Being Truly Helpful

Holy Spirit to Robert:
When you say “I am here only to be truly helpful,” you are saying that you want to serve Love. Love is formless and cannot be experienced within the thought system of separation. But Love can be extended into the world and expressed in a form that leads away from the illusion of separation and toward the recognition that only Love is real.

You do this by choosing Me as your Guide in all your doing. I know how everything effects everything, because I see the whole. I can guide you in a way to be helpful in peace, without guilt and fear. Thus what is truly helpful always leads to forgiveness and opening to Love.

I am not deceived by false needs so My guidance will always lead to fulfillment of the one need that is universal in the world — the need to remember Love. Let Me/Love be your guide today and you will be truly helpful.

Mary:
As I go into a place of quiet, I am reminded that peace is my one goal… I am guided to let myself accept the Holy Spirit’s peace that is always there for me… It is my job to be willing to accept the peace of my true Nature… I take a deep breath and let every thought be filled with the peace of God… I take time now to rest in God’s peace… It is from this place of peace that I am truly helpful.

Desire to Recognize Love

Holy Spirit to Mary:
Love is always present behind every dream of separation… Learn to focus on the truth instead of illusions… Be open-minded enough to receive the awareness of Love’s presence… Let this be your focus for today…

Opening your mind to be aware of Love’s presence brings you peace and happiness. It helps you know that behind every illusion Love is always there. Let yourself receive the gifts that come with willingness to remember the truth. Let yourself remember that Love is always there.

You, along with every brother, reside in the Mind of Love right now. You are in Love’s heavenly peace right now. Desire to recognize Love and you will find It is there for you to see. Enjoy this day of remembering the truth that only Love is real. It is worth the vigilance.

Holy Spirit to Robert:
In all your doing remember this: Only Love matters. This implies that the only meaningful purpose is the extension of Love. In the world you make way for the extension of Love through forgiveness — letting go of the images of the world, letting go of the past.

As you hold your mind and heart open to Love’s lead, your activities and expression in the world will extend Love. Your thoughts, your conversations, your interpretations of what you see, your plans will serve Love’s extension when you follow Love’s lead. Do not attempt to interpret what anything means on your own.

Be vigilant to maintain your awareness of Love’s presence and you will be serving Love. This is how you will remember that you are Love.

Decide for Love

Mary:
This morning we read section 13 in the Manual for Teachers of A Course in Miracles. This is what stood out:

Decide for God, and everything is given you at no cost at all. Decide against Him, and you choose nothing, at the expense of the awareness of everything. What would you teach? Remember only what you would learn. For it is here that your concern should be. Atonement is for you. Your learning claims it and your learning gives it. (ACIM, M-13.8:2-8)

My opportunity for today is to remember only what I would learn. My Teacher, the Holy Spirit, brings me back to God. The Holy Spirit helps me see past bodies to the truth of Love’s oneness. This is what I would learn. I find that it takes constant vigilance and stepping back from what I think I know. This is my practice today.

Robert:
This section of the Manual explains that the true meaning of sacrifice is that it is the cost of believing in a separate identity. Since a separate identity could never be real, believing that I am separate blinds me to the awareness of God’s gift of Love. I sacrifice awareness of my true Identity when I want a situation to turn out to my liking, when I want someone to behave in a certain way or say a certain thing. I sacrifice awareness of my Identity whenever I judge anything. This is why forgiveness is the gateway to the return to the one Self that is God’s creation and that is our shared Identity.

Today is a day of vigilance to recognize judgments and offer them to the Holy Spirit for reinterpretation so that I may see the reality of Love.

Inviting the Memory of God

Robert:
I want to remember Who I am. I want to let go of the false concept of myself that I have substituted for the Self that God created. A Course in Miracles provides many exercises and practices designed to help me recognize that I do not want the image I have made. It tells me that if I truly saw the Self that God created, the false image I have made would have no appeal whatsoever. 

One of the most emphasized ideas is that I am not a body. This is so important that it dedicates 20 days to reminding ourselves that “I am not a body. I am free. I am still as God created me” at least hourly all day long. (ACIM, W-pI.VI.3)

Establishing this idea firmly in my mind prepares the way for me to be open to accepting the Self that God created as my true Identity. The truth about me and everyone is that we remain Love as Love created us. If I believe that anyone is a body, I will inevitably judge them for I see them as different from me. This judgment stands between me and my recognition of the Self that Love created. It is easier to forgive as I remember that the image that my body’s eyes show me is not the truth about anybody, including me. This is a necessary step to prepare my mind to receive the forgiveness that comes with the vision of Christ instead of the image making of the body.

Today I will remind myself often, “I am not a body. I am free. For I am still as God created me.” As I look on a brother I will remind myself, “You are not a body. You are free. You are still as God created you.” This will open my mind and heart to receive the gift of true vision that Holy Spirit offers me so that I can remember Who I am.

Mary:
My job today and every day is to invite the memory of God to return to my mind. I am not a separate person with a mind of my own. This is just a false idea to be undone. In truth, God is my Source and I have not left Him. That is why it is so important that I am willing to reinforce as frequently as possible that what I see with the body’s eyes is not the truth. I must be willing to remember that I am eternal Spirit along with every brother I see in this false world of unique bodies which have special interests of their own.

It is the Holy Spirit that will retrain my mind as I am willing to come to Him in silence. Willingness is what is required. This is my practice for today if I truly want to let the memory of God return to my mind.

Accepting My True Self

Robert:
When I identify with my true Self, I “feel a deep content, a certainty of help, a calm assurance Heaven goes with [me].” (A Course in Miracles, T-29.IX.9:1)

The fact that I perceive a world of conflict and differences, uncertainty and vulnerability shows me that I have bought into the thought system of separation and judgment. Judgment is the mechanism that makes separation seem real. It is the denial of what I really am and thus makes me unaware of the Self that Love created.

What I really want is to remember and accept my true Self. To do this I need to let go of the defense against What I am. I need to let go of judgment. I need to be willing to make no decision on my own and choose instead to open my mind and heart to Love’s inspiration. It is Love that will show me the truth behind all appearances. Love will show me that in truth there is nothing to judge, for there is no “other.” Love will show me that I remain united with all that is real.

Today I choose to hold my mind open to be guided by the Self that has never changed. This is how I will remember Who I am.

Mary:
The question that helps me remember the truth when I feel in a place of doubt is, “What am I and where am I in truth?”

I find opening to Holy Spirit’s answer very helpful in returning me to a state of mind that is truly healing. When it comes down to it, this is what I really want. This is how I have a happy day. In truth, “What am I and where am I?” brings me back to where I need to be. This is an invitation to the Holy Spirit to help me remember that I am Spirit. There is only one Mind and that is the one Mind of Love.

Letting this truth of what I am and where I am return brings me peace and quiet inner joy. My practice today is to ask myself frequently, “What am I and where am I in truth?”

Seeing Differently

Robert:
When I rest my body and sleep at night, the body relaxes. I have observed that when I let go of my mind chatter and go to the quiet place in my mind, I also relax.

I recognize that the mind chatter is mostly coming from my sense of being a separate identity and a need to protect and provide for that identity. But when I go to the quiet place in my mind, I remember that I have already been given all that I need and it remains part of me because I am still united with my Source. There is no conflict in this place of peace and so I relax.

There is great value in taking time each day to go to that quiet place and remember that I remain as Love created me. The truth in me is conflict free. It is safe to relax now. I am grateful that this place of peace is with me always. I am grateful for the gift of peace.

Mary:
This morning we read A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 28, “Above all else I want to see things differently.” I have been used to seeing things in terms of separation and individuality and differences. It is my true Self That will show me the Light of Love behind every false perception of differences as I am willing.

This is my practice today — to be willing to step back and be shown the truth of Love’s oneness. I need to step back again and again to be returned to the truth. Today I make the commitment to see things through the eyes of oneness.

Letting Go of Pretenses

Mary:
Recently it has come to me that the world is like a big masquerade ball with everyone in costumes. The costumes people are wearing are not what they are. The costumes are just a big pretense in an effort to have “fun.” When we take the costume ball too seriously, we forget that everyone is just wearing a costume. We forget the one Mind of Love Which we all are.

We are now coming to the time when there is a growing willingness to see past the costumes to the one Divine Light of Love we all are. This growing willingness is bringing us to a stage where we can smile at the costumes and not take them so seriously. We are beginning to recognize that they are just costumes and that the whole costume ball is just a pretense. The scary stories seem less frightening because we start to sense the Love behind the fear. A sense of gentleness and peace rises to the surface as the costumes are recognized as meaningless pretenses.

What a joy it is to join together in this time of moving past pretenses to the truth. The fact that we are all the same Light and that there is no distance between us becomes more evident. We remember that we rest in the pure Love of God and that the stories are just stories — not to be taken seriously. We now join joyfully with every brother in the process of awakening from the pretense of separation. This is our only purpose now.

Robert:
If I want to wake up from the dream of pretenses, I need to be mindful of who I think I am in each moment. If I am identifying with a pretense of a separate identity, there will always be a sense of vulnerability, fear and guilt. As I redirect my attention to the truth of What I am, the pretense fades and I recognize my perfect safety and perfect happiness in the oneness of my Source. This is what I really want.

So today I will focus on walking hand in hand with Holy Spirit to share His vision and remember to gently laugh at the pretenses as I let them go. As I remember this I will have a day of happy laughter.
