Finding the Certainty of God.

This course is a beginning, not an end. Your Friend [God’s Voice] goes with you. You are not alone. No one who calls on Him can call in vain. Whatever troubles you, be certain that He has the answer, and will gladly give it to you, if you simply turn to Him and ask it of Him. He will not withhold all answers that you need for anything that seems to trouble you. He knows the way to solve all problems, and resolve all doubts. His certainty is yours. You need but ask it of Him, and it will be given you.

You are as certain of arriving home as is the pathway of the sun laid down before it rises, after it has set, and in the half-lit hours in between. Indeed, your pathway is more certain still. For it can not be possible to change the course of those whom God has called to Him. Therefore obey your will, and follow Him Whom you accepted as your voice, to speak of what you really want and really need. His is the Voice for God and also yours. And thus He speaks of freedom and of truth. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Epilogue, W-pII.ep.1-2)

We have God’s guarantee that we will find our way back to the Home He created for us in eternal, changeless Love. His Voice calls to us unceasingly. This Voice is ever-present to guide us to true perception, which sees that only Love is real. He teaches us that we are innocent, for we have not changed God’s Son. We remain Love as Love created us.

In times of uncertainty and doubt about the way to go, we can count on His Voice to guide us. As we practice listening, we are guided to the path in gentleness and peace that leads us to the Home we never left in truth.

Entering into the Presence of Love

This day is holy, for it ushers in a new experience; a different kind of feeling and awareness. You have spent long days and nights in celebrating death. Today you learn to feel the joy of life.

Today it will be given you to feel a touch of Heaven, though you will return to paths of learning. Yet you have come far enough along the way to alter time sufficiently to rise above its laws, and walk into eternity a while. This you will learn to do increasingly, as every lesson, faithfully rehearsed, brings you more swiftly to this holy place and leaves you, for a moment, to your Self.

Nothing is needed but today’s idea [into His Presence would I enter now] to light your mind, and let it rest in still anticipation and in quiet joy, wherein you quickly leave the world behind. From this day forth, your ministry takes on a genuine devotion, and a glow that travels from your fingertips to those you touch, and blesses those you look upon. A vision reaches everyone you meet, and everyone you think of, or who thinks of you. For your experience today will so transform your mind that it becomes the touchstone for the holy Thoughts of God. In truth, our true Self’s Presence is always with us. Affirming that we want to enter into His Presence is declaring our willingness to accept our true Self as our Identity. Our true Self knows our unity with Love, our Creator. When we identify with the body, we are identifying with an illusion, making ourselves unaware of our true Self, our true Identity.

When we identify with our true Self, we identify with Love, peace and joy. This is our inheritance, given us by our Creator without limit. We experience this when we stop trying to make real an identity in a separate body with a private mind, isolated from our brothers. When we enter into the Presence of our true Self, we recognize our oneness with every brother, for we share this one Self. When we see the loving truth of our brother, we enter into the Presence of Love.

True Perception with the Holy Spirit

If you did not feel guilty you could not attack, for condemnation is the root of attack. It is the judgment of one mind by another as unworthy of love and deserving of punishment. But herein lies the split. For the mind that judges perceives itself as separate from the mind being judged, believing that by punishing another, it will escape punishment. All this is but the delusional attempt of the mind to deny itself, and escape the penalty of denial. It is not an attempt to relinquish denial, but to hold on to it. For it is guilt that has obscured the Father to you, and it is guilt that has driven you insane.

The acceptance of guilt into the mind of God’s Son was the beginning of the separation, as the acceptance of the Atonement [true perception] is its end.

This world is a picture of the crucifixion of God’s Son. And until you realize that God’s Son cannot be crucified, this is the world you will see. Yet you will not realize [that God’s Son cannot be crucified] until you accept the eternal fact that God’s Son is not guilty. He deserves only love because he has given only love. He cannot be condemned because he has never condemned. The Atonement is the final lesson he need learn, for it teaches him that, never having sinned, he has no need of salvation. God’s Son is the extension of God’s Love and remains united with Its Source, the Mind of Love. Thus God’s Son shares all of God’s attributes. God’s Son can give only Love because His Son is only Love. He cannot give what he does not have. This is why God’s Son cannot sin because separation is inconceivable in the Mind of Love. Love sees only Love and extends only Love. There is nothing else.

Only the belief that there something different and distinct from Love’s oneness makes judgment seem justified. This is the belief in separation, which brings guilt with it. The mind that judges is simply projecting its judgment on itself. In the oneness of Love this is impossible. To make guilt appear to be justified, a world had to be made with images of separation. This is the ego’s world. In this world it is impossible to recognize the reality of Love’s oneness.

Returning our mind to its original awareness of oneness is accomplished through true perception. To achieve true perception, we need the help of the Holy Spirit in our mind. He remembers that only Love is real and dismisses images of separation as unreal. The Holy Spirit’s vision will help us join with the Him to overlook the images of the dream and recognize only Love is real.

Today we dedicate to walking with Holy Spirit as our Guide.

Freeing Ourselves to Accept God’s Love

You want salvation. You want to be happy. You want peace. You do not have them now, because your mind is totally undisciplined, and you cannot distinguish between joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain, love and fear. You are now learning how to tell them apart. And great indeed will be your reward.

Your decision to see is all that vision requires. What you want is yours. …God has one Son, and he is the resurrection and the life. His will is done because all power is given him in Heaven and on earth. In your determination to see is vision given you.

…as you repeat the idea [I am determined to see], you are stating that you are determined to change your present state for a better one, and one you really want.

The extra repetitions should be applied to any situation, person or event that upsets you. You can see them differently, and you will. What you desire you will see. In the ego’s dream, special relationships are its substitutes for Love. The ego seeks to find a situation or person which it believes will make us happy or feel complete. But if we find that special person or situation, there is always an underlying fear that we will lose it because nothing in the world is permanent. We may think that a special relationship is pleasurable, but beneath the surface is the pain of guilt and fear that comes from believing we have separated from God’s Love.

The antidote for these perceptions is to see beyond the the surface of forms to the eternal presence of God’s Love. Happiness and peace are attributes of Love. In the changelessness of Love, we are perfectly safe and in need of nothing.

As we identify with Love, there is nothing to fear, no chance of loss. In Love’s oneness, there is no thought of separation, only the joyous sharing of God’s Love. It is this we are determined to see. This vision frees us from the ego’s limitations to accept our unity with unlimited Love.

How to Bring Love to the World

The setting of the Holy Spirit’s goal [of truth] is general. Now He will work with you to make it specific, for application is specific. There are certain very specific guidelines He provides for any situation,…

In any situation in which you are uncertain, the first thing to consider, very simply, is “What do I want to come of this? What is it for?” The clarification of the goal belongs at the beginning, for it is this which will determine the outcome.

The goal of truth has further practical advantages. If the situation is used for truth and sanity, its outcome must be peace. And this is quite apart from what the outcome is. If peace is the condition of truth and sanity, and cannot be without them, where peace is they must be. Truth comes of itself. If you experience peace, it is because the truth has come to you and you will see the outcome truly, for deception cannot prevail against you. You will recognize the outcome because you are at peace. Here again you see the opposite of the ego’s way of looking, for the ego believes the situation brings the experience. The Holy Spirit knows that the situation is as the goal determines it, and is experienced according to the goal. (A Course in Miracles, T-17.VI.1:4-6;2:1-3;5. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

We must be willing to learn what is true when we ask for the Holy Spirit’s guidance. This is how we reverse our old habit of choosing the ego as our guide. The ego is the denial of truth, so choosing the Holy Spirit is the choice to turn away from the ego’s lies.

Our willingness to learn the truth is all the Holy Spirit needs to teach us that only Love is real. Our willingness welcomes the Holy Spirit’s goal of truth.

The Holy Spirit uses our specific situations to teach us how Love sees the situation as a whole. We open to this vision by asking of the Holy Spirit, “What is this for?” Now our minds are open to learn what is truly meaningful in the situation. The Holy Spirit will guide us in a way that is truly helpful for all concerned. It brings the message of Love’s reality to the situation in a specific form which can be understood from the world’s perspective.

The outcome of this guidance will always bring peace. With peace comes understanding. The experience of peace demonstrates that we have brought sanity into the ego’s insane thought system. We have taken a step toward accepting the Love we are. Through this practice we remove our barriers to the awareness of Love’s presence.

The Means to Experience Perfect Peace

God goes with me wherever I go. How can I be alone when God always goes with me? How can I be doubtful and unsure of myself when perfect certainty abides in Him? How can I be disturbed by anything when He rests in me in absolute peace? How can I suffer when love and joy surround me through Him? Let me not cherish illusions about myself. I am perfect because God goes with me wherever I go.

God is my strength. Vision is His gift. Let me not look to my own eyes to see today. Let me be willing to exchange my pitiful illusion of seeing for the vision that is given by God. Christ’s vision is His gift, and He has given it to me. Let me call upon this gift today, so that this day may help me to understand eternity. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 59, W-pI.59.1-2. To be aware of the strength of God in us, we must use the vision of Christ, our true Self. This vision sees that the body and all the forms in the dream of separation are not real. Christ’s vision sees past the dream to our eternal unity in the Love of God. God’s changelessness gives us perfect certainty of our safety, peace and happiness.

The body’s eyes are part of the ego’s mechanism to limit our awareness to its dream of conflict, lovelessness and lack. Yet God goes with us wherever we go, whether we are aware of His Presence or not. As we learn to exchange the ego’s illusion of seeing for God’s gift of Christ’s vision, we learn that we dwell in God’s absolute peace and limitless love. We remember our true Home.

The Need for God’s Teachers

What makes God’s teachers is their recognition of the proper purpose of the body. As they advance in their profession, they become more and more certain that the body’s function is but to let God’s Voice speak through it to human ears.

The central lesson is always this; that what you use the body for it will become to you. Use it for sin or for attack, which is the same as sin [separation], and you will see it as sinful [full of guilt]. Because it is sinful it is weak, and being weak, it suffers and it dies. Use it to bring the Word of God to those who have it not, and the body becomes holy.

Oneness and sickness cannot coexist. God’s teachers choose to look on dreams a while. It is a conscious choice. For they have learned that all choices are made consciously, with full awareness of their consequences. The dream says otherwise, but who would put his faith in dreams once they are recognized for what they are? Awareness of dreaming is the real function of God’s teachers. They watch the dream figures come and go, shift and change, suffer and die. Yet they are not deceived by what they see. They recognize that to behold a dream figure as sick and separate is no more real than to regard it as healthy and beautiful. Unity alone is not a thing of dreams. And it is this [unity] God’s teachers acknowledge as behind the dream, beyond all seeming and yet surely theirs. (A Course in Miracles, M-12.4:1-2;5:1-4;6, italics added)

In truth, we are all Spirit, united in the Love of God. From the perspective of a body, this is incomprehensible. This is why we need teachers of God, who recognize the dream of separation for what it is, to teach us the truth of What we are.

As instruments of the Voice for God, His teachers serve as a bridge to help us recognize that only Love is real. God’s teachers help us see past the dream to the Love that unifies us as one in God. As we learn these lessons in Love, We become less and less distracted by what the body appears to do. We become more aware the body is just a figure in a dream.

As we align our thoughts with God’s Voice, we become messengers of His Love. We answer calls for Love with Love’s healing thoughts. These thoughts teach us that we already have all of God’s Love without limit. Our sense of guilt and unworthiness diminishes as we learn that nothing has changed God’s one Son.  We become more and more certain that we are nothing but Love and we dwell eternally in God’s Love.
