Accepting the Limitless Love We Are

Selfishness is of the ego, but Self-fullness is of spirit because that is how God created it. The Holy Spirit is in the part of the mind that lies between the ego and the spirit, mediating between them always in favor of the spirit.

The extension of God’s Being is spirit’s only function. Its fullness cannot be contained, any more than can the fullness of its Creator. Fullness is extension. The ego’s whole thought system blocks extension [of Love], and thus blocks your only function. It therefore blocks your joy, so that you perceive yourself as unfulfilled. Unless you create [extend Love] you are unfulfilled,…

Be confident that you have never lost your Identity and the extensions [of Love] which maintain It in wholeness and peace. Miracles are an expression of this confidence. They are reflections of both your proper identification with your brothers, and of your awareness that your identification is maintained by extension. The miracle is a lesson in total perception. Our Identity is Spirit (see Workbook Lesson 97). We are not a body (Lessons 201-220). When we believe we are a body, we accept the ego thought system of separation, which blocks our awareness of our true Identity as Spirit. Because of this blockage, we are not aware of our true Self’s eternal extension of Love, our only function.

Joy is a characteristic of Creation — the extension of Love. When we are unaware of our extensions of Love, we do not experience joy. Thus our misidentification with the ego is depressing.

Fortunately God placed the Holy Spirit in our mind to guide us to let go of our mistaken belief in a separate identity and awaken to the unified Spirit of Love we are. We need to question everything we now believe about our world and what we are. As we ask the Holy Spirit to teach us the Reality beyond the appearances in the ego world, we learn to recognize illusions as meaningless, with no effects.

The Holy Spirit demonstrates to us that only Love is real. He teaches us to see Love in every brother and learn that this Love reflects What we are. We welcome these lessons in Love by asking for the Holy Spirit’s help all through the day.

Letting the Light of Love Shine Through

God speaks to us. Shall we not speak to Him? He is not distant. He makes no attempt to hide from us. We try to hide from Him, and suffer from deception. He remains entirely accessible.

God loves His Son. Request Him now to give the means by which this world will disappear, and vision first will come, with knowledge but an instant later. For in grace you see a light that covers all the world in love, and watch fear disappear from every face as hearts rise up and claim the light as theirs. What now remains that Heaven be delayed an instant longer? What is still undone when your forgiveness rests on everything?

We acknowledge our mistakes, but He to Whom all error is unknown is yet the One Who answers our mistakes by giving us the means to lay them down, and rise to Him in gratitude and love. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 168, W-pI.168.1:1-6;4;5:3. See also ACIM Lesson 168 Insights.)

The world was made as a place to hide from God’s Love. It seems insane that we would want to hide from limitless Love. It is. Everything in the world reflects the wish to keep part of God’s Love as our own. It is a wish for the impossible. Love cannot be divided into parts, being given equally to all.

Our acceptance of this world is self deception, a mistake to be corrected. God has given us the means to correct this mistake. His Answer is the Holy Spirit in our mind Whose vision shows us that our mistaken beliefs have not changed the limitless Love that is our true Self.

Today we choose Him as our Interpreter for appearances in the world. With His help we learn that what we have perceived in the dream world is not true. As we accept this, we freely let go of our misperceptions and let the Light of Love we are shine through. We recognize the Love in our brothers and know we are one. The fears of the world fade away as our minds open to the Light of Love. We remember our safety in the Heart of God.

Accepting the Fact That Only Love Is Real

Nothing the world believes is true. It is a place whose purpose is to be a home where those who claim they do not know themselves can come to question what it is they are. And they will come again until the time Atonement is accepted, and they learn it is impossible to doubt yourself, and not to be aware of what you are.

Only acceptance can be asked of you, for what you are is certain.

We have a mission here. We did not come to reinforce the madness that we once believed in. Let us not forget the goal that we accepted. It is more than just our happiness alone we came to gain. What we accept as what we are proclaims what everyone must be, along with us. Fail not your brothers, or you fail yourself. Look lovingly on them, that they may know that they are part of you, and you of them. (W-pI.139.7;8:1;9)

Everyone in the world has the same underlying mission for their life. We are here to awaken from a belief in being an individual to the fact that we remain one in the Love of God. It appears that everyone’s “life” is different. But bodies are just figures in the dream which seem real only within the dream.

The only meaningful purpose for everything we experience in the world is to let it be Holy Spirit’s lesson, which He will always use to teach us what is real and what is unreal. Each time we choose to accept the His lesson the seeming reality of the dream diminishes. The Light of God’s Love shines brighter in the dream. And with it comes increasing happiness and peace. 

As we practice offering all our perceptions to the Holy Spirit and asking for His interpretation instead of our own, we learn that our true Self is united with every brother in God’s Love. We reclaim Love as our one Reality. We accept Atonement for ourselves and awaken from the dream of separation.

Accepting a Life of Joy and Peace

Forgiveness through the Holy Spirit lies simply in looking beyond error from the beginning, and thus keeping it unreal for you. Do not let any belief in its realness enter your mind, or you will also believe that you must undo what you have made in order to be forgiven. What has no effect does not exist, and to the Holy Spirit the effects of error are nonexistent. By steadily and consistently cancelling out all [error’s] effects, everywhere and in all respects, He teaches that the ego does not exist and proves it.

Follow the Holy Spirit’s teaching in forgiveness, then, because forgiveness is His function and He knows how to fulfill it perfectly. …Miracles are merely the sign of your willingness to follow the Holy Spirit’s plan of salvation, recognizing that you do not understand what it is. His work is not your function, and unless you accept this you cannot learn what your function is. (A Course in Miracles, T-9.IV.5:3-6;6:1,3-4. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

Nothing that appears to happen in the dream of separation is real because separation is not real. But within the dream, forgiveness is impossible because it is a dream in which separation appears real. This is why we need the help of the Holy Spirit to lead us to true forgiveness.

We need to be willing to admit that we do not know what anything means. With this willingness, we must bring all our perceptions to the Holy Spirit with willingness to accept His correction. The Holy Spirit will teach us to overlook appearances in the dream by showing us they have no effect on the eternal Love that is our true Self.

To the ego, this lesson is impossible. To the Holy Spirit, it has already been accomplished. As we accept the lesson, we learn that only Love is real. We recognize this Love in more and more situations and we are less and less willing to accept the ego’s denial of Love. To accept the Love we are is to accept a life of joy and peace.

Passing from the Ego’s Darkness to God’s Light

God is the light in which I see.

In order to see, you must recognize that light is within, not without. You do not see outside yourself, nor is the equipment for seeing outside you. An essential part of this equipment is the light that makes seeing possible. It is with you always, making vision possible in every circumstance.

…leave behind everything that you now believe, and all the thoughts that you have made up. Properly speaking, this is the release from hell.

If you can stand aside from the ego by ever so little, you will have no difficulty in recognizing that its opposition and its fears are meaningless.

…what is needful is a sense of the importance of what you are doing; its inestimable value to you, and an awareness that you are attempting something very holy. Salvation is your hap­piest accomplishment. It is also the only one that has any mean­ing, because it is the only one that has any real use to you at all.

The Course tells us that our experience as a body in the world is a dream that is not real. It only seems real within the dream because we believe the ego thought system that teaches separation is real. The Course is teaching us to withdraw our belief that the ego’s lies are true.

Believing a lie is true does not make it real, although it seems real because of our belief. This lesson teaches us to go deeply within our mind by passing by our mistaken beliefs. They can have no effect on our true Self, Which remains united with God. The practice of passing by mistaken beliefs and opening to the Light of Love within our mind is the most meaningful use of time in the world. It is a practice that saves us from the ego’s limitation to accept the limitless Love we were created to be as God’s Son.

Finding the Love We Are

Whom God created limitless is free. I can invent imprisonment for him, but only in illusions, not in truth. No Thought of God has left its Father’s Mind. No Thought of God is limited at all. No Thought of God but is forever pure. Can I lay limits on the Son of God, whose Father willed that he be limitless, and like Himself in freedom and in love?

Today let me give honor to Your Son, for thus alone I find the way to You. Father, I lay no limits on the Son You love and You created limitless. The honor that I give to him is Yours, and what is Yours belongs to me as well. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 280, W-pII.280. See also ACIM Lesson 280 Insights.)

While we are identifying with the ego, we are constantly searching for Love in myriad forms such as acceptance, appreciation, status, money and sex. This is because the ego is the idea of limited Love. Because of this, the ego does not know what Love is. Searching within the ego thought system will never bring us the Love we seek.

Yet we were created by Love as Love. We do not need to seek for what we already have. But we do need to seek for the barriers we hold in our mind that deny Love’s presence. A Course in Miracles offers us help to recognize these barriers and let them go. It is a course designed to help us accept God’s gift of all His Love without limit. This is our inheritance.

At the center of the Course’s lessons is the assurance that God has given us His Teacher in our minds to guide us to awaken to the reality of the Love we have and are. Today we practice frequently checking in with the Holy Spirit in our mind to receive His true perception in the situations and relationships we encounter throughout the day.

True Perception Sees Only Truth

The holy instant is the shining example, the clear and unequivocal demonstration of the meaning of every relationship and every situation, seen as a whole. …It is a situation of perfect peace, simply because you have let it be what it is.

This simple courtesy is all the Holy Spirit asks of you. Let truth be what it is. Do not intrude upon it, do not attack it, do not interrupt its coming. Let it encompass every situation and bring you peace. Not even faith is asked of you, for truth asks nothing. Let [truth] enter, and it will call forth and secure for you the faith you need for peace. But rise you not against it, for against your opposition it cannot come. Perception is selective. Perception is an ego device used to filter out what it does not want and allow awareness only of what confirms belief in separation. Thus everything we perceive in the world is not seen as a whole because it denies the truth that only the oneness of Love is real. The ego’s special relationships single out situations as different, denying the universality of Love.

The holy instant is a moment of acceptance of truth. In that instant, Love is accepted as what It is, with no differences and no limits. We accept the Holy Spirit’s call to truth. Because Love is true and nothing else is true, accepting truth brings peace with it. Love is one so there can be no conflict in It.

Today we choose to accept the Holy Spirit’s true perception in place of the ego’s perceptions that deny truth. We choose the Holy Spirit’s vision because we want to experience the peace of God. We want to accept the our true Self that God created as His Son.
