Choosing the Goal That Leads to Happiness

God does not suffer conflict. ²Nor is His creation split in two. ³How could it be His Son could be in hell, when God Himself established him in Heaven? ⁴Could he lose what the Eternal Will has given him to be his home forever? ⁵Let us not try longer to impose an alien will upon God’s single purpose. ⁶He is here because He wills to be, and what He wills is present now, beyond the reach of time.

²No one can fail who seeks to reach the truth, and it is truth we seek to reach today. ³…we will ask to see the rising of the real world to replace the foolish images that we hold dear, with true ideas arising in the place of thoughts that have no meaning, no effect, and neither source nor substance in the truth.

Remember often that today should be a time of special gladness, and refrain from dismal thoughts and meaningless laments. ²Salvation’s time has come. ³Today is set by Heaven itself to be a time of grace for you and for the world. ⁴If you forget this happy fact, remind yourself with this:

⁵Today I seek and find all that I want.
⁶My single purpose offers it to me.
⁷No one can fail who seeks to reach the truth. (A Course in Miracles, W-131.8;10:2-3;15. See also ACIM Lesson 131 Insights.)

We have taught ourselves to believe that the dream of specialness is real. What we treasure we seek to find in meaningless forms that cannot last. Battles for supremacy occur at every level of our seeming existence — between individuals, groups, regions and nations. But when these goals are reached, they never satisfy because the ego’s underlying goal is always to seek and not find.

But our true Self has a single purpose: To be and extend God’s Love. In the dream, this purpose is fulfilled through forgiveness — removing the barriers to awareness of Love’ presence. This is how we let ourselves back into the Heaven we believed we left in search of a goal that can never be found. But we have the means to find the truth which is guaranteed by God to succeed. Today we remind ourselves that all we really want is the truth — to know that only Love is real.

The Holy Spirit Helps Us Love Our True Self

Before you make any decisions for yourself, remember that you have decided against your function in Heaven, and then consider carefully whether you want to make decisions here. ²Your function here is only to decide against deciding what you want, in recognition that you do not know. ³How, then, can you decide what you should do? ⁴Leave all decisions to the One Who speaks for God, and for your function as He knows it. ⁵So will He teach you to remove the awful burden you have laid upon yourself by loving not the Son of God, and trying to teach him guilt instead of love. ⁶Give up this frantic and insane attempt that cheats you of the joy of living with your God and Father, and of waking gladly to His Love and Holiness that join together as the truth in you, making you one with Him.

When you have learned how to decide with God, all decisions become as easy and as right as breathing. ²There is no effort, and you will be led as gently as if you were being carried down a quiet path in summer. ³Only your own volition seems to make deciding hard. ⁴The Holy Spirit will not delay in answering your every question what to do. ⁵He knows. ⁶And He will tell you, and then do it for you. ⁷You who are tired will find this is more restful than sleep. ⁸For you can bring your guilt into sleeping, but not into this

³God can communicate only to the Holy Spirit in your mind, because only He shares the knowledge of what you are with God. ⁴And only the Holy Spirit can answer God for you, for only He knows what God is. ⁵Everything else that you have placed within your mind cannot exist, for what is not in communication with the Mind of God has never been. ⁶Communication with God is life. ⁷Nothing without it is at all. The Holy Spirit is the link between the split-off mind that perceives separation as real and our right Mind which is eternally united with the Love of our Creator. We can deny the presence of this link but we cannot break it, for what God creates is eternal. The Holy Spirit is the Translator of the symbols we have made in our dream. He knows the truth of What we are is unchangeable. But the truth is incomprehensible to a sleeping mind that thinks in separate symbols.

To awaken from this dream we need to be vigilant to ask the Holy Spirit to guide us in all things. His guidance will always lead us toward Love. He shows us that guilt and fear are never justified, for they are based on illusions. If we let Him, He will decide all things on our behalf to free us from our self-made limitations. In truth, we remain the unlimited, eternal Love of God.

Accepting God’s Grace

Grace is acceptance of the Love of God within a world of seeming hate and fear. ²By grace alone the hate and fear are gone, for grace presents a state so opposite to everything the world contains, that those whose minds are lighted by the gift of grace can not believe the world of fear is real.

Oneness is simply the idea God is. ²And in His Being, He encompasses all things. ³No mind holds anything but Him. ⁴We say “God is,” and then we cease to speak, for in that knowledge words are meaningless. ⁵There are no lips to speak them, and no part of mind sufficiently distinct to feel that it is now aware of something not itself. ⁶It has united with its Source. ⁷And like its Source Itself, it merely is.

We cannot speak nor write nor even think of this at all. ²It comes to every mind when total recognition that its will is God’s has been completely given and received completely. ³It returns the mind into the endless present, where the past and future cannot be conceived. ⁴It lies beyond salvation; past all thought of time, forgiveness and the holy face of Christ. ⁵The Son of God has merely disappeared into his Father, as his Father has in him. ⁶The world has never been at all. ⁷Eternity remains a constant state. The ego is the idea of rejecting God’s Will. Grace is the acceptance of His Will. The ego’s rejection leads to the experience of lovelessness where guilt and fear are “companions” in our everyday experience. But only our belief in the ego makes this world seem real. By the grace of God, it can never be true.

Today, right now, the grace of God is available to us. We need only open our mind to receive it. Forgiveness is the means to open to accepting the Love God offers us in the now moment eternally. He so loves His Son that He gave him Help to free his troubled mind from the illusion of separation. Today we call upon the Holy Spirit to help us open our mind to the happiness, peace and Love that is already ours. And we give thanks that this is so.

Letting Doubt and Fear Be Replaced by Love’s Certainty

¹³There is a sense of peace so deep that no dream in this world has ever brought even a dim imagining of what it is.

Nothing in this world can give this peace, for nothing in this world is wholly shared. ²Perfect perception can merely show you what is capable of being wholly shared. ³It can also show you the results of sharing, while you still remember the results of not sharing. ⁴The Holy Spirit points quietly to the contrast, knowing that you will finally let Him judge the difference for you, allowing Him to demonstrate which must be true. ⁵He has perfect faith in your final judgment, because He knows that He will make it for you. ⁶To doubt this would be to doubt that His mission will be fulfilled. ⁷How is this possible, when His mission is of God?

You whose mind is darkened by doubt and guilt, remember this: God gave the Holy Spirit to you, and gave Him the mission to remove all doubt and every trace of guilt that His dear Son has laid upon himself. ²It is impossible that this mission fail. ³Nothing can prevent what God would have accomplished from accomplishment. ⁴Whatever your reactions to the Holy Spirit’s Voice may be, whatever voice you choose to listen to, whatever strange thoughts may occur to you, God’s Will is done. ⁵You will find the peace in which He has established you, because He does not change His Mind. ⁶He is invariable as the peace in which you dwell, and of which the Holy Spirit reminds you.” (A Course in Miracles, T-13.XI.3:13–5:6. All the turmoil in the world is made by the ego. Everyone has been given the Key to go beyond it to the peace of God. We see ourselves as individuals with private thoughts because we have accepted the ego as our guide. We need only choose the Holy Spirit as our Guide to receive His help to see beyond the ego’s illusions.

We choose the Holy Spirit by going to the center of peace within. It has been hidden beneath the ego’s layers of guilt and fear, but it is there to be found with willingness to find it. Deep within is Christ’s vision which the Holy Spirit brings us to see the truth that only the oneness of God’s Love is real. When we accept the peace within, we rise above the battleground and recognize the one Self we share with every brother. Doubt and guilt are replaced by the peace of God’s Love, our Reality.

We Are at Home Only in the Peace of God

²The peace of God is everything I want. ³The peace of God is my one goal; the aim of all my living here, the end I seek, my purpose and my function and my life, while I abide where I am not at home.

²I am entrusted with the gifts of God, because I am His Son. ³And I would give His gifts where He intended them to be.

⁴I am not a body. ⁵I am free.

The ego is the master identity thief. Our acceptance of its offering of a substitute identity has usurped our Identity as God’s Son. This fake identity is the cause of all forms of suffering in the world we see. God does not will His Son to suffer. He gave His Son all of His peace in his Creation.

While we believe we are a body, our only meaningful goal is to seek God’s peace. When we accept His peace, we accept our true Identity. When we remember we are not a body and still as God created us, we awaken to the Reality of our Home in God’s Love.

As we look upon the world with its seeming conflicts and strife, we need to remind ourselves that this is not our Home. We still dwell in the peace and Love of God.

Joining Together as Messengers of Peace

We ask for rest today, and quietness unshaken by the world’s appearances. ²We ask for peace and stillness, in the midst of all the turmoil born of clashing dreams. ³We ask for safety and for happiness, although we seem to look on danger and on sorrow.

“I rest in God.” ²This thought will bring to you the rest and quiet, peace and stillness, and the safety and the happiness you seek. ³“I rest in God.” ⁴This thought has power to wake the sleeping truth in you, whose vision sees beyond appearances to that same truth in everyone and everything there is.

You rest within the peace of God today, and call upon your brothers from your rest to draw them to their rest, along with you. ²You will be faithful to your trust today, forgetting no one, bringing everyone into the boundless circle of your peace, the holy sanctuary where you rest. ³Open the temple doors and let them come from far across the world, and near as well; your distant brothers and your closest friends; bid them all enter here and rest with you. Each of us can do our part to bring healing to the clashing dreams of the world. As we remember and accept that we rest in God, we become messengers of His peace. If we perceive something in the world that disturbs us, it is time to step back and quiet our mind. Let it sink deeply into the peace within.

As we welcome peace, we feel the safety and certainty of God’s Love. This is our true Home. From this center of peace, we see with Christ’s vision that no conflict can bring harm to God’s Sons. Everyone remains eternally held in the presence of His Love. He has not abandoned His Son.

Every Son remains eternally united in the Oneness of God’s Love. This is where we live and have our being. As we join together to hold this thought, we bring healing to the world’s dream of fear and guilt, lack and loss. Let us join together as messengers of peace today.

Seeing God’s Love in Every Brother

God is my Father, and He loves His Son.

My true Identity is so secure, so lofty, sinless, glorious and great, wholly beneficent and free from guilt, that Heaven looks to It to give it light. ²It lights the world as well. ³It is the gift my Father gave to me; the one as well I give the world. ⁴There is no gift but this that can be either given or received. ⁵This is reality, and only this. ⁶This is illusion’s end. ⁷It is the truth.

My Name, O Father, still is known to You. ²I have forgotten It, and do not know where I am going, who I am, or what it is I do. ³Remind me, Father, now, for I am weary of the world I see. ⁴Reveal what You would have me see instead. (A Course in Miracles, W-224. See also ACIM Lesson 224 Insights.)

When we identify with the ego and the body it made, we believe what the bodies eyes see is real. What happens to bodies seems real. But we are told we are not a body. It was not created by God. What God created as His Son is an extension of His Love. It has no form but lasts forever, unchanged and at one with God. This is our Identity.

Christ’s vision overlooks the body and sees God’s Love in every brother. This recognition shows us the Love of God that is our true Self.

Today we call upon His Voice to guide us to see the Truth and overlook appearances made by the ego. The sameness of God’s Love brings us peace. Our extension of His Love brings us joy. As we perceive His Love reflected in the world we remember the Love we are, forever at Home in the Heaven of God’s Love.
