Serving as a Messenger of Love

Only the Word of God has any meaning, because it symbolizes that which has no human symbols at all. The Holy Spirit alone understands what this Word stands for. And this, too, is enough.

Is the teacher of God, then, to avoid the use of words in his teaching? No, indeed! There are many who must be reached through words, being as yet unable to hear in silence. The teacher of God must, however, learn to use words in a new way. Gradually, he learns how to let his words be chosen for him by ceasing to decide for himself what he will say. This process is merely a special case of the lesson in the workbook that says, “I will step back and let Him lead the way.” (ACIM, W-pI.155) The teacher of God accepts the words which are offered him, and gives as he receives. He does not control the direction of his speaking. He listens and hears and speaks.

Judge not the words that come to you, but offer them in confidence. They are far wiser than your own. God’s teachers have God’s Word behind their symbols. And He Himself gives to the words they use the power of His Spirit, raising them from meaningless symbols to the Call of Heaven itself. (A Course in Miracles (ACIM), M-21.3:10-4:9;5:6-9)

The Word of God is His Voice (M-21.3). It is the Voice of Love. A teacher of God teaches only Love. When we let the Holy Spirit direct what we do, say and to whom, we serve as God’s teacher of Love. If we follow the ego’s dictates, we teach fear and reinforce our belief in the “reality” of a fearful world.

To be a teacher of God, we must not decide anything on our own. We have to be willing to step back from our ego-based reactions to perceived circumstances and ask for the Holy Spirit’s help to see through the eyes of Love.

If there are words to be said, we will be given words that reinforce Love and dispel fear. This gift comes from the Holy Spirit’s vision, which sees far beyond the limited scope of the world we see. As we follow His lead, our words bring healing to the world, including ourselves. This is how we teach the Love we need to learn we are. We serve as God’s messengers of Love.

Saying “Yes” to God’s Will for Us

There is no question but one you should ever ask of yourself;—“Do I want to know my Father’s Will for me?” …Our function is to work together, because apart from each other we cannot function at all. The whole power of God’s Son lies in all of us, but not in any of us alone. God would not have us be alone because He does not will to be alone. That is why He created His Son, and gave him the power to create with Him.

We cannot be separated. Whom God has joined cannot be separated, and God has joined all His Sons with Himself. Can you be separated from your life and your being? The journey to God is merely the reawakening of the knowledge of where you are always, and what you are forever. It is a journey without distance to a goal that has never changed. Truth can only be experienced. It cannot be described and it cannot be explained. I can make you aware of the conditions of truth, but the experience is of God. Together we can meet its conditions, but truth will dawn upon you of itself. (A Course in Miracles, T-8.VI.8:1,4-7;9:3-11. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

The ego is totally opposed to God’s Will. When we identify with the ego and belief in separation, we do not want to know God’s Will for us. We are choosing fear and hate instead of peace and Love.

This choice does not make reality but it does make an illusion of being separate, alone and disconnected from God’s changeless Love. This disconnection makes us feel powerless, lonely and unworthy because the Source of Love, strength and value is in our unity with our Creator.

When we choose to accept God’s Will for us, we choose to be happy, because God’s Will for us is perfect happiness. We choose to be strong and invulnerable because we accept God’s gift of all His strength. We know our value is of God and cannot be diminished.

The journey to accepting God’s Will for us is the process of letting go of the ego’s beliefs. We do this with the help of the Holy Spirit, Who recognizes what we believe, but does not join with us in our mistaken beliefs. If we are willing to let the Holy Spirit be our Guide, He will lead us to replace our mistaken beliefs with His vision of our true Holiness and our unity with God. He leads us to the acceptance of our true Self, which God created one with Him.

Today let us join with the Holy Spirit and say, “Yes” to God’s Will for us.

Blessing the World with Love’s Miracles

My eyes, my tongue, my hands, my feet today
Have but one purpose; to be given Christ
To use to bless the world with miracles.

Father, I give all that is mine today to Christ, to use in any way that best will serve the purpose that I share with Him. Nothing is mine alone, for He and I have joined in purpose. Thus has learning come almost to its appointed end. A while I work with Him to serve His purpose. Then I lose myself in my Identity, and recognize that Christ is but my Self. The sole purpose of the Christ is to bless the world with miracles. The Christ is the part of our mind that remembers only Love is real. It remembers the unbroken unity with our Father.

The world is a construct based on the belief in separation from our Creator. When we join with the purpose of the Christ in us, we let go of the ego’s purpose to separate and deny Love. We bring Love to the world made to deny Love. It is the Love we bring that blesses the world.

As we commit to share the Christ’s purpose to bring Love to the world, we learn that Love is already ours. We learn that our true Self is Love and nothing else, as is the Christ. We learn that our true Self is God’s one Son, united with our Father. Our unity with the Love of God is unbreakable.

Instead of following the ego’s purpose to separate and hate, today we choose Christ’s purpose by committing the body to use to bring Love’s blessing to the world.

Love Knows No Limits

It is only the awareness of the body that makes love seem limited. For the body is a limit on love. The belief in limited love was its origin, and it was made to limit the unlimited. Think not that this is merely allegorical, for it was made to limit you. Can you who see yourself within a body know yourself as an idea? Everything you recognize you identify with externals, something outside itself. You cannot even think of God without a body, or in some form you think you recognize.

The body is a tiny fence around a little part of a glorious and complete idea.

Each body seems to house a separate mind, a disconnected thought, living alone and in no way joined to the Thought by which it was created. Each tiny fragment seems to be self-contained, needing another for some things, but by no means totally dependent on its one Creator for everything; needing the whole to give it any meaning, for by itself it does mean nothing. Nor has it any life apart and by itself. (A Course in Miracles, T-18.VIII. 1;2:5;5:2-4. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

In truth we are all one Love, joined in the unity of the Self God created as His one Son. There are no differences or distinctions in Love’s oneness; nothing that can be set apart and remain Love.

This changeless oneness cannot be experienced in the world. Our identification with the body distinct from other bodies makes us unaware of our unity in Love. Yet our lack of awareness does not change our unity in Love. Love created us like Itself. Because only Love is real, nothing but Love exists in truth. Our true Self knows no limits. Because It is Love, It is eternally extending that Love to all. Love is our strength, our very Life.

Our attempt to limit Love by identifying with the body leaves us feeling alone and vulnerable. Yet God’s strength is still ours. His strength is available to us in every now moment. As we learn to recognize our true Identity is Love, we realize the body has no meaning of its own. All the things that seem to disturb us in the world stem from believing our little self, fenced off by a body, is real. This belief can be changed.

We have been given a Teacher in our mind to distinguish the false images of separation from the unity of Love that we are. With His help, we learn to let go of our attachment to bodies and what they do. We learn to look past appearances of form in the world to the Light of Love in everyone. With this vision comes increasing peace and happiness.

The Bridge of Return to Love

The Holy Spirit is described as the remaining Communication Link between God and His separated Sons. In order to fulfill this special function the Holy Spirit has assumed a dual function. He knows because He is part of God; He perceives because He was sent to save humanity. He is the great correction principle; the bringer of true perception, the inherent power of the vision of Christ. He is the light in which the forgiven world is perceived; in which the face of Christ alone is seen. He never forgets the Creator or His creation. He never forgets the Son of God. He never forgets you. And He brings the Love of your Father to you in an eternal shining that will never be obliterated because God has put it there.

The Holy Spirit abides in the part of your mind that is part of the Christ Mind. He represents your Self and your Creator, Who are One. He speaks for God and also for you, being joined with Both. And therefore it is He Who proves Them One. He seems to be a Voice, for in that form He speaks God’s Word to you. He seems to be a Guide through a far country, for you need that form of help. He seems to be whatever meets the needs you think you have. But He is not deceived when you perceive your self entrapped in needs you do not have. It is from these He would deliver you. It is from these [illusionary needs] that He would make you safe. (A Course in Miracles, C-6.3-4)

True communication can only occur in the oneness of formless Love. It is the eternal sharing of unlimited Love.

The world we experience is the effect of the ego’s decision to limit love by separating from it. True communication in Love is broken by this limitation. It leaves us feeling that we lack Love. The Course defines sin as lack of love (T-1.IV.3:1), which is experienced as guilt or sin.

The Holy Spirit’s function is to heal this false perception. The core belief in separation is disguised by the ego in many forms. We see it in our judgments about others and ourselves. Even perceiving a brother is a judgment that makes him appear separate from us. It is a reflection of our own belief in being separate. All the “problems” we experience in the world stem from our belief in being separate.

The Holy Spirit understands that we believe we have problems. He knows they are unreal and He understands that we believe they are real. As God’s Voice, the Holy Spirit offers us help to change our interpretation of the problems we perceive. He offers us a way of seeing adapted to where we believe we are in a form that we can accept. This is His function that bridges between His knowing of God’s formless Love and his understanding of our perceptions of differences, separation and lack of Love.

The practice of beginning the day with a willingness to receive Holy Spirit’s Help and asking for His Help when needed throughout the day will help us along the bridge of return to Love. Each time we accept the Holy Spirit’s Help leads us toward the gates of Heaven, where all judgments and beliefs in separation have been let go and we are welcomed into God’s Love.

The Path to Invulnerability

Have you really considered how many opportunities you have had to gladden yourself, and how many of them you have refused? There is no limit to the power of a Son of God, but he can limit the expression of his power as much as he chooses. Your mind and mine can unite in shining your ego away, releasing the strength of God into everything you think and do. Do not settle for anything less than this, and refuse to accept anything but this as your goal. Watch your mind carefully for any beliefs that hinder its [releasing the strength of God into everything you think and do] accomplishment, and step away from [these beliefs]. Judge how well you have done this by your own feelings, for this is the one right use of judgment. Judgment, like any other defense, can be used to attack or protect; to hurt or to heal. The ego should be brought to judgment and found wanting there. Without your own allegiance, protection and love, the ego cannot exist. Let it be judged truly and you must [inevitably] withdraw allegiance, protection and love from [the ego].

You are a mirror of truth, in which God Himself shines in perfect light. To the ego’s dark glass you need but say, “I will not look there because I know these images are not true.” Then let the Holy One shine on you in peace, knowing that this and only this must be. His Mind shone on you in your creation and brought your mind into being. His Mind still shines on you and must shine through you. Your ego cannot prevent Him from shining on you, but it can prevent you from letting Him shine through you. (A Course in Miracles, T-4.IV.8-9. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

The ego has no strength of its own. It depends entirely on our belief and allegiance to it for its seeming strength. Without our belief in it, the ego would simply cease to seem to be. We release ourselves to be the Love that created us by withdrawing our belief in the ego.

God has given us a Teacher in our mind Who will show us that the ego has no power, no substance. We need only be willing to offer our perceptions to the Holy Spirit with willingness to have them exchanged for the Holy Spirit’s vision. As we accept the Holy Spirit’s judgment of reality as our own, we accept God’s strength as ours. The ego’s seeming strength diminishes in the Light of God’s strength.

The daily, moment by moment practice of letting the Holy Spirit guide us in all things restores our awareness of the strength of God in us. We allow God’s Love to shine through us. It is the means to transition from the ego’s fear and vulnerability to our true Self’s Love and invulnerability in God.

Remembering We Are at Home in Love

I seek my own Identity, and find It in these words: “Love, which created me, is what I am.” Now need I seek no more. Love has prevailed. So still It waited for my coming home, that I will turn away no longer from the holy face of Christ. And what I look upon attests the truth of the Identity I sought to lose, but which my Father has kept safe for me.

Father, I seek the peace You gave as mine in my creation. What was given then must be here now, for my creation was apart from time, and still remains beyond all change. The peace in which Your Son was born into Your Mind is shining there unchanged. I am as You created me. I need but call on You to find the peace You gave. It is Your Will that gave it to Your Son. Our Identity is Love. Love is one and extends forever, without limit. God guarantees that the Self we are cannot be divided and cannot be limited.

Inherent in this changelessness is perfect peace. There is no change to be feared or defended against. Only the belief that we have changed ourselves by disconnecting from our Creator makes fear and change seem possible.

This belief makes illusions that seem to confirm that we are no longer the Love that God created us to be. Thankfully God did not allow this change to actually occur.

We can return to our original state as God created us by letting go of the false belief that we are separate. As we let go of that belief (forgive), we see the face of Christ. We see the innocence of Love reflected back to us, which reminds us of our true Identity as Love and nothing else. Forgiveness removes our self-made barriers to Love. And we remember we are at Home in Love.
