Waking Up to Our Home in God

You are my goal, my Father. Only You.

Where would I go but Heaven? ²What could be a substitute for happiness? ³What gift could I prefer before the peace of God? ⁴What treasure would I seek and find and keep that can compare with my Identity? ⁵And would I rather live with fear than love?

You are my goal, my Father. ²What but You could I desire to have? ³What way but that which leads to You could I desire to walk? ⁴And what except the memory of You could signify to me the end of dreams and futile substitutions for the truth? ⁵You are my only goal. ⁶Your Son would be as You created him. ⁷What way but this could I expect to recognize my Self, and be at one with my Identity? Everyone in this world is seeking for peace, happiness and Love. But we cannot find what we seek by following a guide who does not know the way. The ego has denied the one goal that would give us what we truly want. We have chosen to believe in an identity that is a false substitute for our true Identity Who God created as His Son.

Today we would benefit from reminding ourselves frequently that our only goal is God. Our only goal is the peace, happiness and Love that God is. There is no distance to achieve this goal. We have already reached the goal, but we are blind because we have accepted the ego substitute in its place.

We call upon the Holy Spirit to help us see past the ego’s substitutes to our Reality as God’s Son. He will help us awaken to the truth of What we are. And we will know that we live in God. Nothing else is real.

Becoming Messengers of Love

What Is the Second Coming?

Christ’s Second Coming, which is sure as God, is merely the correction of mistakes, and the return of sanity. ²It is a part of the condition that restores the never lost, and re-establishes what is forever and forever true. ³It is the invitation to God’s Word to take illusion’s place; the willingness to let forgiveness rest upon all things without exception and without reserve.

It is the all-inclusive nature of Christ’s Second Coming that permits it to embrace the world and hold you safe within its gentle advent, which encompasses all living things with you. ²There is no end to the release the Second Coming brings, as God’s creation must be limitless. ³Forgiveness lights the Second Coming’s way, because it shines on everything as one. ⁴And thus is oneness recognized at last.

Pray that the Second Coming will be soon, but do not rest with that. ²It needs your eyes and ears and hands and feet. ³It needs your voice. ⁴And most of all it needs your willingness. ⁵Let us rejoice that we can do God’s Will, and join together in its holy light. ⁶Behold, the Son of God is one in us, and we can reach our Father’s Love through Him. (A Course in Miracles, W-pII.9.1–2;5)

The Second Coming would not be needed at all had we not chosen to deny God’s gift of all His Love. Now we need to undo this mistaken choice. Forgiveness is the means. Willingness to forgive is our essential part to release ourselves from the decision to deny Love. As we become willing to reconsider that decision, with the Holy Spirit’s help, we can let go of barriers to Love. Through forgiveness, our awareness of God’s unlimited gift of His Love returns.

Today we choose willingness to forgive. We choose to accept the Second Coming that shows us Christ’s vision. With that vision, we see the presence of Love everywhere and in everyone, including ourselves. Our misguided thoughts are healed and we become messengers of Love.

Remembering We Live in Love

Let me remember God created me.

Father, I did not make myself, although in my insanity I thought I did. ²Yet, as Your Thought, I have not left my Source, remaining part of Who created me. ³Your Son, my Father, calls on You today. ⁴Let me remember You created me. ⁵Let me remember my Identity. ⁶And let my sinlessness arise again before Christ’s vision, through which I would look upon my brothers and myself today.

Now is our Source remembered, and Therein we find our true Identity at last. ²Holy indeed are we, because our Source can know no sin. ³And we who are His Sons are like each other, and alike to Him. (A Course in Miracles, W-260. See also ACIM Lesson 260 Insights.)

When we remember our Source, we remember the eternal now. We remember the Reality which existed before the dream of time. The eternal now is wholly unaffected by the dream of time. This memory is of our true Identity, which has never changed. We remain Love’s Creation, one with It and united with every brother in our shared Identity as God’s Son.

We let this memory return to our awareness as we forgive the wish for a unique identity, which shares nothing. As we forgive this wish, the barriers we have erected against Love fade, and we remember we are Love and nothing else. We embrace our brothers, who are one with us. We overlook appearances in the dream because we know appearances are not real. We choose instead to see with Christ’s vision and know we dwell in the Heaven of God’s Love.

We Have the Power to Choose

…you cannot make decisions by yourself. ⁴The only question really is with what you choose to make them.

Your day is not at random. ²It is set by what you choose to live it with, and how the friend whose counsel you have sought perceives your happiness. ³You always ask advice before you can decide on anything.

²For you and your adviser must agree on what you want before it can occur. ³It is but this agreement that permits all things to happen. ⁴Nothing can be caused without some form of union, be it with a dream of judgment or the Voice for God. ⁵Decisions cause results _because_ they are not made in isolation.

It needs but two [you and the Voice for God] who would have happiness this day to promise it to all the world. ²It needs but two to understand that they cannot decide alone, to guarantee the joy they asked for will be wholly shared. …⁵These two are joined before there can be a decision. ⁶Let this be the one reminder that you keep in mind, and you will have the day you want, and give it to the world by having it yourself. ⁷Your judgment has been lifted from the world by your decision for a happy day. ⁸And as you have received, so must you give. We always have the power to choose. The world we experience as a body is the effect of the choice to follow the ego as our advisor and decision maker. But we are always free to choose the Holy Spirit as our advisor instead. The effect of this choice is profound.

When we choose the ego as our advisor, we experience a world of conflict, lack of Love, guilt and fear. When we choose the Holy Spirit as our advisor, we experience the joy, peace and Love God has given us. The choice comes down to whether we want to accept God’s gift or not.

Today we choose to be vigilant for God and His Kingdom of Love. The first step is to welcome the peace of God that is within us. In any moment we can step back from our thoughts about the world and let peace return to our mind. In that peace, we welcome the Holy Spirit as our Advisor. We let Him be our Interpreter of every perception. He will show us the eternal Love beyond the appearances of the world.

We will learn that this Advisor always has our best interests in mind. The depth of our happiness increases. We see the value of choosing the Holy Spirit as our Guide in all our decision making.

The Greatest Gift We Can Give

⁷Before the greatness that lives in you, your poor appreciation of yourself and all the little offerings you give slip into nothingness.

⁷When you have learned to accept what you are, you will make no more gifts to offer to yourself, for you will know you are complete, in need of nothing, and unable to accept anything for yourself. ⁸But you will gladly give, having received. ⁹The host of God need not seek to find anything.

If you are wholly willing to leave salvation to the plan of God and unwilling to attempt to grasp for peace yourself, salvation will be given you. ²Yet think not you can substitute your plan for His. ³Rather, join with me in His, that we may release all those who would be bound, proclaiming together that the Son of God is host to Him. ⁴Thus will we let no one forget what you would remember. ⁵And thus will you remember it.

Call forth in everyone only the remembrance of God, and of the Heaven that is in him. ²For where you would have your brother be, there will you think you are. ³Hear not his appeal to hell and littleness, but only his call for Heaven and greatness. There is no greater gift than the eternal, all encompassing, limitless Love God has given His Son. Likewise, the greatest gift we can give is to extend His Love to all. By this giving, we know What we have received.

Whenever we feel lack of any kind, it is only because we have rejected God’s gift. It manifests in our world as loneliness, sadness, fear and guilt. As we let the Holy Spirit teach us how to forgive our rejection of God’s Love, we recognize the gift we have been given. We realize we are complete in His Love and need nothing else.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us see with the eyes of Love. Thus will we see Love and know that we are Love.

The Transformative Vision of Our True Self

I am God’s Son, complete and healed and whole, shining in the reflection of His Love. ²In me is His creation sanctified and guaranteed eternal life. ³In me is love perfected, fear impossible, and joy established without opposite. ⁴I am the holy home of God Himself. ⁵I am the Heaven where His Love resides. ⁶I am His holy Sinlessness Itself, for in my purity abides His Own.

Ours are the eyes through which Christ’s vision sees a world redeemed from every thought of sin. ²Ours are the ears that hear the Voice for God proclaim the world as sinless. ³Ours the minds that join together as we bless the world. ⁴And from the oneness that we have attained we call to all our brothers, asking them to share our peace and consummate our joy.

We are the holy messengers of God who speak for Him, and carrying His Word to everyone whom He has sent to us, we learn that it is written on our hearts. ²And thus our minds are changed about the aim for which we came, and which we seek to serve. (A Course in Miracles, W-pII.14.1;4:1–5:2)

This does not describe how most of us would describe ourselves. But it does give us an idea of what we are in truth. The purpose of the Course is to teach us how to accept the truth of What we are. It tells us again and again that we are God’s extension of His Love, forever united with Him. It also tells us what we need to do to accept this fact. It all starts with forgiving our mistaken wish for specialness.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us let go of our mistaken idea that we lack Love and are separate, alone and need to protect our little, separate identity. The image of our true Self the Course describes helps us see the blessing we will experience when we accept the truth of What we are. It is a transformative vision that we can aspire to and experience. It assures us that we are worthy of vigilance to change our mind and let Christ’s vision show us the Love we are, united with every brother in the Heaven of God’s Love.

Taking Control of Our World

⁵When the ego tempts you to sickness do not ask the Holy Spirit to heal the body, for this would merely be to accept the ego’s belief that the body is the proper aim of healing. ⁶Ask, rather, that the Holy Spirit teach you the right _perception_ of the body, for perception alone can be distorted. ⁷Only perception can be sick, because only perception can be wrong.

Wholeness heals because it is of the mind. ²All forms of sickness, even unto death, are physical expressions of the fear of awakening. ³They are attempts to reinforce sleeping out of fear of waking.

Healing is release from the fear of waking and the substitution of the decision to wake. ²The decision to wake is the reflection of the will to love, since all healing involves replacing fear with love. ³The Holy Spirit cannot distinguish among degrees of error, for if He taught that one form of sickness is more serious than another, He would be teaching that one error can be more real than another. ⁴His function is to distinguish only between the false and the true, replacing the false with the true.

⁶Yet sickness is not of the body, but of the mind. ⁷All forms of sickness are signs that the mind is split, and does not accept a unified purpose. (A Course in Miracles, T-8.IX.1:5-7;3:1-3;5;8:6-7. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

The body is a key tool the ego uses to convince us that we are separate, alone and vulnerable to outside forces we cannot control. Here we are being told that the body is absolutely controlled by the mind. If we had not chosen specialness over Love’s oneness in our mind, the body would not seem to exist al all. That is why forgiveness of the wish for specialness in its many different forms is the way out of sickness and return to sanity. It is the way from fear to Love.

The key to correction of our perception of this world is offered us in every moment by the Holy Spirit. With His help, we can change our mind and change our world. Because we have invested heavily in the belief in separation, there is much resistance to changing our mind.

In any moment when there is willingness to let our perception be corrected, He will help us heal the misperception. We take another step closer to accepting the Life we live in God. The Holy Spirit does not ask anything of us that will increase our fear. But He will gently and lovingly guide us to a new way of seeing. He leads us past our misperceptions to the true perception that we are Love and nothing else.
