Peace Comes with Accepting God’s Will as Ours

The Communication Link that God Himself placed within you, joining your mind with His, cannot be broken. ²You may believe you want It broken, and this belief does interfere with the deep peace in which the sweet and constant communication God would share with you is known. ³Yet His channels of reaching out cannot be wholly closed and separated from Him. ⁴Peace will be yours because His peace still flows to you from Him Whose Will is peace. ⁵You have it now. ⁶The Holy Spirit will teach you how to use it, and by extending it, to learn that it is in you. ⁷God willed you Heaven, and will always will you nothing else. ⁸The Holy Spirit knows only of His Will. ⁹There is no chance that Heaven will not be yours, for God is sure, and what He wills is as sure as He is.

⁵Learn that even the darkest nightmare that disturbs the mind of God’s sleeping Son holds no power over him. ⁶He will learn the lesson of awaking. ⁷God watches over him and light surrounds him.

⁵You do not have to know that Heaven is yours to make it so. ⁶It is so. ⁷Yet to know it, the Will of God must be accepted as your will. (A Course in Miracles, T-13.XI.8;9:5-7;10:5-7. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

It is always possible to touch the peace of God that dwells within us. But we must be willing to accept His Will for us. If we believe we want separation and specialness, then we are rejecting God’s Will for His Son. Instead we are choosing the ego whose wish is that death be real along with deprivation, conflict, guilt and fear. The ego is the denial of God’s eternal Love. It is not our identity. But if we believe we want what the ego offers, we will believe the ego is our identity.

The Holy Spirit is given us to teach us first that what the ego offers we do not really want. Second, To teach us that God’s Will is our will for we do want His peace, happiness and Love.

Today we practice reminding ourselves, “God’s Will is my will. I want His peace. I want His joy and Love. I want to awaken to the loving Home God wills for me.”

Steps to Release from Fear

You who have tried to banish love have not succeeded, but you who choose to banish fear must succeed. ²The Lord is with you, but you know it not. ³Yet your Redeemer liveth, and abideth in you in the peace out of which He was created. ⁴Would you not exchange [the awareness of peace] for the awareness of fear? ⁵When we have overcome fear—not by hiding it, not by minimizing it, and not by denying its full import in any way—this is what you will really see. ⁶You cannot lay aside the obstacles to real vision without looking upon them, for to lay aside means to judge against. ⁷If you will look, the Holy Spirit will judge, and He will judge truly. ⁸Yet He cannot shine away what you keep hidden, for you have not offered it to Him and He cannot take it from you.

We are therefore embarking on an organized, well-structured and carefully planned program aimed at learning how to offer to the Holy Spirit everything you do not want. ²He knows what to do with it. ³You do not understand how to use what He knows. ⁴Whatever is given Him that is not of God is gone. ⁵Yet you must look at it yourself in perfect willingness, for otherwise His knowledge remains useless to you. ⁶Surely He will not fail to help you, since help is His only purpose. ⁷Do you not have greater reason for fearing the world as you perceive it, than for looking at the cause of fear and letting it go forever? We each have an important role to play in the process of awakening to Love. But while we must do our part, we cannot awaken without the Holy Spirit’s help. We must be willing to look at our fears and offer them to Him. When we release them to Him, He will take them and they will disappear.

As it always does, the ego will try to usurp the Holy Spirit’s role. It will tell us that we must analyze the fear and convince ourselves that forgiveness is justified. But forgiveness on the ego’s terms can never be justified because the it will never contribute to its own demise. It will always direct us on a circular journey that goes nowhere and does nothing. To protect its domain, it will try hide fear and make us afraid of approaching it.

We begin by recognizing when we are not at peace so we must be having a fearful thought. This is when we need to call upon the strength of the Holy Spirit in us to help us look upon our fears. With Him as our Comforter, we know it is safe to look at the fear. Then we must offer it to Him. We can use a simple prayer, “Holy Spirit, please heal my fear-based thoughts.” This practice will lead to our awakening to Love.

God’s Love Is Our Foundation

I am sustained by the Love of God.

Only the Love of God will protect you in all circumstances. ²It will lift you out of every trial, and raise you high above all the perceived dangers of this world into a climate of perfect peace and safety. ³It will transport you into a state of mind that nothing can threaten, nothing can disturb, and where nothing can intrude upon the eternal calm of the Son of God.

Put not your faith in illusions. ²They will fail you. ³Put all your faith in the Love of God within you; eternal, changeless and forever unfailing. ⁴This is the answer to whatever confronts you today. ⁵Through the Love of God within you, you can resolve all seeming difficulties without effort and in sure confidence. ⁶Tell yourself this often today. ⁷It is a declaration of release from the belief in idols. ⁸It is your acknowledgment of the truth about yourself. The Love of God is our foundation, the rock upon which our Home is built. We have one Life, the Life we live in Love. In this Life is our perfect safety, happiness and peace.

The ego offers a substitute “life” with no foundation. Without any foundation, everything the ego offers is unstable, unreliable and chaotic. Nothing the ego offers is sustainable, for it is based on fantasy. Only our belief in the ego and the idea that separation is real seems to make its offerings meaningful. But the ego’s instability requires it to be constantly defensive. Most importantly it defends against Love. For the acceptance of Love’s oneness would eliminate the ego altogether.

Today we remind ourselves frequently, “I am sustained by the Love of God. It is my Source of strength, happiness and peace. It is What I am. It is everything I desire to share, for in its sharing I remember Who I am.”

Love’s Invitation to Return Home

God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day.

It is quite possible to listen to God’s Voice all through the day without interrupting your regular activities in any way. ²The part of your mind in which truth abides is in constant communication with God, whether you are aware of it or not. ³It is the other part of your mind that functions in the world and obeys the world’s laws. ⁴It is this part that is constantly distracted, disorganized and highly uncertain.

The part that is listening to the Voice for God is calm, always at rest and wholly certain. ²It is really the only part there is. ³The other part is a wild illusion, frantic and distraught, but without reality of any kind. ⁴Try today not to listen to it. ⁵Try to identify with the part of your mind where stillness and peace reign forever. ⁶Try to hear God’s Voice call to you lovingly, reminding you that your Creator has not forgotten His Son.

Listen in deep silence. ²Be very still and open your mind. ³Go past all the raucous shrieks and sick imaginings that cover your real thoughts and obscure your eternal link with God. ⁴Sink deep into the peace that waits for you beyond the frantic, riotous thoughts and sights and sounds of this insane world. ⁵You do not live here. ⁶We are trying to reach your real home. ⁷We are trying to reach the place where you are truly welcome. ⁸We are trying to reach God.

…be sure to sit quietly and repeat the idea for today whenever you can, closing your eyes on the world, and realizing that you are inviting God’s Voice to speak to you. (A Course in Miracles, W-49.1–2,4,5:3. See also ACIM Lesson 49 Insights.)

The Voice for Love is always with us, whether we are aware of It or not. If we do not hear Its loving and compassionate guidance it is because we choose not to listen. We have chosen instead to give our attention to the ego’s illusions that show us a loveless world. But we can choose once again.

Today we choose to attend to the Voice of kindness, helpfulness and appreciation. When we listen, it teaches us that the images of the world we see and hear are not real. It tells us that we can see beyond the illusions of the world if we are willing to let go of our attachment to the ego.

We can exchange the chaotic thoughts of the ego for the peaceful and happy thoughts of Love if we are willing to pause and quiet our minds. Our willingness to welcome peace in place of chaos, Love in place of fear opens our mind to hear God’s Voice. It invites us to awaken to the Home God has prepared for us safe in the Heart of Love.

Forgiveness Makes Way for Love’s Return

It is your Father’s holy Will that you complete Himself, and that your Self shall be His sacred Son, forever pure as He, of love created and in love preserved, extending love, creating in its name, forever one with God and with your Self.

³Forgiveness represents your function here.

…God created One Who has the power to translate in form the wholly formless. ⁶What He makes are dreams, but of a kind so close to waking that the light of day already shines in them, and eyes already opening behold the joyful sights their offerings contain.

Forgiveness gently looks upon all things unknown in Heaven, sees them disappear, and leaves the world a clean and unmarked slate on which the Word of God can now replace the senseless symbols written there before. ²Forgiveness is the means by which the fear of death is overcome, because it holds no fierce attraction now and guilt is gone. ³Forgiveness lets the body be perceived as what it is; a simple teaching aid, to be laid by when learning is complete, but hardly changing him who learns at all. The world we perceive represents the ego’s refusal to accept God’s gift of all of His Love. Because only Love is real, the ego made a dream which seems to present an alternate reality. It could never be true. But if we believe it is true, we cannot experience the reality of the Love we are, forever held within God’s Love.

God’s Voice calls us to awaken as He gently guides us to forgive our misperceptions. Each forgiven misperception loosens our attachment to the ego’s wish for specialness. We have diligently taught ourselves to believe the dream is real. Now we must learn the Holy Spirit’s lessons which show us that nothing the ego offers will satisfy our need to be the Self God created one with Him.

As we learn that the dream offers nothing of value, we lay it down. We open our mind to the Light of Love which shows us our unity with every brother. Forgiveness offers us the means to awaken from the dream and accept our place in the Home God created one with Him.

Putting Love in Charge

This holy instant would I give to You. Be
You in charge. For I would follow You,
certain that Your direction gives me peace.

And if I need a word to help me, He will give it to me. ²If I need a thought, that will He also give. ³And if I need but stillness and a tranquil, open mind, these are the gifts I will receive of Him. ⁴He is in charge by my request. ⁵And He will hear and answer me, because He speaks for God my Father and His holy Son. When we put the ego in charge, our experience is filled disruptions, disunity, disorder and discord. When we put the Holy Spirit in charge, we experience the constancy and unity of changeless Love. There is no conflict for His vision shows us the singularity of Love. In every instant we choose between these two options.

By beginning each day with a dedication to follow the Holy Spirit’s lead, we affirm our willingness to follow His direction. It is a choice to be happy and loving because we are accepting our Self as God created It.

Fulfilling Our Function Brings Peace and Happiness

²My function here is to forgive the world for all the errors I have made. ³For thus am I released from them with all the world.

²God’s Will is perfect happiness for me. ³And I can suffer but from the belief there is another will apart from His.

The messy world we perceive comes from believing we have a will different from God. As a whole it is not a happy world. But God’s Will for His Son is perfect happiness. The mess we see in the world demonstrates our mistaken belief in a will separate from God’s. This is the belief that must be forgiven to make way for the happiness God Wills for us.

Forgiveness is letting go of the wish to be separate and have our own will separate from God’s. This wish appears in myriad forms. Our function is to forgive each form that interferes with our experience of God’s joy. The Holy Spirit is ever present in our mind to help us forgive. We cannot do it alone.

The ego would have us believe there are so many things to forgive that complete forgiveness would take forever. But each form is an aspect of the one error of belief in separation. The practice of forgiveness generalizes. With practice, we recognize more and more the commonality of the error. Situations that used to upset us no longer trigger reactions. Our state of mind is increasingly happy and peaceful. It’s worth the practice.
