to Peace of Mind

My only function [forgiveness] is the one God gave me. The idea for today reaffirms your commitment to salvation. It also reminds you that you have no function other than that. Both these thoughts are obviously necessary for a total commitment. Salvation cannot be the only purpose you hold while you still cherish others. The full acceptance of salvation [forgiveness] as your only function necessarily entails two phases; the recognition of salvation as your function, and the relinquishment of all the other goals you have invented for yourself.

This is the only way in which you can find peace of mind.

Today’s idea offers you escape from all your perceived difficulties. It places the key to the door of peace, which you have closed upon yourself, in your own hands. Peace of mind is the payoff for forgiveness. And a peaceful state of mind experiences the unity of God’s Love. All of us are seeking this. In the ego world we experience lack of Love and constant conflict. This is the solution that resolves all conflict and clears away the barriers to Love’s presence.

We do not really want to continue going down the myriad dead ends the ego leads us on. It cannot lead us to the peace of mind or to changeless Love because it does not know the way. It can only offer meaningless substitutes.

Now is the time to commit to the practice of bringing all our perceptions to the Holy Spirit with willingness to see them as He sees them. He will show us the truth that lies beyond the ego’s false images. This is the journey to peace of mind.

Finding Solutions to Our Problems

The problem of separation, which is really the only problem, has already been solved.

The temptation to regard problems as many is the temptation to keep the problem of separation unsolved.”

If you could recognize that your only problem is separation, no matter what form it takes, you could accept the answer because you would see its relevance. Perceiving the underlying constancy in all the problems that seem to confront you, you would understand that you have the means to solve them all. And you would use the means, because you recognize the problem.

We will try to free our minds of all the many different kinds of problems we think we have. We will try to realize that we have only one problem, which we have failed to recognize. We will ask what [the problem] is, and wait for the answer. We will be told. Then we will ask for the solution to it. And we will be told. All forms are illusions made from the belief in separation. Forms have no meaning of their own. A perceived problem comes from the meaning we are giving to the form. This self-imposed meaning makes the real problem invisible to us. It is the meaning we give it that keeps the problem in place.

This is why we need to clear our minds of our self-imposed meaning by asking of the Holy Spirit what the problem is. We of ourselves do not know because we are engaged with the illusion through our belief. The act of asking for help is an expression of our willingness to consider that there may be a meaning we are not aware of. This offers the Holy Spirit an opportunity to teach us what the real problem is — the belief in separation.

Once we have accepted the Holy Spirit’s answer for what the problem is, asking for the solution expresses our willingness to change our mind. The Holy Spirit will give us the solution in a form that we can accept. His teaching is always individualized in recognition of our belief in limitations. This practice is a journey of awakening to the recognition that every problem has already been solved.

Remembering the Peace of God Is Ours

I want the peace of God.

To say these words is nothing. But to mean these words is everything. If you could but mean them for just an instant, there would be no further sorrow possible for you in any form; in any place or time. Heaven would be completely given back to full awareness, memory of God entirely restored, the resurrection of all creation fully recognized.

To mean you want the peace of God is to renounce all dreams. For no one means these words who wants illusions, and who therefore seeks the means which bring illusions. He has looked on them, and found them wanting. Now he seeks to go beyond them, recognizing that another dream would offer nothing more than all the others. Dreams are one to him. And he has learned their only difference is one of form, for one will bring the same despair and misery as do the rest.

It is this one intent [to share the Will of God] we seek today, uniting our desires with the need of every heart, the call of every mind, the hope that lies beyond despair, the love attack would hide, the brotherhood that hate has sought to sever, but which still remains as God created it. Everyone in the world wants the peace of God. We want to remember our true Self, which dwells in God’s peace. And yet this seems to be an impossible dream, a utopia beyond our reach. This is because we have chosen a dream of specialness and limitation. We believe that specialness will offer us more than everything, more than the limitless Love and eternal peace of our Creator. This is the belief that gives the ego’s dream priority in our mind. But this dream can only offer empty images that have no meaning because they are not real.

It is impossible for the oneness of Love to be divided so that some may have more and others less. So while we believe we want this dream, we seek for reality that cannot be found in the dream that denies the Reality of God.

Today we choose to follow the Voice for God and accept Its lessons that teach us what is true and what is false, what is real and what is unreal. As we learn to recognize illusions for what they are, our inner Guide will help us look past meaningless illusions to remember the peace of God is ours now.

Let the Light of Love Shine Through Us Today

My holiness shines bright and clear today.

Today I wake with joy, expecting but the happy things of God to come to me. I ask but them to come, and realize my invitation will be answered by the thoughts to which it has been sent by me. And I will ask for only joyous things the instant I accept my holiness. For what would be the use of pain to me, what purpose would my suffering fulfill, and how would grief and loss avail me if insanity departs from me today, and I accept my holiness instead?

Father, my holiness is Yours. Let me rejoice in it, and through forgiveness be restored to sanity. Your Son is still as You created him. My holiness is part of me, and also part of You. When we identify with the ego, we are asking for unhappiness, for grief, sickness, fear and death. Believing we are separate from our Creator is believing we are unholy. That belief sends out requests for images that seem to confirm the reality of separation. So the pain and suffering we experience in the world is there by our request when we believe the ego’s insanity is our identity.

Accepting our holiness is sanity because we are accepting what is real instead of believing in what could never be real. Only Love is real. As we accept the Self that Love created, joy and peace come with it. This is the Will of our Creator and it is the Will of our Self as well. This Self is holy because It remains united with the Source of holiness. God’s holiness is ours. As we let go of our belief in a past that is not here, we make way for the Light of the present to show us the reality of Love’s presence.

We Are Always Safe in God’s Peace

Your peace is with me, Father.  I am safe.

Your peace surrounds me, Father. Where I go, Your peace goes there with me. It sheds its light on everyone I meet. I bring it to the desolate and lonely and afraid. I give Your peace to those who suffer pain, or grieve for loss, or think they are bereft of hope and happiness. Send them to me, my Father. Let me bring Your peace with me. For I would save Your Son, as is Your Will, that I may come to recognize my Self.

And so we go in peace. To all the world we give the message that we have received. And thus we come to hear the Voice for God, Who speaks to us as we relate His Word; Whose Love we recognize because we share the Word that He has given unto us. Another Workbook Lesson tells us that God goes with us wherever we go. That is why His peace is always with us. But we must be willing to accept His gift of peace or its presence remains unknown to us.

The invitation for our Father to send us those who need to feel God’s peace is a gift, for the practice of offering peace to a distressed brother reinforces for us the awareness that God’s peace is within us now. The more we practice remembering His peace within us and extend that peace to our brothers, the more we learn that we can count on God’s peaceful Presence in every moment.

This is the lesson we must learn to free ourselves from the ego’s messages of fear and guilt. Our true Self is united with our Creator in His peace. This can never change. But because of our long-time dedication to the ego’s goal of separation from our Creator, we need to frequently affirm that God’s peace is with us to open our minds to accept God’s Presence. This is how we build confidence that we are always safe in God’s changeless peace. This is how we teach what we need to learn.
