The Reality of Love

A miracle is a correction. ²It does not create, nor really change at all. ³It merely looks on devastation, and reminds the mind that what it sees is false. ⁴It undoes error, but does not attempt to go beyond perception, nor exceed the function of forgiveness. ⁵Thus it stays within time’s limits. ⁶Yet it paves the way for the return of timelessness and love’s awakening, for fear must slip away under the gentle remedy it brings.

Forgiveness is the home of miracles. ²The eyes of Christ deliver them to all they look upon in mercy and in love. ³Perception stands corrected in His sight, and what was meant to curse has come to bless. ⁴Each lily of forgiveness offers all the world the silent miracle of love. Our goal today is to view the world through the eyes of Christ. We call upon the Holy Spirit to be our Guide. With His help we will set aside the petty judgments, the conflict, uncertainty and lovelessness we see with the body’s eyes. With His help we will see Love’s presence through the eyes of Christ. With this vision, we will become aware that fear and guilt are baseless. For we will be seeing the reality of Love with the eyes of Love.

Forgiveness Welcomes Love

I am entitled to miracles.

²I am entitled to miracles [extensions of Love] because I am under no laws but God’s. ³His laws release me from all grievances [belief in separation], and replace them with miracles. ⁴And I would accept the miracles in place of the grievances, which are but illusions that hide the miracles beyond. ⁵Now I would accept only what the laws of God entitle me to have, that I may use it on behalf of the function He has given me.

You might use these suggestions for specific applications of this idea:

²Behind this is a miracle [extension of Love] to which I am entitled.
³Let me not hold a grievance [belief in separation] against you, [name], but offer you the miracle that belongs to you instead.
⁴Seen truly, this offers me a miracle. (A Course in Miracles, W-89.1–2. See also ACIM Lesson 89 Insights.)

The ego rejects God’s gifts. It is the belief that specialness is more valuable than the oneness of God’s Love. The best the ego can offer is a dream in which specialness seems possible and real. This is the dream we experience as human beings in a world of fear, conflict and lack. Lasting happiness cannot be found in this dream.

But the miracle of Love’s extension into the dream opens the door to acceptance of God’s gifts. We cannot make a miracle on our own. We need the Holy Spirit’s help to remember the truth that only Love is real. We make way for this awakening from the dream through forgiveness. Forgiveness releases the ego’s grievance against God.

Whenever we judge another, we are really expressing the ego’s grievance against the truth that everyone is united in God’s Love. When we accept the Love that we are and everyone is, we free ourselves from the ego’s imprisonment in a dream of lovelessness. As we observe ourselves judging, we can welcome a new perspective by reminding ourselves that beyond this appearance is the expression of God’s Love. We welcome the Holy Spirit’s vision in place of the ego’s projection. This is a miracle.

Love’s Oneness Is Beyond Comparison

⁵It is not our part to judge our worth, nor can we know what role is best for us; what we can do within a larger plan we cannot see in its entirety. ⁶Our part is cast in Heaven, not in hell.

Whatever your appointed role may be, it was selected by the Voice for God, Whose function is to speak for you as well. ²Seeing your strengths exactly as they are, and equally aware of where they can be best applied, for what, to whom and when, He chooses and accepts your part for you.

It is through His ability to hear one Voice which is His Own that you become aware at last there is one Voice in you. ²And that one Voice appoints your function, and relays it to you, giving you the strength to understand it, do what it entails, and to succeed in everything you do that is related to it. ³God has joined His Son in this, and thus His Son becomes His messenger of unity with Him.

²It is this Voice which speaks of laws the world does not obey; which promises salvation from all sin, with guilt abolished in the mind that God created sinless. (W-154.1:5-6;2:1-2;3;4:2)

The ego judges in terms of specialness. It may be satisfied that some aspects are sufficiently special. But it always dwells upon the areas it judges insufficient and is quick to draw attention to our inadequacies.

The Holy Spirit knows us as God’s Son. He knows God has given us all of Himself, Which is all that is real. We can count upon the Holy Spirit to judge us truly and remind us of our true worth. Unlike the ego, the Holy Spirit does not compare. He knows we are all united in the universal sameness of God’s Love.

As we let the Holy Spirit be our Guide, we become God’s messengers. We remember that we are Love Itself and extend Love equally to all. This is the one function God would have us fulfill. Today we will practice being a messenger of Love.

We Let the Light of Love Lead Us Today

Peace be to me, the holy Son of God. Peace to my brother, who is one with me. Let all the world be blessed with peace through us.

Father, it is Your peace that I would give, receiving it of You. ²I am Your Son, forever just as You created me, for the Great Rays remain forever still and undisturbed within me. ³I would reach to them in silence and in certainty, for nowhere else can certainty be found. ⁴Peace be to me, and peace to all the world. ⁵In holiness were we created, and in holiness do we remain. ⁶Your Son is like to You in perfect sinlessness. ⁷And with this thought we gladly say “Amen.” (A Course in Miracles, W-360. No matter what the appearances there are in the world, the peace of God is in us. He is our Source to Which we are eternally connected. We call upon His peace as we start the day, confident that He is with us. Throughout the day we will remind ourselves that His peace is ours. We are certain that peace is there for us to claim.

We rest in His peace, confident that He will guide us in all our doing today. The Light of His Love shines on our path to lead us in the way of Love. We walk with gratitude in His peace, for we are blessed by His enduring Love. Today we receive God’s peace and extend God’s peace. And we give thanks.

Accepting Our Innate Holiness

My mind is part of God’s. I am very holy.

Today’s idea does not describe the way you see yourself now. ²It does, however, describe what vision will show you. ³It is difficult for anyone who thinks he is in this world to believe this of himself. ⁴Yet the reason he thinks he is in this world is because he does not believe it.

You will believe that you are part of where you think you are. ²That is because you surround yourself with the environment you want. ³And you want it to protect the image of yourself that you have made. ⁴The image is part of this environment. ⁵What you see while you believe you are in it is seen through the eyes of the image. ⁶This is not vision. ⁷Images cannot see.

…the direction of your fantasies about yourself does not matter.

As often as possible during the day, pick up a specific attribute or attributes you are ascribing to yourself at the time and apply the idea for today to them, adding the idea in the form stated above to each of them. ²If nothing particular occurs to you, merely repeat “My mind is part of God’s. The key to happiness is to remember Who we are. We were created happy by the Source of happiness. We have not left our Source. So any form of unhappiness must be a false idea of what we are that denies our unity with our Source.

To return to our natural state of happiness we need to remind ourselves frequently that our mind is part of God’s. We share all His attributes, His joy, His peace, His holiness. As we look upon the world today we remind ourselves that the true mind of everyone is part of God’s. We are very holy.

True Vision Sees Only Love

God is in everything I see.

The idea for today explains why you can see all purpose in everything. ²It explains why nothing is separate, by itself or in itself. ³And it explains why nothing you see [through the body’s eyes] means anything. ⁴In fact, it explains every idea we have used thus far, and all subsequent ones as well. ⁵Today’s idea is the whole basis for vision.

You will probably find this idea very difficult to grasp at this point. ²You may find it silly, irreverent, senseless, funny and even objectionable. ³Certainly God is not in a table, for example, as you see it.

Try then, today, to begin to learn how to look on all things with love, appreciation and open-mindedness. ²You do not see them [as your true Self does] now. ³Would you know what is in them? ⁴Nothing is as it appears to you. ⁵Its holy purpose stands beyond your little range. ⁶When vision has shown you the holiness that lights up the world, you will understand today’s idea perfectly. Love sees only Itself, for only Love is real. This is why our true Self looks on everything with Love, appreciation and open-mindedness. Is this the way we are looking at the world? If not, our mistaken belief in separation is blinding us to the truth. We have practiced for eons, seeing only our projections, but they are not real.

Now is the time to practice seeing with the vision of our true Self. With our mind open to the Holy Spirit’s help, we will see beyond the ego’s projections. We will recognize every brother as our true Friend. We will see him as he is instead of the false image the ego has made of him.

Today we call upon the Holy Spirit to guide our seeing, for we would remember the Love we are and live in the peace of God.

Accepting the Seeing Eyes of Christ

The Thought of God created you. ²It left you not, nor have you ever been apart from It an instant. ³It belongs to you. ⁴By It you live. ⁵It is your Source of life, holding you one with It, and everything is one with you because It left you not. ⁶The Thought of God protects you, cares for you, makes soft your resting place and smooth your way, lighting your mind with happiness and love. ⁷Eternity and everlasting life shine in your mind, because the Thought of God has left you not, and still abides with you.

Deny not Heaven. ²It is yours today, but for the asking.

Ask with desire. ²You need not be sure that you request the only thing you want. ³But when you have received, you will be sure you have the treasure you have always sought. ⁴What would you then exchange for it? ⁵What would induce you now to let it fade away from your ecstatic vision? ⁶For this sight proves that you have exchanged your blindness for the seeing eyes of Christ; your mind has come to lay aside denial, and accept the Thought of God as your inheritance. We seem to be in a world of constant change and uncertainty. But hidden behind the ego’s shifting images remains the certainty of our eternal connection with our Creator. When times seem most disrupted, we need to remember the Love and strength of God’s beingness dwells in us. It is eternal. We can count on It.

As we let ourselves rise above the battleground, we feel God’s presence reassuring us that we are safe. We are comforted by His presence. We ask for Christ’s vision to help us see beyond appearances and remember we are still Love, loved and loving, for we are extensions of His Love. We exchange our blindness for the seeing eyes of Christ.
