Opportunities to Choose Christ’s Vision

³You always choose between your weakness and the strength of Christ in you. ⁴And what you choose is what you think is real. ⁵Simply by never using weakness to direct your actions, you have given it no power. ⁶And the light of Christ in you is given charge of everything you do. ⁷For you have brought your weakness unto Him, and He has given you His strength instead.

Trials are but lessons that you failed to learn presented once again, so where you made a faulty choice before you now can make a better one, and thus escape all pain that what you chose before has brought to you. ²In every difficulty, all distress, and each perplexity Christ calls to you and gently says, “My brother, choose again.” ³He would not leave one source of pain unhealed, nor any image left to veil the truth. ⁴He would remove all misery from you whom God created altar unto joy. ⁵He would not leave you comfortless, alone in dreams of hell, but would release your mind from everything that hides His face from you. ⁶His Holiness is yours because He is the only power that is real in you. ⁷His strength is yours because He is the Self that God created as His only Son.

The images you make cannot prevail against what God Himself would have you be. ²Be never fearful of temptation, then, but see it as it is; another chance to choose again, and let Christ’s strength prevail in every circumstance and every place you raised an image of yourself before. It doesn’t seem that we choose everything that we experience in this world. No one in their right mind would choose pain and suffering, fear and guilt. It is not our right mind that makes this choice. The insane believe what they perceive is real and true and will not raise it to question. They defend, even unto death, the “reality” of their perceptions.

Beneath these perceptions the Mind of Christ remains in us. It lovingly calls to us to choose a different way of seeing. It offers us the vision of Christ which sees beyond the false perceptions to the changeless, eternal presence of the Self God created one with Him in Love. We answer the call by reminding ourselves that we are God’s Son. We remain as He created us.

All God’s peace and strength are ours now. We free ourselves from our insane beliefs by bringing our perceptions to the Christ within with willingness to choose Christ’s vision to see them differently. With this practice, we bring healing to the world. We become messengers of God with the message that His peace is now and forever. We are His Love and His joy. We remain as God created us.

Claiming Our Real Life in God’s Love

Why would you not be overjoyed to be assured that all the evil that you think you did was never done, that all your sins are nothing, that you are as pure and holy as you were created, and that light and joy and peace abide in you? ²Your image of yourself cannot withstand the Will of God. ³You think that [the Will of God] is death, but it is life. ⁴You think you are destroyed, but you are saved.

The self you made is not the Son of God. ²Therefore, this self does not exist at all. ³And anything it seems to do and think means nothing. ⁴It is neither bad nor good. ⁵It is unreal, and nothing more than that.

Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. ²Over and over this must be repeated, until it is accepted. ³It is true. ⁴Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. ⁵Nothing can touch it, or change what God created as eternal. ⁶The self you made, evil and full of sin, is meaningless. ⁷Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God, and light and joy and peace abide in you.

If a situation arises that seems to be disturbing, quickly dispel the illusion of fear by repeating these thoughts again. ²Should you be tempted to become angry with someone, tell him silently:

³Light and joy and peace abide in you.

Our real Life is the Life we live in the Love of God. Because only God’s Love is real, we have no other life.

While we identify with the ego, we believe that we have another life. But this life could never be real because the ego denies the Source of Life. We need to change our mind, our belief, about what we are. This lesson is offering us a message we can tell ourselves to remind us that we live eternally in the Light, Love, joy and peace of God.

When our peace is disturbed, when we feel threatened, angry or guilty, we need to remind ourselves about the truth that is in us and that everyone is. This practice helps us let go of our mistaken identification with the ego and its false ideas about reality. The ego is nothing but false beliefs. It cannot threaten the truth in us because it is not real. Its images of limitation and loss only seem real while we believe in the false identity the ego offers. The more we remind ourselves and accept the Truth that lives in us, the less the ego influences our experience.

When we accept that Light and joy and peace abide in us, we remember Who we are. We know we are safe. We know we are complete and one with All in God’s Love. We accept the Life that God wills for us.

Turning Control Over to God

⁵You are but asked to let the future go, and place it in God’s Hands. ⁶And you will see by your experience that you have laid the past and present in His Hands as well, because the past will punish you no more, and future dread will now be meaningless.

²As [today’s idea] becomes a thought that rules your mind, a habit in your problem-solving repertoire, a way of quick reaction to temptation, you extend your learning to the world. ³And as you learn to see salvation in all things, so will the world perceive that it is saved.

What worry can beset the one who gives his future to the loving Hands of God? ²What can he suffer? ³What can cause him pain, or bring experience of loss to him? ⁴What can he fear? ⁵And what can he regard except with love? ⁶For he who has escaped all fear of future pain has found his way to present peace, and certainty of care the world can never threaten. ⁷He is sure that his perception may be faulty, but will never lack correction. ⁸He is free to choose again when he has been deceived; to change his mind when he has made mistakes.

Place, then, your future in the Hands of God. ²For thus you call the memory of Him to come again, replacing all your thoughts of sin and evil with the truth of love.

The ego is a control freak. If we identify with it, our lives are filled with worry that something might happen we cannot control. Or we are stressed with trying to control circumstances and fix other people to comply with what we think is right and good. Occasionally some things do go right, yet we worry that it will not last. And it won’t because illusions are inherently transitory.

It is time to turn control over to our Source Whose sole Will is that we share His peace, joy and Love. What He gives is real and eternal. When we accept His Will for us we have no worries, no efforting, no fear nor guilt. We rest in God’s peace, our eternal Home.

Learning to See God’s Son in Everyone

The Holy Spirit reaches from the Christ in you to all your dreams, and bids them come to Him, to be translated into truth. ²He will exchange them for the final dream which God appointed as the end of dreams. ³For when forgiveness rests upon the world and peace has come to every Son of God, what could there be to keep things separate, for what remains to see except Christ’s face?

And how long will this holy face be seen, when it is but the symbol that the time for learning now is over, and the goal of the Atonement has been reached at last? ²So therefore let us seek to find Christ’s face and look on nothing else. ³As we behold His glory, will we know we have no need of learning or perception or of time, or anything except the holy Self, the Christ Whom God created as His Son. (A Course in Miracles, W-pII.6.4:1–5:3)

We have taught ourselves to believe that a world of form, of separate images, space and time, is real. We have learned this lesson so well that we need a bridge to lead us out of this dream. That is why God gave His Son the Holy Spirit to help us undo the lessons we have learned which make a dream that could never be true.

Now we have the means to learn a new way of seeing that leads beyond time and space. It is the vision of Christ. The dream is populated by symbols which stand for something else. Under the ego’s lead, the symbols stand for nothing real. But the face of Christ represents the truth of our eternal unity in the Reality of God’s Love. As we welcome the Holy Spirit’s lessons, we learn to see the loving face of Christ in all our brothers. It stands for unity instead of the differences the ego’s images portray.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us translate our perception to recognize the presence of God’s Son, the Christ, in everyone today. With His help, we will see beyond the images of fear and guilt to the peace and Love of God, our true Home.

A Happy Practice

Father, Christ’s vision is Your gift to me, and it has power to translate all that the body’s eyes behold into the sight of a forgiven world. ²How glorious and gracious is this world! ³Yet how much more will I perceive in it than sight can give. ⁴The world forgiven signifies Your Son acknowledges his Father, lets his dreams be brought to truth, and waits expectantly the one remaining instant more of time which ends forever, as Your memory returns to him. ⁵And now his will is one with Yours. ⁶His function now is but Your Own, and every thought except Your Own is gone.

The quiet of today will bless our hearts, and through them peace will come to everyone. ²Christ is our eyes today. ³And through His sight we offer healing to the world through Him, the holy Son whom God created whole; the holy Son whom God created one. If we want to experience our unity with our Creator, we need to change our allegiance from a body identity to the Self God created as His Son. The body is a false image made by the ego as a substitute for God’s Creation. Our allegiance to the body blocks our awareness of our Self, Who is God’s Son.

When we give prominence to Christ’s vision in our minds, the images of a body and what it sees recede into the background. In the world those images still seem to be there. But through forgiveness, we pay less and less attention to them. We depend on Christ’s vision to show us the truth of Love’s presence beyond the ego’s images of separation. As we are willing to accept It, the Light of Love grows brighter and we experience the joy of joining with our brothers in the oneness of God’s Love. It is a happy practice.

The Blessing of Total Commitment

…in the holy instant, free of the past, you see that love is in you, and you have no need to look without and snatch love guiltily from where you thought it was.

All your relationships are blessed in the holy instant, because the blessing is not limited. ²In the holy instant the Sonship gains as one, and united in your blessing it becomes one to you. ³The meaning of love is the meaning God gave to it. ⁴Give to it any meaning apart from His, and it is impossible to understand it. ⁵God loves every brother as He loves you; neither less nor more. ⁶He needs them all equally, and so do you. ⁷In time, you have been told to offer miracles as I direct, and let the Holy Spirit bring to you those who are seeking you. ⁸Yet in the holy instant you unite directly with God, and all your brothers join in Christ. ⁹Those who are joined in Christ are in no way separate. ¹⁰For Christ is the Self the Sonship shares, as God shares His Self with Christ.

The Course tells us that a holy relationship is a total commitment. It is a commitment to the oneness of Love that is totally inclusive of all that is real, including our Self. It is a total commitment to the universal Love of God. This total commitment brings with it happiness and peace, for it recognizes that we are complete. Our only need is to accept the Love we are and extend It without limit. To be complete, Love must be extended. It cannot be limited and be true to Itself.

The ego does not understand this commitment. Its need for individuality and uniqueness denies the inclusiveness of Love. The ego can only attempt to commit to a part of a brother that it deems acceptable. But it excludes the rest of the Sonship and even part of the chosen special one. This is actually a commitment to nothing, for it is only a choice to accept an hallucination that could never be real.

Today we choose to join with the Holy Spirit in total commitment to the Love that joins us all with our Creator. With this dedication, we open our hearts and mind to the peace and joy of God.

Forgiving All Things

Truth will correct all errors in my mind.

²I am mistaken when I think I can be hurt in any way. ³I am God’s Son, whose Self rests safely in the Mind of God.

To give and to receive are one in truth.

²I will forgive all things today, that I may learn how to accept the truth in me, and come to recognize my sinlessness. (A Course in Miracles, W-119.1–2. See also ACIM Lesson 119 Insights.)

All our judgments reflect our belief in our own guilt. This. Comes with identifying with the ego as what we are. Our true Self remains eternally united with God’s Love. The innocence of God’s Love is ours. Our true Self does not judge, for It sees no cause for judgment. It sees only the innocence of the Love It is reflected back to It. Nothing else exists.

Forgiveness is only needed in a dream that opposes the oneness of Love. This opposition makes us unaware of our true Self. To wake up from this loveless dream, we have only one task: Bring all our judgments, our interpretations of our perceptions to the Holy Spirit with willingness to receive His true perception in exchange. This is the exchange of illusions for truth. In truth we remember we are eternally safe in the Mind of Love. This is how we forgive all things and accept the truth.
