Choosing the Teacher of Peace

Knowledge is not the motivation for learning this course. Peace is. This is the prerequisite for knowledge only because those who are in conflict are not peaceful, and peace is the condition of knowledge because it is the condition of the Kingdom. Knowledge can be restored only when you meet its conditions.

…the ego may seem to interfere with your learning, but the ego has no power to distract you unless you give it the power to do so. The ego’s voice is an hallucination. You cannot expect it to say “I am not real.” Yet you are not asked to dispel your hallucinations alone. You are merely asked to evaluate them in terms of their results to you. If you do not want them on the basis of loss of peace, they will be removed from your mind for you.

Your past learning must have taught you the wrong things, simply because it has not made you happy. On this basis alone its value should be questioned.

You cannot learn simultaneously from two teachers who are in total disagreement about everything. Their joint curriculum presents an impossible learning task. They are teaching you entirely different things in entirely different ways, which might be possible except that both are teaching you about yourself. Your reality is unaffected by both, but if you listen to both, your mind will be split about what your reality is. (A Course in Miracles, T-8.I.1:1-4;2;4:1-2;6:2-5. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

The ego teaches conflict — separation and differences. The perception of loss or harm can only come with the belief in conflicting differences. In the oneness of God’s Love, differences are impossible. Conflict is unknown. His Teacher offers lessons in perception that lead us past conflict to the peace of unity in Love. If we want to experience peace consistently, we need to learn that nothing the ego teaches is real and thus it has no real effect on our true Self.

In every moment we choose which teacher we would follow. Let us join together in choosing the Teacher of Peace as our Guide. We will be guided to bring peace to the world as we teach what we need to learn. United in Love, we will learn that we are Love and nothing else. We will learn that God’s Will is our own.

Answering the World’s Call for Love

This world is not the Will of God, and so it is not real.

One walks with you Who gently answers all your fears with this one merciful reply, “It is not so.” He points to all the gifts you have each time the thought of poverty [separation] oppresses you, and speaks of His Companionship when you perceive your­self as lonely and afraid.

He speaks as well of what becomes your will when you accept these gifts, and recognize they are your own.

Become the living proof of what Christ’s touch can offer everyone. God has entrusted all His gifts to you. Be witness in your happiness to how transformed the mind becomes which chooses to accept His gifts, and feel the touch of Christ. Such is your mission now. For God entrusts the giving of His gifts to all who have received them. He has shared His joy with you. And now you go to share it with the world. God created our true Self by giving It all His Love and Its attributes. His Love is ours to give. It is in the giving that we affirm we have accepted God’s gifts.

Much of the world is crying out for Love. With the Holy Spirit as our Guide, it is our sole function to answer this call with Love. It begins with accepting Christ’s vision as our own. He shows us that beyond the pain, suffering and fear lies the Love everyone seeks.

As we share this vision, we become part of the answer that brings healing to the world. When we accept our function, we will be guided how to think, where to go, what to do and say. Our job is to let the Light of Love guide our way. As we do, we learn of the Love we are and of the certainty of our eternal presence in the Heaven of God’s Love. We know we are blessed by the gifts of God.

Finding the Truth of the Love We Are

No one remains in hell, for no one can abandon his Creator, nor affect His perfect, timeless and unchanging Love. You will find Heaven. Everything you seek but this will fall away. Yet not because it has been taken from you. It will go because you do not want it. You will reach the goal you really want as certainly as God created you in sinlessness.

No one can fail who seeks to reach the truth, and it is truth we seek to reach today. We will …ask to see the rising of the real world to replace the foolish images that we hold dear, with true ideas arising in the place of thoughts that have no meaning, no effect, and neither source nor substance in the truth.

For several minutes watch your mind and see, although your eyes are closed, the senseless world you think is real. Review the thoughts as well which are compatible with such a world, and which you think are true. Then let them go, and sink below them to the holy place where they can enter not. There is a door beneath them in your mind, which you could not completely lock to hide what lies beyond.

Put out your hand, and see how easily the door swings open with your one intent to go beyond it. Angels light the way, so that all darkness vanishes, and you are standing in a light so bright and clear that you can understand all things you see.

You cannot fail today. There walks with you the Spirit Heaven sent you, that you might approach this door some day, and through His aid slip effortlessly past it, to the light. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 131, W-pI.131.5;10:2-3;11:5-8;13:1-2;14:1-2. See also ACIM Lesson 131 Insights.)

Our true Self remains in Heaven, where God created It to be. We have hidden this Self from our awareness under layers of illusions of bodies which seem more real because of the belief we invest in them. We make the choice for this belief in every moment. But we can make another choice.

Today we choose to set these beliefs aside for a moment and let our thoughts sink past them to the center of peace within — our true Self. Here we find Its radiant Light that is God’s Love. This Love dispels the darkness of our fear-based thoughts. It reminds us that we are still the Love we were created to be, safe in Heaven. This is the truth we seek, the Love we thought we lost but remains forever What we are.

Taking Down the Wall of Grievances with Love

Your picture of the world can only mirror what is within. The source of neither light nor darkness can be found without. Grievances darken your mind, and you look out on a darkened world. Forgiveness lifts the darkness, reasserts your will, and lets you look upon a world of light. We have repeatedly emphasized that the barrier of grievances is easily passed, and cannot stand between you and your salvation.

Above all else, you want the freedom to remember Who you really are. Today it is the ego that stands powerless before your will. Your will is free, and nothing can prevail against it.

…tell yourself with gentle firmness and quiet certainty:

We share God’s Will to be and extend the Light of Love. The ego is a wish to make a world of separation and convince the Son of God to believe it is our reality. To do this it must offer a substitute image to replace the Son God created. This substitute manifests as a body, distinct and separate from other bodies. This could only seem to be real in a world shut off from the Light of Love.

To keep this world hidden the ego builds a wall of grievances which reinforce the belief that its image of our self is separate from everyone and everything. This little self is weak, vulnerable and isolated, lonely and afraid. It is not the Will of God that such a world be real, nor is it our true will.

We take down the wall the ego made to hide from the Light of Love through forgiveness. Each time we forgive a grievance, a perceived loss or fear of future harm, we let more of the Light of Love enter our mind.

We do this with the help of the Holy Spirit. We need only be willing to accept His help to see past the ego’s made-up images to the Light of Love that is ever present in our minds. As we welcome this Light, we look upon a world of Light where innocence is seen in all things. This real world reflects the Light of Heaven.

Finding the Love We Thought We Lost

Today belongs to love. Let me not fear.

Father, today I would let all things be as You created them, and give Your Son the honor due his sinlessness; the love of brother to his brother and his Friend. Through this I am redeemed. Through [Love] as well the truth will enter where illusions were, light will replace all darkness, and Your Son will know he is as You created him.

A special blessing comes to us today, from Him Who is our Father. Give this day to Him, and there will be no fear today, because the day is given unto love. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 274, W-pII.274. See also ACIM Lesson 274 Insights.)

The choice to identify with the ego or God as our Source is the choice between fear and Love. Fear can only occur if illusions of separation are believed to be real. Yet our true Self lives in the Love of God where fear is impossible.

Today we practice asking of everything, “How would Love perceive this? How would Love respond to this?” As we let Love guide our thoughts, words and actions, we choose a path of peace. Fear recedes in the presence of the Light of Love. As we follow Love’s lead, we become messengers of Love in a world hungry for Love. We become God’s channels of Love to the world searching to find the Love that has never been lost.

We Offer Love’s Blessing to the World

If you are blessed and do not know it, you need to learn it must be so. The knowledge is not taught, but its conditions must be acquired for it is they (the conditions of knowledge) that have been thrown away. You can learn to bless, and cannot give what you have not. If, then, you offer blessing, it must have come first to yourself. And you must also have accepted [blessing] as yours, for how else could you give it away? That is why miracles offer you the testimony that you are blessed. If what you offer is complete forgiveness you must have let guilt go, accepting the Atonement for yourself and learning you are guiltless.

Indirect proof of truth is needed in a world made of denial and without direction. You will perceive the need for this if you realize that to deny is the decision not to know. The logic of the world must therefore lead to nothing, for its goal is nothing. If you decide to have and give and be nothing except a dream, you must direct your thoughts unto oblivion. And if you [truly] have and give and are everything [Love], and all this has been denied, your thought system is closed off and wholly separated from the truth. This is an insane world, and do not underestimate the extent of its insanity. There is no area of your perception that it has not touched, and your dream is sacred to you. Belief in guilt manifests in many ways: Sadness, loneliness. a sense of inadequacy, remorse, shame, resentment, blame, irritation, anger and rage. We can only experience these symptoms if we deny the reality and eternal presence of Love. The world we experience is the effect of this denial. Only our belief in the world that denies Love makes it seem real.

This belief is self-perpetuating unless the mind is helped to learn that it could never be true. God answered our denial of Love by placing the Holy Spirit in our mind to lead us out of the denial of Truth. He is the Bridge between the dream based on belief and the knowledge of God’s changeless Love.

If we are willing to offer all our thoughts that are not wholly loving to the Holy Spirit, He will correct our mistaken thoughts for us. Our misperceptions will be transformed into the recognition of calls for Love and the presence of Love. There is truly nothing else to see. Our willingness to accept the Holy Spirit’s correction is willingness to accept Love’s blessing. As our mistaken thoughts are healed, we offer Love’s blessing to the world.

Recognizing Opportunities to Forgive

Let me not forget my function.

Today’s idea is merely another way of saying “Let me not wan­der into temptation.” The purpose of the world you see is to obscure your function of forgiveness, and provide you with a justification for forgetting it. It is the temptation to abandon God and His Son by taking on a physical appearance. It is this the body’s eyes look upon.

Nothing the body’s eyes seem to see can be anything but a form of temptation, since this was the purpose of the body itself. Yet we have learned that the Holy Spirit has another use for all the illusions you have made, and therefore He sees another purpose in them. To the Holy Spirit, the world is a place where you learn to forgive yourself what you think of as your sins. In this perception, the physical appearance of temptation becomes the spiritual recognition of salvation.

The world’s salvation awaits your forgiveness, because through it does the Son of God escape from all illusions, and thus from all temptation. The Son of God is you. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 64, W-pI.64.1-2;3:3-4. See also ACIM Lesson 64 Insights.)

It is important to understand that the ego made the body as a defense against the oneness of God’s Love. When we are tempted to identify with the body, we cannot know that we are God’s Son because we are believing the illusion of separation is real.

The Holy Spirit has another purpose for the body. His purpose is to use the body to bring to our attention the beliefs that need to be forgiven. When we believe what the body perceives is real, we inevitably react with various forms of fear or guilt. The Holy Spirit uses these reactions to bring our attention to the need for forgiveness.

Whenever there is a feeling of fear or guilt, there is a mistaken belief that needs to be let go. When we accept the Holy Spirit’s guidance, He will show us how to let go of the mistaken belief. Leading us on this path to forgiveness is the Holy Spirit’s only purpose. Every moment of every day we have opportunities to learn His lessons.

Today we dedicate to following the lead of our inner Teacher.
