Letting Go of Belief in Guilt

The perception of sin and guilt in the world, in the figures that come and go in the dream, is always a projection of the guilt that lives in your mind. It cannot be otherwise. That is why you must forgive the world and everyone and everything in it, for only thus do you forgive yourself. Only by healing all guilt and sin, wherever you perceive it, is the sense of sinfulness and guilt in your mind healed. This naturally follows from what was stated earlier. The Sonship is One, you are a whole part of that Oneness; therefore, to heal and free your mind, you must offer healing to the Whole as It appears in little bits and pieces in the condition of separation. All these apparently separate bits and pieces are actually part of you, and you will be healed in entirety or you will not be healed at all.

Do not let guilt cloud your mind any longer. It brings you nothing but suffering and death. Guilt drives Love from your awareness and leaves you alone and friendless in an alien land. The belief in guilt has robbed you of all that is good and valuable, yet you remain a willing victim to this loss as long as you cling to guilt. It exerts a strong attraction on you; through the projection of guilt, you maintain your identity in separation and justify your attacks on your brothers. Because you are consciously unaware that you are always the first victim of your attacks, you continue to judge and condemn your brothers, thinking that attack on another brings you something of value. Attack brings you nothing! This cannot be overemphasized. If you were aware of the total loss you suffer with every attack on your brother, attack would lose its attraction for you. When we believe in guilt and sin anywhere in the world, we are making the error real. Belief in separation is belief in illusions, because only Love is real. The rest is illusions projected from our unhealed mind. We are now at the stage of learning to distrust what our body’s eyes show us and turn instead to welcome Holy Spirit’s vision of the oneness of God’s Son. As we trust Holy Spirit’s judgment instead of our own, our minds are healed of guilt. We practice opening to Holy Spirit’s vision today to free ourselves from all suffering and pain.

Finding Lasting Happiness

[God] has not left His Thoughts. He could no more depart from them than they could keep Him out. In unity with Him do they abide, and in their oneness Both are kept complete. There is no road that leads away from Him. A journey from yourself does not exist.…

Forgive yourself your madness, and forget all senseless journeys and all goal-less aims. They have no meaning. You can not escape from what you are. For God is merciful, and did not let His Son abandon Him. For what He is be thankful, for in that is your escape from madness and from death. Nowhere but where He is can you be found. We all must learn that the world offers us nothing we really want. Eventually we reach a point of recognition that it is futile to search for what we want where it cannot be found. At this point we say in some way, “There must be another way.”

This is our turning point, for at this point, our mind is open to another way we have not tried before. Into this opening the Holy Spirit comes to bring us His vision that shows us where our real happiness can be found. As we become willing to let Him direct our way, we begin to see past the empty forms of the world. We begin to recognize that beyond them is one thing and one thing only — God’s Love.

With this recognition we realize that God’s Love is always ours, for we have not left His Thoughts and He has not left us. Here we can be in peace, for we have found the happiness we always had within.

Learning to See with Eyes of Love

Perhaps you think that different kinds of love are possible. Perhaps you think there is a kind of love for this, a kind for that; a way of loving one, another way of loving still another. Love is one. It has no separate parts and no degrees; no kinds nor levels, no divergencies and no distinctions. It is like itself, unchanged throughout. It never alters with a person or a circumstance. It is the Heart of God, and also of His Son.

Love cannot judge. As it is one itself, it looks on all as one. Its meaning lies in oneness. And it must elude the mind that thinks of it as partial or in part. There is no love but God’s, and all of love is His. There is no other principle that rules where love is not. Love is a law without an opposite. Its wholeness is the power holding everything as one, the link between the Father and the Son which holds Them both forever as the same.

Love’s meaning is your own, and shared by God Himself. For what you are is what He is. There is no love but His, and what He is, is everything there is. There is no limit placed upon Himself, and so are you unlimited as well. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 127, W-pI.127.1;3;4:2-5. See also ACIM Lesson 127 Insights.)

Love’s sole function is to extend Love. Because we were created by Love as Love, our sole true function is to extend Love. To be true to our Self, we must let go of all judgment, for judgment denies Love.

The practice of forgiveness, letting go of judgment, is how we return to our true Self. It is how we return to Love. This means we must see every brother as Love, at one with us. We must see past differences in form, behavior, beliefs and attitudes. All these are but aspects of the ego thought system which denies Love.

We have all the help we need to receive the clear vision that sees our brother as our Self. We need only reach out and accept the helping hand of the Holy Spirit. He will strengthen our little willingness with His certainty that we remain as Love created us, whole, changeless and eternal.

Today we would accept His help and welcome His clear vision that will lead us Home.

Opening the Door to Happiness

Unless I look upon what is not there, my present happiness is all I see. Eyes that begin to open see at last. And I would have Christ’s vision come to me this very day. What I perceive without God’s Own Correction for the sight I made is frightening and painful to behold. Yet I would not allow my mind to be deceived by the belief the dream I made is real an instant longer. This the day I seek my present happiness, and look on nothing else except the thing I seek.

With this resolve I come to You, and ask Your strength to hold me up today, while I but seek to do Your Will. You cannot fail to hear me, Father. What I ask have You already given me. Unforgiveness is a barrier to awareness of Love’s presence; it is a barrier to happiness. If we look honestly at every situation, circumstance, relationship or thought that does not bring us perfect happiness, it is because we have judged against it. Somehow it is not acceptable and we want it to be different. This is unforgiveness. The body and the world we see through it are projections of this unforgiveness.

There is another world to see. It is seen through forgiving eyes, which do not judge against. Forgiveness releases our thoughts from dwelling upon the past. What remains is Love and nothing else. Forgiveness is the means that opens our hearts and minds to welcome the Love and joy our Creator has already given us for eternity.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to guide our vision to see past the images of guilt and fear that we may welcome God’s Love and joy.

Letting Holy Spirit Heal All Our Perceptions

I am entitled to miracles [seeing as Holy Spirit sees]. I am entitled to miracles because I am under no laws but God’s. His laws release me from all grievances [thoughts of separation], and replace them with miracles. And I would accept the miracles in place of the grievances, which are but illusions that hide the miracles beyond. Now I would accept only what the laws of God entitle me to have, that I may use it on behalf of the function He has given me. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 189, W-pI.89.1. We are all entitled to see the world through the Holy Spirit’s eyes because the Holy Spirit is always in our mind, waiting to show us the truth behind our illusions. As our willingness to listen to the Holy Spirit grows, the truth naturally shows up in our mind. Our willingness to see the world as Holy Spirit sees it helps not only us, but helps the healing of the world because our minds our joined in reality.

We dedicate today to joining with the Light in us to see everyone in this world differently… We accept that the Light has come… We see innocence beyond the guilt that the ego mind would see… We accept that beyond all the stories that the ego mind has made up is the truth that only God’s Love is eternally real… We accept that all our problems have been solved… The Holy Spirit brings this awareness to our minds if we let Him. This is our practice for today.

Freedom from Pain and Guilt

Father, there is a vision which beholds all things as sinless, so that fear has gone, and where it was is love invited in. And love will come wherever it is asked. This vision is Your gift. The eyes of Christ look on a world forgiven. In His sight are all its sins forgiven, for He sees no sin in anything He looks upon. Now let His true perception come to me, that I may waken from the dream of sin and look within upon my sinlessness, which You have kept completely undefiled upon the altar to Your holy Son, the Self with which I would identify.

Let us today behold each other in the sight of Christ. How beautiful we are! How holy and how loving! Brother, come and join with me today. We save the world when we have joined. When we truly want the truth, it will be given us. We will open our minds to the Light and peace of the Holy Spirit, and we will receive a different way of seeing. We will see innocence where we once saw guilt. We will see Love where we once saw fear. We will know oneness where we once saw separation. We will be aware of Love’s Presence, which never fluctuates or changes into something else.

When we truly want freedom from the ego’s thoughts system, we will receive it. We will be vigilant for old thought systems brought forward from the past that carry the seeds of darkness, fear and guilt. We will consistently allow ourselves to be lifted up and rise above the ego’s battleground of projecting guilt and see past illusions of separation to the truth of Love’s eternal Oneness. This is our practice for today.

Rest in the Assurance of God’s Love

In this world, there appears to be a state that is life’s opposite. You call it death. Yet we have learned that the idea of death takes many forms. It is the one idea which underlies all feelings that are not supremely happy. It is the alarm to which you give response of any kind that is not perfect joy. All sorrow, loss, anxiety and suffering and pain, even a little sigh of weariness, a slight discomfort or the merest frown, acknowledge death. And thus deny you live.

Death is the thought that you are separate from your Creator.

What seems to be the opposite of life is merely sleeping. When the mind elects to be what it is not, and to assume an alien power which it does not have, a foreign state it cannot enter, or a false condition not within its Source, it merely seems to go to sleep a while. It dreams of time; an interval in which what seems to happen never has occurred, the changes wrought are substanceless, and all events are nowhere. When the mind awakes, it but continues as it always was. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 167, W-pI.167.2;4:1;9. See also ACIM Lesson 167 Insights.)

Perception of loss or lack of any kind indicates that there is a belief in death or separation from God’s oneness. But the Course is telling us that we, the Son of God, can never be separate from our Creator. We are God’s Thought. And thoughts cannot leave their Source. We are forever united in the Thought of Love.

Yet we can imagine we are separate and experience the sense of loss and lack that this imagined state induces. While we are engaged in this imagined scenario, the Presence of Love is all around, yet unknown to us. This is the thought of death.

But an imagined condition is just a false image that could never be true. No matter how horrific or terrorizing the images our imagination generates, they cannot alter the Reality that we remain united in Love with our Creator. We remain eternally safe, eternally loved and loving, eternally innocent, eternally at Home in the Mind of God.

Today let us rest in the assurance that this is so.
