Remembering the Holy Spirit Is Our Best Friend

³You are afraid to know God’s Will, because you believe it is not yours. ⁴This belief is your whole sickness and your whole fear. ⁵Every symptom of sickness and fear arises here, because this is the belief that makes you want not to know. ⁶Believing this you hide in darkness, denying that the light is in you.

You are asked to trust the Holy Spirit only because He speaks for you. ²He is the Voice for God, but never forget that God did not will to be alone. ³He shares His Will with you; He does not thrust it upon you. ⁴Always remember that what He gives He keeps, so that nothing He gives can contradict Him. ⁵You who share His life must share it to know it, for sharing is knowing. ⁶Blessed are you who learn that to hear the Will of your Father is to know your own. ⁷For it is your will to be like Him, Whose Will it is that it be so. ⁸God’s Will is that His Son be one, and united with Him in His Oneness. ⁹That is why healing is the beginning of the recognition that your will is His. The Holy Spirit is our best Friend because He represents both our true Self and our Creator. We can depend on Him to advise us on everything that is in our best interest. We can count on Him to help us awaken to the Love we are. He will show us the Love that surrounds us and unites us with the truth in every brother in the Love of God.

We are afraid of the Holy Spirit’s advice because we think He does not represent our Self. This is because we have identified with a false self, the ego, who opposes our true Self in every way. Its opposition is so complete that it does not even know of our true Self. The ego is the demand for autonomy. It tries to usurp our true Self by making a dream of fear, guilt and loss.

But we are not imprisoned by the ego. We have the key to set us free in the Holy Spirit Who remains with us no matter what dreams we make. Today we choose to remember our best Friend and follow Him in the way of Love. Thus we will awaken to the oneness that we share with God and every brother.

Embracing the Purpose That Restores Us to Peace

God does not suffer conflict. ²Nor is His creation split in two. ³How could it be His Son could be in hell, when God Himself established him in Heaven? ⁴Could he lose what the Eternal Will has given him to be his home forever? ⁵Let us not try longer to impose an alien will upon God’s single purpose. ⁶He is here because He wills to be, and what He wills is present now, beyond the reach of time.

²No one can fail who seeks to reach the truth, and it is truth we seek to reach today. …we will ask to see the rising of the real world to replace the foolish images that we hold dear, with true ideas arising in the place of thoughts that have no meaning, no effect, and neither source nor substance in the truth.

Remember often that today should be a time of special gladness, and refrain from dismal thoughts and meaningless laments. ²Salvation’s time has come. ³Today is set by Heaven itself to be a time of grace for you and for the world. ⁴If you forget this happy fact, remind yourself with this:

⁵Today I seek and find all that I want.
⁶My single purpose offers it to me.
⁷No one can fail who seeks to reach the truth. (A Course in Miracles, W-131.8:1-6;10:2-3;15. See also ACIM Lesson 131 Insights.)

There is nothing to be sad about, nothing to be angry about, nothing to feel guilty about. Only the illusions of this world seem to be cause for these emotions.

In truth we live in the Love of God, which never changes, can never suffer loss and forever blesses. The world we see denies Love’s Presence.  When we embrace our single purpose to forgive our mistaken beliefs, we awaken to the truth that we remain Love as God created us. We find the peace and happiness that is our natural condition.

Removing the Barriers to Happiness

²My function here is to forgive the world for all the errors I have made. ³For thus am I released from them with all the world.”

²I am essential to the plan of God for the salvation of the world. ³For He gave me His plan that I might save the world. (A Course in Miracles, W-115.1:2-3;2:2-3. See also ACIM Lesson 115 Insights.)

Our function is not to project; the world we perceive is simply a projection. We do not see the real world until we see ourselves as one with it. When we accept oneness, all form disappears.

All our judgments are barriers to our happiness. Judgment brings anxiety, deprivation, anger, frustration, sadness, loneliness, isolation, depression, conflict and regret, none of which we equate with happiness.

If we want to be happy, we have to give up judgment. That is our only function.

Forgiveness Is a Gift We Give Ourselves

Sink into happiness…. ²Today it will be given you to feel the peace forgiveness offers, and the joy the lifting of the veil holds out to you.

Before the light you will receive today the world will fade until it disappears, and you will see another world arise you have no words to picture. ²Now we walk directly into light, and we receive the gifts that have been held in store for us since time began, kept waiting for today.

Forgiveness offers everything you want. ²Today all things you want are given you. ³Let not your gifts recede throughout the day, as you return again to meet a world of shifting change and bleak appearances. ⁴Retain your gifts in clear awareness as you see the changeless in the heart of change; the light of truth behind appearances. We already have all of God’s Love. Only our mistaken wish to have more, to be special, makes us unaware of the Gift that is ours now. Forgiveness of this mistaken wish will return us to the Light of Love we never lost.

As we forgive, we return our awareness fully to the Love in which we live and have our being. We accept God’s blessing, which was never lost. Today we remind ourselves often that forgiveness offers everything we really want.

Choosing to Believe in Love’s Reality

⁷You chose to forget your Father but you do not really want to do so, and therefore you can decide otherwise. ⁸As it was my decision, so is it yours.

⁴Christ’s eyes are open, and He will look upon whatever you see with love if you accept His vision as yours. ⁵The Holy Spirit keeps the vision of Christ for every Son of God who sleeps. ⁶In His sight the Son of God is perfect, and He longs to share His vision with you. ⁷He will show you the real world because God gave you Heaven. ⁸Through Him your Father calls His Son to remember. ⁹The awakening of His Son begins with his investment in the real world, and by this he will learn to re-invest in himself. ¹⁰For reality is one with the Father and the Son, and the Holy Spirit blesses the real world in Their Name.

When you have seen this real world, as you will surely do, you will remember Us. ²Yet you must learn the cost of sleeping, and refuse to pay it. ³Only then will you decide to awaken. (A Course in Miracles, T-12.VI.2:7-8;4:4–5:3. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

We have the power to choose what we want to invest our belief in. Belief has no power unless we invest it. Where we invest our belief determines what we experience. If we invest our belief in images of separation, we experience a world of fear and guilt because it denies the reality of Love’s oneness.

We are always free to change where we invest our belief. We can invest in the Reality of Love and remember we remain forever united with our Creator. This investment brings belief to acceptance of all that is real. It is investing our belief in the Life we live in Love. In this Life we see every brother as one with us, joined with our Creator in the Heaven of His Love.

Recognizing Peace and Joy Are Ours Now

³The only purpose worthy of your mind this world contains is that you pass it by…

Pause and be still a little while, and see how far you rise above the world, when you release your mind from chains and let it seek the level where it finds itself at home. ²It will be grateful to be free a while. ³It knows where it belongs. ⁴But free its wings, and it will fly in sureness and in joy to join its holy purpose. ⁵Let [your mind] rest in its Creator, there to be restored to sanity, to freedom and to love.

Give it ten minutes rest three times today. ²And when your eyes are opened afterwards, you will not value anything you see as much as when you looked at it before. ³Your whole perspective on the world will shift by just a little, every time you let your mind escape its chains. ⁴The world is not where it belongs. ⁵And you belong where it would be, and where it goes to rest when you release it from the world. ⁶Your Guide is sure. ⁷Open your mind to Him. ⁸Be still and rest.

Protect your mind throughout the day as well. ²And when you think you see some value in an aspect or an image of the world, refuse to lay this chain upon your mind, but tell yourself with quiet certainty:

³This will not tempt me to delay myself.

The happiness and peace we desire cannot be found in the dream of separation. The images only seem to have value because we have accepted the ego’s goal of being unique and special. Because the oneness of Love is all that is real, the images of the world are illusions and have no real value.

To learn this, we need to recognize that this world holds nothing of value. We already have God’s gift of all of His Love. That is the real value of everyone and everything. We do not need to seek for Love. We need to accept It by joining with Its eternal extension. In this joining, we become co-creators with God.

As we learn to pass by the forms of this world and join in Love’s extension, we will recognize that God’s peace and joy are ours now.

Learning to See Love’s Reflection in the World

There is another way of looking at the world.

Today’s idea is an attempt to recognize that you can shift your perception of the world in both its outer and inner aspects.

…when any situation arises which tempts you to become disturbed. …say:

⁴There is another way of looking at this.

Remember to apply today’s idea the instant you are aware of distress. (A Course in Miracles, W-33.1:1;3:2–4:1. See also ACIM Lesson 33 Insights.)

No matter how stuck we believe we are in the dream, we are always free to change our perception. The perception itself is an illusion, but it can be changed to recognize the reflection of Love’s Reality. This lesson offers a simple but powerful practice that can help us perceive Love’s reflection in the world.

As we let this be a consistent recognition, the doorway to Heaven is seen as open and welcoming. It is a practice that brings us Home to the Heaven of God’s Love.
