Learning to Recognize Our Wholeness

Take pity on yourself, so long enslaved. ²Rejoice whom God hath joined have come together and need no longer look on sin apart. …⁴Sin is a strictly individual perception, seen in the other yet believed by each to be within himself.

Who has need for sin? ²Only the lonely and alone, who see their brothers different from themselves. ³It is this difference, seen but not real, that makes the need for sin, not real but seen, seem justified. ⁴And all this would be real if sin were so. ⁵For an unholy relationship is based on differences, where each one thinks the other has what he has not.

A holy relationship starts from a different premise. ²Each one has looked within and seen no lack. ³Accepting his completion, he would extend it by joining with another, whole as himself. ⁴He sees no difference between these selves, for differences are only of the body.

Think what a holy relationship can teach! ²Here is belief in differences undone. ³Here is the faith in differences shifted to sameness. ⁴And here is sight of differences transformed to vision. …⁶It must extend, as you extended when you and he joined. ⁷It must reach out beyond itself, as you reached out beyond the body, to let you and your brother be joined. ⁸And now the sameness that you saw extends and finally removes all sense of differences, so that the sameness that lies beneath them all becomes apparent. Perception of differences is the foundation of the dream of fear and guilt. Without differences there is no justification for attack nor loss. The fact that God’s Love is uniformly one, with no differences, keeps us eternally safe in the Heart of God.

We have the means within our mind to awaken us from our dream of fear and guilt to the Life we live in Love. Our willingness to let the Holy Spirit show us the reality of Love beyond every appearance of differences opens the door to our return to Heaven, the Home we never truly left.

Today we practice looking on every brother as an opportunity to see him united with us in Love. In the recognition of his wholeness, we join with him and awaken to Love.

Remembering Our Natural State of Mind

‘There is no will but God’s’ can be regarded as the central thought toward which all our exercises are directed. ²God’s is the only Will. ³When you have recognized this, you have recognized that your will is His. ⁴The belief that conflict is possible has gone. ⁵Peace has replaced the strange idea that you are torn by conflicting goals. ⁶As an expression of the Will of God, you have no goal but His.

There is great peace in today’s idea…. ²The idea itself is wholly true. ³Therefore it cannot give rise to illusions. ⁴Without illusions conflict is impossible.

²There is no will but God’s. ³I cannot be in conflict.…
⁵I am at peace.
⁶Nothing can disturb me. ⁷My will is God’s.
⁸My will and God’s are one.
⁹God wills peace for His Son.”

This lesson reminds us of the condition that is our natural state of mind. It is not something we must achieve, but something we must let be. Only our insistence on having a unique identity that we can call our own makes us unaware of this state of mind.

The affirmations given here help us focus on the conditions of our true Self. Our true Self remains as God created It. It shares His Will. No other “will” exists in truth.

Today we can be grateful that we share God’s Will. As we acknowledge this, we find peace that cannot be disturbed.

Remembering the Love That Unites Us

To give and to receive are one in truth.

Vision depends upon today’s idea. ²The light is in it, for it reconciles all seeming opposites. ³And what is light except the resolution, born of peace, of all your conflicts and mistaken thoughts into one concept which is wholly true? ⁴Even that one will disappear, because the Thought behind it will appear instead to take its place. ⁵And now you are at peace forever, for the dream is over then.

True light that makes true vision possible is not the light the body’s eyes behold. ²It is a state of mind that has become so unified that darkness cannot be perceived at all. ³And thus what is the same is seen as one, while what is not the same remains unnoticed, for it is not there.

This is the light that shows no opposites, and vision, being healed, has power to heal. ²This is the light that brings your peace of mind to other minds, to share it and be glad that they are one with you and with themselves. ³This is the light that heals because it brings single perception, based upon one frame of reference, from which one meaning comes.

Here are both giving and receiving seen as different aspects of one Thought whose truth does not depend on which is seen as first, nor which appears to be in second place. ²Here it is understood that both occur together, that the Thought remain complete. The Light of Love dispels all images of separation. It sees only Love because only Love is real. It does not see any conflict or potential loss because the eternal giving and receiving of Love never changes. It is this Love that unites us with our Father and all our brothers.

The vision this Light brings cannot be seen with the body’s eyes. It is seen in our mind where the unity of Love is our Identity. Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us see truly and remember the Love we share with our Father and brothers.

The Intention That Brings Us Peace

God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day.

It is quite possible to listen to God’s Voice all through the day without interrupting your regular activities in any way. ²The part of your mind in which truth abides is in constant communication with God, whether you are aware of it or not.

The part that is listening to the Voice for God is calm, always at rest and wholly certain. ²It is really the only part there is. ³The other part is a wild illusion, frantic and distraught, but without reality of any kind. ⁴Try today not to listen to it. ⁵Try to identify with the part of your mind where stillness and peace reign forever. ⁶Try to hear God’s Voice call to you lovingly, reminding you that your Creator has not forgotten His Son.

Listen in deep silence. ²Be very still and open your mind. ³Go past all the raucous shrieks and sick imaginings that cover your real thoughts and obscure your eternal link with God. ⁴Sink deep into the peace that waits for you beyond the frantic, riotous thoughts and sights and sounds of this insane world. ⁵You do not live here. ⁶We are trying to reach your real home. ⁷We are trying to reach the place where you are truly welcome. ⁸We are trying to reach God.

…be sure to sit quietly and repeat the idea for today whenever you can, closing your eyes on the world, and realizing that you are inviting God’s Voice to speak to you. (A Course in Miracles, W-49.1:1-2;2;4;5:3. See also ACIM Lesson 49 Insights.)

There is a part of us that is in constant communication with our Father. It never sleeps. But we have buried this part under the constant chatter of the ego, keeping us preoccupied with maintaining the seeming reality of individuality and separate bodies.

We have the means to direct our attention to the Voice that speaks to us of our Home in perfect peace, joy without limit and oneness in eternal Love. This access begins with willingness to become aware of the center of stillness within. The more we practice focusing on this quiet center, the more easily we will open our mind to listen to this Voice.

In quietness, we welcome the message of our oneness in Love. We see past the dream figures and recognize the Light that illuminates our mind with the truth that we are Love eternally. When we start the day with this intention, and practice pausing frequently throughout the day, we will experience a day of happiness and peace.

Remembering Our Unity in God’s Love

⁴If you remain as God created you fear has no meaning, evil is not real, and misery and death do not exist.

²All this has not occurred, if you remain as God created you. ³You need no thought but just this one, to let redemption come to light the world and free it from the past.

In this one thought is all the past undone; the present saved to quietly extend into a timeless future. ²If you are as God created you, then there has been no separation of your mind from His, no split between your mind and other minds, and only unity within your own.

The healing power of today’s idea is limitless. ²It is the birthplace of all miracles, the great restorer of the truth to the awareness of the world. ³Practice today’s idea with gratitude. ⁴This is the truth that comes to set you free. ⁵This is the truth that God has promised you. ⁶This is the Word in which all sorrow ends. This is a central message of A Course in Miracles. The full acceptance of this ideal will awaken us from the dream of separation. We will know that we are united in the oneness of God’s Love.

A way to remind ourselves of this idea is to say to ourselves when we see or think of someone: “You are as God created you. I am as God created me. We are one in His Love.”

Answering Love’s Call

In you there is no separation, and no substitute can keep you from your brother. ²Your reality was God’s creation, and has no substitute. ³You are so firmly joined in truth that only God is there. ⁴And He would never accept something else instead of you. ⁵He loves you both, equally and as one.

You have been called, together with your brother, to the most holy function this world contains. ²It is the only one that has no limits, and reaches out to every broken fragment of the Sonship with healing and uniting comfort. ³This is offered you, in your holy relationship. ⁴Accept it here, and you will give as you have accepted. ⁵The peace of God is given you with the glowing purpose in which you join with your brother. ⁶The holy light that brought you and him together must extend, as you accepted it. We are all called to recognize that we are one with every brother in God’s Love. This is our Reality. This is a call to see beyond the body, which the ego uses to hide our Reality. Beyond the body, and all the images of separation in the world, is the unity of Love. In this unity there is perfect peace, for there are no differences to disturb us. In this oneness, there is joy beyond words, for it contains the eternal giving and receiving of Love.

Each time we forgive, we set aside a barrier to our awareness of Love’s presence. Today we practice pausing to center on the peace within and answer the call to see the Love in our brothers.

Letting Love Be Our Inspiration

There is a light that this world cannot give. ²Yet you can give it, as it was given you. ³And as you give it, it shines forth to call you from the world and follow it. ⁴For this light will attract you as nothing in this world can do. ⁵And you will lay aside the world and find another. ⁶This other world is bright with love which you have given it. ⁷And here will everything remind you of your Father and His holy Son. ⁸Light is unlimited, and spreads across this world in quiet joy. ⁹All those you brought with you will shine on you, and you will shine on them in gratitude because they brought you here. ¹⁰Your light will join with theirs in power so compelling, that it will draw the others out of darkness as you look on them.

Awaking unto Christ is following the laws of love of your free will, and out of quiet recognition of the truth in them. ²The attraction of light must draw you willingly, and willingness is signified by giving. ³Those who accept love of you become your willing witnesses to the love you gave them, and it is they who hold it out to you. ⁴In sleep you are alone, and your awareness is narrowed to yourself. ⁵And that is why the nightmares come. ⁶You dream of isolation because your eyes are closed. ⁷You do not see your brothers, and in the darkness you cannot look upon the light you gave to them. The body’s eyes are part of the illusion of separation, which denies Love’s oneness. They cannot see the truth in our brothers. But we have Christ’s vision in our mind which sees only the Love that is the true Identity of everyone. The Love that is our true Self gives love freely to all. This Love is reflected back to us, reminding us of our true Identity. We receive what we give.

Today we ask that Love be our Guide. We want Love to be our inspiration in our thoughts, words and actions.
