Accepting the Touch of God

Yet He reminds you still of one thing more you had forgotten. For His touch on you has made you like Himself. The gifts you have are not for you alone. What He has come to offer you, you now must learn to give. This is the lesson that His giving holds, for He has saved you from the solitude you sought to make in which to hide from God. He has reminded you of all the gifts that God has given you. He speaks as well of what becomes your will when you accept these gifts, and recognize they are your own. (A Course in Miracles, W-pI.166.12)

God has touched us all with His Love, His peace and His joy. This is the Reality in which He created His one Son. We are all united as the one Son of God. God’s gifts are already eternally ours. If we do not experience His gifts, it is only because we are denying them and trying to be something we are not. This something else, this image we have made that we call our self, experiences the opposite of God’s gifts — fear, conflict and unhappiness. This need not be.

Forgiveness is the means by which we lay down the self-condemning image we have made. As we forgive ourselves for denying God’s gifts, we make way for accepting the gifts that are God’s will for us. Every brother offers us the opportunity to lay aside our judgments and accept the gifts of God that are the truth in our brother and ourselves. Every moment of every day we have the opportunity to look beyond the images and accept the gifts that God has given us with His touch. With this practice, we free ourselves to receive God’s gifts today.
