Accepting Our True Identity

Why would you not be overjoyed to be assured that all the evil that you think you did was never done, that all your sins are nothing, that you are as pure and holy as you were created, and that light and joy and peace abide in you? ²Your image of yourself cannot withstand the Will of God. ³You think that this is death, but it is life. ⁴You think you are destroyed, but you are saved.

The self you made is not the Son of God. ²Therefore, this self does not exist at all. ³And anything it seems to do and think means nothing. ⁴It is neither bad nor good. ⁵It is unreal, and nothing more than that.

Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. ²Over and over this must be repeated, until it is accepted. ³It is true. ⁴Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. ⁵Nothing can touch it, or change what God created as eternal. ⁶The self you made, evil and full of sin, is meaningless. ⁷Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God, and light and joy and peace abide in you.

²Should you be tempted to become angry with someone, tell him silently:

³Light and joy and peace abide in you.
⁴Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. (W-93.4:1–5:5;6;11:2-4)

We need to let go of the false image we have made of ourselves. It is the source of all our pain, guilt and fear. This imagined false image only seems to exist because of our belief in it.

Yet it has no effect whatsoever on our true Self, created by God. It is our true Self in which Light and joy and peace abide. This is the Self that is Love and nothing else, eternally.

Today’s affirmations help us remember our true Identity. As we accept this fact, the false self image fades and disappears into the nothingness from which it came. We are grateful for this loving reminder.

Seeing the Light of Love Within

I will not fear to look within today.

Within me is eternal innocence, because it is God’s Will that it be there forever and forever. ²I, His Son, whose will is limitless as is His Own, can will no change in this. ³For to deny my Father’s Will is to deny my own. ⁴To look within is but to find my will as God created it, and as it is. ⁵I fear to look within because I think I made another will that is not true, and made it real. ⁶Yet it has no effects. ⁷Within me is the Holiness of God. ⁸Within me is the memory of Him.

The step I take today, my Father, is my sure release from idle dreams of sin. ²Your altar stands serene and undefiled. ³It is the holy altar to my Self, and there I find my true Identity. (A Course in Miracles, W-309. See also ACIM Lesson 309 Insights.)

The ego tells us that if we look within, we will see darkness and sin; we will see justification for guilt and fear. This just shows us what the ego is. We are not the ego. The ego is afraid that we will recognize it for what it is, and let it go.

If we let the Holy Spirit show us what is really within, we will see that we are God’s Son, at one with all Reality in the unity of His Love. We will remember that God shares His Identity with His Son. His Will is our own. We will remember that our will is be Love and extend only Love, along with our Father.

Accepting Our Future as Love

I place the future in the Hands of God.

Accept today’s idea, and you have passed all anxiety, all pits of hell, all blackness of depression, thoughts of sin, and devastation brought about by guilt. ²Accept today’s idea, and you have released the world from all imprisonment by loosening the heavy chains that locked the door to freedom on it. ³You are saved, and your salvation thus becomes the gift you give the world, because you have received.

In no one instant is depression felt, or pain experienced or loss perceived. ²In no one instant sorrow can be set upon a throne, and worshipped faithfully. ³In no one instant can one even die. ⁴And so each instant given unto God in passing, with the next one given Him already, is a time of your release from sadness, pain and even death itself.

Release the future. ²For the past is gone, and what is present, freed from its bequest of grief and misery, of pain and loss, becomes the instant in which time escapes the bondage of illusions where it runs its pitiless, inevitable course. ³Then is each instant which was slave to time transformed into a holy instant, when the light that was kept hidden in God’s Son is freed to bless the world. ⁴Now is he free, and all his glory shines upon a world made free with him, to share his holiness. In the ego’s dream world, it seems that planning for the future is necessary for survival. Yet the ego’s ultimate goal is our death. If death of the body were real, it would be the ego’s confirmation that it has vanquished God. Yet this could never be true in reality, because only eternal Love is real.

God has given us a Guide Whose goal is to lead us to awaken to our real life in the changeless Love of God. The future is now. When we place our future in God’s Hands, we are accepting the peace and happiness that is ours now. We do not have to plan for this future. We need only accept Love’s oneness as our Identity now.

Today we practice turning over all our plans to the Holy Spirit. We welcome His loving inspiration that leads us Home to Love.

Bringing Our Perceptions to Truth Sets Us Free

Truth answers every call we make to God, responding first with miracles, and then returning unto us to be itself.

Forgiveness, truth’s reflection, tells me how to offer miracles, and thus escape the prison house in which I think I live. ²Your holy Son is pointed out to me, first in my brother; then in me. ³Your Voice instructs me patiently to hear Your Word, and give as I receive. ⁴And as I look upon Your Son today, I hear Your Voice instructing me to find the way to You, as You appointed that the way shall be:

⁵“Behold his sinlessness, and be you healed.” (A Course in Miracles, W-357. See also ACIM Lesson 357 Insights.)

In the dream of separation, the world we see is a reflection of our beliefs about our own identity. Just as we cannot see our own face without looking in a mirror, we see what we believe is our identity reflected in the world.  This truth reflects the truth in our Self.

The practice of letting the Holy Spirit help us forgive our judgments of our perceptions helps us become aware of our own innocence. It lifts the veil so we can know our unity with every brother as God’s one Son. Today we practice forgiveness so that we can remember that we are Love and nothing else.

Opening to Our Oneness in Love

…let us think about all things we saved to settle by ourselves, and kept apart from healing. ⁵Let us give them all to Him Who knows the way to look upon them so that they will disappear. ⁶Truth is His message; truth His teaching is. ⁷His are the lessons God would have us learn.

Each hour, spend a little time today, and in the days to come, in practicing the lesson in forgiveness in the form established for the day. ²And try to give it application to the happenings the hour brought, so that the next one is free of the one before. ³The chains of time are easily unloosened in this way. ⁴Let no one hour cast its shadow on the one that follows, and when that one goes, let everything that happened in its course go with it. ⁵Thus will you remain unbound, in peace eternal in the world of time.

This is the lesson God would have you learn: There is a way to look on everything that lets it be to you another step to Him, and to salvation of the world. ²To all that speaks of terror, answer thus:

³I will forgive, and this will disappear.

⁴To every apprehension, every care and every form of suffering, repeat these selfsame words. ⁵And then you hold the key that opens Heaven’s gate, and brings the Love of God the Father down to earth at last, to raise it up to Heaven. ⁶God will take this final step Himself. ⁷Do not deny the little steps He asks you take to Him. The ego is arrogant. I tells us it has the answer to every problem, leading us on wild chases that, at best, lead to temporary solutions. In truth it has no answers because all it can offer is illusions.

The Holy Spirit offers the one solution that applies to every perceive problem, no matter the appearance. It prepares our mind to see past illusions to the reality of Love. Nothing else exists.

Forgiveness lets us dismiss illusions as meaningless and pass them by. Now we are open to the Light which reveals that we remain whole in the oneness of Love, eternally united with our Father.

Accepting Our Identity as Eternal Spirit

Forgiveness is the only gift I give.

Forgiveness is the only gift I give, because it is the only gift I want. ²And everything I give I give myself. ³This is salvation’s simple formula. ⁴And I, who would be saved, would make it mine, to be the way I live within a world that needs salvation, and that will be saved as I accept Atonement for myself.

Father, how certain are Your ways; how sure their final outcome, and how faithfully is every step in my salvation set already, and accomplished by Your grace. ²Thanks be to You for Your eternal gifts, and thanks to You for my Identity. Our heart’s desire is to remember our true Identity. This will occur when we look past the forms of the world and recognize the true Identity of every brother as one with our own.

This means we give no credence to what any form seems to be or do. We are spirit, unlimited and eternal. We forgive our perceptions which seem to show us a world of conflicting differences. We welcome Christ’s vision which shows us a forgiven world. In gratitude we accept our Identity as Love.

A Mind Healing Practice

To give and to receive are one in truth.

Vision depends upon today’s idea. ²The light is in it, for it reconciles all seeming opposites. ³And what is light except the resolution, born of peace, of all your conflicts and mistaken thoughts into one concept which is wholly true?

³To give is to receive. ⁴Today we will attempt to offer peace to everyone, and see how quickly peace returns to us. ⁵Light is tranquility, and in that peace is vision given us, and we can see.

So we begin the practice periods with the instruction for today, and say:

²To give and to receive are one in truth.
³I will receive what I am giving now.

⁴Then close your eyes, and for five minutes think of what you would hold out to everyone, to have it yours. ⁵You might, for instance, say:

⁶To everyone I offer quietness.
⁷To everyone I offer peace of mind.
⁸To everyone I offer gentleness.

Say each one slowly and then pause a while, expecting to receive the gift you gave. ²And it will come to you in the amount in which you gave it. (A Course in Miracles, W-108.1:1-3;7:3–9:2. See also ACIM Lesson 108 Insights.)

It may be helpful to begin this exercise by applying it to a friend or loved one. Allow yourself time to feel in yourself the gift you want to give, and this offer that gift to the one you chose. Allow time for you to see that gift fully given to your friend. Then become aware of how you feel as you give this gift. You will find you receive great blessing as you extend the blessing. It is a great demonstration that to give and receive is the same. With practice, we can learn to give blessings to those whom we consider adversaries.

This same principle applies in the ego’s dream of separation. Judging another is disturbing to our own peace of mind. This is why forgiveness is the key to peace and happiness. We may believe we are forgiving another, but in fact, we are forgiving ourself as we forgive another.

The practice of giving peace of mind to others can help us take great strides in our own mind healing. We learn the important principle of our unity with every brother and our Father. It is because of this unity that giving and receiving are one.
