The Practice That Brings Us Joy

Creation is the sum of all God’s Thoughts, in number infinite, and everywhere without all limit. Only love creates, and only like itself. There was no time when all that it created was not there. Nor will there be a time when anything that it created suffers any loss. Forever and forever are God’s Thoughts exactly as they were and as they are, unchanged through time and after time is done.

Creation is the opposite of all illusions, for Creation is the truth. Creation is the holy Son of God, for in creation is His Will complete in every aspect, making every part container of the whole.

We are Creation; we the Sons of God. We seem to be discrete, and unaware of our eternal unity with Him. Yet back of all our doubts, past all our fears, there still is certainty. For love remains with all its Thoughts, its sureness being theirs. God’s memory is in our holy minds, which know their oneness and their unity with their Creator. Let our function be only to let this memory return, only to let God’s Will be done on earth, only to be restored to sanity, and to be but as God created us. (W-pII.11.1;3:1-2;4)

All God’s Thoughts are the Sons of God. Because thoughts do not leave their source, God’s Sons remain united with Him. Our true Self, God’s Son, remains united with God and all Creation. As God’s Son, we share His function to Create — to extend Love without limit. Joining in God’s extension of Love is the Source of all joy, for we are fulfilling our sole function.

Whenever we are not wholly joyous, we are limiting the extension of Love through us because we are accepting the ego’s goal of separation and limitation in place of God’s Will to extend His Love eternally. Today we practice letting Love guide all our thoughts and actions.

Seeing Past Fantasies to Eternal Love

Perception has a focus. It is this that gives consistency to what you see. Change but this focus, and what you behold will change accordingly. Your vision now will shift, to give support to the intent which has replaced the one you held before. Remove your focus on your brother’s sins, and you experience the peace that comes from faith in sinlessness. This faith receives its only sure support from what you see in others past their sins. For their mistakes, if focused on, are witnesses to sins in you. And you will not transcend their sight and see the sinlessness that lies beyond.

We seek for innocence and nothing else. We seek for it with no concern but now.

For the past is gone; the future but imagined. These concerns are but defenses against present change of focus in perception. …We do not look to past beliefs, and what we will believe will not intrude upon us now.

…as our focus goes beyond mistakes, we will behold a wholly sinless world. When seeing this is all we want to see, when this is all we seek for in the name of true perception, are the eyes of Christ inevitably ours. And the Love He feels for us becomes our own as well. When we see a brother as a body, we are not trusting in our brother’s truth. We are believing in a false image and calling it “reality”. This belief in what our brother is reflects what we believe we are. Focusing on bodies limits our perceptions to fantasies of images that are capable of harm and being harmed. It comes from belief in sin — separation from the oneness of Love.

Healing comes as we shift our focus from fantasies of separation to the truth of the innocence of Love. Love is incapable of harm or being limited in any way. Love is our true Self, united with every brother. This Self is eternal and changeless. It knows no past. There is no need to imagine a future because changeless Love is now eternally.

Let us remind ourselves frequently today to let the Holy Spirit help us see past body images and personalities to the unity of Love that joins us with every brother now. As we accept this Reality, we will experience the peace and joy that are God’s Will for us.

Resting in the Comfort of God’s Love

The very fact that the Will of God, which is what you are, is perceived as fearful, demonstrates that you are afraid of what you are. It is not, then, the Will of God of which you are afraid, but [your true will].

Your [true] will is not the ego’s, and that is why the ego is against you. What seems to be the fear of God is really the fear of your own reality.

You have set up this strange situation so that it is impossible to escape from it without a Guide Who does know what your reality is. The purpose of this Guide is merely to remind you of what you want.

When I said that the Holy Spirit’s function is to sort out the true from the false in your mind, I meant that He has the power to look into what you have hidden and recognize the Will of God there. His recognition of this Will can make it real to you because He is in your mind, and therefore He is your reality.

Reality [God’s Love] is the only safety. Your will is your salvation because it is the same as God’s. The separation is nothing more than the belief that [your will] is different [from God’s]. (T-9.I.1:4-2:2;3:5-6;4:2-3;7:7-9)

In truth, we are eternally safe in the Heart of Love. We are unaware of this while we believe we are in the dream of separation. Separation denies Love, making the Love we are unconscious. Denial does not change Reality; it only makes us unaware of It.

The Holy Spirit in our mind sees past our denial, recognizing the true Self that God created, forever united in His Reality. Thus the Holy Spirit helps us awaken from the dream of denying Love to recognize that we are God’s Son, one Self, united with Him in Love.

The dream of images which conflict with each other and compete for attention and value fades as we accept the Holy Spirit’s vision. Peace replaces conflict, the joy of extending Love replaces unhappiness, and we rest in the comfort of God’s Love.

Claiming God’s All-Encompassing Love

God’s blessing shines upon me from within my heart, where He abides. I need but turn to Him, and every sorrow melts away, as I accept His boundless Love for me.

I will be still, and let the earth be still along with me. And in that stillness we will find the peace of God. It is within my heart, which witnesses to God Himself. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lessons 207 & 208, W-pII.207,208. See also ACIM Lessons 207 & 208 Insights.)

God is Love and nothing else. The Love He is dwells in our heart. His Love is not distant. It is the Heart of What we are. We live and are in His Love, where we are eternally safe, happy and at peace.

Experiences of fear, sadness and loneliness come only when we believe the ego’s lie that we are separate from God’s Love. This need not be.

Today we practice pausing to go to the quiet place within our mind and heart to welcome the experience of the safety and peace of God’s all-encompassing Love. This is our true Home. We claim it now.

The Key to Happiness and Inner Peace

It is not our part to judge our worth, nor can we know what role is best for us; what we can do within a larger plan we cannot see in its entirety.

Whatever your appointed role may be, it was selected by the Voice for God, Whose function is to speak for you as well. Seeing your strengths exactly as they are, and equally aware of where they can be best applied, for what, to whom and when, He chooses and accepts your part for you. He does not work with­out your own consent. But He is not deceived in what you are, and listens only to His Voice in you.

It is through His ability to hear one Voice which is His Own that you become aware at last there is one Voice in you. And that one Voice appoints your function, and relays it to you, giving you the strength to understand it, do what it entails, and to succeed in everything you do that is related to it. God has joined His Son in this, and thus His Son becomes His messenger of unity with Him.

It is this Voice which speaks of laws the world does not obey; which promises salvation from all sin, with guilt abolished in the mind that God created sinless. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 154, W-pI.154.1:5;2-3;4:2. See also ACIM Lesson 154 Insights.)

The key to happiness and inner peace is to let the Voice for God direct all our perceptions, thoughts and doing. We lost our way to happiness when we chose the ego as our guide. it does not know what happiness and peace are and can only offer illusions that offer temporary relief from the painful belief that we have lost God’s Love.

God’s Voice assures us that we cannot lose His Love because He has given It to His Son for eternity. God’s unity with His Son is immutable. Only in dreams does loss seem possible. Our function, given us by God and accepted for us by the Holy Spirit in our mind, is to extend Love to everyone, always. Only with His help can we learn how to do this while we dream of lack of Love.

Today we welcome God’s Voice in our mind. We are willing to listen and let It guide our ways. We want to awaken from the world and accept our eternal place in the Heart of Love.

Freeing Ourselves from the World

There is no world! This is the central thought the course attempts to teach.

…healing is the gift of those who are prepared to learn there is no world, and can accept the lesson now. Their readiness will bring the lesson to them in some form which they can under­stand and recognize.

You are as God created you. There is no place where you can suffer, and no time that can bring change to your eternal state. How can a world of time and place exist, if you remain as God created you?

What is the lesson for today except another way of saying that to know your Self is the salvation of the world? To free the world from every kind of pain is but to change your mind about yourself. There is no world apart from your ideas because ideas leave not their source, and you maintain the world within your mind in thought.

I loose the world from all I thought it was, and choose my own [true reality in God] instead. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 132, W-pI.132.7:1-2;9:2-10:3;17:2. See also ACIM Lesson 132 Insights.)

The world we see and experience is a projection from our mind. It represents what we believe is real. This projection comes from the part of our mind that believes separation is real. This belief directly opposes to the fact that we remain one in the oneness of God’s Love.

We are always free to deny that a fact is true. But we cannot make the reality of Love untrue. We only hide it beneath projections of separation. Thus the world we experience is bound by our belief in separation.

We release the ties that bind us to the world by changing our mind about what we believe is real. To let these beliefs go, we have a Teacher in our mind Who is not deceived by our mistaken beliefs. We need to acknowledge that we do not know what anything means to open our minds to our inner Teacher’s lessons in Truth. The practice of asking the Holy Spirit to interpret all appearances on our behalf will lead us to release the world and return to the glorious experience of our Home in Love.

A Day Dedicated to Remembering God’s Love

The glory of my Father is my own.

Let not the truth about ourselves today be hidden by a false humility. Let us instead be thankful for the gifts our Father gave us. Can we see in those with whom He shares His glory any trace of sin and guilt? And can it be that we are not among them, when He loves His Son forever and with perfect constancy, knowing he is as He created him?

We thank You, Father, for the light that shines forever in us. And we honor it, because You share it with us. We are one, united in this light and one with You, at peace with all creation and ourselves. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 239, W-pII.239. See also ACIM Lesson 239 Insights.)

Today is Valentine’s day. It is a day the ego dedicates to the pursuit of specialness, with gifts and cards to be given to special people proclaiming love. But the Course tells us that love selectively given is not Love at all. It is fear disguised by special “gifts” because it denies the all inclusiveness of God’s Love.

In truth, we already have all of God’s Love, the only real Love that has no limitations nor conditions. God gives wholly, for what He creates remains united with Him. His Creation shares His glory, joy, innocence and peace. God does not reserve His Love to be given only on a special day of the year. His Love is changeless and constant. We can count on His Love being with us and in us in every moment. He does not change His mind about His gift or the Son He created one with Himself.

Together let us use this day to remember that we have Love and are Love eternally. Together we are His Son eternally.
