Let’s Be Generous with Our Love Today

The term generosity has special meaning to the teacher of God. It is not the usual meaning of the word; in fact, it is a meaning that must be learned and learned very carefully. …To the teachers of God, it means giving away in order to keep.

The teacher of God is generous out of Self interest. This does not refer, however, to the self of which the world speaks. The teacher of God does not want anything he cannot give away, because he realizes it would be valueless to him by definition. What would he want it for? He could only lose because of it. He could not gain. Therefore he does not seek what only he could keep, because that is a guarantee of loss. He does not want to suffer. Why should he ensure himself pain? But he does want to keep for himself all things that are of God, and therefore for His Son. These are the things that belong to him. These he can give away in true generosity, protecting them forever for himself. (A Course in Miracles, M-4.VII.1:1-2,5;2)

The ego’s world is a dream of limitation in which every form is defined by its limits. Thus giving any form away must mean the giver of the form loses it. With this perception, true generosity is impossible, for giving always involves loss.

Because God’s Love is eternal and one, it is impossible to lose. It could be said that a teacher of God is a teacher of Love. A teacher of God remembers that only Love is real. His true Self is an extension of God’s Love, eternally one with Love. Love by Its nature is eternally extending Itself. Thus our true Self is always extending Love.

Each time we forgive ourselves for believing we are separate, we make way for the Love of our true Self to give of Itself. Our true Self’s generosity is innate. It is always ready to teach only Love, for that is what It is.

Let us be generous with our Love today by letting It guide our thoughts, words and actions.

The Choice to See Heaven’s Open Gate

Salvation is the recognition that the truth is true, and nothing else is true. …Truth cannot have an opposite.

As God created you, you must remain unchangeable, with transitory states by definition false. And that includes all shifts in feeling, alterations in conditions of the body and the mind; in all awareness and in all response. This is the all-inclusiveness which sets the truth apart from falsehood, and the false kept separate from the truth, as what it is.

God made [the world] not. Of this you can be sure. What can He know of the ephemeral, the sinful and the guilty, the afraid, the suffering and lonely, and the mind that lives within a body that must die? …only madness makes a world like this.

Let us today be truly humble, and accept what we have made as what it is. The power of decision is our own. Decide but to accept your rightful place as co-creator of the universe, and all you think you made will disappear. What rises to awareness then will be all that there ever was, eternally as it is now. And it will take the place of self-deceptions made but to usurp the altar to the Father and the Son.

The universe God created is the universe of Love. It encompasses all that is real. Within His universe, there are no differences, no forms, nothing but Love’s oneness.

The ego made a counter universe, which completely denies God’s universe. But what denies the only reality must be itself unreal. When we choose the ego as our identity, we are only aware of the ego’s counter universe. It is the only “reality” we are aware of. Our ego identification makes us subject to all its rules and its laws. It seems to be a closed system with no escape.

We have a choice. We can choose to accept the help God gave us to lead us out of the false universe. The Holy Spirit helps us recognize the falsity of the ego’s world and choose Love as our reality. Forgiveness is the mechanism through which we make this choice. We forgive ourselves for choosing against God and in that forgiveness see that the gate of Heaven is open wide to welcome us Home.

Giving and Receiving Love’s Blessing

Vision depends upon today’s idea [To give and to receive are one in truth]. The light is in it, for it rec­onciles allseeming opposites. And what is light except the resolution, born of peace, of all your conflicts and mistaken thoughts into one concept which is wholly true? Even that one [concept] will disappear, because the Thought behind it will appear instead to take its place. And now you are at peace forever, for the dream is over then.

True light that makes true vision possible is not the light the body’s eyes behold. It is a state of mind that has become so unified that darkness cannot be perceived at all. And thus what is the same is seen as one, while what is not the same remains un­noticed, for it is not there.

This is the light that shows no opposites, and vision, being healed, has power to heal. This is the light that brings your peace of mind to other minds, to share it and be glad that they are one with you and with themselves. This is the light that heals because it brings single perception, based upon one frame of ref­erence, from which one meaning comes.

Here are both giving and receiving seen as different aspects of one Thought whose truth does not depend on which is seen as first, nor which appears to be in second place. There are only two mutually exclusive categories — real and unreal. The ego is unreal and is unaware of Reality. Love is Real and cannot see anything but Itself. Lack of Love is unknown to It.

The Mind of our true Self is united with the one Mind of Love. The Light of Love shines in It, leaving no room for dark thoughts of lovelessness. This Light is the natural condition of our mind. The practice of letting Love heal our mistaken belief in separation, forgiving our illusions, unites our mind with the Love of God.

This forgiveness is a gift we give by seeing our brother’s truly and we receive by accepting the Love we are. This giving and receiving occurs in the same instant. As we choose to let Love guide all our thoughts, words and actions, we experience and give Love’s blessing to the world.

The Goal of Living in and as Love

Let me remember that my goal is God.

All that is needful is to train our minds to overlook all little senseless aims, and to remember that our goal is God [Love]. His mem­ory is hidden in our minds, obscured but by our pointless little goals which offer nothing, and do not exist. Shall we continue to allow God’s grace to shine in unawareness, while the toys and trinkets of the world are sought instead? God is our only goal, our only Love. We have no aim but to remember Him.

Our goal is but to follow in the way that leads to You. We have no goal but this. What could we want but to remember You? What could we seek but our Identity? (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 258, W-pII.258. See also ACIM Lesson 258 Insights.)

The ego is the denial of Love. The way out of the ego’s world of projected illusions is to choose Love (God) as our only goal. Because only Love is real, the goal of Love leads us out of illusions and back to Reality.

Each time we let the Holy Spirit help us heal our fear-based or guilty thoughts, we take a step forward toward our goal of Love. The way Home is to practice pausing frequently throughout the day to open to Holy Spirit’s loving correction of our mistaken thoughts.

Choosing the Guide to Happiness

…God gives you only happiness. …Love cannot give evil, and what is not happiness is evil.

…God has given you your function. We have seen that there are only two parts of your mind. One is ruled by the ego, and is made up of illusions. The other is the home of the Holy Spirit, where truth abides. There are no other guides but these to choose between, and no other outcomes possible as a result of your choice but the fear that the ego always engenders, and the love that the Holy Spirit always offers to replace it.

Think also about the many forms the illusion of your function has taken in your mind, and the many ways in which you tried to find salvation [happiness] under the ego’s guidance. …Yet the ego is the only alternative to the Holy Spirit’s Voice.

You will listen to madness or hear the truth. …On one side stand all illusions. All truth stands on the other. Let us try today to realize that only the truth is true.

Love is the Source of happiness. The ego is the denial of Love; it is the wish to separate from the Source of Love. When we let the ego be our guide, we are choosing to be unhappy. The ego tries to hide this fact by offering many forms that seem to offer happiness.

Yet if we are honest with ourselves, we have to acknowledge that no form in the world has ever offered lasting happiness. The best the ego illusions can ever offer are brief periods that seem happy, yet never last. We are soon directed on another search for some other form that might satisfy.

As the Voice for God, the Holy Spirit guides us to choose what will bring us God’s gift of perfect happiness. This happiness is eternal and remains ours without limit. This happiness comes by forgiving our wish to separate from Love. This is our function. It is the only way to experience God’s gift of perfect happiness. While forgiveness is incomplete, our level of happiness seems to be inconsistent. This is only because our unforgiveness limits the amount of happiness we are willing to accept.

In every moment we choose between the ego’s denial of Love and happiness, and the Holy Spirit’s gift of forgiveness through healing our fear based thoughts. Today we choose to be happy by choosing the Holy Spirit’s help to forgive.

Opening the Door to Our Home in Heaven

In this world Heaven is a choice, because here we believe there are alternatives to choose between. …contradiction is the way we make what we perceive, and what we think is real.

…what is true in God’s creation cannot enter [in the world] until it is reflected in some form the world can understand. Truth cannot come where it could only be perceived with fear. For this would be the error truth can be brought to illusions. Opposition makes the truth unwelcome, and it cannot come.

Heaven is chosen consciously. The choice cannot be made until alternatives are accurately seen and understood. All that is veiled in shadows must be raised to understanding, to be judged again, this time with Heaven’s help. And all mistakes in judgment that the mind had made before are open to correction, as the truth dismisses them as causeless. Now are they without effects. They cannot be concealed, because their nothingness is recognized.

The conscious choice of Heaven is as sure as is the ending of the fear of hell, when it is raised from its protective shield of unawareness, and is brought to light. Who can decide between the clearly seen and the unrecognized? Yet who can fail to make a choice between alternatives when only one is seen as valuable; the other as a wholly worthless thing, a but imagined source of guilt and pain? The ego is the choice for hell — a loveless state in which the Source of Life is denied. With hell as its home, the ego is terrified of Heaven. Hell cannot seem to exist in the presence of Love. The acceptance of Love would reveal that the ego’s home is an illusion with no substance. It does not really exist at all.

While we accept the ego as our identity and accept the home it has made for us, we must hide this choice from our awareness. Heaven is perceived as a threat to our existence, but it only undoes the false identity made by the ego.

We choose Heaven as our Home by forgiving ourselves for denying our Identity as the Self God created one with Him. We choose our true Identity when we choose Love as our Guide in all our thoughts and our actions. Forgiveness opens the door to accept our true Identity at Home in Heaven.

Finding Safety in the Love of God

Learn now, without despair, there is no hope of answer in the world. …For from this lowest point will learning lead to heights of happiness, in which you see the purpose of the lesson shining clear, and perfectly within your learning grasp.

Who would be willing to be turned away from all the roadways of the world, unless he understood their real futility?

The learning that the world can offer but one choice, no matter what its form may be, is the beginning of acceptance that there is a real alternative instead.

This course attempts to teach no more than that the power of decision cannot lie in choosing different forms of what is still the same illusion and the same mistake.

Forgive yourself your madness, and forget all senseless journeys and all goal-less aims. They have no meaning. You can not escape from what you are. For God is merciful, and did not let His Son abandon Him. For what He is be thankful, for in that is your escape from madness and from death. Nowhere but where He is can you be found. The medical and political chaos in the world right now is bringing to our attention that real safety cannot be found in the world. But the good news is that there is a place of eternal safety that cannot be disturbed by appearances in the world. Our true Self was created eternally united with our Creator, safe in His changeless Love. This safety goes with us wherever we go, unaffected by dreams of danger and loss.

Take a moment to pause and look within your mind where you will find the peace of God. He guarantees the peace He has given you remains eternally yours. Rest in His peace. Accept the safety it brings. Let it comfort you and remind you that He loves you.

Accept His Love and share It with the world. Let the Light of Love shine away the illusions of darkness and fear. It will reveal that same Light in everyone and everything. As this Love fills your being and overflows, the world is recognized as a place of safety, for illusions have no effect on our Home in the Love of God.
