Being Led by the Light of Love

Creation leans across the bars of time to lift the heavy burden from the world. Lift up your hearts to greet its advent. See the shadows fade away in gentleness; the thorns fall softly from the bleeding brow of him who is the holy Son of God. How lovely are you, child of Holiness! How like to Me! How lovingly I hold you in My Heart and in My Arms. How dear is every gift to Me that you have made, who healed My Son and took him from the cross. Arise and let My thanks be given you. And with My gratitude will come the gift first of forgiveness, then eternal peace.

So now return your holy voice to Me. The song of prayer is silent without you. The universe is waiting your release because it is its own. Be kind to it and to yourself, and then be kind to Me. I ask but this; that you be comforted and live no more in terror and in pain. Do not abandon Love. Remember this; whatever you may think about yourself, whatever you may think about the world, your Father needs you and will call to you until you come to Him in peace at last. (A Course in Miracles, S-3.IV.9-10)

Together we are God’s Son. We crucify His Son when we choose to identify with the ego, which is the denial of our unbreakable unity with God. This denial blocks our awareness of His gifts of eternal Love, joy and peace. This is the cross we bear by our choice to believe we are separated from God.

This need not be. We can choose once again to accept the truth of our eternal unity with Love, where peace abides and joy is limitless. These are the gifts that are God’s Will for us. Our choice to accept the help of the Holy Spirit to undo our mistaken choices takes us down off the cross and brings peace to our holy mind.

Today we practice accepting Holy Spirit’s help to reinterpret all our perceptions in the Light of Love. With His help, we bring healing to the world. We become Love’s messengers as we accept Love for ourselves and share It. We join in the song of Love and remember our Home in Love’s reality.

Joining in Love’s Eternal Song

[Christ] comes for Me and speaks My Word to you. I would recall My weary Son to Me from dreams of malice to the sweet embrace of everlasting Love and perfect peace. My Arms are open to the Son I love, who does not understand that he is healed, and that his prayers have never ceased to sing his joyful thanks in unison with all creation, in the holiness of Love. Be still an instant. Underneath the sounds of harsh and bitter striving and defeat there is a Voice that speaks to you of Me. Hear this an instant and you will be healed. Hear this an instant and you have been saved.

Help Me to wake My children from the dream of retribution and a little life beset with fear, that ends so soon it might as well have never been. Let Me instead remind you of eternity, in which your joy grows greater as your love extends along with Mine beyond infinity, where time and distance have no meaning. While you wait in sorrow Heaven’s melody is incomplete, because your song is part of the eternal harmony of love. Without you is creation unfulfilled. Return to Me Who never left My Son. Listen, My child, your Father calls to you. Do not refuse to hear the Call for Love. Do not deny to Christ what is His Own. Heaven is here and Heaven is your home. (A Course in Miracles, S-3.IV.7-8)

It doesn’t seem that when we experience the sadness, loneliness, vulnerability, anger, fear and guilt of the ego’s dream of separation that we have never ceased to sing our joyful thanks in unison with all creation. This is because the ego is the denial of our true Self and our unity with Love. It is this denial that leads to our experience of a world without Love’s oneness.

Yet our denial has had no effect whatsoever on our natural, uninterrupted unity with the Song of Love that is our Home. Love calls to us to return from the dream to the Reality of Love we never left in truth. Forgiveness leads the way and brings gratitude with it. Gratitude welcomes the joy of extending Love without limit. This joy is magnified by God’s joy returned to us.

Each time we are willing to accept the vision of Christ instead of the ego’s myopic identification with separation, we welcome the Song of Love into our hearts. We welcome God into our heart. We remember we are safe at Home in the Heart of Love.

Choose Peace Today

Do not choose amiss, or you will think that it is you who are creator in [God’s] place, and He is then no longer Cause but only an effect. Now healing is impossible, for He is blamed for your deception and your guilt. He Who is Love becomes the source of fear, for only fear can now be justified. Vengeance is His. His great destroyer, death. And sickness, suffering and grievous loss become the lot of everyone on earth, which He abandoned to the devil’s care, swearing He will deliver it no more.

Come unto Me, My children, once again, without such twisted thoughts upon your hearts. You still are holy with the Holiness which fathered you in perfect sinlessness, and still surrounds you with the Arms of peace. Dream now of healing. Then arise and lay all dreaming down forever. You are he your Father loves, who never left his home, nor wandered in a savage world with feet that bleed, and with a heavy heart made hard against the love that is the truth in you. Give all your dreams to Christ and let Him be your Guide to healing, leading you in prayer beyond the sorry reaches of the world. (A Course in Miracles, S-3.IV.5:3-6:6)

The belief that God condemns, punishes or makes bodies that die is a projection of the ego. God’s Love is eternal and does not condemn. His Will for us is perfect happiness as we remain eternally in His arms of Love. This is our true Home.

While we identify with the ego, we seem to be in opposition to God’s Will. The ego tells us that to accept His Will is a sacrifice. Yet the truth is that by identifying with the ego we sacrifice eternal Love, peace that cannot be disturbed and indescribable joy. We can reclaim this inheritance by disidentifying with the ego. Forgiveness is the means through which we let go of our mistaken beliefs and learn to see Love’s innocence everywhere, where It has always been, unchanged and unchangeable.

Choose peace today and welcome the Voice for God, Whose guidance will lead us to the freedom of limitless Love.

Releasing Our Barriers to Love

You first forgive, then pray, and you are healed. Your prayer has risen up and called to God, Who hears and answers. You have understood that you forgive and pray but for yourself. And in this understanding you are healed. In prayer you have united with your Source, and understood that you have never left. This level cannot be attained until there is no hatred [denial of Love’s oneness] in your heart, and no desire to attack the Son of God.

Never forget this; it is you who are God’s Son, and as you choose to be to him [God’s Son] so are you to yourself, and God to you. Nor will your judgment fail to reach to God, for you will give the role to Him you see in His creation. (A Course in Miracles, S-3.IV.4:1-5:2)

If we believe we have separated from God, we will see His Creation (Love’s extension, His Son) as separate from us. To identify with the ego’s belief in separation from Love is to perceive ourselves as loveless. Hatred is lovelessness. We project this sense of lovelessness not only on others, but also on God. God becomes punitive and unloving in our thinking.

To reach true communion in the unrestricted flow of God’s Love, we must let go of our barriers to Love. This is why forgiveness comes first. We need to open our hearts and minds to Love by letting go of our barriers. The Holy Spirit was given us as the Helper Who can guide us to true forgiveness. With His help, we will learn to recognize our mistaken beliefs and let them go. This practice every day frees us from our confinement to the prison cell of denial of Love.

We have taught ourselves to believe what could never be true. It is impossible to not be the Love God created us to be. But we can make ourselves unaware of the Love we are. The practice of asking for help to see with the eyes of Love all through the day will return us to the full recognition that we are united with all that is in Love’s oneness.

Awakening to God’s Love in Everyone

Think what it means to help the Christ to heal! Can anything be holier than this? God thanks His healers, for He knows the Cause of healing is Himself, His Love, His Son, restored as His completion and returned to share with Him creation’s holy joy. Do not ask partial healing, nor accept an idol for rememberance of Him Whose Love has never changed and never will. You are as dear to Him as is the whole of His creation, for [His creation] lies in you as His eternal gift. What need have you for shifting dreams within a sorry world? Do not forget the gratitude of God. Do not forget the holy grace of prayer. Do not forget forgiveness of God’s Son. (A Course in Miracles, S-3.IV.3)

Think about the gratitude you feel when you extend Love to another and that Love is accepted and reflected back to you. You may say, “It warms my heart.” This feeling is but a tiny inkling of the gratitude God feels when we accept His Love by extending It.

Forgiveness removes the barriers to extending Love. God is grateful when we forgive, for attempts to limit Love have been removed. God is grateful when we join with His Love in prayer, for this is the holy communion of Love with Itself.

Forgiveness, prayer and gratitude are intertwined as we seek to awaken to the Love that we are. For they all work together to remove the barriers to Love’s presence. They lead to our acceptance of God’s gift of Himself. They awaken us to Love.

Peace Prevails in Christ’s Vision

As witness to forgiveness, aid to prayer, and the effect of mercy truly taught, healing is blessing. And the world responds in quickened chorus through the voice of prayer. Forgiveness shines its merciful reprieve upon each blade of grass and feathered wing and all the living things upon the earth. Fear has no haven here, for love has come in all its holy oneness. Time remains only to let the last embrace of prayer rest on the earth an instant, as the world is shined away. This instant is the goal of all true healers, whom the Christ has taught to see His likeness and to teach like Him. (A Course in Miracles, S-3.IV.2)

A true healer sees with Christ’s vision, which sees only the reality of Love’s innocence. While the body sees separate images, the mind of a true healer overlooks the forms and gives its full attention to the recognition of Love’s innocence everywhere. This clear vision comes through true forgiveness. The mind of a true healer no longer perceives a need to defend a limited identity nor sees any justification to judge against anyone or anything. This is the goal of the practice of true forgiveness.

Each time we accept Christ’s teaching that only Love is real and guilt is never justified, we give a gift to ourself and the world. Forgiveness clears the way for Love’s blessing to extend. It lets Love be Itself without limit. As we let go of the layers of the belief in separation, the Love from the Truth in us flows more freely, with kindness, compassion and helpfulness. The ego’s dedication to division is replaced by Christ’s unifying vision that joins with the truth of Love everywhere. In this vision, peace prevails, for there is no conflict in what is one.

Returning Home to Love

How holy are the healed! For in their sight their brothers share their healing and their love. Bringers of peace,— the Holy Spirit’s voice, through whom He speaks for God, Whose Voice He is,— such are God’s healers. They but speak for Him and never for themselves. They have no gifts but those they have from God. And these they share because they know that this is what He wills. They are not special. They are holy. They have chosen holiness, and given up all separate dreams of special attributes through which they can bestow unequal gifts on those less fortunate. Their healing has restored their wholeness so they can forgive, and join the song of prayer in which the healed sing of their union and their thanks to God. (A Course in Miracles, S-3.IV.1)

Our holiness is established by our unity with God. Being one with God, we share all of His attributes — His Love, His joy and His peace.

The choice to identify with the ego thought system of separation denies our unity with our Source. The effect of this choice is to perceive God’s Will as a threat to our will. We cannot maintain our special separate identity and remain aware of our unbreakable unity with Love’s oneness. It is this choice of separation that must be forgiven for us to remember that we are God’s Love.

Forgiveness in the world appears to take many forms, as guided by Spirit. This is because true forgiveness is a form in the dream of separation. It is a form that leads to awakening from the dream because it lets go of the misperceptions that see forms of separation as real. We need God’s Voice to guide is in true forgiveness. The Holy Spirit is not deceived by our mistaken belief in separation so He is able to teach us to recognize the falsity of this belief.

When we have fully accepted true forgiveness, we recognize that only the oneness of Love is real. The belief in separation is fully let go. Now we welcome our unity in God’s Love. We dwell in joy as we freely extend Love and feel Love’s blessing. Now forgiveness is complete. We have returned Home to Love.
