Finding God’s Peace Through Forgiveness

You will not find peace except the peace of God. …There is nothing else for you to find except the peace of God, unless you seek for misery and pain.

This is the final point to which each one must come at last, to lay aside all hope of finding happiness where there is none;

…you can ask as easily for love, for happiness, and for eternal life in peace that has no ending. Ask for this, and you can only win. To ask for what you have already must succeed. To ask that what is false be true can only fail. Forgive yourself for vain imaginings, and seek no longer what you cannot find.

What does forgiveness do? In truth it has no function, and does nothing. For it is unknown in Heaven. It is only hell where it is needed, and where it must serve a mighty function. Is not the escape of God’s beloved Son from evil dreams that he imagines, yet believes are true, a worthy purpose? Who could hope for more, while there appears to be a choice to make between success and failure; love and fear?

Peace is the bridge that everyone will cross, to leave this world behind. But peace begins within the world perceived as differ­ent, and leading from this fresh perception to the gate of Heaven and the way beyond. Peace is the answer to conflicting goals, to senseless journeys, frantic, vain pursuits, and meaningless endeavors. Now the way is easy, sloping gently toward the bridge where freedom lies within the peace of God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 200, W-pI.200.1:2,5;2:1;3:1-5;6;8. The ego is a judgment against Love, a grievance against God for not giving the specialness the ego asked for. The dream of a world of separation is the ego’s attempt to fulfill its wish for specialness. Peace is an attribute of Love and cannot be found in a world where Love is denied. To seek for the peace of God, we need only clear away the ego’s barriers hiding God’s Love and peace. Forgiveness is the key to peace.

Today we practice vigilance for every thought that interferes with our experience of the peace of God. We offer each interfering thought to the Holy Spirit and ask for His help to let it go. He will guide us to see the illusions for what they are. With His help, we will learn that nothing has happened to harm God’s Son, our true Self. This practice is a journey of awakening to the Heaven that is our Home.

Letting the Love We Are Shine on the World

God is in everything I see because God is in my mind.

The idea for today is the springboard for vision. From this idea will the world open up before you, and you will look upon it and see in it what you have never seen before. Nor will what you saw before be even faintly visible to you.

Today we are trying to use a new kind of “projection.” We are not attempting to get rid of what we do not like by seeing it outside. Instead, we are trying to see in the world what is in our minds, and what we want to recognize is there. Thus, we are trying to join with what we see, rather than keeping it apart from us. That is the fundamental difference between vision and the way you see.

Real vision is not only unlimited by space and distance, but it does not depend on the body’s eyes at all. The mind is its only source. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 30, W-pI.30.1-2;5:1-2. See also ACIM Lesson 30 Insights.)

God’s Mind is the Mind of Love. Our true Mind is united with the Mind of Love. What our true Mind sees is only like Itself — It sees only Love. Thus real vision sees only the unity of Love. Nothing else exists in truth. Love is eternal and unlimited.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us see the World He sees. This is how we learn to see only Love and remember the Love we are. The images of the world fade from sight as we let the Light of Love shine in our mind. With this practice, we strengthen our awareness that we are one Self, united with our Creator in Love.

Our Safety Is in the Love We Are

God’s Name is holy, but no holier than yours. To call upon His Name is but to call upon your own. A father gives his son his name, and thus identifies the son with him. His brothers share his name, and thus are they united in a bond to which they turn for their identity. Your Father’s Name reminds you who you are, even within a world that does not know; even though you have not remembered it.

God’s Name can not be heard without response, nor said with­out an echo in the mind that calls you to remember. Say His Name, and you invite the angels to surround the ground on which you stand, and sing to you as they spread out their wings to keep you safe, and shelter you from every worldly thought that would intrude upon your holiness.

Repeat God’s Name, and all the world responds by laying down illusions. Every dream the world holds dear has suddenly gone by, and where it seemed to stand you find a star; a miracle of grace. The sick arise, healed of their sickly thoughts. The blind can see; the deaf can hear. The sorrowful cast off their mourning, and the tears of pain are dried as happy laughter comes to bless the world. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 183, W-pI.183.1-3. God’s Name is His Identity — Universal Love. His Name is also our own because He has shared His Identity with His Son. In the world we are told to shelter from the Covid-19 pandemic. Here we are told to accept the Identity God shares with everyone to be sheltered from “every worldly thought” of separation. We accept our true Identity by letting the Holy Spirit guide our thoughts. He will show us the eternal innocence of Love behind the illusions that seem to separate. With His Help, we learn that we are immune to the ego’s sickly thoughts. We are eternally safe in the Heart of Love.

Being a Beacon of Love’s Light

Love, which created me, is what I am.

I seek my own Identity, and find It in these words: “Love, which created me, is what I am.” Now need I seek no more. Love has prevailed. So still It waited for my coming home, that I will turn away no longer from the holy face of Christ. And what I look upon attests the truth of the Identity I sought to lose, but which my Father has kept safe for me.

Father, my thanks to You for what I am; for keeping my Identity untouched and sinless, in the midst of all the thoughts of sin my foolish mind made up. And thanks to You for saving me from them. Amen. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 229, W-pII.229. See also ACIM Lesson 229 Insights.)

Today let us be beacons of Love’s Light, shining upon a dark and stormy world where Love has been denied. It is still ever present, hidden only by false images of separation held in place by mistaken beliefs.

All this will pass as we focus our attention on the Light within us and remember Love created us like Itself. In the unity of Love, differences are overlooked as unreal. Appearances of lack and loss, anger and guilt are recognized as calls to remember that Love knows no limits. It remains What we are throughout eternity, unchanged by imaginings of a world of limitations.

We rest today in Love’s peace. We feel Its comfort and Its strength. As we accept the gift of Love as What we are, we light the way for our brothers to join with us in Its safety, compassion, innocence and joy. We are grateful for the gift of Love that unites us all as God’s Son.

Being a Messenger of Love to the World

Patience

Those who are certain of the outcome can afford to wait, and wait without anxiety. Patience is natural to the teacher of God. All he sees is certain outcome, at a time perhaps unknown to him as yet, but not in doubt. The time will be as right as is the answer. And this is true for everything that happens now or in the future. The past as well held no mistakes; nothing that did not serve to benefit the world, as well as him to whom it seemed to happen. Perhaps it was not understood at the time. Even so, the teacher of God is willing to reconsider all his past decisions, if they are causing pain to anyone. Patience is natural to those who trust. Sure of the ultimate interpretation of all things in time, no outcome already seen or yet to come can cause them fear. (A Course in Miracles, M-4.VIII)

The Course tells us that all things are lessons God would have us learn. The basic lesson the Holy Spirit has been given to teach us is that we remain united with our Creator as Love and nothing else. Anything we perceive that is not recognized as loving is a call for Love.

On the other hand, the ego perceives everything as “proof” that separation is real. Death the ultimate confirmation of the ego’s belief in separation. While we identify with the ego, we perceive a world of fear, guilt and loss. The ego is always on the lookout for opportunities to blame, attack and defend. Yet what the ego finds, the Holy Spirit reinterprets as opportunities to give Love. The current world perception of a pandemic is a world-wide call for Love. If we perceive it with fear, we are calling for Love. All the disasters, tragedies, wars and killings of the past the Holy Spirit sees as calls for Love.

Today we welcome the Holy Spirit’s lessons in Love. We are willing to accept His vision that sees past the veil of separation to the eternal unity of Love. With His help, we will see the loving answer to the world-wide call for Love. We will see the Holy Spirit’s loving answer to our fear-based calls for Love. As we join with the Holy Spirit, we become messengers of the Answer that brings Love to heal hate and fear, guilt and loss.

Today we choose to be messengers of Love.

Living as the Love We Are

In fearlessness and love I spend today.

This day, my Father, would I spend with You, as You have chosen all my days should be. And what I will experience is not of time at all. The joy that comes to me is not of days nor hours, for it comes from Heaven to Your Son. This day will be Your sweet reminder to remember You, Your gracious calling to Your holy Son, the sign Your grace has come to me, and that it is Your Will I be set free today.

We spend this day together, you and I. And all the world joins with us in our song of thankfulness and joy to Him Who gave salvation to us, and Who set us free. We are restored to peace and holiness. There is no room in us for fear today, for we have welcomed love into our hearts. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 310, W-pII.310. See also ACIM Lesson 310 Insights.)

Today we choose to spend the day in Love. We choose to spend the day seeing the world as our true Self sees it. We practice asking of everything, “How would Love see this? What would Love do in this situation? How would Love respond?”

As we let Love guide us throughout the day, we learn of our unbreakable union with our Creator and all our brothers, united as God’s one Son. The stressful thoughts of fear are dispelled as we remember we are eternally safe in the changelessness of Love. Our hearts are filled with gratitude and peace.

The Practice That Brings Lasting Happiness

Have you consistently appreciated the good efforts, and overlooked mistakes? Or has your appreciation flickered and grown dim in what seemed to be the light of the mistakes [of your brother]? Perhaps you are now entering upon a campaign to blame him for the discomfort of the situation in which you find yourself. And by this lack of thanks and gratitude you make yourself unable to express the holy instant, and thus lose sight of it.

To give thanks to your brother is to appreciate the holy instant, and thus enable its results to be accepted and shared. To attack [judge] your brother is not to lose the [holy] instant, but to make it powerless in its effects.

You have received the holy instant, but you may have established a condition [of attack] in which you cannot use it. As a result, you do not realize that [the holy instant] is with you still. And by cutting yourself off from its expression, you have denied yourself its benefit. You reinforce this every time you attack your brother, for the attack must blind you to yourself. And it is impossible to deny yourself, and to recognize what has been given and received by you. (A Course in Miracles, T-17.V.11:7-10;12:5-6;13. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

Love is the way we walk in gratitude. When we accept God’s gift of Love, joy comes with It. When we believe the appearances of the world are real, we are denying God’s Gift. Fear and unhappiness are inevitable while we deny the Love of our true Self.

Forgiveness clears away the barriers that blind us to the awareness of Love’s eternal presence. As we forgive, we let go of the judgments about what our brother seems to be or do. It frees us to appreciate the truth of the Love that our brother is. Judgment has yielded to joining in Love and we experience the joy of the eternal exchange of Love that occurs in the Heaven of God’s Love.

If we choose to judge the world we perceive, appreciation and happiness are impossible. If we choose to let the Holy Spirit help us forgive our judgments, the world becomes a place where Love is recognized everywhere. With consistent practice, the holy instants of forgiveness blend into the real world where forgiveness is complete. We accept God’s eternal welcome into the Heaven of His Love.
