Do not be afraid of the ego. ²It depends on your mind, and as you made it by believing in it, so you can dispel it by withdrawing belief from it. ³Do not project the responsibility for your belief in it onto anyone else, or you will preserve the belief. ⁴When you are willing to accept sole responsibility for the ego’s existence you will have laid aside all anger and all attack, because they come from an attempt to project responsibility for your own errors. ⁵But having accepted the errors as yours, do not keep them. ⁶Give them over quickly to the Holy Spirit to be undone completely, so that all their effects will vanish from your mind and from the Sonship as a whole.
The Holy Spirit will teach you to perceive beyond your belief, because truth is beyond belief and His perception is true. ²The ego can be completely forgotten at any time, because it is a totally incredible belief, and no one can keep a belief he has judged to be unbelievable. ³The more you learn about the ego, the more you realize that it cannot be believed.
The whole purpose of this course is to teach you that the ego is unbelievable and will forever be unbelievable. (A Course in Miracles, T-7.VIII.5:1–6:3;7:1. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)
The ego seems to exist only because of the belief we have invested in it. Here we have a practice that we can use to withdraw our mistaken investment. First we must accept responsibility for our belief in the ego. This means we stop projecting our belief about what we are onto the world. Next we must be willing to ask the Holy Spirit for His help to see past our projections of our mistaken beliefs. As we accept His help, the influence of the ego, aka our beliefs, diminish. These effects will be replaced by the awareness of Love’s eternal presence in everything, everywhere, always. This could be called a recipe for awakening from the dream of separation.
Today is a good day to practice. It is a way to do our part in bringing Love to the world.

God’s Name is holy, but no holier than yours. ²To call upon His Name is but to call upon your own. ³A father gives his son his name, and thus identifies the son with him. ⁴His brothers share his name, and thus are they united in a bond to which they turn for their identity. ⁵Your Father’s Name reminds you who you are, even within a world that does not know; even though you have not remembered it.
God’s Name can not be heard without response, nor said without an echo in the mind that calls you to remember. ²Say His Name, and you invite the angels to surround the ground on which you stand, and sing to you as they spread out their wings to keep you safe, and shelter you from every worldly thought that would intrude upon your holiness.
Repeat God’s Name [acknowledge His Identity], and you acknowledge Him as sole Creator of reality. ²And you acknowledge also that His Son is part of Him, creating in His Name. ³Sit silently, and let His Name become the all-encompassing idea that holds your mind completely. ⁴Let all thoughts be still except this one. ⁵And to all other thoughts respond with this, and see God’s Name replace the thousand little names you gave your thoughts, not realizing that there is one Name for all there is, and all that there will be. (A Course in Miracles, W-183.1–2;8. See also ACIM Lesson 183 Insights.)
In the world we use names to label everything. It is what we do to distinguish the differences between all the forms in the world. But there is one label, one Name, that supersedes them all. Labels in the world distinguish between illusions. The Name of God identifies the one Reality that dismisses all illusions as meaningless. What is meaningless does not warrant a name in truth. To call upon God’s Identity is to acknowledge the truth of our Creator and our Creation. We are calling upon our own identity when we call upon God’s Name.
The Course tells us that God is only Love, and so is our true Self. To acknowledge God as the Source of our identity, we withdraw our mistaken identification with the ego’s illusions. We are not a body. We are Love and nothing else in the oneness of God. This is our Home, our Reality. We acknowledge the Source of our safety, our happiness and peace.
Today we are willing to set aside our mistaken identification with forms in the world. We welcome our unity in the Love of God. We share His joy in the eternal extension of Love.

To forgive is merely to remember only the loving thoughts you gave in the past, and those that were given you. ²All the rest must be forgotten. ³Forgiveness is a selective remembering, based not on your selection. ⁴For the shadow figures you would make immortal are “enemies” of reality. ⁵Be willing to forgive the Son of God for what he did not do. ⁶The shadow figures are the witnesses you bring with you to demonstrate he did what he did not. ⁷Because you bring them, you will hear them. ⁸And you who keep them by your own selection do not understand how they came into your mind, and what their purpose is. ⁹They represent the evil that you think was done to you. ¹⁰You bring them with you only that you may return evil for evil, hoping that their witness will enable you to think guiltily of another and not harm yourself. ¹¹They speak so clearly for the separation that no one not obsessed with keeping separation could hear them. ¹²They offer you the “reasons” why you should enter into unholy alliances to support the ego’s goals, and make your relationships the witness to its power.
How can the Holy Spirit bring His interpretation of the body as a means of communication into relationships whose only purpose is separation from reality? ²What forgiveness is enables Him to do so. ³If all but loving thoughts have been forgotten, what remains is eternal. ⁴And the transformed past is made like the present. …⁸That is why Atonement centers on the past, which is the source of separation, and where it must be undone. ⁹For separation must be corrected where it was made. (A Course in Miracles, T-17.III.1;5:1-4,8-9. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)
Love is eternal. Being eternal, it is forever in the present. Our loving thoughts are expressions of our recognition of the Love we are, eternally united with the Love that is the truth in everyone. They extend God’s Creation by sharing the oneness of His Love.
Thoughts of guilt and fear are projections of the ego’s “memories” of the past. The body is the central figure of these these thoughts which cast a veil across the real world. They make the eternal presence of Love invisible. We dispel the veil by forgiving the past as we accept the Holy Spirit’s interpretations in place of our projections.
Our prayer today: “Holy Spirit, help me see as you see. Help me remember only the loving thoughts and recognize thoughts of the past as meaningless. With Your help, I will learn they had no effect on the loving Self I share with every brother.”

Faith is the opposite of fear, as much a part of love as fear is of attack. ²Faith is the acknowledgment of union. ³It is the gracious acknowledgment of everyone as a Son of your most loving Father, loved by Him like you, and therefore loved by you as yourself. ⁴It is His Love that joins you and your brother, and for His Love you would keep no one separate from yours. ⁵Each one appears just as he is perceived in the holy instant, united in your purpose to be released from guilt. ⁶[Through the eyes of faith,] You see the Christ in him, and he is healed because you look on what makes faith forever justified in everyone.
Faith is the gift of God, through [the Holy Spirit] Whom God has given you. ²Faithlessness looks upon the Son of God, and judges him unworthy of forgiveness. ³But through the eyes of faith, the Son of God is seen already forgiven, free of all the guilt he laid upon himself. ⁴Faith sees him only now because it looks not to the past to judge him, but would see in him only what it would see in you. ⁵It sees not through the body’s eyes, nor looks to bodies for its justification. ⁶It is the messenger of the new perception, sent forth to gather witnesses unto its coming, and to return their messages to you.
Faith is as easily exchanged for knowledge as is the real world. ²For faith arises from the Holy Spirit’s perception, and is the sign you share it with Him. ³Faith is a gift you offer to the Son of God through Him, and wholly acceptable to his Father as to Him. ⁴And therefore offered you. (A Course in Miracles, T-19.I.10:1–12:4. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)
The ego looks to the past to justify guilt and fear. The Holy Spirit looks only on the present in which the innocence of Love is recognized as the only reality. In every moment we choose between following the ego or the Holy Spirit, between guilt and innocence, fear and Love.
When we choose the Holy Spirit as our Guide for seeing, He offers us His faith in the truth of What we are as God’s Son. With the Holy Spirit’s help, one whom the ego labels a villain is seen as a Son of God calling for Love. The Holy Spirit’s purpose is to help everyone who believes he is lacking Love the gift of faith that he remains Love as Love created him. As we accept the Holy Spirit’s vision, calls for Love by anyone, including ourselves, are answered with Love.
Today we call upon the Holy Spirit’s help to be Love’s messengers to answer calls for Love. This is how we bring healing to our mind and to the world.

Forgiveness is this world’s equivalent of Heaven’s justice. ²It translates the world of sin into a simple world, where justice can be reflected from beyond the gate behind which total lack of limits lies. ³Nothing in boundless love could need forgiveness. ⁴And what is charity within the world gives way to simple justice past the gate that opens into Heaven. ⁵No one forgives unless he has believed in sin, and still believes that he has much to be forgiven. ⁶Forgiveness thus becomes the means by which he learns he has done nothing to forgive. ⁷Forgiveness always rests upon the one who offers it, until he sees himself as needing it no more. ⁸And thus is he returned to his real function of creating [extending Love], which his forgiveness offers him again.
…what has been forgiven must join [in oneness], for nothing stands between to keep them separate and apart. ⁵The sinless must perceive that they are one, for nothing stands between to push the other off. ⁶And in the space that sin left vacant do they join as one, in gladness recognizing what is part of them has not been kept apart and separate.
This tiny spot of sin that stands between you and your brother still is holding back the happy opening of Heaven’s gate. ²How little is the hindrance that withholds the wealth of Heaven from you. ³And how great will be the joy in Heaven when you join the mighty chorus to the Love of God! (A Course in Miracles, T-26.IV.1:1-8;2:4-6;6. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)
Our true Self, God’s Son, remains as he was created. Nothing has happened to change God’s Son who remains forever united with his Creator. This Self does not need to be forgiven nor to forgive. He still remains as Love created Him, wholly innocent and wholly loved.
But we believe we are another self made by the denial of God’s gift of Love. The split caused by this denial we believe is a sin. It is perceived as an attack on God. The illusion that separation from God is real is the foundation for all perception of harm and loss; it is the foundation of guilt. This little self-identity needs to forgive this mistaken thought. Because we believe we are a separate self, forgiveness is the means by which we let go of the false belief in being alone and loveless, weak and subject to harm and loss. This is not what we are as God’s Son, but our belief makes it seem real.
Today we call upon the Holy Spirit to help us heal the false beliefs upon which all fear and guilt depend. With His help we will learn that, in truth, we have done nothing that had any effect that would justify guilt and fear. Because there has been no effect, we will learn there is nothing to forgive. We remain as God created us.

God is the Love in which I forgive.
²God does not forgive because He has never condemned. ³The blameless cannot blame, and those who have accepted their innocence see nothing to forgive. ⁴Yet forgiveness is the means by which I will recognize my innocence. ⁵It is the reflection of God’s Love on earth. ⁶It will bring me near enough to Heaven that the Love of God can reach down to me and raise me up to Him.
God is the strength in which I trust.
²It is not my own strength through which I forgive. ³It is through the strength of God in me, which I am remembering as I forgive. ⁴As I begin to see, I recognize His reflection on earth. ⁵I forgive all things because I feel the stirring of His strength in me. ⁶And I begin to remember the Love I chose to forget, but which has not forgotten me.
There is nothing to fear.
²How safe the world will look to me when I can [truly] see it! ³It will not look anything like what I imagine I see now. ⁴Everyone and everything I see will lean toward me to bless me. ⁵I will recognize in everyone my dearest Friend. ⁶What could there be to fear in a world that I have forgiven, and that has forgiven me? (A Course in Miracles, W-60.1–3. See also ACIM Lesson 60 Insights.)
It is possible to see God’s reflection on earth. But we will not see it while we prefer to identify with the ego. Forgiveness is Love’s reflection in the world the ego made. The strength of God supports our forgiveness when we are willing to accept His help. He gave us His Teacher to lovingly guide us to true perception that overlooks the ego’s false images to see the unity of Love. Our forgiveness awakens us to remember the Love we are and the Love that created us one with Itself.
Today we remind ourselves that God’s strength supports our forgiveness. As we remember we awaken to the Love we are. We recognize our brothers as our dearest Friends, for we are eternally united with them in God’s Love.

I will there be light.
³The will you share with God has all the power of creation in it. ⁴The ego’s idle wishes are unshared, and therefore have no power at all. ⁵Its wishes are not idle in the sense that they can make a world of illusions in which your belief can be very strong. ⁶But they are idle indeed in terms of creation. ⁷[The ego’s wishes] make nothing that is real.
Idle wishes and grievances are partners or co-makers in picturing the world you see. ²The wishes of the ego gave rise to it, and the ego’s need for grievances, which are necessary to maintain [the world], peoples it with figures that seem to attack you and call for “righteous” judgment. ³These figures become the middlemen the ego employs to traffic in grievances. ⁴They stand between your awareness and your brothers’ reality. ⁵Beholding them, you do not know your brothers or your Self.
Your picture of the world can only mirror what is within. ²The source of neither light nor darkness can be found without. ³Grievances darken your mind, and you look out on a darkened world. ⁴Forgiveness lifts the darkness, reasserts your will, and lets you look upon a world of light. (A Course in Miracles, W–pI.73.1:3–2:5;5:1-4. See also ACIM Lesson 73 Insights.)
The ego’s projections are an attempt to disown its inherent guilt for denying God’s Love. Our projections thus are a mirror of what we believe about ourself. We are not the ego — never were, never can be. We were created by Love and forever one in Love.
The fact that the world is our projection can be key to our awakening if we let the Holy Spirit use our projections as teaching aids. This is how all things in the world become lessons God would have us learn. The core of His lesson is we are Love and nothing else. The Holy Spirit teaches us to recognize that our projections are effects of our mistaken beliefs. With His help, we learn to let go of the projections and see beyond them to the Love that unites us with every brother.
Appearances of lack of Love in any form are recognized as calls for Love. Since projections come from our own mind, these appearances reflect our own calls for Love. Today we are willing to learn the Holy Spirit’s lessons in Love.
